Best experience I’ve ever had at an emergency room. Everyone was friendly, professional and the doctors and nurses were exceptional. I was seen in a timely manner and diagnosed quickly. Thank you to all the staff at the Highlands ED!!!

ER was dirty, no seating, and the worst attitudes Ive seen in this industry. Of course masked required, I have my own views on that but the process just to get into the waiting room was horrendous. The security guard needs to learn social skills and to speak clearly. He mumbles then gets frustrated when you dont do what he asked. Happened with staff as well. No matter what emergency I am having Ill make the trip elsewhere. Signs say 1 visitor allowed due to covid restrictions however all visitors were forced to wait outside and were not notified once loved ones were called back. Save yourself the time and aggravation and go to Grandview or somewhere that can treat patients with respect and like people not just an inconvenience or a number.

The doctors did not take me seriously and I felt ignored. I told him there was something wrong with my wrist and I needed a brace and he suggested that I just keep moving it until I felt better. He completely ignored everything that I said. Plus he wouldnt call in a prescription for me. And then another nurse suggested that I just bathe in Epsom salt. Very unprofessional. I would never recommend unprofessional place to anyone.

My mom fell and broke her hip on Sept. 1, 2020. No other hospital was accepting patients. They took her and she was treated very well. I got so much information that I cant remember it all. Everyone was very nice and treated my mom very well. I have no complaints at all. Thank you for caring for my mom. Prayers for my mom that she has a very speedy recovery. Shes 80 years old.

I went into the Emergency Department this evening for an acute illness and I have to say that even amidst this horrible pandemic everyone from the patient transport staff, nurses at the check in counter, nurses in the emergency department, the doctors and the women in the discharge department that I met were all exceedingly kind and lovely. I truly appreciate how gentle and caring they were during my treatment. I have never had such a positive experience in an emergency situation. Thank you so much for all that UAB is doing in this trying time.

These nurses and student doctors are paid to play and complain about their job. Some of the nurses and staff are rude. Constantly on the phone. Discharged me and I had to let them know the DR hadn’t even came to talk with me. My sister refused to come get me since it took so long and she was in the bed the DR stated they would get me a cab and to sit in the lobby and wait and when I checked to make sure they hadn’t forgotten me again the nurse stated they couldn’t get me cab so I had to sit in the lobby all night until the next morning when my check hit.

The surgery department is very rude. I was asked to step out of the room due to social distancing while the doctor spoke with the patient but as I stepped out I was spoken to VERY RUDELY, about being in the hallway!!!!! Wow!!!! The nurse with the attitude will definitely be reported!!! That was uncalled for!!

Went to the ED with abdominal pain and the wait was very short. The staff were excellent from the front desk, check in, PCT’s, Nurses and the MD. Best experience I’ve ever had in an emergency room. Thank you!!!

I only give it two stars because i barely waited. But that does not make up for the way I was treated. A nursing student put my IV in and she almost let me bleed out! And not to mention, she was not too nice. Also, while she was drawing my blood, two more nursing students barged in and were disappointed to see that they couldnt do my IV. I know this is a teaching environment but dont let me feel as if i am just a toy. I sat and waited for my results and they never gave me anything for pain or even any fluids. It wasnt until after I was discharged that I finally got Ibuprofen. All in all, I wont be going here again if I ever need to go back to the ER.

I had a very scary situation and I was treated with the utmost respect and care here. I went to the ER because I was convinced I miscarried. The entire staff I encountered were caring and devoted to my well being. My stay was about 8 hours, which the only other time Ive gone to the ER took about the same amount of time. In this time they drew labs and took 60+ ultrasound pictures to assess the situation. My labs looked good, but they couldnt find a heartbeat on the US. They called an OB from the Womens and Infants Center at midnight to come to Highlands to double check my result , which at the time they thought looked pretty bleak. The OB spent time looking at all the info they had and talked with me a long time about my past miscarriages and my timeline of this pregnancy. Her advice was a lot more hopeful and now Im just wanting till my next scan to see if the baby is getting bigger, heartbeat, etc. I felt my team was excellent and they even got a second opinion from a specialist as late in the evening as they did which really, really stood out to me. I wasnt the only one there having an emergency, so I knew it would take some time. I appreciate the dedication to truly understanding my situation at that moment and while I dont want to have an emergency, I wouldnt give a second thought about coming here. They were outstanding!

As a fellow medical worker I am INSULTED by the lack of respect and the ill mannered workers. Floyd at the check in desk did not acknowledge us and was on his phone the entire time I was here. He had no compassion and no consideration for patients and that is honestly heartbreaking to see especially since you’re associated w/ such an amazing hospital. Will NEVER come back to this ER. Change is a must at this facility.

When I arrived fouth of july 2018 there was no one at the desk but employees were walking around. I thought they were closed for the day, Which is unusual. I needed pain medication for my torn meniscus and stayed by the cafeteria(which was closed) for about an hour. Everytime I come here there is a problem with staff. It make people not even want to be seen here.
