Had an appointment for a routine eye exam yesterday. Ive been going to the eye Dr since early childhood but usually have some anxiety at Drs appointments, and this was one of the absolute best appointments Ive had! Tiffany (front desk and initial testing/photos) was SO friendly, personable, and competent, and checked me in/got my initial tests and photos done quickly and set me at ease as soon as I came in. Dr. Lawrence was extremely efficient, very friendly, and professional. He had taken time to look at my photos before even coming into the exam room, and was able to give me some really good suggestions for new contacts and ways to address a couple of issues I had been experiencing due to allergies. Daniel was the gentleman who completed my paperwork with me at the end, and he was friendly and professional, and took the time to make sure I had all my questions answered. I highly recommend this office to anyone seeking efficient, professional, friendly, competent eye care! Five stars!!

If you are purchasing new glasses there, be aware, you might be SCAMMED! I purchased a Lafont frame for $700 for a new pair of glasses to realize back home that I had ben sold a USED frame !!! One of the branch was loose, had been previously molded to fit someone else and the engraved name inside the branch was erased due to excessive ware. I complained and they replaced this used pair with a new one but these people are careless and will scam you if you don t pay attention and if the scam is not as obvious as it was for me.

I have been at this eye doctor for 3-4 years total and have seen 3 different doctors (whoever was free during my appointment). I have always had an amazing experience there and highly refer them to everybody. The staff are all so kind, the doctors are amazing at what they do, and the office is an old house so its super cute and feels more relaxed when you go in.

Moved from out of state so was looking for new eye doctor, this was the fastest eye doctor experience I ever had. The doctor was super friendly and made sure all my questions were answered before leaving. The glasses specialists were also super helpful rather than have me browse, they asked me what I like and brought me frames that fit that requirement and their selections were spot on. They also helped me decided on options that work best with my insurance. I found my new eye doctor!

Its expensive to purchase glasses here and unfortunately mine dont fit but the opticians did try to adjust them many times. I still dont know why we couldnt get them to work.

Update: I did get a response and an apology, which was greatly appreciated. For all of you in need of eye care, educate yourself about signs of retinal detachment to be able to act quickly and save your vision!I have been a patient for years, but will not go back. When traveling abroad, I developed strange visual symptoms and called my doctor. He talked to me over the phone (very reluctantly, they told me he had little time for me even in an emergency) and told me that I had nothing to worry about and did not need to go in. This delayed me seeking care, I had a retinal detachment with macula off and got stuck abroad for months. I do not begrudge the doctor this error, it is hard to know what is going on without an exam. However, once my friends and family called with an update asking for retinal surgery referrals, the office showed zero concern or regret over advice that delayed my care and costs me some of my vision, now impaired. My sense has always been that people at this office are far more interested in selling you expensive glasses than in your actual wellness and this sealed the deal. Overpriced, not highly caring or responsive.

My vision is relatively good and no extensive tests were necessary therefore I was able to go in and out in 30 min. The staff was very accommodation. Dr. Levy was very knowledgeable and took the time to explain and answer my questions. They also provide glasses and lenses on premise. I couldnt be happier with the medical/exam part of Bethesda Vision Care! Dr. Levy was very nice, personable, and thorough in his eye exam. In all honesty, its probably the best eye exam I can remember having. That being said, things started to fall apart a bit when I went downstairs to buy my new yearly supply of contacts. The original price they quoted me was roughly $175 (after insurance, not including $30 in co-pays) for the new contacts. After haggeling for a bit and convincing them to price match online, they eventually gave me the Costco price which came to $200 (before insurance) and $89.99 (after insurance, including the $30 co-pays). Look, I get that its a business and theyre trying to turn a profit, its just annoying going through the whole negotiation process every time Im at an eye doctor. Look, I get it...your trying to run a business and turn a profit. It would just be nice if youd offer your best price upfront and get rid of the haggeling. In fact, I bet if you ran a strong marketing campaign and advertised that you match or beat Costcos price on all Contacts that you would see a huge increase in customer volume! Just saying...

I saw Dr. Glasgow as a new patient last month and she was fantastic. I appreciated the time that she took to explain all of her recommendations in detail and answered all of my questions. Even better, I was very pleased with all of the staff at Bethesda Vision Care. The receptionists were friendly and pleasant to greet me, the technicians that took care of the initial eye tests before I saw Dr. Glasgow were friendly and competent, and the opticians were very helpful in finding a snazzy new set of frames for me. I took some time to write this post because I also wanted to comment on my follow-up experience picking up my new glasses and coming back for adjustments, which I normally need to do at least once any time I get new frames. I was still pleased with all of my interactions with the Bethesda Vision Care staff and I am so happy to have found such a great new practice!

I went to Bethesda Vision Care for the first time this past Monday. I scheduled an appointment on Friday as a brand new patient and they accommodated me really quickly and efficiently! I saw Dr. Levy for a previous eye issue that was never solved by my former optometrist. He took extra time during my appointment to back track my history and find out everything he needed to know in order to properly help me get better. He prescribed me a pricey but fast acting prescription in order to get me feeling healthy in a shorter amount of time. He warned me about the price beforehand which I really appreciated. The only reason I didnt give Bethesda Vision Care 5 stars is because I dont like how they charge you separately for each service. I also dont like how you have to submit an invoice to your own insurance company to get reimbursed for treatment. I think that all doctors (no matter the practice) should have a separate billing department to deal with insurance so that the patient doesnt have to. Not everyone speaks the insurance coverage language. Ive seen other reviews on here bashing the front desk reception staff for not taking more control over the insurance / payment issues, but I dont think thats fair because the front desk is there to shuttle patients through to their doctors quickly and effectively and to assist in scheduling and processing health forms. They do a great job of that.

Having had a GREAT recent experience, I was again reminded why Ive been a loyal patient / customer of Bethesda Vision Care for 10 years. After the frames on my 3 year old glasses (bought else where) broke, I met with Ryan to get them replaced only to find the model had been discontinued. Being a good sales person, he showed me some new frames but when I expressed my desire to replace the existing frames, he tried his darnedest find replacements through secondary markets (as did I). When we both came up empty, Ryan worked w me to find new frames that I liked. I discovered after doing some online shopping that I could get frames close to what Ryan showed me cheaper. I mentioned this to Ryan who respectfully outlined the benefits of buying from his shop. I ended up deciding to pay a bit more and buy from Ryan...and it paid off in spades. After getting the new glasses, which came exactly as promised, I realized that I wished for slightly smaller lenses and a slightly different shape...no problem. Ryan hooked me up big. Thanks Bethesda Vision Care & Thanks Ryan!

My contact lens in my left eye was bothering me even when I switched to new pairs so I came here. The doctor asked me a few questions and examined my eye. He concluded that I have irritation in my cornea, so I just needed to leave my contact lenses out of my eyes for 3 days while putting lubricating eye drops and ointment in my eyes. I did this and came back for my scheduled follow up 3 days later. The doctor checked my eye and said the irritation was gone, that I was ready to put them back in, and that these things tend to heal themselves. Well, I left, put the contacts back in and continued to have the same problem. That was a waste of time and money. They made me submit itemized receipts to my insurance company to get reimbursed, which is not what is supposed to be done. So thats also a waste of time for me. UPDATE: They contacted me about my complaint and I discovered that I had been out-of-network this whole time. They never told me this even when I gave them my insurance card. That is misrepresentation.

Even though I live across the street from this place, I looked them up on Davis visions database to make sure they accept my insurance. Once it was assured they did, I walked up there to order some contacts. They told me that through insurance, examination is covered but evaluation is not, and that would be upwards of $90. I called up my insurance who pointed out that evaluation is covered if I order contacts from a set list on their website. So, I told the staff of this information and they accepted that in this case evaluation was covered, but they werent used to ordering contacts through insurance! I was a bit surprised but insisted that Id like to use my insurance. They warned that it might take weeks to get my order, while they take 3-4 days if ordered directly. I said thatll be okay. They were definitely not happy with my choice, but scheduled my appointment.Over the next two weeks, I had various appointments with Dr Song to finalize my prescription. She was a breeze to deal with and definitely better than many doctors Ive had before. This is the only reason I didnt give this place one star!Once the prescription was finalized, the staff was asked to submit my order through the insurance. They were visibly frustrated to deal with insurance again and asked me to be seated. After waiting for 20-30 minutes, I was told that they were seeing an error in the order. I asked them if they could call the insurance to figure out the error. The reply? Ive already dropped everything to do this... now I dont have time until next week to followup on this..I was shocked at this. I ended up calling my insurance to figure out what the error was. But I also let them know that I was extremely dissatisfied with their attitude with people who have insurance and would like to use it! Id suggest they dont enroll to be insurance databases if they dont prefer to deal with insurance.Update:I got a call from the owner of the place. He said that due to my disappointment with the place, they wouldnt want to do any business with me. They canceled my prescription and asked me to find another place. After almost a month of finalizing contacts, the process starts all over!I understand that dealing with insurance is a real pain, but if a place is losing customers because of their frustration with insurance, then they should just stop dealing with insurance. Overall, Dr Song was nice, and the owner was really nice in calling himself, but the overall experience was ridiculous.

Got the test, the glasses, and contacts. I had a migraine shortly after using the new prescription, and when I went in, was told that my eyes were fine and that the new prescription was not the cause of the migraine (I got the impression that I was crazy because the Dr. didnt really think there could be a correlation).Fast-forward to two days ago, new prescription at a new place...I was over-prescribed by .5 in both eyes! A pain in the back of my head/neck, that I thought was chronic at this point (and started after I had the migraines) has practically disappeared. My eyes could have spontaneously improved, or the migraine and head aches was distress from a poor prescription. It would seem it was the latter. It sounds like other people (some people on Yelp) have had good experiences here, but consistency is important, and all it takes is one bad experience like this to never go back again and encourage all of your friends and colleagues at the NIH and in Bethesda to AVOID going there.

I had a new prescription from my (excellent) eye doctor and went to BVC for the first time to get new reading glasses and prescription sun glasses. They recommended high definition lenses and I chose frames (not the least expensive but not the priciest either). After health care discounts, the total cost would have been about $1800. They also pressed me to have a new exam with their doctor, insisting that it was necessary because my prescription was unusual. I said no.I realized after declining to purchase the two pairs of glasses that they had taken my health care cards early on in the process and determined what I could cover under my insurance before making recommendations on the new eye exam and pricey lenses. Not the most ethical way to generate business, in my view.I am sure their services and products are high quality, but would prefer not to be steamrolled where cost is concerned.

Well, for a company that is supposed to care for your eyes they seem to be more interested in selling the most expensive product you hardly need. The medical exam was fine but somehow I was strongly recommended costly progressive lenses which work in some fantastic way to give me such a fantastic vision. The selling department do a great job to then pick expensive frames and then telling you the lenses are $350 each! I walked out after paying $1250 for a pair of glasses that broke after a couple of years. A more honest eye doctor in Italy said that progressive lenses for a guy my age are nonsense; a typical marketing tactic used in the US. The result? I was prescribed the lenses I am wearing today with a new frame plus full eye exam for about $300! at my eye doctor in Italy. See the problem here?

Excellent service, excellent service, and did I mention excellent service? I went in to get my broken glasses serviced, and even though they did not have the right parts, somehow my attendant custom-fit new nosepads onto my old glasses. They even provided this service for free!Eye exam: quite literally the easiest eye exam I have ever had, even with the dilation. Somehow one of the attendants even knew how to put in the eyedrops with my eyes closed (directly onto the teardrop) and then have me open them, which is so much easier than anything I have ever done before. In short: very knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly staff.Glasses: they did not have the kind I wanted (with magnetic clip-on sunglasses), but they were able to order it. I am waiting for the delivery so I cannot say much else here, except that I expect them to be comparable to my previous ones which I bought at Pearl Vision almost 10 years ago.Price: I was literally shocked to hear the price of it all, which was at least twice what I expected. However: (1) this is for a fully decked-out pair of glasses (thinner lenses that are polished at the edges after being cut, lightweight and strong Titanium frames, the newer Scotch guard that protects against dust & water, and more standard stuff like anti-glare/anti-reflective coating, plus really cool magnetic clip-on sunglasses that I can add & remove even while running without having to remove the entire glasses - also, they remind me of The Matrix:); (2) if you want cheap eyeglasses, you can go to places like Wal-Mart, but these fashion eyeglasses are not anywhere near the same kind; (3) they only offer high-quality parts - for instance they use only Zeiss lenses; (4) I did not know that I had vision insurance (I was offered one by my workplace but turned it down), and even after I had already decided to go ahead and pay the price, my agent asked to see my health insurance card anyway, discovered that I did indeed have a form of vision insurance, and was able to knock off a third of the price. (BTW, did I mention the excellent service?:) For someone like me that used to get headaches from my heavy eyeglasses and having to remove them after coming home each day (leaving me seeing blurry at home), and who spends about 12 hours every day staring at a computer screen both at work and at home, the additional price is well worth the features that make them lighter and more functional & useful, so I can keep them on all day and night without even noticing that they are there. Conclusion: Excellent service, well worth the price. I would definitely return here, especially now that I know that I have vision insurance.;-)
