After deciding to place my mom in this community, I have been tremendously overwhelmed with how attentive and caring everyone is on a daily basis. My mom has been here for a little over 7 months now and time and again, I am assured that all of her extensive needs are taken care of. There is a new management team that really strives to make this the best community in Central Florida. Would recommend over and over!!

Brookdale is a wonderful place and is caring for both of my brother and sister in law. They take care of all their needs. The staff is very attentive and professional.

If you have a loved one or you need a place to stay where you can attend to all your own needs then this might be a good place for you to stay. However if you have a loved one who needs assistance with almost every thing, then this is not the place for you to live.My loved one was here for roughly ten days and went down hill. They lost weight and were not getting any exercise. The staff never tried to get them out of bed or seemed to be around when they were needed. In fact one evening we found our loved one trying to get our of bed and had been pushing the button for assistance. No one came even after we had waited for 30 minutes. After we assisted with the bathroom we went looking and found only one person watching television. When asked why they didnt come they said it wasnt their responsibility. We never found the other person who was working the floor and we believe they actually left the complex.Again, depending on your needs, this might be a wonderful place to stay, but if you need full care, 24/7, I can not recommend this place.

Do NOT ever place your loved one at this location, if you care about them!!! Brookdale is corporate in every sense of the word, right down to their constant lack of unskilled/unqualified/apathetic/alleged criminal staff (allegedly their Head Nurse/Wellness Director was stealing meds from patients who had either left their facility or had died there -- I have this persons name and dealt with her personally and this is true!), their a la carte/charge for every little thing that you possible can methodology of charging patients (EVERYTHING is extra!), their revolving door of management (working on their THIRD Executive Director in less than two years), horrible food, lack of care to the patients (only worry about wheelchair-bound patients getting a bath, otherwise you have to chase someone down to give your loved one a shower/bath once per week), not to mention the corporate mentality if you try to reach someone at the corporate level, which I have done. Stephanie Tutson (or something like that) was the last Executive Director that I dealt with back in May 2018 when I removed my 90-year-old mother (who is actually in good physical condition for her age, and they still had trouble caring for her which was more like advanced babysitting) in favor of Wellsprings Residence in Apopka, Florida. WELLSPRINGS RESIDENCE in the best!!!! A very small facility of about 20 beds, your loved one will get the proper care here. Unfortunately, my mothers mental condition did not allow her to make the adjustment to the new place, so she is back home with us. No reflection on Wellsprings Residence whatsoever. Anyway, the Head Nurse at Brookdale/Wekiwa (who was fired for allegedly stealing meds) refused to evaluate my mother for toileting assistance (one of the necessary evaluations if you want the long-term care insurance to keep paying), so I got the Regional Director Chad Carnes involved. He actually helped by making her perform the evaluation so my mother could stay at Brookdale. After that, when I left him (many) messages for help because Brookdale was severely neglecting my mother (they let her fall off of the toilet more than once, even after she pulled the emg cord for help AND WE WERE PAYING FOR THIS ADDITIONAL ASSISTANCE), how the food was so horrible, etc., Chad never contacted me back. Brookdale has a corporate system whereby you have to call in to a toll-free number and tell someone who makes notes about the alleged problems/concerns and then they assign it a Report Number, but you have to keep calling back and calling back to push that along. The first time that I got help from Chad was only a coincidence because he happened to be in the area checking other facilities at the time. Lucky me. If you make any complaints or trouble on behalf of your loved one, Stephanie Tutson (last Executive Director that I dealt with, but who knows if she has left by now) will certainly sit down and have a meeting with the family. However, all she can say (like a bloody parrot) is Its a new day at Brookdale/Wekiwa, as if to acknowledge that improvement was indeed needed. They have NO security cameras at this location (not even at the main door), so when I asked Stephanie about this, she actually said that it isnt their policy to put up any cameras, but you can put one in your loved ones room, if you wish, at your expense. What the Hell???? Also, I have a Durable Power of Attorney for my mom that names me as Agent/Attorney-in-Fact, but Stephanie decided that she didnt have to acknowledge that legal document because she wanted to be nasty to me because I was complaining about the facility (still). Why these people cannot get someone to do minor cooking and give these poor, old people something decent to eat sometimes is beyond me. By the time my mother left Brookdale/Wekiwa, we were paying over $4,000.00 per month for services that werent even being rendered monthly. Brookdale corporate should be run out of business at the very least, so I advise you to think twice before you leave someone in ANY Brookdale facility.
