Dr Sommer is awesome and a great doctor. I recommend her highly. Her staff is average to slightly above average. If you go here, be ready to have a lot of discrepancies and contradicting billing issues. I had at least 5 calls from billing prior to my procedure and each of the staff members I spoke with told me a different amount I would have to pay for the procedure.I never received a bill after my procedure and my online profile with the office said all bills were paid in full but when I returned over a month after my procedure for the follow up visit I was told I had a $220 outstanding balance (after paying A substantial sum already). Also, check your online profile often because that is the only place they let you know about things. I didn’t know I had been prescribed medicine until approximately one week after the prescription was sent because I was never made aware of it until I checked my profile. I still haven’t talked to a human being about what my prognosis is and what I need to do to improve it... but it’s written in Medical terms (not plain English) on my profile... as if I know what any of the medical terms mean.

I love Dr. Sommer. She did a thorough work-up on me when I was admitted to the hospital. Then I saw her in her office and she listened to me and did more blood work up. She always spends time with her pts.

Dr. Sommer really cares about her patients. Does not rush through office visits or procedures. Takes time to explain things. Meaning diseases, disease processes, potential or probable causes, procedures, and treatment options. Most importantly, she takes the time to address patient concerns. Explains procedures (EGD & Colonoscopy) in depth before and after the patients procedure (her findings, recommendations, discharge and follow-up instructions). Makes sure patients and their family have all concerns addressed. Highly intelligent, caring, and compassionate MD. A true asset to the field of Medicine and Gastroenterology and to the people of the Chattanooga area. She deserves more than 5 stars.

Dr. Sommers helps me and my stomach problems, when 2 trips to Vanderbilt, didnt. She stayed with me until we could find some meds that helped. Anytime Ive ever called her office, my called have been returned. She is always so kind and caring, along with her staff. My husband developed stomach problems, and she has taken wonderful care of him, getting him straightened out. I want to add, she explained her diagnosis so we could understand it, and how the medication would work if meds were needed. Ive recommended her to several friends that are also very pleased with her.

Dr. Sommers has done nothing to help me. Each time I have seen her she says take this med, without ever wanting to find the root cause of my symptoms. I had a colonoscopy two years ago but anytime I ask if we can check other things or do more test she either ignores it or doesnt think its necessary. When I said none of the meds work and they only make me worse, the response is we are out of options. I even applied for fmla at work because my symptoms cause me to miss work but Dr. Sommer has refused to certify it because she doesnt think my diagnosis qualifies and because I wont take the meds, the meds that cover up 1 issue and create new problems. Its upsetting that you have to live life everyday feeling sick and you want to believe the doctor cares, when it doesnt turn out that way.

My wife has been admitted 3 times in 2 months due to an IBS. A Very Long story cut short is, There is absolutely no communication. We get more information from nurses and Internet research. This most recent visit She has been in hospital 3 days now. Still no visit from Dr. Sommers. They have her on NPO nothing by mouth diet for 3 days and she is miserable. Cant even get a doctor in here to tell her any information. Parkridge East and Dr. Sommers GI are a giant joke to the medical community. My wife has had 0% progress with actual regression from the 1st visit. She has been begging for surgery but cant get Sommers in this room to give any answers. Im thinking about contacting lawers to see what we need to do legally to make this woman do her job.

Run! Seriously. Dr. Sommer was sweet and kind my first 3 visits. I thought she knew what she was doing, had lots of test ran and she was able to gain trust. She did a minor surgery that would have me down for 2 days. I ended up not being able to swallow for a month, when attempted to it caused so much pain screams came out that were a reflex. Im not a screaming person and have a high tolerance for pain. It was torture. I went to the ER and they gave me fluid and some meds to help until i could get to her office the following day. My husband went with me and we both explained what was happening. She said it made no sense and dismissed us. Fast forward to after the month of pain, and taking the pills she gave me to heal my stomach, i can swallow again but anything i ate or drank made my stomach cramp then came back up. I went to see her again after waiting 2 weeks to get in and losing 14lbs. She told me to keep taking the pills she gave me and come back in 2 weeks, dismissed again. This went on for 2 months. I kept having to go to ER who would give me nausea pills that would last a little while. Finally i went into her office in the cramping pain and vomiting in a bag tp show her the severity. She didnt even close the door. She said continue meds and dismissed me again. Finally i talked to my pharmacist bc i went in to pick up my refill. Now my hair was falling out, teeth problems, skin was weird colored, i had lost weight. I told my pharmacist what was happening...... IT WAS THE MEDS SHE HAD ME ON! He helped me with OTC stuff to detox, took a week of cramping and pain but slowly i could hold food again. When i and my husband called her office several times , we never got a response. Now i have about 4 ok days a week, and 3 painful ones from whatever she cut in my stomach. I had to give up most foods except for bland ones. Still NO response in 6 months except i did get 17,000$ in bills after my insurance covered 76,000$ from all the test and procedures. I went in originally bc i thought my gallbladder was going bad. After tons of test, none for my gallbladder, i now still have the same pain from before i went to her only escalated, extra pain and pressure, i cant enjoy foods i once loved, and im in debt. Never again. I have had some really good specialist and surgeries that have been good. Dr. Sommer is the first ive ever had do this and turn unprofessional the way she did. She has ruined my life. Ive have to base work, school, friends around my sick days and trying to eat is the most horrible thing for me now.

My first experience here was okay. After my 2nd visit to the ER they recommended I establish a relationship with a gastroenterologist. Dr. Sommer did a physical exam and could not find anything wrong with me so she recommended that I wait until my abdominal pain happened again, go to the ER, and have them contact her so she could do a full work up then. I followed her instructions exactly. However, I could not get anyone to get a consult with her, so I called and made sure that she knew I was in the ER. When I did not hear back, I had someone physically go to her office in the same parkridge plaza to make sure she was coming. Finally, she sent her partner over to me. Her partner, Dr. Paque treated me very rudely. I was unable to talk because of the pain of the giant NG tube I had in my nose for 24 hrs, so I wrote everything I wanted to discuss. He took a cursory glance and what I wrote and proceeded to ask questions/mention things that were already written down and things he should have known had he read my history. He repeatedly mentioned how malpractice was a concern for him and how this was not his case in the first place. I pulled the NG tube out myself so I could talk since he was not understanding my situation. I asked him if he could consult with a surgeon and figure out the best way to treat me. He verbatim said, We dont do that here. What kind of specialist cannot have an intelligent conversation with another specialist to figure out the best course of action for a patient. He told me there was nothing I could do to prevent this in the future (small bowel obstruction), and I would just have to come back to the ER each time. My main goal was not to have surgery, but to have an answer as to what was causing it. He refused to do the diagnostics that Dr. Sommer had recommended initially because I was not stable enough, which was very frustrating because I could have had those diagnostics done before I had gotten sick and avoided 2 days in the hospital and all the bills associated. By the time the conversation was over, his initial recommendation of just wait till it hurts again and come to the ER had changed to wait till you are stable and then we will scope you, simply because he missed a vital piece of my history that I had reiterated every time someone asked me what my history was and had written down in the page that he barely looked at. I left AMA because I was so upset with how my concerns were being treated and due to the fact that it took over 36 hours for someone to come talk to me, to give me absolutely no answers. I didnt mind being in the hospital, if it meant I wouldnt have to come to the ER in gut wrenching pain every 3 months. I wanted a diagnosis, not a bandaid and I did everything right on my side. Dr. Paque made it very clear that I was not his patient and he did not want me to be. Had he taken a few moments to address my concerns and treat me like a human rather than a case, this could have gone completely different. I am a doctor, so I understand client communication better than most. These guys really dropped the ball in communication to each other and to me. Had it been them in the hospital and another doctor told them they would have to live their lives frustrated with no answers as to how to prevent it from happening again (nutritional, lifestyle, or otherwise), they would not take that for an answer.I had no intention of going back to this place of course, as Dr. Paque flat out told me to go to another GI doc. I then received a letter from Dr. Sommer firing me as a patient. I would have appreciated a simple phone call/communication from her to hear her side of things, to see where the miscommunication occurred. Instead my last impression of this place was so poor. I only saw Dr. Sommer once, for 15 minutes, for the benefit of having established that relationship, to help me in the future, and now I have a mountain of hospital bills and no answers. My conclusion is each patient is a dollar sign for these guys. I would spend your money elsewhere.
