I have loved my experiences with this practice dating back to 2011. I have had my last four pregnancies, one miscarriage and routine care with this practice and could not be more happy with the staff and level of care I have received. I always left smiling and with confidence. My appointments were very thorough and never rushed. Any and all questions I had were answered and I most importantly I had a sense of empowerment as I was able to also make choices concerning my health care. The sense community is next level. Never had an issue with scheduling or billing and was always made aware of what was going to happen at each appointment before my visit. If I could give more stars than just five - without a doubt I would give ten!

I had an overall great experience at InTown midwifery. I know I wanted to to have a natural birth and this was a place who’s overall birthing beliefs aligned with mine.5 stars for my birth- Ashley was the midwife who delivered my baby but she is no longer at this practice. I had a natural delivery w no medication and no tearing. My entire birth was AMAZING! I couldn’t have asked for a better experience.5 stars for routine checkups- every checkup was done by one of the midwifes. They were all great and asked me how I was truly doing. They always answered my questions and encourage me to ask them about anything that may be running through my mind about the pregnancy.1 star for follow ups - this is where they rrreaally slacked and bad. Anytime I had testing done whether for glucose test or any other vitals they would never call me to tell me the results. Sometimes they would even forget to mention how I did even at the next appointment.Overall I would still recommend them!

I absolutely love this practice ! I’m only 21 weeks but my experience so far has been much better than my first pregnancy. It feels like a family versus visiting the doctor. Ashley (midwife) is amazing. She’s sweet, attentive, personable and caring. You will not regret choosing them.

My experience with intown midwifery was nothing short of amazing. I transferred at 32 weeks knowing that I wanted something different than my previous birth experience. Ashlee, the midwife, supported me every step of the way from my prenatal appointments to supporting my wishes throughout my labor and delivery (and even giving me courage at the end of my unmedicated birth that I could do it!) The level of care I received was unprecedented and I always felt heard. I highly recommend intown midwifery for anyone looking for excellent midwifery care!

My wife and I have used Intown Midwifery for the pregnancy of two of our children, and I cant offer enough praise for these ladies! They were very attentive to my wife and all of her concerns. They communicated with her directly and even offered her their cell numbers in a couple of instances to make sure her questions were answered promptly. As for me they treated me with respect and as more than just a spectator. They welcomed our family and took every step necessary ensure that both my wife and children had the best care possible.

Love, Love, Love Intown. The only con is the hospital, which is super old but still totally worth it. These people care, held my hand through a rough pregnancy, rallied around me after a miscarriage and celebrated with new pregnancy news. Will tell you the truth in a caring way which is not lost on me because they have seen my case and people like me all of the time but it is still individualized. Will always love them!

My husband and I came across Intown in 2018 and delivered our 1st child under their care. Fast forward to today, weve moved to a different city, had another child and now pregnant again, and we have scoured the lands searching and interviewing with different practices for two years!!! and still, my heart thinks back so fondly remembering my time with Intown midwifery. One of the midwifes in particular (who not only delivered our first child but was the main one we ended up receiving prenatal care from for the duration of the pregnancy) Ms. JANET of Intown Midwifery provided the best care I had received and two children later have still yet found anywhere else. She is very great and experienced at what she does. Cannot thank her enough even though our time was short I come back to review again the place that introduced me to this motherhood journey in a way that has been unparalleled since. Thank you Intown!!!

The midwives are the absolute best!! I have no regrets of transferring care. Lorie Bounds was amazing and was the main factor in me being able to achieve my dream of a non medicated water birth. She helped me to find the strength to do what I thought was impossible. She was so calm and reassuring. I will recommend her to anyone! She was such a great support for me and I am forever grateful for such an amazing experience.

Several calls during business hours, some calls go unanswered and one manages to go to voicemail. Four weeks plus later and still waiting for a call back. In my opinion, not returning calls is bad for business. Margaret S. and Anjili H. (who supposedly is very smart and has several degrees) should hire a business savvy person to run the practice’s daily operations. They should realize that they are not good business owners (no matter their accumulation of degrees).

After going to three practices in town, I can say with confidence that this one is the best. They TRULY care about their patients. They are compassionate, and extremely knowledgeable. They took more time to listen, diagnose, and explain my options than any other practice I went to. From the midwives to the front desk staff, to the billing department- everyone at In Town is incredible! Thank you for your commitment & dedication to pregnant women & their growing families!

It is great to have water birth available for those who chose to do so as well. I had an amazing birth with Intown Midwifery. The midwives are great. I was two weeks late, and baby wasn’t coming out, but I really wanted an unmedicated water birth. Janet and Michelle made sure I still got the birth I wanted. I definitely wouldn’t have gotten that anywhere else in Atlanta. I think this is the only place you can get the personal care of midwives, but in a hospital setting in case anything goes wrong. I felt safe and comfortable the whole time. They were easy to get in touch with for me. And towards the end they just communicated with me by personal cell phone. I felt very cared for and listened to. They really know what they’re doing here!Only con is that they’re only open MWTh and I guess they overbook patients sometimes so I had to wait for over an hour in the rooms on a few occasions (for regular appointments) before the midwife came in. But when it came to my due date appointments there were never any issues. So, it’s only a minor thing for me.TL;DR: Amazing midwives. You get the personal care of a midwife, but in a hospital setting.. Wait times for the routine checkups can be high.

After deciding on a natural water birth with my first child in 2013, I researched all my options and stumbled across Intown Midwifery. They are very close to my house and everything I read about their partnership with AMC was positive. I was a patient with Intown for my entire pregnancy and it was just as wonderful as Id hoped it would be, despite my labor going a bit differently than Id planned. (Thats motherhood, right?)I did see a different midwife at nearly every appointment, but only one ever made me feel less than awesome (this, I think, was just a difference in personalities) and all of them were up-to-date with my records and history before ever stepping foot in the room. From start to finish, Intown was professional, compassionate, kind, nurturing, and I cannot recommend them enough. Deena, who was present for most of my labor and talked me through a difficult decision-making process, was outstanding. And Lindley, who delivered my daughter, was absolutely top-notch. A family member in the room actually said she was like a cheerleader and I couldnt agree more.I am still with Intown for annual exams and will be for future pregnancies, and I always leave their office feeling so grateful for their knowledge, experience, and care.

I went to Intown midwifery up to 26 weeks. Theyre kind people, gentle, knowledgeable, but also VERY disorganized. To the point of putting people in harms way.Their phones went down for two+ weeks and I had very bad morning sickness at the time and needed advice and some nausea medication. I was in bed puking non stop, but I couldnt get any support. It was also not unusual for them to loose my test results, or had me taking antibiotics for a test I got negative on. Only to realize after the fact. The blood results I got were interpreted differently by every midwife.Things were always getting mixed up while I was there. It felt chaotic. My last appointment the nurses taking my urine sample told me I was suddenly getting my glucose test that day. Which no one had mentioned beforehand. I didnt have the extra time planned for that appointment that day. Then the midwife I saw was completely confused as to why they said that. Simple miscommunication between people, but it happened all the time. It didnt give me much confidence more miscommunications would happen the day I had my baby. Also Atlanta medical leaves much to be desired. Every single time I went in for an appointment I was pan handled inside the building! I live in Atlanta and am use to being approached on the street, but in the hospital was really frustrating. I just wanted to go to my appointment. The hospital seemed old as well. I decided to go to another midwifery and deliver at dekalb medical and Im so glad I did.

The actual practitioners and care are good (4 STARS) but the administration is amateurish, and dropped the ball on a few occasions (0 STARS)See my detailed story below. The midwives are good, Dr. James is really wonderful and professional, the nursing staff at AMC is remarkably friendly and helpful, and the overall ideology really appealed to us. If that were the end of it, Id give a hearty recommendation to everyone. However, we had a number of issues with miscommunication, which could have had significant consequences. As a result, I would not want to trust them with another pregnancy, and would urge others to avoid this operation. These are the three mishaps that we experienced at the end of our pregnancy:1. After our baby was found to be breech at about 37 weeks, we had them arrange for a version (a non-invasive procedure where the doctor turns the fetus with manual pressure - its odds of success are better earlier, when there is more room for baby to move). We called a few times that week, and did not receive a response. The following Monday, we called and got through, only to find that the documents supposedly faxed to the specialist never got there. We did manage to schedule a procedure, but if we werent diligently calling and calling, it could have taken significantly longer to actually schedule the procedure. As first-timers in this process, we shouldnt have to be taking charge and nagging to get appropriate care.2. After the version failed, we were considering a possible vaginal breech birth. Intown boasts a senior midwife who is expert in this. Unfortunately, after a number of calls, we never heard back from her - no call, no message, nothing. This does not inspire confidence going into a stressful birth situation, and was part of the reason we decided to go for a c-section. Thats a shameful failure for a midwife practice that purports to strongly advocate natural birth.3. We had scheduled a post-op visit for this afternoon. Just to be sure, I called to confirm as we were leaving the house (we called earlier, but they were out to lunch - note: dont plan on having anyone available mid-afternoon or any time on a Friday). No appointment on the books for us. Turns out someone in the office had cancelled it for no apparent reason, and never informed us. Im glad we called to avoid the major hassle of showing up and them not being able to see us... but once again, its only through our diligent nagging that we avoided yet another issue.Fortunately, none of their bungling has had serious consequences - we have a happy, healthy baby and can move on with our lives and forget about this negative experience. If we have another child we will go elsewhere.

My wife and I have been looking for a midwifery clinic for our pregnancy and she really wanted to check out Intown. However so far our whole experience with them has not been good. They never answer your calls when you call them. They are extremely hard to get ahold of. And then when you do call them you have to leave a message and they will sometime return your call when it is convient for them. So we decided to drive to Atlanta to go in person to their office. Online said they have a “lunch break” from 12:30-1:30. So we show up a little before noon to see them. And sure enough, all lights are off and the front door is locked. We decided we will not consider this clinic any longer due to their irresponsible communication, their inadequate service and their availability.

If I could give zero stars for this review, I would. I wasnt impressed with Intown Midwifery from the beginning of my pregnancy. They routinely didnt call me back with test results and when I called the office to ask about my results, it took three phone calls with messages left to finally get someone on the phone to give me results. If you use this practice, be prepared to feel like youre hassling the midwives and staff to give you the service youre paying for.As for my birth - the ONLY positive is that we had a healthy little girl, but it was no thanks to either of my midwives. My first midwife left at the end of her shift, even though she told me that she would stay until Id had my epidural and there was already a C Section being discussed. She left before Margaret bothered to arrive - leaving me without any sort of support or backup. (Other than that, I felt she supported me while she was there and gave me useful suggestions for positions etc.) The hospital staff was trying to wait on Margaret to arrive, but I was told that even though theyd spoken with her an hour before and were told that she was on her way, they couldnt reach her any longer.By the time Margaret got there, the on call OB was going over our option for a C Section. Margaret seemed annoyed. NEVER spoke to me. Didnt say hello, ask how I was doing or if I had any questions. She never asked my permission to flip me over, put the catheter in or check for dilation. She was extremely rough and had no bedside manner whatsoever. I felt violated and am still surprised with how unprofessional she was. She treated me like I was an inanimate object - not a person.I also did not receive ANY postpartum care. No one came to the hospital room after the birth (which according to Dr James is routine). No one told me when to schedule postpartum visits - I had to call the office to schedule and therefore didnt have a 2 week postpartum visit as I was supposed to.I absolutely feel like I was charged and am paying for services that I either didnt receive or was not satisfied with at all. The very reason I chose a midwifery was because I didnt want to be treated like another number in the pregnancy factory - and thats exactly what I got with Intown Midwifery.Again, let me reiterate just how terrible Margaret was. When Id met her previously at an appointment I liked her - but she was a totally different, callous person when she arrived in the hospital room and was irritated that we were considering a C section. My daughter is 6 months old now and every time I think of our labor and delivery experience, the midwives (specifically Margaret) stand out, marring the memory. Too bad I cant get that time, experience and my money back. I wish she knew or cared how her attitude tainted this special time.

Prenatal Care: Their prenatal care is standard and high quality. The main difference is the attention given to emotional support during pregnancy and the group discussion classes which were a highlight of my pregnancy. With these midwives, I could actually talk and talk and talk and they listened, and listened some more. Very refreshing! Great conversations, just what a woman needs during this special time. I had an easy pregnancy with no complications. I was able to consumer jelly beans instead of the nasty glucose drink for my glucose test. I got to perform my own Group B strep test. I also was able to track my blood pressure at home since I had white coat issues of it spiking only at medical offices. Ironically, since my first visit at Intown Midwifery, my blood pressure was actually normal -- thats how comfortable I felt and what a great environment it is, thats never happened to me before. Kristie doing patient intake was welcoming and informative, Meg the triage nurse was wonderful to work with by email to answer all my random questions or concerns. The front desk staff was courteous, lab techs were a highlight of each visit and of course the midwives were excellent. I didnt care who I saw, I enjoyed them all and felt cared for to the highest degree.Labor & Delivery: I had searched high and low for a practice that would truly support unmedicated natural childbirth. I also wanted a water birth. And I wanted a VBAC! Intown Midwifery told me I could have it all and I did! Their partnership with Atlanta Medical Center is paramount to accomplishing these things. They kept me calm, confident and feeling in control during a situation that was as out of my hands as it could be. They were patient when I called several times during the false labor and early labor. They expertly recommended I underwent therapeutic rest in order to sleep during my 57hr labor so that I would have enough energy once active labor began since I had such a SLOW labor. It gave me the strength I needed. They were brilliant in the timing of where I labored -- going to the shower around 6cm, resting in the bed around 7cm then the tub around 8cm for transition until time to push. My minor first degree tear was stitched up and Ive healed great. We left the hospital 24hrs later and I was walking on air. Such a positive, empowering experience compared to that of my first birth which took place in a typical hospital by a typical OB 5yrs prior.THANK YOU ALL!

I would like to share with the world how beautiful our experience was (From start to finish) w/Intown Midwifery!! I didnt know where to start when finding out at 37 that I was pregnant w/my first child. I knew that I wanted to go natural and that I wanted to be in a supportive environment without having to constantly defend my beliefs about how it was important for me to birth. I found all of that and more w/Intown. From my first visit, I fell in love w/Janet (CNM) and I felt a genuine connection and care from the staff and all the midwives and Dr. James. There are a lot of new and crazy things that happen during pregnancy on a physical and spiritual level and I always felt that I was being gently guided through these processes w/Intown. I highly recommend that you check out their open house...we didnt do this until 1month bf I gave birth, but wish we would have done it sooner. We were so impressed w/what we learned about the midwives and the tour of the hospital eased our worried little minds about the big day. What I valued the most from my total experience at Intown was the balance of the medical knowledge that everyone had as well as the human touch that each and every person who is a part of the team shared w/us. That is a rare find! Our BIG DAY was smooth and blissed out...We could not have contained another drop of goodness that day...in large part due to Janet & Margaret and the staff at AMC. Viva Intown Midwifery and all those angels there!

The midwives are really passionate about their job and are very kind and understanding and patient . That was the best part for me. They also encourage you to listen to your own body and never push you for a C-Sec unnecessarily. They give you loads of options and freedom on how you want to deliver your child and support it a 100 percent. They also support alternative medicines and have provided me with great suggestions of home remedies and homoeopathy to overcome some issues I faced during pregnancy. They do not resort to medications straight away and think about safety of your baby and yourself. Their group discussion classes were amazing too!Having said that, things are a bit disorganized. My insurance got mixed up and bills were sent to a lab that I clearly mentioned it was not covered in my network. They have sorted out the issue as I informed them but I didnt expect them to make the same mistake twice. It is also a pain to reach their nurses station to ask a quick question as you always have to leave a voice mail. The good thing is the nurse calls you back the same day and is very helpful and patient in answering all your questions. They were not open on Fridays to make any phone calls and ask questions. If I had an issue I wanted to discuss with the nurse on Friday, I had to wait till Monday to give her a call.Overall, I had wonderful support from all the midwives during my prenantal visits, labor and delivery and postnatal check ups. I would highly recommend them to anyone who wants to get pregnant or is expecting soon :) They care for you during your showers during labor pains, suggesting different labor positions, they encourage you to stay hydrated and eat during labor. They are truly one of the best support and practice one will need during such an important phase in your life!

I wasn’t listened too. I saw a different practitioner each time. I told them I had rapid labor. I prepared for a water birth. My tub was not blown up. Nothing was ready. I ended up having my sweet girl on the bathroom floor on all fours. My husband delivered our baby.Afterwards - I was DR ... I had a huge space in my abdomen - I was told physiotherapy and was told not to lift anything heavy ..... I have a new born and a one year old and a double stroller and my husband is deployed. Don’t lift anything heavy? I asked for referrals and they still did not help me.Went to a plastic surgeon for help and she assured me no belly band or exercise would join my umbilical hernia AND Diastis Recti.I’m thankful for my baby girl, But I wouldn’t recommend this place unless you happen to know someone and have a great relationship with someone who will look after you.It was a traumatic birth that I wouldn’t wish on anyone.

I was sent by another facility to Intown Midwifery for two ultrasound appointments. The first experience was horrible and a HUGE (cannot stress this enough) step down from my previous experiences with Dr Bootstaylor at See Baby during my previous pregnancy. My appointment was in the first time slot of the day, and the wait was pretty long considering that my appointment was at 8:30am. There appeared to be a large gap in communication among the staff about who I was, which room I was in, why I was in the room I was in, and the ultrasound tech spoke so softly that I could barely make out a word she said. My family of 4 waited for over 35 minutes to hear from a Dr after the ultrasound was completed. During this time, not one single person mentioned that we were waiting to speak to the Dr via the television, and we had no idea why a camera in the room was even necessary. We were just continually told to keep waiting, and the Dr would be with us any minute. Meanwhile, my husband, 5 year old daughter, and I all had to use the restroom really badly at this point and were all told to just wait. At one point, a midwife came in confused about who I was (thinking I was a different client) and why I was in the room I was in. She stated that the room I was in was normally used for something else. We both were really confused, because I was wondering why a midwife was looking for another client who likely came in after me when Id been waiting so long already. Then she proceded to tell me I can have my baby delivered there if I want, because they have a staff of midwives... Yeah no thanks. When the appointment was finally over, we realized that the bathroom was conveniently right across the hall. Thanks a lot for that!A week or so later, I call Intown Midwifery with a billing question, and a woman who sounds very annoyed tells me I am a Telehealth client, and they only rent a room in their office so call Telehealth. This is the first time anyone has ever let me know I am not an Intown Midwifery client. I dont know why they assume everyone automatically knows this.So I get an email about a survey for Intown Midwifery and honestly give my feedback. Well weeks later, we reluctantly go back for my 20 week ultrasound, and people appeared much nicer this time around. But...they were out of paper and couldnt print any ultrasound pics of my beautiful baby so I had to take pics with my phone. I am very grateful to have been allowed to take pics with my phone, but seriously, for the high cost of the ultrasound, pics should be provided. Then it all became more apparent why I had been having problems with this facility while I was waiting to see the Dr again. I was handed a piece of paper with a number written on it, and I was told Intown Midwifery wouldnt even accept my co-payment and for me to use my own cell phone and pay it with Telehealth while I was waiting. It felt like they were just washing their hands of Telehealth clients, and I seriously felt like I was in the middle of some office feud between these two businesses. So I called the number and a man I spoke with through Telehealth said he seemed unsure as to why they were refusing to accept Telehealth co-pays all of a sudden.A few more weeks go by, and Telehealth says I need to go back for another ultrasound. I refused. I voiced my complaints and said Ill go elsewhere. The man with Telehealth sounded like hed heard this more than a few times and said he understood and that many have complained for the same reasons.

I cannot agree more with Amy Preasts post. Same thing happened to me in 2004. I, too, ended up with an EMERGENCY C-SECTION after 36 hours of FAILED MIDWIFERY SERVICE!!!! Because I was extremely healthy and strong I was able to withstand 36 hours of bad memories all thanks to Margaret Strickhousers inept midwifery. All I remember is her sticking her BIG FISTS into my body 22x Times!!!! While I am not sure if this is an acceptable Midwifery practice, I too ended up with an emergency c-section because Margaret gave me almost zilch instruction and/or support during the last 10 hours. She didnt even bother showing up during the first 24 hours, just like what the other poster stated about her experience. What Margaret does is to call the hospital nurses to keep abreast and shows up only if youre in x % of contractions. She has a threshold on when she will show up. Even when she does show up, its totally useless because shes not there to give you 1) emotional support which midwifery is known to be there for; 2) labor information - push, breathing, etc. which midwifery is supposed to provide from the get go; 3) alternative positioning, 4) utilizing the extra resources that I had on my team (my husband, my friend, another junior midwife) to help guide me/support me/etc.I, too, dont know why the heck I had to pay her a dime except for the gas in her car. She provided 0 support for me while I am laying there with my dignity, privacy, and trust all exposed.I cried endlessly after the operation because the birthing process was so botched, so heartless, and completely opposite of what Margaret promised me it would be to use her as a midwife. For those reading this review who are still on the fence of using a midwife, do careful research before you jump in. Sometimes, not everything you read in the midwife books is true. I feel like I was blinded by the book and/or what Margaret said. Shes very good at doing PRs and Marketing for her services which are nothing but false advertising.Like the other poster, I delivered my one and only beautiful child via Emergency C-Section and that was the only positive part of my delivery experience which was my first and last.

I loved their service! The staff is all very friendly and I felt comfortable with all the midwives I saw. I once went in several hours early because I got the times mixed up for two different appointments, and they saw me anyway. The group discussions were alright; they were more like lectures, since there wasnt terribly much opportunity given for class participation. The discussions were general overviews on prenatal health/nutrition/exercise, labor and delivery, and postpartum. There also wasnt much in the way of new information I hadnt already heard or read, even as a first-time mom. Still worth going to, though.I would give the practice 5 stars if it werent for their unfortunate partnership with AMC. I *hated* my experience with that hospital for delivery.- Being (over)charged while I was laboring (husband was too worried about me to refuse at the time. Since they had whisked him away, all he could think was to get back to me ASAP, not about how insurance works)- Bitter cold rooms (I was shivering so badly while laboring, I couldnt relax and open up = longer delivery)- Understaffed (so no water birth and no refund for water birth certificate)- Making me sign things while in bed at ~2 or 3am after a 10pm delivery (I vaguely remember the nurse coming in and thats about it. Thank goodness it was just some notice about not dropping/shaking babies and not something important! Husband didnt even know she had come in.)- Slow response time (pain meds delivered over an hour after requesting them)- Lack of communication among nurses (we were charged for an extra day we had said we didnt want to stay for and had been assured wed be out in time. Discharging nurse had no idea we were trying to leave)- 3+ months to refund the $1000 they had overcharged (still working that out, thanks)On that last note, Intown is aware that this is a problem. When I mentioned it at my postnatal checkup, they said they were making a list of people that had been overcharged and that it often takes months to get the refund. Why dont you just tell people that before they go into labor so they dont hand over their credit cards? For the practices sake, I hope they are able to raise the funds for the birthing center.
