Review №1

Dr. Hammer was amazing! I called and they got me in the next day. My son was born a few weeks early and his latch was shallow, so he wasn’t getting enough milk. He was also sooo sleepy so he didn’t stay awake while nursing. I went once a week for about a month and they gave me a written plan each time. He was losing weight so I had to nurse him for 20 minutes, then pump and give him some in a bottle. This helped get his weight up. Each visit, things got better and after a few weeks he didn’t need the bottle of pumped breastmilk, and he was exclusively breastfeeding! Also, she prescribed a nipple cream for me when I first went in and that helped a lot. I had a great experience there and recommend Dr. Hammer to every new mom I talk to! A bonus is that each visit was covered by my insurance.

Highly recommend Dr. Hammer. She provided the most helpful and encouraging lactation support I received during my breastfeeding journey.

Review №4

In October I was referred to Dr. Hammer for a possible tongue tie evaluation for my 6 day old newborn . We were experiencing some slight pain while breastfeeding and as most babies do, he had lost a little weight (a matter of a few ounces) from birth and as a pre-caution was being monitored by our pediatrician. He was quickly gaining to our relief. During his newborn evaluation our Ped saw what she thought to be a slight tongue tie, and we thought it best to get ahead of any potential problems and have him seen for this by Dr. Hammer. Please keep in mind that we were referred to her confirm or deny a tongue tie NOT FOR WEIGHT LOSS OR NURSING concerns and NOT for a lactation consult. Unfortunately, my experience with this doctor was anything but positive.  As an IBCLC, Dr. Hammer should be very sensitive and understanding of issues that mothers and newborns may encounter and even more empathetic to the worry caused by possible issues like a tongue that may require snipping the lingual frenulum – especially for those who have not previously faced this.  I’m a Mom of three, but this was completely new to me.  Dr. Hammer seemingly went out of her way to question the care I was providing for my child.  Asking if I had supplemented to make up for the weight loss.  Any IBCLC will tell you that isn’t always necessary or encouraged if your desired way of feeding is to exclusively breastfeed.  She continued to demean the situation by telling me that sometimes experienced mom’s forget that their babies are newborns and they become too lax by not making sure they have a good latch or properly supporting their head. I’m literally in her office for the specific reason of ensuring the best possible care for my baby......Why would you insinuate that I’m a lax mother if I’m right here asking for help?We worked through a rather rough nursing session where she continuously unlatched him and frustrated him, while reminding me that she could work with me remembering he’s a newborn. She passed judgment and made continuous passive aggressive comments about how he was nursing and basically trying to point out all she thought I was doing wrong. This again was not a typical nursing session: he was cold in a diaper as they had me keep him, he had to have his diaper changed twice and her unlatching him multiple times didn’t help at all. I received a “ya he got nothing from you” comment . This was said while I was literally wiping milk from his little chin. Dr. Hammer, it appears that experienced doctors become lax when it comes to bedside manners for both new and experienced Mom’s.  We are coming to you with our most precious newborns because we aren’t in fact, lax.  We are exhausted, caring, and worried Mama’s who need the expertise we’ve been assured you can offer, not the passive aggressive comments that make us feel less than we are.  Remember that if we didn’t need help, you wouldn’t have a job.  You’ve forgotten how to be compassionate and empathic to those who come to you.  If this review does nothing more than save another from this experience by directing them elsewhere, I hope it’s a gentle reminder to you to remember why you got in this field in the first place – to help, not hurt.
