This is perhaps the best dental practice Ive ever been to. Dr. Meetu Moody is an excellent surgeon, with a lovely chair side manner. I felt comfortable and assured in what would be happening, and the actual procedure was - dare I say - easy and comfortable. The staff is friendly and efficient, and their processes regarding appointments and insurance are buttoned up. Its all very patient centric - all you have to do is concentrate on your health and getting better. I have a fair amount of dentist anxiety and this entire process could not have been easier or more pleasant. Really.

I was referred to Dr. Horn in November 2019 for an emergency implant matter and after speaking with the front desk for an appointment in November, I was told that they only had the beginning of February (so I thought) and that the paperwork with the appointment date would be mailed to me. After several months, the matter progressively got worse causing me to reach back out to Dr. Horns office to be told that I didnt have an appointment in their system. I was also told that work was being done in the office implying my oral matter was not urgent. I was then referred to see another doctor in the office today of which I was not interested in doing so. I mentioned to the receptionist that this was unusual because I thought that I was given a date of Feb 5th and because I was not stationary when I phoned to make the appointment, I was told the paperwork with the date and new patient information would be mailed to me. Well its now past Feb 5th and I have yet to receive anything in the mail and now I am told that an appointment was never scheduled. Naturally, this was upsetting to me, that this office had no immediate concern for my oral health issues or the referral from my dentist. When I said all of this, the receptionist now noticed that I DID have an appointment and it was for Feb 25, 2020. Okay, after being told I had no appointment and then being offered to see another doctor in the office was all due to the receptionist misspelling my name that caused this oversight that was only noticed now. I then asked why hadnt the paperwork with the appointment date been mailed as it was going on three months. I was told that she would be putting it in the mail today which for me was unacceptable as I would have needed to know this earlier and now have scheduled several meetings at work on this appointment date.I understand this group has exceptional reviews; but as a new patient, this is highly indicative of such reviews and quite frankly not someplace I wish to be seen if this is how new patients are treated. Never have I received such poor service from any medical office or professional in particular to an URGENT oral matter and bubble sized gums would rate as urgent!

I had an extraction scheduled with Dr. Horn after closely researching for the best. Upon calling I immediately knew I was in good professional hands. The staff were very thorough and descriptive on what to have ready at time of appointment and what to expect.Arrival at the office - I was pleasantly greeted by a bubbly staff who had my forms ready to fill out while they notified the doctor of arrival. I had a few questions on the procedure (maybe a little nervous) and the staff was informative and maybe even told the doctor I was a little nervous. Immediately after the introduction to meeting the doctor he assured me of the procedure and exactly how it was going to be and made me feel comfortable. I consider myself extremely lucky to have Dr. Horn as my periodontist. He worked miracles on helping me regain my smile despite a very difficult case that involved removing an old implant that had been placed incorrectly 10 years before, and that impacted a healthy tooth that also had to be extracted. Dr. Horn is is not only an excellent periodontist but is also a very caring and warm person who genuinely cares about his patients and loves his job. The office staff is also amazing and I feel like I visit a big happy family when I go for my checkups. I highly recommend this practice.

My previous dentist told me that I needed a “Sinus Lift” which he said he couldn’t do and I would have to go elsewhere. At that time, I had never heard the term “Sinus Lift” and hadn’t a clue what it meant! After 10 weeks of internet research and many unsatisfactory visits to several dental offices, I finally found Dr Horn.Through my research, I had gained some knowledge and understanding of the surgical procedure; the various methods that could be employed; how it would be staged etc. On my first visit, after examination, Dr Horn proposed how he would approach the Sinus Lift and how he would insert the implant at the same time. He saw that I had some comprehension and interest in what was involved and patiently answered all my questionsOn the day of my surgery, as I lay in the dental couch, more than a little nervous, he kept me in picture with step by step narration of how it was progressing. I had minimal discomfort during the surgery and upon completion, a bite wing x ray was taken and displayed on the monitor. The implant looked perfectly positioned with a dome of graphed bone around it! I was very happy.It is now 48 hours since surgery and I have had very little pain and no visible swelling. Dr Horn is an extremely skilled dentist, a good humored man and very kind. I’m glad I eventually found him. The support and front office staff are also very friendly and diligent.James M.

I was very pleased with Berkeley Periodontics. Dr. Maharathi was thorough in the assessment exam and explained my options clearly. The office scheduled my appointments promptly and kept me on track with clear communications. Subsequent procedures seem to have gone well. Time will tell but I think they have given it their best shot and for this I am grateful.

I have been a patient for many years. Every visit I find the staff very pleasant and accommodating.My experiences have always been excellent, even though its not the most fun place to go.Would highly recommend. The Periodontists are professional, courteous and most importantly, good.

So far as dental experiences go, this one was by far the best.The staff was great about explaining to me what to expect. The periodontist was very gentle with the experience and also explained each treatment action before he provided it.I am at the day after the procedure with minimal pain and swelling.I would highly recommend these periodontist to anyone seeking dental implants😁

While I give my 5 stars to Dr. Barron Hong and his assistant (no doubt), I can not hide my disappointment with the staff team.Both of my primary and secondary dental insurance were provided well in advance. However, not until 1 minute before I was walking into the surgery room, in the hallway, I was told by the staff that my secondary insurance does not provide coverage, which meant I had to pay $1500 more out of my pocket on that day for the first half of my surgery. I made my decision to proceed on the surgery based on the previous estimated quote I received from the office, but ended up paying $2500 more than I was told.Thats not the end of it. I was particularly disappointed by one staff from the billing/finance office, whose first name start with H. As a patient, while I was depending on their expertise to help me better understand what / how / where those extra costs were came from and how can I get a more accurate quote for the second half of my surgery, she was not patient at all and basically repeated that it is my issue if I cannot understand it. She did not have the basic characteristics for working in the finance and working in the health care industry.I do not typically write reviews. However, when I do experienced in a place where customers are more likely to be treated unfairly, I will speak up.This place is one of the best periodontics office in Berkeley. You do get the best doctors in town, but may have to deal with some unprofessional individuals and some surprises on the way.

My specialist was Dr Hong and he was very gentle and very concerned about my comfort almost to a fault. Katy his assistant was wonderful. She made sure I understood everything I needed to know for my recovery.Everyone of their staff l encountered was very friendly and personable.A well oiled machine.

Dr. Horn is the best! Hes a very personable caring person and he makes every procedure so much easier by his warm attitude. He communicates well and doesnt talk down to you. The office staff are very professional and pleasant. Its the most organized professional office Ive ever been to.

If you have to have gum surgery, this is the place to go. Everyone in the office was great and Dr. Maharathi and his assistant did a fabulous job. He was careful, kind, and it hardly hurt at all. Its been over one month since the surgery and the discomfort is minimal and the new gums are growing in nicely. Highly recommend.

Gum graft was no picnic. I had a lot of bruising but luckily no pain. I bruise super easy, so this was no surprise. Dr. Hong was great. Very professional, knowledgeable and skilled. Every single staff member I came in contact with was super friendly and helpful. And I was there a total of 5 times. Consultation, procedure and 3 follow ups.What I really appreciated was the up front estimate. I was told exactly how much I would have to pay BEFORE I even made an appointment for the procedure. And thats exactly what I ended up paying. No surprise additional costs.I will definitely go back for any further procedures.

Chanda, my favorite hygienist, is very diligent and she always ensures that I am comfortable. And... my recent gum surgery with Dr. Horn went very smoothly. I had gum graft surgery with Dr. Horn. He was fantastic. He has a wonderful “bedside manner” - he answered all of my questions before and after surgery and during surgery he explained exactly what he was doing every step of the way (which was comforting). I wholeheartedly recommend Dr Horn. The rest of the Berkeley Perio team was also fantastic - everyone is polite and courteous. All medical/dental offices should look to them as a model.

Dr Hong is absolutely fabulous. Ive seen him 3 times now and he engenders complete confidence in his knowledge and skill. He clearly knows his stuff . Hes a great listener as well and does really well with ultra sensitive dental and pain phobic clients ( like me !). I trust him completely. Highly recommend !

When you have to have periodontal work, this was as pleasant an experience as possible. Front staff were responsive and courteous, assistants were knowledgeable, periodontist was skillful and engaged. I also found the classical background music delightfully distracting.

I just finished my implant work with Dr. Horn for my FRONT TOOTH yesterday and I cant be happier and I am about to tell you every details and why I am happy!when I was 8 years old, i got into a car accident and had a lot of issues with my two front teeth. The fell and dentists put it back since it was my permanent tooth. 20 years later, on January I saw one of them got infected and three dentists told me that you cant save the tooth and you have to get an implant. My tooth was loose and I was in pain and had to start the procedure ASAP! At the time I was student and didnt really have the money specially since insurance does NOT cover implant. (dental insurance in US sucks even the best ones). I was looking for great dentist mainly because it was my front tooth and I was willing to pay anything for it. I spent more 10 hours on internet searching and reading about prices, reviews, and procedure. and I came across Berkeley Perio and Dental Implants. they had so many good reviews. I even messed a few people who wrote reviews and asked questions about their experience. Dr. Horn name came up the most on the reviews so I chose him. And when I called the office, I was told that Dr. Horns next available time is in three months. I panicked told the receptionist about my situation and the fact that it was my front tooth and it was infected and loose so I cant wait for 3 months. She was a supper nice person (I wish i could remember her name but I think she had Hispanic accent) and so she said let me see what I can do and she called me back the next day. And she was able to schedule me for next week.So I went to my dentist, got a state plate (the temporary tooth since it was my front tooth) ready in three days. and in that one week, I was reading and watching a lot of videos to learn about the process because I didnt know anything about it. Once I met Dr. Horn, he walked me through the end to end procedure and warned me that this will take about 8 months. First of all, I was with my boy friend, and even though the room was so tiny, he found a place for him to sit and made him feel comfortable. and as he was working on my tooth, he was showing and explaining to my boy friend what he was doing. So on the first day, he pulled my tooth and did bone graph. He said I dont know if your tooth needs bone graph until I open and see and I needed it because bacteria ate all the bone inside and there was almost no bone left to secure the implant. so he did bone graph and they usually wait for about 4 month until the bone is formed and then they do the actual implant and put the screw. So there were two main visits for me 1) extraction and bone graph ~ 1 hour 2) implant ~ 1 hour and after each one I had to see Dr. Horn about 3 time (15min) for him to check the progress and make sure its healing. So over all I would say it was about 8 visits. But I only had to pay for the two main visits. I would say the painful one is the bone graph and I was in pain for about a week mainly because the tissue are sensitive after that much work being done on them. But after implant I had almost no pain.the cost is : State Plate= $500, Extraction plus Bone graph = ~$2,800 and implant = $2,400 and I have to go back to my dentist to do the crown and I am assuming that will be another $1,200. As you know its very expensive but I am happy with the work Dr. Horn did and he is just such an amazing human being and I always enjoyed seeing him and chatting with him. I first visited these offices for periodontal care when I was in my 30s. I continue to use these periodontal services now that I am in my 70s. I have other choices available, but chose , first Dr. Lodberg, & now that she is retired, choose to see Dr. Horn for periodontal work. My dentition has always been rather challenging, and these peridontists have managed the situation rather well. Obviously, Id recommend them.
