My mother was a resident at Silverado Brea and finding a place like this for her made a very difficult situation a little easier. The staff is caring and attentive, and best of all, inclusive of the residents entire family. My mom entered the facility a couple of months before COVID locked everything down, and even in those tough times they did everything in their power to keep us connected to our loved one. Our family recommends Silverado to any family dealing with Alzheimers/dementia because the program is designed specifically for those dealing with this disease and as anyone whose loved one has this disease knows, it requires specialized care, but more importantly special people providing this care, and Silverado is the place to find it.

We made the difficult decision to put our mother into memory care last January 2020. We had no idea that two months later the world would shut down due to Covid. It has been an interesting and tough year to have a loved one in memory care, so I feel I can give a good perspective from several different angles on Silverado. For the first two months before Covid, we could not have been more pleased with how Silverado helped our Mom transition into memory care at 88 years of age. The warmth of the staff was palpable upon walking in the door. They were kind and affectionate, and most importantly, patient, with our Mom as well as the other residents. As a family, we were encouraged from the get-go to visit our Mom as often as possible. We enjoyed lunch in the dining room with her several times (food is excellent!) and when family was visiting from out of town, the staff set up a beautiful table for us in a private dining room for us all to be together. For Valentines Day the chef prepared a wonderful buffet lunch for the residents and family members. It was a first class affair all the way.The facility itself is open, airy and bright, with lots of windows and plenty of lovely outdoor patio and courtyard space. A very important factor for us in choosing Silverado was my Moms little dog. She was so attached to Buddy and if we had separated her from him when she went into memory care, it would have devastated her. Silverado Brea allows the residents to bring their small pets. This was a lifesaver for my Mom, particularly when we could no longer come inside to see her after Covid hit. They also have a community cockatiel and bunny! For those elderly who have pets, the important presence of the animals at Silverado cannot be overstated. With Covid, all those lovely visits and lunches stopped abruptly. However, the staff did everything in their power to make sure the residents still had as much contact as possible with families. They set up FaceTime, phone calls, window visits using cell phones to converse, and ultimately patio visits where we could actually speak in person, yet at a safe distance outside. To be completely honest, I dont know that we would have made the decision to put our Mom in memory care had we known that Covid was coming and we would be unable to be in her physical presence for so long. However, the decision had already been made and we could not have imagined anyone trying harder to maintain family contact than the staff at Silverado Brea did. Family is now being slowly and safely welcomed back into the community.I have found the communication from the Silverado staff and administration to be excellent. I have been kept informed of any issue or concern with my Mom at every step of the way. It is comforting to have her receiving great care and being kept informed, while at the same time no longer having to shoulder the difficult burden of caring for a loved one with dementia at home. For those who read this as they search for memory care for a loved one, my heart goes out to you as I understand personally how tough and even heartbreaking that decision is. I can only tell you that Silverado Brea made that transition for our family as easy as it could have possibly been and we have never had a moment in the past year where we regretted our decision.
