This is my second time visiting Jamilah African braid shop. I must say, both times has been a memorable experience. She makes you feel at home and comfortable, but for the most part her work is PHENOMENAL!! I would DEFINITELY recommend her if your looking for AMAZING hair brading styles and experience you want forget!!

My favorite braiding shop. Theyre knowledgeable about the texture of your hair and recommends what you should or should not do to cause damage to your hair but still lets you decide what you want. Just because you see a pic you like doesnt mean you can get that exact style depending on texture of hair thin, thick, full etc.. I saw a pic I wanted my hair wasnt thick enough for the design, she continued to ask my opinion and we agreed on it being very similar it actually turned out better than the style on the pic. It fit my face and my hair texture I dont have to be concerned of my edges falling out trying to get something that wouldnt be suitable for my hair Ive been here many times and is very pleased with their service and work. Love them!Im leaving my review for them to know I appreciate their service and they have a valuable customer❤😘

I have been going here for a couple of 3 years now, but I went in there today and the service was not good. I understood that they didn’t have but 3 people working, but if you can’t do a style than just tell me upfront. I got in the younger girl chair and she started off good, but she couldn’t do the top and started to get an attitude, say she didn’t want to do it, and you don’t act like that in front of consumers it doesn’t matter how frustrated you get.

I asked for a simple vraid up ponytail and they did not deliver 😒

Jamilah is not there anymore! Robbie is not there anymore! The prices have went up for kids. They take so long now!

I had a wonderful experience at Jamilahs. I brought my own faux locs and walked in just as they opened. I was seated within 10 mins of entering the shop and I was leaving with this beautifully done set of crochets after 1.5 hours. Will definitely be returning.

I had to wait an hour for someone to start my hair after setting an appointment. (Reason I took off one star) The owner was apologetic about the wait. My braider was nice and did an amazing job. Will come back.

It was unfortunate that my hair turned out this way. Jamilah told me over the phone it would be $80 after I sent a picture of the style that I wanted, then she changed it to $100 and my twists do not look good. Old pictures of me in the same style vs Jamilahs work is a terrible comparison. Ill never recommend this place to anyone.

She was amazing at first, but then got very unprofessional. I came to the shop at 8am Thursday the door was locked, but thats fine I thought maybe since its exactly when theyre supposed to open theyre running behind ...No I called and was told to come back maybe 11 or 1130 works I called and was told im not working today we can do it tomorrow just call me. Well I guessed it I call Saturday which was tomorrow and No Answer. 100% unprofessional.

My braids look gorgeous and I loved the staff there. These ladies are artisans who work hard—it only took 4 hours! I even watched them rebraid a customer’s hair to their satisfaction with no fuss. Gonna tell everyone about this place! Thank you so much.

I absolutely loved getting my braids done here! They have quality work! The style I chose were tribal braids and they have lasted over a month and I will return to get the top re-done. I definitely recommend them!

I called same day and asked did they take walk-ins. I was told to come right away. I got there as soon as I can and I was welcomed in. I had a wait but it was worth it. Everyone was professional and kept giving me updates. I was also able to get a quick shampoo because I didn’t have time to go home and wash and dry my hair. I normally drive to Atlanta to get my hair braided. I had two people in my head as promised and it didn’t hurt as bad as usual, I have very fine hair. Even with the ladies taking a break to eat or get a quick break, my hair was done in 4 hours or less and I got medium box braids. The owner was very personable and professional. My edges were handle properly and I liked how I could still see my natural edges outside of the braids. I will be going back. Thanks!

Every time I go here I’m like 3 months no relaxer and every time my feed in braids looks good I’m going to go with freshly relaxed hair and see what I get

Horrible service i wanted to get feedins and the little girl couldnt do big cornrows the owner was no help. She was trying to convince me to get a style that cost more. So i wont go back and no one else should either. This was my first time ever going to African braiding hair shop i rather go to black hair salons but i went to another African braiding salon and they were amazing.

Awesome hair braided skills and knowledgeable in all hair styles but most impressed with their customer service.

I called and asked if I could make a same day appointment. The young lady over the phone told me yes and that if I came right then, I would have two people on my hair. I walked in to a shop full of people and all the braiders were busy! That’s not how you do business.

Im only giving one star because it was a horrible experience. I spoke with Jamilah several times over several days leading up to my appointment to get some passion twists and not one time did she tell me that I needed to bring my own hair. I got to shop at 5 and was told they supplied hair for all other braid styles except passion twists (really) so I decided to try some tree braids from them which I am a tree braid connoiseur mind you. The young lady that was assigned to do my hair was all over the place. She kept stopping and running off while other customers who were getting braids were getting done faster than she was. Again I have worn tree braids before on a regular basis and it has never taken more than 3 hours to do my hair even when I was natural. I was put in the chair at 6:00 and didnt leave out until 11:45 pm and the tree braids werent acceptable. I will never go there again. EVER!!!!!!

Waited 3 hours with 5 braids in my head while tge beautician went on an oil sheen run!! They talked about it in French the entire time, instead of finishing or continuing until she returned! Charged 180 for box braids even though my back and sides are shaved!! Didnt give a discount for any of these unfortunate situations just a foolish apology. 9 hours for 1/2 a head of box braids. So unprofessional!

I enjoyed the atmosphere and I was more than satisfied with the quality of my hair style. I got box braids and the were very neat and Beautiful. I would recommend this African hair braiding shop to anyone.

I sent picture of the style I wanted to the owner before I got there and when I got there. Get there, the owner was floating around like a flotation device, so 2 other ladies started on my hair. They preceded to braid my hair(In a style FAR from what I asked), so the owner FINALLY comes over (Im clowning now) with the, Im sorry, I forgot to tell them what you wanted!! GTFOH I will NEVER recommend ANYONE to these people!

Ive been here before with my daughter and they did an excellent job. So I decided to get micros installed. My hair has thinned over the years and I didnt think it would look presentable BUT my hair looked so nice and thick. It did not break at all. Her niece did my hair and SHE is quick! Be patient because they may not get to you for about an hour or so...Its so worth it.

I get my crochet done here. If you want braids or crochet, this is definitely the right place for that. Ive been going to Jamilah since I relocated to AL.

I went to Jamilah African braiding about two weeks ago. When I walked in, I knew I was in good hands. They actually care for your real hair. FRIENDLY doesnt describe them enough, they can conversate and get your hair done fast. I just moved to the area and they satisfied me. Always a pleasant experience

Hi I was in Hoover Al visiting my cousins and we went online searching for a hairstylist to shampoo condition retwist and style my dreadlocks.I have been growing and maintaining my dreadlocks for 10.5 yrs.We called Jamiaha and she did and excellent job!! We called her one day and the next day she scheduled an appointment for me!!

This was my first time visiting this shop and I have to say, theirs was the absolute best experience ever! I often keep my hair braided and just recently moved to the city. I googled African Hair Braiding and this shop came up in the search engine. Very hesitant, I decided to give them a try!! As soon as I arrived they immediately attended to my request; the staff was amazingly sweet and my hair is amazing and exactly what I asked for. The shop is extremely clean including the restroom facility. They were extremely conscious of my time and afforded me two personnel on my head. I am definitely a satisfied customer and will definitely be returning for future styling needs!

Worst place ever employees are loud and curse all over you dancing and singing in your ear oumi has a lot on her hands employees arguing with her all over your head always on the phone taking 20 plus breaks if you can deal with that you can get your hair done if not go to somebody else the most unprofessional place ever i have been in a long time and i always go to oumi but this my last time

This is by far the most clean, friendly, professional African Hair Braiding Shop Ive ever been in! Jamilah and her girls are AWESOME hair braiders.... I have been wearing the Senegalese Twist for about 2 1/2 months and my twists look like they were done yesterday.... I get compliments EVERYWHERE I go!!!!!! Jamilah uses the best quality hair..... And the shop is super clean and well kept....I absolutely love it... So I will definitely be going back time and time again..... I am very very very pleased with everything from the customer service to my twist!!!!!! Thank you Jamilah for making me feel super SEXY! Im one happy, satisfied customer!

This is by far the best hair braiding shop ever. My first time and first experience was a major plus. They were polite, welcoming, clean and my hair was most definitely the cutest ever! Yes! Ill be going back and so should you!

All I can say my experience was better than I could ever imagine. Great atmosphere. Excellent braiders and Jamilah is a woman of integrity. I say that because on Saturday it will be 2 weeks since I got my box braids. Last week a few fell out. To make a long story short Jamilah fixed my braids for me and applied a couple of products and sent me home with a little of the edge control she sells in her shop (which is amazing) Ill be back! I found my permanent braiding shop!

There Was 3 Ladies Ahead Of Me Already But It Took Them No Time Getting Me Seated To Start My Senegalese Twists ! Started Around 8:45 AM & Finished Around 5:20 PM ( My Hair Is Thick & Shoulder Length ) I Loved The Outcome Of My Twists ! They Can Braid A Little Bit Too Tight Though ! I Dont Recommend Them If U Are Tender Headed ! All Of The Ladies Are Sweet & Well Mannered ! Nice Establishment Jamilah ! Patronize !

The first time I went, I LOVED my hair. My braids were perfect. I went 2 weeks ago and just noticed that I now have 2 bald spots from where my hair was braided too tight. I thought the pain was normal at first (my head usually hurts up to three days after I get braids). When I realized it had been over a week and I was still having headaches, I became very concerned. I had scabs to form where a few of the braids were started. I began applying oil 3x a day to soften only to reveal bald spots!If you go there PLEASE speak up if the braids are too tight even if thats normal for you. Please dont end up like me.I even called Jamilah and asked if it was okay if I came to her shop to show her what happened. She told me, Yes. I arrived at her shop 23 minutes later. Jamilah was gone and her phone went straight to VoiceMail. I left a message for her and she did not call back.

I love coming here... I drive over an hour just to let her fix my hair. Highly recommended

They were nice people so I really hate having to write this review, but for $200 I expect to get what I came in for. Not what you want me to have or what makes you more money.

She did a really good job on my hair

Braiders do a great job, and they dont braid extremely tight, so you keep your edges. I got long box braids. It took about 4 1/2 hours with two people. Very friendly crew.

Its hard finding a shop to go to that you actually like, especially when you have natural hair, but the staff & atmosphere here is very professional and friendly, my hair came out looking just like I wanted & the price wasnt bad. Definitely will be my go to shop.

I needed to find a braid shop quick after I got my quick weave taken out. These ladies at Jamilahs are very sweet and fast! A shop in Mobile I used to go to took 7-8 hours; the braided at Jamilahs took 4. They listen to your concerns, and make sure they get the job done right. 5/5 stars, would recommend to a friend.

Dirty over crowded

This is the best African hair braid shop. The people are very friendly and warm and everyone has great personalities but besides that my hair alwaysssss look great and I always get so many compliments on my hair when I go and they last for a long time too. I definitely recommend them to anyone that wants braids and wants them to look good.

I didn’t have a good experience with this shop. I waited over an hour after having made an appointment, and got there early.I asked when I walked in if they took credit cards because I forgot to stop by the bank on my way, and was told yes that’s fine, don’t worry. That was a lie! Why, idk because I had plenty of time to get cash and come back.After my hair was finished, I ended up getting my card taken from me (thinking she was going to swipe to charge me but NOPE) I was then told to get in the car because I was being driven to an ATM. We went to the most suspect looking gas station with bars on the window and guys just sitting outside. The whole time I felt like “what did I get myself into!”Upon getting to my friends house after my appointment, I asked how does it look. We played around trying different styles and come to find out there is a big patch of my braided hair in the back that did NOT have any crotchet hair in it. I could not bun my hair without a noticeable patch of missing crotchet hair visible. My friend had to add my leftover hair, that was still in the package to the back of my head.At the end of the day, I payed too much money, and traveled too far for a half done expensive crotchet job. On the phone, they will tell you whatever to get you in the door. “Do you do the feeder/individual crotchet? Yes!” But when I got there, it was a different story.I would not go back for crotchet to this shop! People who got more intricate braiding styles, their hair looked beautiful! But for something like a sew-in or crotchet, I would not recommend this place. A young girl was in there crying because she was told that she couldn’t get her hair how she wanted after they already started her sew-in.Oh, and for whatever reason the A/C was not on. A lady had to sit her baby’s car seat near the open door to feel the breeze and not over heat while she was getting her hair done.FOR THE PRICE, I WOULD EXPECT MUCH BETTER CUSTOMER CARE.

I called this morning and Jamilah told me to come on in. She had two people to do small box braids on my head. I made it at 920a. They started at 925 and was done by 115p.

Asked for Senegalese Twists and got box braid twists with box braid parting as well. Not sure what happened this time as I normally never have an issue with the service offered here! Also, scalp is wayyy too tight so I wont be going back for a while and probably will take these down in a few weeks if they dont loosen up!

Love my braids! Jamilahs niece did my whole head by herself in 5 hours which was good! I was expecting to have 2 ppl but her niece did such a great job that I didnt mind. My only complaint is i had to wait almost 2 hours before anyone started and bc I was getting box braids and they overbooked, I was told twice to let them start someone else bc they were getting a different type of braid. Overall I had a good experience and will be going back!

I picked this shop because of the reviews so of course I had to leave one of my own. I appreciated the cleaniless of the building and the professionalism of the braiders. My daughter got box braids and I got senegalese twists and for a Friday afternoon it didnt take too long. I was surprised at how quick they were getting people in and out. The lady who did my daughters braids were great. Shes 6 and while she was braiding and even today, 2 days later, her hair has not hurt. I will definitely go back.
