2019 was a very tough year for me indeed, being told you need a multi-level fusion was my worst nightmare. * weeks ago, on November 20, 2019 Dr. Serge Obukhoff changed my life forever, this is my story. 11 years ago, I was involved in a car accident that damaged disc C4 and C5. A year after the accident it was determined that the brachial plexus nerves had been compromised and I began to lose function in my right arm. A Kaiser surgeon then recommended I undergo a laminectomy to relive pressure on the brachial plexus to regain function of my arm. Surgery was simply not an option for me as I had several friends and former athletes that had undergone various spine surgeries and the results were terrible. I found a great chiropractor and started yoga and other homeopathic remedies. My symptoms were masked for the next 10 years and I enjoyed regular fitness and sporting activities. I played in several basketball and volleyball leagues as well maintained my regular gym regiment. I felt good for the most part but still dealt with numbness in my right arm. In 2019 that same numbness became worse and I also started to feel numbness in my left hand. Headaches and dizziness also became regular symptoms as clearly something was not going well for me neurologically. I visited a neurosurgeon local to me and another MRI was performed. The results of this scan were terrible as now the damaged disc included C4, C5, C6 and C7. The herniation of these disc had now begun to bruise my spinal cord and images on the MRI showed a potential for significant paralysis if any additional damage occurred. This doctor said my ONLY option was a multi-level (3 level) fusion and that he also wanted to perform a laminectomy to relieve pressure on my spinal cord. The surgery needed to be performed immediately and he wanted me in the hospital ASAP. After another consultation it seemed a fusion was my only option and my prognosis seemed bleak. As an athlete a 3-level fusion is game changer and my activities post-surgery would certainly be limited. Thank GOD that one night late I spent time on the internet doing research on artificial disc for spine injuries. I found incredible videos on the Mobi-C device by Zimmer Biomet. This device was successfully being used for multi-level spine injuries as an effective treatment option. Through more research I was able to locate Dr. Serge Obukhoff and my life has been completely transformed. He spent so much time with me in his Beverly Hills office going over my injury and explaining exactly what my options were. With great care we put together a plan to attack my injury and still maintain mobility in my neck to continue my active lifestyle. The surgery lasted 4 hours and the moment I woke up for the first time in 10 years I could feel my right arm. All the numbness was gone, and I can say I got extremely emotional being able to feel my son hold my right hand in the recovery room. The last 8 weeks I have made incredible strides and I can proudly say I am pain free for the first time in years! I am getting stronger every day and should be cleared to full activity in the next few weeks. Let me say again I am pain free and have full feeling in my right and left arm. I have been able to walk at least 4 miles every day for the last 3 weeks and I am dying to start running and lifting soon. Dr. Serge Obukhoff is an incredibly gifted surgeon who gave me my life back and for that I am forever grateful. I would highly recommend him for any procedure but especially recommend him for complex multi-level procedures. There is simply no one better!

My experience with Dr Obukhoff The Center for Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery has been great. I have always felt that I was in competent hands throughout the office visits, the surgery, and recovery. There were no surprises, and that gave me peace of mind and helped keep me stay calm and relaxed. Maggie his medical assistant was always very patient in answering my questions and explained her answers completely. Serge Obukhoff is an awesome Neurosurgeon who cares about his patients. He is kind compassionate, extremely patient, and knowledgable. I cant say enough kind things about him. Dr. Obukhoff is conservative in his approach and you can trust that he is making the best decisions about your care. He takes the time to explain and educate you on all aspects including benefits and risks. I had a C4-7 Artificial Disc Replacement surgery on 7/16/18 and a L3 thru L5 lumbar fusion on 9/20/2018 at Monrovia Hospital and the surgery went very well. Thanks to Dr. Obukhoff I am on the way to getting my life back. I know I have many months and lots of pain to be back 100%. However this is the first time since being rear ended last October I have been able to feel my my feet and to use my arms. I highly recommend Dr. Obukhoff !!!!!!I hope to never to have neurosurgery again, but if I need to I would not hesitate to ask for Dr Serge Obukhoff.
