Wow! Just wow! Other eye doctors in the area are just looking for the sale. Not this place. The level of professionalism and care is amazing. I will not go to another eye doctor now that I have found this practice. Dr. McGahen is professional, knowledgeable, and patient. Great attributes for a doctor. And the support staff is so kind and helpful. I will definitely recommend this practice.

I am a new patient to Dr McGahen. Everyone was caring and courteous. My eye examination was the most thorough one I have ever had. Dr. McGahen shows he cares about your vision. He is also a funny and knowledgeable person. So glad I found this office!

I am giving them 1 star because of the bad treatment I just received.My Retina doctor said my eyes were finally stabilized and that I could go ahead and get new glasses. He knew the trouble I have been having with my eyes. Ive been complaining to the Retina doctor that I wanted new glasses. I have been waiting patiently about it and finally after 7 months of treatements he said I could go ahead and get new glasses now.So after that day I made appointment with Dr McGahen for getting eye glasses. But I had to wait two months to get my appointment.So finally the day came that I had my appointment with Dr McGahen.I did all the tests and at the end of appointment he refused to give me a prescription for eye glasses. I begged but he said NO.He didnt care that I couldnt see and that I needed them for work and its my money if I want to buy glasses. Anyway I walked out very upset that he wouldnt give me a prescription for eye glasses. Ive been waiting over 2 years for new glasses and for him to flat out say no was the last straw.I will tell you this I will never go back to Dr McGahen because of the bad treatment he caused me. He is very bossy and doesnt care what the patient feels. My mom is not very happy with him either. I told her what happened and now I will be going to another eye doctor tomorrow.I know my eye sight wontbe perfect but anything is better than what I have now. So I just wanted everyone to know that I am very unhappy with this bossy eye doctor. I am getting new eye glasses but not from him. He wont get any more business from me.

Everyone working there was incredibly kind and patient with me. The visit took just over an hour which wasn’t bad considering there is one doctor. Dr. McGahen was an amazing doctor, he was very nice, polite, and funny. I would definitely recommend I would definitely recommend this office to anyone in the area.

A while back, Doctor Joel diagnosed my Cataract and suggested the best Eye Surgeon, Dr. Pratt, who gave me 20/20 vision back in my Right Eye; also, refreshed my Progressive Tri- Focal corrective lenses. He continues to give us the most thorough exams, advice and explanations of our current eye/vision condition. His staff is also the very best you could ever get treated/examined by. Great experience!!! Dr. McGahen and his associates took their time and made sure that I had all of my questioned answered. Dr. McGahen was able to figure out what was causing me issues the for the last year, that 2 other eye doctors could not. I am so pleased and I am very grateful to have found them. They dropped my vision insurance and knew for a month before telling me, which ended up being less than 2 weeks from my appointment i had scheduled for months. Now everyone due to Covid is booked up and im scrambling to find a new provider that will see me before my prescription expires! Very unprofessional and frankly they have left me with a mess to deal with! Was a great provider until they left me out to dry!! Very disappointed!!!!!!

Had my first appointment at the office of McGahen. I was with a few different staff members, including Joel. I get pretty nervous switching Drs, offices, etc. For anything health related. My experience there makes me wonder why. Everyone was friendly, thorough, and very helpful. Extra props to Jackie and all her patience while we figured out the best way to get what I needed for my eyes with my ins coverage and financial situation as well.

I had an amazing experience! From Start to finish! I needed new glasses and contacts and I got the correct prescription for my eyes. The whole process was so easy and I thought the Dr did such an excellent job, I referred my husband to see him.

Weve been going to Dr. McGahen for years, and I trust him completely. When my son had an eye irritation this week I didnt hesitate to call for an appointment even though I knew we would be paying out of pocket because they no longer accept his insurance. Dr McGahen OD assisted me with a lot of information that was separate from services expected and rendered. You see, am: diabetic, overweight with high blood pressure and he enlightened and provided me with a path forward. Am a little hard headed, meaning it takes me some time to catch-on, so the good Dr took his time and am appreciative!

Yesterday, I accidentally poked my eye in a tall weed/grass while leaning over to pick something up on the ground. I was very thankful to be seen later in the day. Fortunately my eye was okay. The entire staff is very welcoming and friendly, and Dr. McGahen is most professional and thorough, and tells you straight up what is going on. I highly recommend him!

I developed a stye in my left eye and, of course, I first noticed it on Friday evening. First thing Monday morning I called Dr. McGahens office to see if I could be seen by the doctor even though we are still yellow here in Franklin County, PA. I was able to get an appointment for 12 noon at which time Dr. McGahen confirmed the stye and gave me a prescription for an antibiotic to help reduce the swelling and eventually heal the area in my eye where the stye had formed.. Dr. McGahen as been my husbands and my eye doctor for many years and am very satisfied with not only his professional care of our eyes but also the friendliness and of his office staff.

Dr. McGahen is an extremely knowledgeable man he was very good with my daughter when she was having muscle control of her eyes. I am a faithful patient.

Dr. Joel was great. I recently had a routine checkup and everything was great with my visit. He took the time to have a proper introduction as well as provided me with a little history about himself and his medical experience throughout the years. I could sense his knowledge. Staff was okay, could have explained some things more thoroughly but overall good experience. I would definitely recommend Dr. Joel H. McGahen, he is very professional and friendly.Edit - Dr. Joel was great but his staff is extremely rude. Was just in the office to check the status of my next appointment and was met with some of the worst customer service I personally ever experienced, I will not be scheduling an appointment with them anymore.

His office is quaint and you get the one on one attention from him and his staff that a patient deserves. Very pleased with my experience and he fixed my eye issue!

A friend referred me to Joel about 10 years ago. He is the only optometrist I will take my children to. He is wonderful with my kids and has always answered any questions I may have. The staff is always friendly and knowledgeable. The frames and lenses offered are always the best quality. There is no comparison with the chain vision stores.

We first met Dr. McGahen last year in search of a second opinion. I needed an explanation as to what was happening with my daughters vision and how best to help her. He did just that! Very friendly staff.

Dr. McGahen has been my eye doctor for over 15 years. I have had many eye issues with double vision and must have prisms in my eye glasses that he has prescribed with great success. My latest diagnosis of double vision is being treated and corrected with additional prisms and his professional care and research. I was also just diagnosed with a macular edema and he is watching this. Do not hestitate to go to Dr. McGahen. He is excellent with special eye issues and has the experience to correctly diagnose.

Joel tookt he time to examine my eyes and make sure I felt comfortable with the outcome of his examination. He also took the time to listen to concerns and explain his answer and background of how he knows the answer. This makes for a great experience as well as trust in his abilities.

When I called to make my appointment, I mentioned that we dont have eyeglass insurance and would need a prescription and PD measurements and we would shop around for glasses. I was told that would not be a problem. I just finished my eye appointment, but was refused to be given my PD. I know not all eye doctors provide the PD, which is why I asked when I made the appointment. Would strongly recommend looking elsewhere for service.

I went in to Dr. McGahens 5 years ago to get my eyes checked for a routine exam and bifocals. Dr. McGahen found that I had a melanoma tumor on my retina. I was sent to Wills Eye in Philadelphia for radiation. I have been cancer free ever since. I was very thankful to have an eye doctor that knows his stuff and had caught the tumor early in its stage! I thank God, Dr. McGahen, Dr. Wroblewski & Dr. Shields for all that they have done for me.
