I recommend the IU Inpatient Stress Center. I was worried because several inpatient psychiatric centers had lots of negative and concerning reviews but this center was clean safe and caring. You speak to a psychiatrist every day and outside of a court order you can leave on your own accord which also eased my worries. I liked how fast I was able to obtain my patient record and the ease of obtaining same. The only areas I’d say are in need of improvement are the following: 1. every other patient with me agreed, having to repeat your story over and over again to every single staff was uncomfortable and frustrating. Several made the comment “are the staff not communicating these things with each other?” 2. The amendment process needs improvement. for example while I was there a case manager informed me that someone accidentally wrote that I was bipolar when they meant it was my mom who was bipolar. She assured me that the error would be corrected before I was discharged. It wasn’t and i filed an amendment and “the reviewing physician determined the record was accurate as is” which is not true. Two psychologists and my therapist agree I do not have bipolar disorder, I have never had a manic episode I do not have mood swings or any other essential diagnostic symptoms. I do not feel my concern was validated or corrected it’s important to have an accurate record especially with something so sensitive as mental health care. I filed a grievance recording the decision.

The receptionist, Robin, is the most incompetent and rude woman I have ever spoken to in my life. Not only does she have absolutely zero knowledge of anything going on in the health center, she is blatantly rude and disrespectful to the sick students she cares for, hanging up the phone on me when I expressed frustration with her poor quality of care. As an out of state student, seeing a doctor while at IU is already incredibly difficult, and it is extremely upsetting that the staff working at the campus health center, specifically Robin, pay zero regard to the wellbeing of the students they care for. I have had an unpleasant phone conversation with this woman many many times in my just three semesters at IU. I hope your supervisor sees this review and fires you. People like this should not be allowed to work with sick patients.

Didnt clearly state if they took my insurance. They acted like they would. They didnt. I have an unnecessary 300 dollar doctor bill. Doctor brushed off symptoms I was having and misdiagnosed me. I ended up getting lab tests that all came back negative. I never got a call back after getting an absolutely bizarre diagnosis. This is everything thats wrong with the Healthcare system in one building.

I was given the best treatment at IUHC. Every staff member that I came in contact with was kind, thorough, and made me feel comfortable. Dr. Knudson went above and beyond. She was thorough in explaining what tests she was going to run and why, she talked through insurance and payment options, and even went as far as to help connect me with resources to get my costs adjusted. The nurse, whose name I do not remember, was also super awesome. Really thankful for the staff and really appreciative of the level of care I received.

I’ve had good experiences with the pharmacy and my doctors; however I’ve had trouble with getting in contact with them and getting medicine refills. This is ignoring the “diagnosis” I received from an unqualified healthcare worker. The hours are impossible, since they aren’t open on the weekends, and on occasion close midday for lunch.Edit: At the medical clinic, I was asked “how my boyfriend feels about me getting on birth control”. A procedure which should take no more than 10 minutes was excessively painful and took more than 30 minutes. The gender clinic, headed by Dr. Knudson is AMAZING and if you’re looking to transition or start hormone therapy and I can’t recommend her enough.

The nursing staff here/receptionists who check you in are some of the rudest people I have met in my life. I came in to the walk in with tonsillitis last semester and was told to go somewhere else because there were people who were actually sick who needed care. I was in pain and really sick--left in tears. Staff both on the phone and in person act like doing their job is an inconvenience to them and treat students like they dont matter. I have been at IU for several years now, and out of the 8 or so times I have been to the health center, this experience has been consistent. Do not go here. Even the low standard of care Ive received at urgent care is supreme compared to the way Ive been treated here.

If you want to be misdiagnosed and essentially gaslighted about your own health then you can go there. I went there with a fever and sore throat that had been going on for days and after my flu and strep test came back negative Dr. Burkhart essentially told me to go back to class even though I had a fever. He was very condescending and at the appointment he somehow wound up talking much more than I did. Instead of going to class I went home and my fever only got higher. I went to my home city and primary doctor to be diagnosed with the same strain of flu they tested me for a day earlier. If they had diagnosed me properly I could’ve started Tamiflu. Simply a waste of time and money.

As a student at IU I had to use the health center multiple times, and each time it felt like a chore. Once I was actually seen by a nurse practitioner or doctor it usually went pretty well, but the whole process around that is frustrating. They are critically understaffed and youll be lucky to get an appointment within 2 weeks during flu season, so your best bet is to do a walk-in instead. They are nearly unreachable over the phone, and Ive spent 30+ minutes on hold more than I can count for things as simple as getting a prescription refill. The administrative staff hasnt been rude to me, per say, but they definitely seem indifferent. The doctors and nurses seem to be trying their best, at least.Perhaps the most difficult thing to manage are their hours. The health centers hours are very limited and have actually been reduced from previous years. They are no longer open on the weekends when theyused to be open on Saturday, and I believe they also used to be open until 6 PM. Now they are only open until 4:30 PM, and are closed between 11:30 and 1, although the latter might just be a summer thing. Needless to say, those hours are ridiculous! Students can reliably have classes every weekday up to 6 PM and might not have an hour or two to wander over to the health center, and since attendance is so heavily monitored these days, it makes it nearly impossible to visit for non-immediate conditions. The same goes if you are at work. Your best bet is to go in as early as possible. Most of these issues are not the result of the staff, but of the university. It is clear that the clinic is incredibly underfunded, and its just another sign that IU really does not care about its students.

If you want to be misdiagnosed, then go to the IU student health center. You probably know more about medicine than their PAs and nurses. Their doctors are rude. I was in pain for two weeks after they misdiagnosed me and they kept giving me new medications and telling me to take painkillers. I had an infection that required immediate care and antibiotics. If I didnt end up Googling my symptoms and figuring out what the problem was, the bacteria would have spread more and the infection would have even gotten worse and would have probably needed to be hospitalized.

I have never been treated so poorly by a medical staff. The receptionists and nurses are rude, condescending, and clearly hate their jobs. If you can afford to go anywhere else, do it. The receptionists are rude, the nurse practitioners and doctors misdiagnosed me several times, and they dont really care about giving you the best care. They dont really give advice beyond whatever you think is best and they dont care about helping, educating, or protecting you. They just want you in and out as quickly as possible. I would give zero stars if I could. This is the worst medical center Ive ever been cursed to encounter. First, the receptionists are rude. While I was waiting for my appointment I heard the receptionists making fun of someone who called. The nurses are equally as rude and very hateful. As for the doctors, you might as well try essential oils as theyre just as unhelpful. I went in for (what was later diagnosed at another dr office as) a kidney infection. They performed a strip test thats accurate ~30% of the time and of course it came back negative. They told me I was dehydrated, charged me, and told me to come back if the pain is worse in 48 hours. Mind you, if not treated kidney infections can quickly cause sepsis and permanent damage. I called them later that day to tell them I was experiencing new, very troublesome symptoms and asked if they could call in an antibiotic. They said theyd test again in 2 days and call me. They never did. Good thing I went to a different medical office to get the help I needed.

They did not get all my vitals. And they got my bp because I requested it. Having a high blood pressure or high heart rate is not important and has nothing to do with anything when it should be. I would tell them that my bp was high but they refused and told me that I was wrong. I would know more than anyone what is abnormal with me. I would tell them what was wrong and they just gave me medication for each individual problem rather than knowing what the whole problem is. Both times I went they didn’t think twice about my blood pressure. I definiently felt rushed the lady said I was only signed up for a 15 mins appointment when I was wasn’t even asked how long I’d want an appointment for. They treat u like ur stupid when I’ve worked as an emt I would get fired for some of the things they did. The doctor was nice but I felt rushed and not cared for. Although I’ve been seeing doctors at the Health Center for a while and never had issues, I mainly am reviewing to commend the Pharmacy at the HC. I have never had such amazing service at a Pharmacy and I’m not looking forward to graduating and having to go back to CVS. The staff always have my prescriptions ready in minutes, they are always friendly and helpful, and do their best to make sure I get a good price with my bad insurance. Online refilling is so easy and convenient. CVS has nothing on the HC pharmacy except longer hours, but it’s absolutely worth it.I am fairly selective with my doctors at the HC so that’s probably why I’ve had great experiences. I went here 4 times when I was a student. I found everything from making an appointment to navigating the inside of the building frustrating to the point of being kafkaesque. After my first time making an appointment via phone, I was extremely anxious to make another later on because the receptionist was so rude and dismissive. Think about that: this woman was so unpleasant that it actually impeded my drive to seek medical help. And when I did eventually call back the subsequent three times the people I spoke to on the phone were just as unnecessarily impatient and unkind as the first, if not more!I mean these people are so starved of social skills that they actually have employees responding to complaints on here--in an at times condescending and rude way, I might add. All I can say to that is yikes.Regarding my actual appointments, I have little complaints. I wasnt misdiagnosed or anything. But be warned: They dont accept medicaid or IU Health Insurance. My experience has nearly always been excellent. Id definitely give 5 stars if Chris Johnson didnt work there. Dr. Rupp, Bruce Garber, Cathy Garber, and Mary Lou Nierzwicki were all great. Staff are helpful, efficient, and friendly. If you avoid Chris Johnson in the Womens Clinic, you will likely have a good experience at the health center. The lab work is usually quick and mostly painless, and folks filling prescriptions are fast, helpful, and friendly.Chris Johnson was extremely dismissive, and told me there was nothing wrong with me, and the pain I was in was normal. I found out later I had large ovarian cysts and advanced endometriosis (stage 4). Due to her dismissive attitude, I first spent another year with no diagnosis, in pain, and feeling hopeless. I did not consult with another doctor because I let her convince me the pain and illness was in my head. My illness was severe enough that Ive had 5 surgeries to treat it, which involved freeing organs stuck to me with adhesions, a hysterectomy, and a bowel resection. The very least Chris couldve done was mention the possibility of endometriosis and refer me and/or order an ultrasound. If I had treated the disease sooner, I likely wouldve had a better surgical outcome (possibly keeping a left ovary so damaged that it needed to be removed), fewer adhesions (from treating the disease before it became so advanced). Not to mention years of lost productivity and damaged social relations from living in pain.Chris Johnson also told me that if you are in a car going over train tracks and that doesnt cause severe pain, you dont have an ovarian cyst large enough to worry about. It sounded strange to me at the time, and now that Ive had multiple large cysts (verified by ultrasounds and surgery), I know what she said is nonsense.Chris Johnson should not be allowed to practice medicine.
