Im shocked by some of the negative reviews here. Dr. Ellis and staff have been taking care of my teeth for at least 25 years. When I first went there, my mouth was a mess because my phobia of dentistry had kept me from going to a dentist. After the first visit, I was calm enough to go back for appointments until my teeth were good as new. Yes, he does tend to pat your shoulder and call you sweet pea and such, but he does that to my husband, too. For me, it calms my fears. These are good people, and most important, they are highly skilled and use the most up-to-date technology.

20 years ago, we had just moved to Chapel Hill and my 9 year old broke her front tooth in half, the day before her first day of school, as the new girl. I found Dr. Ellis name in the phone book and called. He met us in his office that Sunday evening, and put a temporary on so she wouldnt be embarrassed. He was very calm and reassuring to a scared 9 year old and her concerned mother. He never charged us and made an appointment to permanently fix her tooth after school the next day. Our family of 4 have been going to him ever since. I had had bad experiences in the past with other dentists so I am very particular as to who I go to. Weve recommended many friends to him and theyve all been happy with him and his staff. I feel sorry for a younger generation who cant appreciate caring because theyve grown up suspecting any kind of physical contact. Dr. Ellis is a very competent dentist who cares about his patients, and tweaks your cheek when hes done, the same way someone would pat your shoulder or back, to say well done or good to see you or have a good day or see you next time or all of the above. Most of his staff stays with him for years and have always been very competent and knowledgeable. You mention a concern to them and they pass it on to Dr. Ellis. You never feel rushed, can always ask advice, and always feel welcomed. And my 9 year old daughter? She is now 31 and still goes to Dr. Ellis twice a year, and has a beautiful smile!

Dr. Ellis and his staff have always been professional and taken good care of my familys teeth -- only complaint is that they are busy, but they found a way to squeeze me in for a recent minor emergency. 5 stars!

This is a very unprofessional and inappropriately-run business. I am a fully grown woman and was referred to by Dr. Ellis as sweet-pea, pumpkin, darling, and cutie-pie throughout my examination. Dr. Ellis also stroked and pinched my cheeks as he examined my teeth and talked to me, and I felt very uncomfortable and unsure of how to respond. The hygienist seemed to mean well and did her best to make me feel welcome, but we both clearly felt uncomfortable and inconvenienced by the unacceptably long time we were made to wait for Dr. Ellis to come and examine me after her cleaning. I would caution any woman against coming to this practice for fear of being treated in the disrespectful and condescending manner that I was. Being of the ethnicity, age, and gender that he is, I wish that Dr. Ellis would take a moment to consider the context in which his actions and words are perceived, and take a little more responsibility in the position that he holds. Overall, an extremely negative experience.

I went here because I need a new dentist. The facility is nice but the staff was rude and not not very focused on the patient. They were not able to answer any basic info I had. The actual dentist, Dr. Ellis, was very touchy feely...grabbing my jaw and patting me on the cheek...not something I thought was totally appropriate. All in all it was a bad experience. Needless to say I wont be going back or recommending this Dentist office to anyone.

THIS IS THE ABSOLUTE WORST DENTIST OFFICE IN THE ENTIRE TRIANGLE AREA... I had been going to Dr. Winokur here for some time and when he left I should have too. I had hope that I could stay, but Dr Ellis and his staff are more concerned with their relationships with each other then they are their relationships with their patients. The dental hygienist that I saw was so rough and rude to me the entire appointment, grabbing my jaw hard and forcing my face and digging at my teeth, spraying me with water and not going over any info with me. When I asked her to stop being so rough and that I wanted to know how my teeth were she told me she had been working with Dr. Ellis for 31 years and countinued to ignore all of my request. I wasnt sure if she thought telling me that would excuse her being so rude and rough on my teeth. Dr. Ellis was not much better when he came in. I have seen him a few times before but he had never been so rude to me. I am not sure if the hygenist mentioned me asking her to stop being so rough. However Dr. Ellis told me I needed to have a tooth sealed and he kept talking about making it better for Thanksgiving, but then became rude when I asked him if it would be that same day, seeing as Thanksgiving was a few days away and I was confused. He said no and left without giving me any more info. The rude hygienist then did the floride without telling me any info about the procedure or what I could and couldnt do after...needless to say going to a lunch date and not knowing you cant eat anything for hours doesnt really work out. After applying it and then telling me that, I got frustrated and asked her why she wouldnt tell a patient that before hand. Without responding she left the room. I was unsure as what to do next so I got my things and found her at the front desk. She didnt speak to me only the receptionist. I was checked out and got a follow up appointment made. My teeth have never hurt that bad after a dentist appointment in my entire life, even my wisdom teeth surgery was less painful after. So this morning I received a letter from them saying that they wouldnt see me again and they canceled my follow up appointment because I had asked the hygienist to stop hurting me and had requested a different one next time at the end of my appointment. I dont think anyone deserves to be treated the way I was by Dr. Ellis and his staff. They do not have any concern for their patients well being and the slightest recognition of this gets you booted out. Anyone looking for a dentist in the triangle area needs to stay far away from this dentist office if they want a good experience, a nice patient oriented doctor and staff, and to not leave in pain and upset. You will never find that here. Again, DR. ELLIS AND HIS STAFF ARE WORST DENTIST OFFICE IN THE ENTIRE TRIANGLE AREA.
