My dad was admitted on a Friday at 3:30 pm from the hospital. He was admitted due to a car accident that left him with multiple broken bones. He needed assistance to get out of bed and to walk. After admittance it took numerous calls from family to get the staff to look for his pain medication for his broken bones. My father went hours in pain because the staff was too inept to look in his chart and find his prescription. On Saturday morning he was due for his heart and blood pressure medication. He did not recieve that medication until Saturday night at 10pm.If your agency is willing to accept a patient on Friday afternoon or any day and time for that matter then your agency is responsible for making sure you have the patients medication before they need it!!As stated my father could not get up by himself however he was given no assistance and no cane or Walker to get up to go the the restroom. He had to use the food cart as a walker and push himself along without staff assistance to get to the restroom. My father would be better served to have gone home where at least he wouldve had access to his medication on time. Heart medications are crucial to life!!!!! Allowing a person with 8 broken bones to sit without pain medication is cruel!!! I hope that when the people who work here get older they recieve the same substandard care they gave my father because maybe then they will have remorse for treating people this way.Dont send your family here!! My father picked this place because the lady on the phone sounded nice. Trust me just because they sound nice it does not equate to a high standard of care!!

They have MAJOR communication issues between departments! A few of their nurses are TOTALLY unprofessional & I would NOT want an elderly relative of mine subjected to their incompetence! I got to witness first-hand patient abuse by their incompetent nurses. I was a patient there for 12 or 13 days, my main reason for choosing them was due to the availability of Smoking area & times, I understand they may lose that ability & due to the way they handle the Smoking Policy they prolly shouldnt offer it as an attraction whatsoever!!! Dinners/Lunch had a various collection of what I would call Mystery Meats, breakfast was pretty duped every day, they have what I would call rubber toast, dont think it ever gets close enough to a heating element to be truly classified as toast, the eggs most mornings could be used as rubber balls. Not once during my stay did I ever have a truly Hot meal, at best they were on the slightly warm side.

The staff at Brian Center in Canton cares for the wellbeing of their patients! They are willing to go the extra mile to help patients feel like family during this difficult time of COVID 19 isolation. They communicate quickly and appropriately among departments, conduct themselves professionally while on the job, and are fully competent to provide the care your family member needs. I might give them a higher rating if the facility was newly renovated, but the patient care and comfort is what is most important. Cheers to the dedicated professionals at Brian Center Canton!

If you enjoy the overwhelming smell of urine, appreciate a hit or miss staff, and have a liking to kleptomaniacs this is the place for your mom/ dad.About the physical center: Overall the Brian Center is a basic decent bed if you have a very restrictive budget.About the staff: My family has met some very kind and professional nurses and some very rude, unprofessional nurses at the Brian Center. One day when visiting my grandmother, one of the male nurses was outside smoking directly in front of the residential AC units. And if that wasnt unprofessional enough he was on his phone yelling about how he could have totally had that chick the night before. His smoke break lasted 30 minutes.About the treatment of the residents: You can leave detailed instructions about you mom/ dad and it will either be ignored or .... nope ignored. If you have a choice of the Brian Center or anywhere else.... choose anywhere else. However if you dont have a choice due to budget limitations, please be forewarned.

There are not enough staff. If youre going for short term rehab the Pts are great for at most 2hours a day. Count on the next 22 hours being stuck in a tiny room and left there. The food is designed for the geriatric patients with zero options. The facility is old and probably hasnt been updated in 40 years. Some parts probably much longer. The place needs a major overhaul and more staff to remain competitive. Many good staff are hampered by lack of staff and no consistently.

Our 81 year old Dad, who has dementia and orthostatic hypotension was admitted on a Tuesday. Forced to be admitted to this facility because it was one of the only Medicare beds available. This place would have never been our choice. So we hoped and prayed for the best.Spoke to our Dad for the first time 5 days in...shocking and heartbreaking. He couldn’t talk, slurring his words and crying. This was no conversation and not the man we had last spoke with prior to admittance. We started the process to get him out the very next day. In the meantime, the Brian Center had started to open up the face to face visitation so we scheduled a visit for that Thursday, 9 days in. On this day, 2 hrs before scheduled visit, we were told we would not be able to see him. We ordered and set up his discharge for that day! While awaiting the pickup, he passed out and they called 911. Our dad spent the next 5 days at Northside Cherokee recovering from severe dehydration, a UTI, high sodium level, horrific bedsores, cuts and abrasions on his torso and arms. He had lost significant weight and his mouth was covered in a very weird thick brown coating. He was unable to speak to the ER doctor, only groaning noises. An RN from the NEW facility, who had conducted a face to face assessment the night before, was eyewitness to all of this! Including the filthy conditions of his room and the soiled bed sheets he was lying on.Can’t even describe how heartbreaking and shocking it was to see him in this condition. Our worst fears had been confirmed! There is no question, if he had stayed in this facility for the remainder of his “rehabilitation” it would have been a death sentence for him. 9 days at this facility and he ends up in the ER. This was on March, 11th and he is still receiving wound care for the bedsores on his feet/heels.

If youre planning on putting your lives one at this facility, please reconsider. If they have a DNR make it VERY CLEAR! The suffering isnt worth it. Thatll all I will say.

My grandfather had a stay here at Brian Center, the staff was wonderful, knowledgeable and caring. Everyone took time to meet with us and explain treatment in a way we could understand, and you could tell they truly care for their patients. Nurses and Therapists took time to listen to all of our individual concerns for Papa, and then worked with us explaining how they would administer his treatments to meet those personal needs. There was one evening Papa had said he was cold as his room mate preferred to leave the window cracked at night, and the staff got us moved to a new room the very next day so he would be more comfortable. We couldn’t be more pleased with the care provided at Brian Center!

The Brian Center has always taken care of my mother in a very loving and conscientious way. She has been under their watchful eye for more than two years. The capable nurses, certified nursing aids, administrative staff and associates have never been anything but conscientious when it comes to my mother’s attention. I have more than 20 years experience in the Senior Living industry and I recommend the Brian Center to everyone that needs skilled nursing and rehabilitation in Canton, Georgia.Raquel Bustos

My father was here a few months ago. PT is good, which is why Im giving it 3 stars, but they are severely understaffed, and we felt my father did not get enough attention. One of the staff completely ignored my father and would not speak to him. Clearly the staff need better training with regard to how to treat dementia patients. Also facility is old and dreary. There is poor inter-departmental communication, which caused us some stress.

I was recently a resident at this facility for recovery and initial rehab following a significant spine surgery. Having been a healthcare provider myself for over 30 years, it was quite enlightening to be on the other side of the clipboard. Because I was having problems with swallowing and balance the physical therapy and nutrition folks were all over me as soon as I arrived and stayed with me daily for my entire time there. I was seen not only by 2 Internists, but virtually every service offered there checked in on me. As I walked the halls for rehab, I was able to watch a committed and dedicated staff care for residents with a patience far greater than my own. Caring for the very ill is an absolutely monumental task, and my observations were entirely favorable.

*****The patient care is OUTSTANDING*****My Grandmother was in the Brian Center last year, and although they took very good care of her, and got her back on her feet and home in 6 weeks, she had concerns about the age and condition of the building. It is older and a bit rustic, but was always clean. When my Grandfather needed rehab for 2 weeks we decided to try another rehab close by, that was newer and more modern. I admit it was prettier, and my Grandfather says the food was a bit better, but the patient care wasnt even close to the Brian Center. Luckily my Grandfather was more independent and able to get up and down on his own, because when the nurse button was pushed, often no one ever came. When I visited him, there were several times where patients in nearby rooms, who were totally immobile and calling for help did not receive it. I went and helped when I could, but many of the nurses seemed unconcerned and uncaring. My Grandmother had to go back to rehab for physical therapy, and I chose Brian without hesitation. The staff are wonderful, even with high maintenance patients, they are attentive and caring, and I never have to worry that she may not be taken care of. They have even been extremely accommodating of my Grandfather, allowing him to stay whenever he likes, and making sure he is comfortable, even though he is not their patient.

Very disappointed in this facility. Staff was uncooperative in providing information, phone calls were not returned from multiple staff, did not include family or orthopedic surgeon in discharge planning, even though this was requested prior to staff meeting. Grateful my loved one did not stay long. Would not recommend.

Edited for typos:Beware!I know of 2 people recently that were patients there. Both were in for totally unrelated issues. The first was a gentleman that I knew that recently passed. He had been ignored and drugged with antidepressants until the family found out and demanded they stop. He also complained that they dropped him. He was a gentleman known for being honest. The nursing home denied it and said he fell. After this he was removed from the center and taken home. The second was an aging woman with dementia, her family took a trip for a week and admitted her (Respite Care) because she was unable to travel. Upon their return, they were informed by the roommate that the staff had ignored her, she hadnt had a bath in 9 days, she was left to sit in her wheelchair all day long. Her wheelchair was soaked with urine when her family picked her up. She came home with a UTI that developed during her stay.Again, these are stories from 2 different families that did not know each other, that had trusted their loved ones to this Nursing Center in the last couple monthsIm just relating what was shared to me. As with any nursing facility, do your research. Make spontaneous visits at unexpected times. Follow up on their charts and if you suspect drug misuse, take your loved one to an independent doctor and have a blood test done. Please consider carefully who you trust them with.

My 93 year old mother was sent to the Brian Center for rehab after a bout with pneumonia and a UTI. I found the facility to be clean, no putrid odors, good meals for patients, staff were always courteous and professional in dealing with patients and families, and most importantly my mother was taken care of, she has incontinence issues and she was always clean. I do not understand the families and patients who are posting bad reviews. This is a Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center, not a hotel. Having been a Registered Nurse for over 30 years, I have seen my share of bad facilities, and this is not one of them. The Brian Center is not the newest facility but the care given is outstanding. I would not have any issues with sending my mother back or going to stay as a patient myself. Thank you to everyone at the center.

9/5/18 just talked to my mom and she said that the care is much better today, received her meds on time and breakfast was awesome this morning. I have family members that work in the industry and understand it is a thankless job, but always remember how would you like your love ones taking care of?Terrible, terrible, My mother has been in this place of a week room 21, bed 1 there are always late with her meds an hour to an hour and a half. Today she was scheduled to go to her doctor at 11:00 am, they told my mom that they had a ride scheduled for her, guess what NO RIDE! My mom has paid into medicare and deserves better treatment. Illegals get better treatment. I told my mom to contact channel 2 news tell them your story. Don;t even go there about the food.... Does anyone take responsible for their actions, this is the best we can do for our seniors???? One more thing my mom said the interaction with staff -rude/unprofessional, etc

**BEWARE** Do not use this facility unless you have a personal assistant to stay with you at all times. Our family member was admitted to the Brian Center on a Thursday night and we moved her to another center the following Tuesday (which was not fast enough). Neglect on all scales, ie nursing, personal hygiene, interaction with staff -rude/unprofessional, etc.. I wish we could score the review a minus one, but no such options! This facility is considered an Emory collaborative facility -Emory needs to reevaluate and remove their name!

Dont take anyone you love here. They left my poor relative in pee and poop for 3 hours, not once, not twice, but several times a day everyday, and night shift its even longer. Day shift nurse lied to my Aunts face on Memorial day and said she would change his dressing (someone named melody or something similar to the name), never did, then lied to the night nurse dawn and said she did! His pressure ulcer is getting worse there as a matter of fact care is so poor here he is developing another pressure ulcer UNDER his already sage V ulcer. The place was built in the 1900s. They allow staff and pts outside to smoke and the place is in such poor condition all the smoke comes in the windows making it impossible to breathe and these patient have to wear oxygen! Why is this not a tobacco free campus? It is 2016, come on! Nurse and techs reak of smoke coming in my relatives room and he can barely breathe himself. One hall bathroom for EVERY patient. No call light to call the nurses station. This place should be condemned and torn down. They dont have a single bed or pieces of medical equipment from this or the past 2 centuries there! Making one room hold THREE PATIENTS. As a RN for 10+ years I fear my family member will die there. Been promising a doctor would see him since May 22nd. NO DOCTOR HAS COME AT ALL. Nursing care by a bunch of smoking people who make it obvious they work for a paycheck, not to actually help anyone. Bless every person in this place, may God protect their life. If his family wasnt up there with him all day, theyd let him sit in pee and poop all day. Can you believe the state would allow the kind of place that takes over an hour to see the light on outside a patients room, because remember no call system to the nurses station only to then come and say someone will be in to help in a minute and most of the time help NEVER comes or it takes 2 more hours if someone else actually does come. I swear my life on that. I wish I could give this place negative 5 stars. As a real caregiver, do not let these people take in a loved one. They are in the business of misery. NOT healing. Making patients sicker, not better. Only good people there- physical therapy. Whoever gave this place a good rating only dropped off a patient and never spent time in it. The manager here should be ashamed.
