What an amazing looking VA. I needed a new ID card and visited here. My brother in law also needed a CT scan and their new scanner had him done in 15 minutes or less which is mind blowing. Staff was friendly when I spoke to them about my new ID card. They have a store, shops as well as all your medical such as radiology, lab, pharmacy, prosthetic and so much more. Art from veterans is also hanging on the main floor.

I have had many experiences at this facility: primary care, neurology, labs, MRIs, pharmacy, surgery and inpatient care. This is the best healthcare I have had in my life. The majority of the staff have always been courteous, professional and knowledgeable. My fellow veterans are some of the greatest people walking this planet. I am incredibly grateful and blessed in these experiences.

Its another poor attempt by the VA to provide much needed services to Veterans. Ive been there several times and have never been seen on time. My average wait time has been 30 minutes and up to 45 minutes (for a MRI and pharmacy) without anyone asking if Ive been helped. Ive also witnessed a few employees sitting and playing on their phones while older veterans walk around looking for help. Why do you think there are shirts that say I survived a visit to the VA? If youre a civilian and want to truly support Veterans I suggest you contact your Congressman and ask why Veterans receive such poor service from the VA? The VA lacks accountability plain and simple. Dont believe me then just do some research on this facility and the overspending associated with it. This is has happened before and it will continue until more civilians realize just how poorly Veterans are treated at a VA Facility.

I lost my private heath care after getting laid off last year so I started using the VA. I am very pleased with Rocky Mountain Regional. The facility is modern, easy to navigate, and has everything under one roof. Staff has been very good to me. This is not your grandfathers VA. I encourage vets to check it out. I think its just as good if not better then private heath care system. The only complaint I could make is the phone system. But the online services work just fine.

I went to the Aurora location this weekend for a simple urgent care matter. They were using the ER as urgent care since it was after hours. I was treated quickly, professionally, and compassionately by the team, and we were in and out in around 45 minutes (and it may have been even quicker than that). It was one of the best VA experiences I’ve had in 20+ years in the system. I wish all facilities I encountered were of a similar quality.

Well had a hematology appointment. Showed up early to get blood work done. They told me they already took my blood. So went to the appointment and they told me they rescheduled it 2 weeks out. Only at least an hour long drive there. Just called to schedule a follow up with my primary in Golden following an ER visit. Which golden primary told my appointment was with so.e rack clinic in aurora. Rack clinic called me said theyd have scheduling call me which they never did. So I sat on hold for 40 minutes to schedule it my self where I got to listen to screaming kids and another person talking abunch in the back ground. Luckily I only have to miss a day of work so lose those hours, so I can go to the appointment I scheduled today on my day off next Tuesday because when you call to schedule primary care. They just schedule you wherever they want at whatever location they want and told tell you its a different location then your expecting.

The design is HORRIBLE. It takes me at least 30 minutes just to park and walk to my doctors office. There are two parking garages but only one is for patients (but there are no signs indicating this on the street so patients accidentally park there all the time). In the patient parking garage, there are THREE separate entrances and only ONE is for patient parking (there are NO signs telling you how to find that entrance, either - its not visible from the street). If Im lucky enough to find parking (I regularly drive all the way to the top story to find an empty space), then I have to walk AAAAAAAAAALL the way through the mile-long building to find the lettered (A-G) building youre in (A is closest to the parking lot but, if you have to go to bldg G, you must walk the entire length of the facility). Thank God Im not in a wheelchair/crutches/etc. because this would be especially terrible.NONE of the buildings are labeled from the outside, either, so you cant just drop someone off at the correct entrance and then go park. You HAVE TO GO INSIDE to find your correct letter building. Why would they set it up this way? I have a theory: Social Engineering. The same social engineering tactics that stores like Walmart use to keep you in their store for as long as possible in order to pressure you into buying things you dont need. I counted SEVEN stores on the ground floor alone (see pictures). These stores all sell overpriced luxury goods, such as expensive headphones, microwaves, and deep fryers. Let me remind you, THIS IS A HOSPITAL.I HATE going here but I often have to because my clinic in Golden has almost no facilities.A perfect example of government fraud, waste, and abuse. Its obvious that the creators of this building cared more about extorting money from veterans than they did about actually helping people. This sort of behavior is ethically atrocious.

Never, never have I had a dental clinic (yes, I’m 100% SC) tell me on the first call we will call you in two weeks and then on a second call say we dont know when well call you but its greater than a month. Really? It’s very hard to eat on my right side of my mouth and painful at times and this is the treatment I get? And I have been to A LOT of VAs, specifically the Phoenix and Las Vegas VAMCs who could both see me within a week! And it takes you over a month or god knows how long? This is completely unacceptable. At the very least, your dental clinic could have given me an appointment time but instead they are full of a bunch of I dont knows.

I received terrible care at the emergency center todayThis is the worst experience in my 34 year history with v.a hospitals. My doctor was apathetic and unprofessional. When I entered the triage station I told the nurse my pain level was a six. Even though there are non narcotic pain medications in I.V form she never even addressed the issue. That s an ethics and moral issue in the medical fields. And as I stated previously, indicative of apathy and maybe even malpractice. The nurses blew four I.V lines before getting the fifth one in. My nurse said it was because I was severely dehydrated and that s when its hard to get one in. When I mentioned to my doctor that I thought I was very dehydrated she said irritated that I wasnt. Also she gave me a very weak dose of anti nausea medication which didnt help at all and then released me even though I hadnt been able to eat something for five days without vomiting including most of my fluids. Well I could go into greater detail but not for this form. I will be writing a longer formalLetter to President Biden and Director of the V.A in the near future about my experience and I can only hope someone reads it

Ive been using the Denver VA system since 2014 when I left the Army, it might just be my bad luck but every single interaction Ive had with the system (old and new) has been atrocious. Just trying to do the smallest thing like order a prescription becomes a nightmare process. One which you better have blocked out half a day for otherwise you very well may walk away with nothing. Calls frequently just ring with no answering machine to even pick up let alone a person, and if you do get a machine good luck actually having that call returned. Medication sent to the wrong address (3 times), after moves even though you changed your address and even went in to talk to the admin people to ensure the address change went through correctly. Appointments canceled on you at the last minute with no reason given. I received a letter in October (2016) that I had an appointment scheduled for September (2016). When I called and explained the letter was mailed after my appointment, I was told too bad I missed the appointment and it was my fault. There is much more, but this review is already too long. Bottom line if all of this has simply been bad luck on me, I hope yours is better. I have to use the VA (woe unto me), but if you have any other options run from this place as fast as you can.I felt I should add one edit to this. The Denver Vet Center is amazing.

The largest, cleanest medical facility I have ever seen. Lots of new doctors so the medical experience is absolutely horrible. After 11 months of treatment I have decided to discontinue my treatment and medications. I cannot warn anyone enough. If it is a medical emergency and you have no other alternatives I guess you will have to do what you need to. If you have any other alternatives go elsewhere. This facility proves that you can spend millions upon millions of dollars and still have the same old corrupt system. I spent 28 years of my life working in medicine, this system needs to be shut down. From your first appointment you will get that old familiar feeling that you are there for them. I have seen crystal meth addicts from the street get better treatment at Grady Memorial in downtown Atlanta than I see our veterans get at the VA. That is no joke!

Take the RTD, R Line. You wont have to drive around forever looking for parking. The SE Entrance is about a half block from the station - about a 2 minute walk, and I have a disability. The facility is (as expected) the nicest VA Ive ever seen. It should be for what it cost the taxpayers, though.... It is pretty easy to get to the business office, and most of the clinics, specialty care, and the ER are located very near each other. As for the medical care.... well, pretty typical VA. You have to be your own advocate - nobody there will do anything to help you. Always call or go online and verify appointments, perscriptions, etc, before trekking to the facility.

The doctor severed his main bile duct during the procedure then sent him home. And, when the emergency room sent him bak later that day, they pumped him with pain meds for 3 days and sent him back home without even checking for surgery complications. When he ended up back in emergency, the scan showed that his abdomen was FULL of bile basically digesting him from the inside out. So, a month and several surgeries and procedures later, as of this moment he has a partially collapsed lung, 3 stents/tubes hanging out of his body and a host of other complications. He has spent over a month i the hospital with no clear end in sight. This negligence is disgusting and criminal!

Went in to the ER for extreme back pain. Saw a dr. MELISSA GILLESPIE whose initial greeting to me was, What are we looking for today? Youre here for back pain? I thought this was an odd approach but explained my situation of chronic back pain and what I had done this time to try and alleviate the pain. Nothing had worked and I had finally decided to go to the ER which I have never done before but by this point it was the worst it had ever been and it was getting difficult to move or walk. When she started rattling off different narcotics to give me, it dawned on me that she may have thought I was a drug addict looking for a fix which would also explain the comment she made to me after offering me the narcotics, just dont stop breathing on me or dont stop breathing on anybody. I attempted to steer the treatment in a different direction by suggesting a cortisone shot, never had one but I heard they were spectacular for back pain, but she said they didnt give shots in the back at the ER but I could get a shot of steroids in the arm and left to order the meds. The nurse returned with the steroid shot and 10mg. of hydrocodone. I explained I didnt want the narcotics as they had not worked for me when they were prescribed once before for another injury. He gave me the steroid shot and a pharmacist came afterwards with more hydrocodone and a stool softener. I repeated that I didnt want the narcotics. dr. MELISSA GILBERT came back to the room and offered to give me a different narcotic of a lesser dose. I left the ER still in extreme pain with a bag of muscle relaxers that I explained had worked poorly in the past for me. I fail to follow the thought process of offering a less dosage narcotic after the patient says they didnt want the narcotic and would prefer a less drastic approach of steroidal treatment or how it is impossible for an ER to give shots in the back. I left feeling very disappointed in discovering how the VA has earned such a poor reputation for its inability to properly treat patients and absolutely disgraced that a physician pushes narcotics so strongly. dr. MELISSA GILLESPIE appears to be a judgmental, opiniated physician, disinterested in treating the patient, preferring to slap some narcotics together to bolster her perceived idea of what the patient wants rather than listen to the patients needs. And now they want to charge me for that doctors incompetence. I do not take exception with the VA facility, only with the doctor.

Arrived around 12:30. 1359 they finally get him back to a room. 1442 a doctor finally comes in to see him, only to tell him they cant find the order for his MRI. 1520 they finally have him fill out paperwork for the MRI. 1557 they finally take him back to get the MRI done. 1700 they have him wait until this time, finally ask what hes waiting for, and then tell him oops someone was supposed to tell you well call you with the results.Bathrooms are disgusting. Both toilets were overflowing with toilet paper and feces. And there was urine all over the floors.

If i could give. Negative stars i would. Arrived at ER around 945am. Was brought back for vitals around 11. Finally got called back 4 hours later to be sat in the hallway. I see lots of doctors and staff sitting around and on their personal phones. After finally asking a nurse to see the doctor because i was getting agitated she disappeared as well. Unsatisfactory care. I ended up leaving without being seen. Wish there was better options for veterans.

The new medical center is huge.. and fairly nice. ...but, yall are dwindling in the cleanliness area. Quick example: the latrines in all areas are disgusting. Looks like theres no dayshift. Dont fall into disarray please! People who visit you are not healthy. Dont make it worse for the healthy.

The vast majority of these people really do care, but the VA system hinders them so badly as usual. 3 months from an ER visit to see my Dr. Absolute trash

I understand that there are entire spectrum of personalities and entire spectrum of providers. And it’s not always easy to match a patient with a provider with a positive outcome.THAT being said I found providers at the Denver VAMC to be outstanding - Professional, caring, thoughtful and most important not judgmental. After years of harsh self - judgement it sure is comforting to have a provider not judge you, but rather work with you. With regard to the facility / parking / appointments / communication - I don’t have any negative experiences just people doing their job and it is what it is.

I brought my husband from Grand Junction to Denver for knee surgery. I can understand not allowing anyone into the hospital, but no restroom facilities available. This is ridiculous. There is not a restroom within 2.5 miles from the hospital!! I found this unacceptable

I have to say I am extremely disappointed with the mental health workers here. My experience has nothing to do with the rest of the hospital, just psychiatric department. Two and a half years ago I had tried to get my husband at the time to be placed in a long term situation as he was chronically mentally ill. I was told that they don’t do that. I told his social worker that I was concerned that he was chronically suicidal and was not safe. I was told that there wasn’t anything that they could do. He was sent home to live with me. I loved him very much and I was the sole breadwinner for us. I would go to work terrified of what I might find when I got home. One month after the VA released him to go home and claimed he was safe, he burned down our house while I was in it. Over the next year, I begged the court system and even had a victim advocate call his new social worker at the VA directly to plead my concern for my safety at this point as well as his. At his sentencing, I told the judge that he was a danger to himself. The psychiatric team knew what he was capable of at this point. They still continued to think that he would be okay on his own. He finally completed his suicide in October. If they would have actually listened to the one person (me) who was his caregiver to begin with, both of our lives would not have been destroyed. I doubt that this message will impact any of them, because at this point I believe that the people in the psychiatric department are there to collect a paycheck and benefits. I’m beyond disappointed with how this was handled.

Fantastic nurses, doctors and staff. I would say my biggest complaint is that it takes forever to get a call back to schedule appointments. I’ve currently been waiting about two weeks for a call back but I get there are tons of other vets as well.

First of all there is very bad parking for people that are suppose to have medical issues. The building appears to have been built and designed by Eastern European designers (before the wall came down). It has a lot of wasted open space that could have been utilized for actual workspace and a lot of things are broken or not working. The clinics have no label saying what they do. It just a random mountain peak name? There is generally poor direction to where you are suppose to be. They say go to building so and so but not which floor. Most of them dont even have phone numbers that they give out or even know. Now to scheduling. Does it really take 2 months to not return a call and then close out a order for np followup when you actually called 40+ times? If you need to schedule a CT, MRI or any lab good luck. It appears the person whom is suppose to schedule the appointments is at the counter checking people in all day. When are they suppose to call people and schedule a appointment. If you call in it just goes to voicemail. There should be a lot of people losing their jobs for the same incompetence that seems to follow the VA Medical Centers nationwide. Do yourself a favor and go to Golden or Fort Collins or pretty much anywhere else if you have serious medical issues. Youll end up dead waiting around for help if you go to the new center. Maybe that is the point. It may be more cost effective if they let you die?

The VA center itself is amazing. Yes, it is large but considering all it does, its actually a decent size.Yes, there are two parking lots for visitors: a north one and a south one (which is the smaller of the two) and yes, they arent lebeled very well from the street for people coming to the hospital. The building itself is designed as one major throoughfare with wings off of it. Each wing is then a different type of service or department. For example, you have one for Primary Care, one for Pharmacy and Imaging and so forth. The people who work there are very nice. I have yet to have someone who wouldnt answer a question or give me top-knotch service. I will admit that sometimes its frustrating to see someone and appointments can be scheduled pretty far out for general care, but just about everything else has been handled quickly. There are art installations inside the building as well as some private shopping kiosks for those of you you absolutely need whatever it is theyre selling that day.All-in-all, its not a bad place and one could do much worse with heathcare anywhere in the USA.

We need to quit making new veterans. Remember, there are millions of people that have no health insurance . Have any of you thought about the fact that the VA handled a staggering case load and is chronically under staffed? If you had to deal with sick people every day you might be grouchy once in awhile . Here is the way to deal with a VA employee who is having*one of those days*. And I know that this is hard but I have found that if you can make em laugh that gets results. And after all fellow veterans, we all know what its like to work for the federal government. You know the people who made ordering paper clips into a day long job with the possibility instead of paper clips you ordered anti aircraft gun.

Used both the emergency and had 5 surgeries. Wonderful care. Much better than the private practice doctors I used to see. Ive been in the VA Health Care system for over 10 years. Specialists only take a week to 10 days to see - if emergency, immediately. Private care takes several months. Specialists typically use a team approach - costs the VA more, but really great to get multiple opinions. This is also a teaching hospital for the University of Colorado Medical School. Treated with respect and with understanding concerning the Veterans war experience.

My Vietnam veteran father passed away after a battle with lung cancer on March 12 at this location. I am very thrilled that he was able to pass away in a dignified manner, in his own room at the new VA hospital, with staff that had been overseeing him for years. Thank you to the staff for everything you did not only for my father but for my sister and I as we said our final goodbyes.

The staff are very friendly and helpful. Unfortunately its the waiting time that is the problem. Ive been going on for two hours of a wait now just to be updated in the system. Ive been to two other VA centers before this and never experienced this issue. Before this, Ive called in twice and left a voicemail to the register office and never got a call back. It is very unreasonable to think that this is an effective way of handling a patients time.

My son was admitted and diagnosed a mere 6 days ago with Stage 3 testicular cancer. His already had several large tumors in his thoracic lymph nodes and his lungs riddled with very large tumors. His condition declined rapidly and he has had a very rough time. The physicians and nurses and every staff person with whom we have interacted have done nothing but treat him efficiently, tenderly, effectively, and with complete respect. His whole team (whatever countless number we have totaled thus far) has taken time with him, his father, and me to answer every question, reassure us of each step, and make us feel like my son is number one. Thank you to the urology team, internal medicine team, oncology team, pulmonary team, radiology team, respiratory team, and EVERY nurse!!!

They have given me good care. With that said, I have a bad knee, so the north garage is just to far to walk to my appointments. It makes me mad that at shift change. There are employees (quite a lot of them) brazen enough to walk in or out to the East parking garage w/ their badges in plain site. They don’t even take the effort to cover them up. If they are a veteran/employee or not. Employees should park in the Employee parking lot. As far as I can see they are sticking up their nose to the vet , and the message is we are better than you. No discussion needed

Had to go to the ER today due to pain. Show up to the hospital for significant pain in my knees. Sit in waiting room for a small amount of time 30 minutes no big deal. Got my vitals taken care of then had a call in for X-rays. Was forgot about, after over an hour of waiting I finally walked up and asked when I was gonna get the xrays taken. They looked confused and asked me if I had been back yet. I then after another 45 minute to an hour finally get my xrays done. My doctors comes in says here is a pill I think your fine that he still wanted to look at xrays. Nurse comes into room gives me pills and I wait in the room for an hour an half two nurses come in to clean the room and asked what I was still doing in there. Then the doc comes back says your fine and you can go. I was Forgot about twice! This is the most back a$$ place I have ever been too.
