I started going to this group with Dr Mattson SR approximately 25 years ago. Dr Mattson Sr was one of the best Dentist I’ve ever gone to. When he decided to retire, I knew he would have the same excellent standard having someone take over his patients. Then came in Dr Ben Hellickson.😁 He’s very professional, kind and and an excellent dentist.(a perfectionist) which I personally love about him. My smile displays his art, my face is the frame displaying his artistic articulatecreation. The whole office staff is very professional and very caring and kind. I highly recommend this practice if you need a new Dentist or just wanting a change.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I get a little freaked out when I go to the dentist. But since I’ve started going to this dentistry. My experiences have been the best. Smiling faces when you come in and the atmosphere of the new place Just calms you down. The way they treat their patients with great respect. I can’t say enough. I thank everyone there. I love this group.

When I was new in Portland I started looking for a new dentist. I went to several dental offices downtown before I asked my colleagues who they would recommend. Dr. Mattson was recommended to me and I’m so glad I listened to my colleague.Dr. Mattson is great! Before he does any treatments he talks to me about the procedures and his treatment plan. He explains everything and especially since English is not my first language, he is always making sure that I understand everything he is saying. He is never in a rush and always very very friendly.I wholeheartedly recommend Sam Mattson!

Hi, have been a continuous patient of Dr. Mattson and now Mattson Hellickson since 1982. Great. No plans to change. Would recommend to anyone. This visit was different. Love the new clinic. The person doing gum cavity depth measurements pushed very hard. 6 months ago they pushed very hard also. Had never experienced that previously. It hurt pretty badly. I hope pushing that hard is necessary. Once my check-up was finished I waited in the chair 35 minutes for the Dentist to come check on me. The office staff kindly and courteously kept me informed that he was in a procedure and it would be just a bit longer. This was too long. Oh well. Thank you for keeping my chompers going. See you in 6 months.

Brand new location & equipment, layout, etc. everything looks state of the art and very modern. What’s stayed the same is impeccable service, especially the caring & respectful ‘bedside manner’ of hygienist & Dr Mattson. The old crew is as awesome as they’ve always been & new faces appeared to be cut from the same cloth. Nice to see them all glowing in their new digs.

My husband and I can’t speak highly enough of Dr. Ben and his professional staff. We’ve had some emergency dental issues in the past couple of years that were treated quickly which resulted in successful outcomes. Dr. Ben takes good care of us and we feel fortunate to have him as our dentist. We’ve recommended him to family and friends.

I’m a long time patient, over 35 years with the same practice! In my opinion, Drs. Hellickson and Mattson are at the top of their profession. I value the high quality dental work that I’ve had over the years, and the excellent preventative care from Dr. Hellickson and the excellent dental hygienists on the team! The MR group has recently moved into their new facility, designed with the newest equipment and beautiful architectural design.

Always had a great experience here. Dr Mattson was very nice and the dental assistants were personable and sweet. Xrays are always painful for me and they worked very hard to make it as easy as possible.

Being a patient of Mattson Hellickson Dental is like having my dental health in the hands of the most capable, cohesive, friendly, and caring group of people in the business. Literally every one of the employees has been part of this team for many years, and it certainly shows in the care that they provide for their patients. It honestly feels like being part of a family. I can’t imagine trusting mine or my own family’s dental needs to anyone else!

I dont normally write these things but the bad rating made me so annoyed I felt compelled. My experience with Dr. Sam has been amazing! He took a mouth full of bad dental advice from other dentists over the years and in less than a year, gave me a smile to be proud of. The man is a miracle worker and has a great chair side demeanor. Easy to talk to, non-judgmental and went way above and beyond what any other dentist would do to make me feel at ease. He is highly ethical in that he chose to save a couple of teeth rather than pull and put in much costlier replacements. Now my whole family goes to see him with the same positive experiences as well AND I refer all my friends to his practice too. The whole staff is great and this dentist is the best I have ever had. I really can’t believe anyone would rate anything except a 5 and it sounds like the bad experience isnt even Dr. Sams fault! Great dental office, great hygienists, great dentist. Period.

Dr. Mattson and his practice have absolutely positively earned every single one of them and then some.Dr. Mattson is a second-generation dentist, and shares the practice with his father. Having grown up around dentistry, It is plainly evident by everything that happens in that practice that Dr. Mattson thoroughly loves being a dentist. From the second I sat down in his chair, up until I left. Dr. Mattson and his staff were all courteous, compassionate, professional, and superb at their duties.Dr. Mattsons chair-side manner is the best I have ever experienced. He genuinely cares about his patients and their well-being, taking the time to explain every aspect of your procedure in sufficient detail that even someone as hugely dental-phobic as I am is put at ease. My procedures were all conducted quickly, smoothly, and professionally, and Im absolutely thrilled with the results.Im very happy to say that I have found a dentist for life. I never thought I would enjoy going to the dentist but I actually look forward to my visit with this team. They really get to know you on a personal level and make it enjoyable while sitting in the chair. I can not recommend DR. Mattson and his team enough.

Like another reviewer, I felt compelled to post a positive review due to a negative one that was left. Dr Mattson is the best dentist Ive ever had...and Ive been through a ton of dentists. The hygienists are extremely gentle on your teeth and Dr Mattson always takes his time to check to make sure everything is healthy in my mouth. Everyone in the office is really nice as well. Overall a very pleasant experience every time I go or I wouldnt drive all the way from NE Pdx to see him. Very highly recommended!!!

Dr.Ben Hellickson has served as me and my families dentist over the past 4 years while living in Oregon. We drive all the way from Wilsonville to use him because we love him that much. It’s sort of funny because we drive pass tons of dentist on the way but not once has that bothered me or my family. One may ask why, I say because he is the best and worth the drive, not to mention my 19 year old son thinks he’s an awesome dentist! He provides an amazing personalable experience to each patient. His professionalism and dental skills made me feel extremely comfortable unlike the first dentist I saw when I first moved to Oregon. After seeing Dr. Ben on my first visit I went home and told me husband “I found a great dentist that reminds me of my favorite dentist back in Va”! Dr.Ben does not request his clients to pay for unnecessary dental work if not needed. He is very conscious of maintaining his clients dental health and forecasting work that he sees maybe needed in the future which allows for his clients to plan out financially , as we know some dental work can be expensive. Lastly from the front desk experience to the dental hygienists this office is amazing. I highly recommend Mattson and Hellickerson Dentist!

After coming from a dentist who gave me a bad crown, Mattson seemed like a decent guy. Hes very personable, friendly, generally nice. I got a root canal with an endodontist he recommended to address the crown issue, but something continued bothering me; a slight nagging sensation, barely even pain, in the affected area.It was a small, nagging thing, but going to both Dr. Mattson and the endodontist he recommended got me nothing but confused- often with entirely different answers. His answer shifted from No, its nothing, really. to There might be some infection remaining, but we cant tell yet, we need six months before we can x-ray it to find out (which goes against what his endodontist told me, hilariously.) Finally, it ended up as Oh, your crown (done by a different dentist) has some issues, but it wont be anything serious. Youll need to get them replaced at some point.Its difficult, being a dentist; apparently, teeth look so drastically different day-to-day you cant give a consistent diagnosis...Fast-forward to today. They send me a bill for a visit to keep up on this- mind, these visits were free, until at some point they werent, no one told me, and they lost a digit in my address and only called me about it literally three months later.My mouth is what can be poetically described as a maelstrom of pain, and I decide to go in to pay this bill, see what replacing these supposedly bad crowns costs. I was going to wait until my next cleaning, but this was a good opportunity. Needless to say the amount was outrageous, and I might have been willing to file that under well, thats dentistry- but the kind lady at the desk mentioned it was because of the root canal. Whoops.So, in other words, I have to spend extra money because Dr. Mattson had me get a root canal on a crown he PRESUMABLY knew would have to be replaced. Then they couldnt give me a straight answer.Assuming thats even whats going on- I couldnt talk to Dr. Mattson, since apparently his time is so tremendously valuable he cant even spare a minute to confirm the symptoms Im having make sense with a bad crown.I leave it to the reader, then, to decide if the above is appropriate behavior for a dentist. My answer is no. I suspect he was trying to pull something over my head, but I cant say for sure. I can say, however, that I can no longer trust him in the slightest, and I cannot trust my health to someone I cant trust at all.
