This hospital is at capacity! Do not come here unless you are prepared to leave after whatever emergent situation brought you here has been taken care of enough to seek care elsewhere. If you do stay? You’ll be put in overflow: a no-man’s-land and if it’s the one next to diagnostic radiology? The doctors forget about you, give you subpar care while the nurses and support staff are running around picking up all the slack.Seriously, do not come to University Hospital until they get themselves sorted.

Seriously go to ANY other hospital! I came in on August 31, 2020 because I was fainting constantly, had high cortisol levels, and was carrying around a bucket for a week (could not eat). They saw every single other patient in the room before me and more. It was not until I literally passed out unconscious in the waiting room did they bump me up one priority level. When they discharged me, they told me that they didnt find anything abnormal. However, one week later, they must have found someone who knows how to read a EKG and didnt find anything became you have a partial branch block. So lets recap....Someone with a heart problem was never even screened in the ER. They flat out faint to get moved up one priority level. Then you discharge the person without telling them that there is something going on with their heart. This is not healthcare. This should be called Dont care. If you value your life, I beg of you, please go elsewhere!

ER wait times are usually long but the wait time tonight is the longest Ive ever had to wait for testing & a room. The staff and nurses have been wonderful, its just the lack of rooms and staff that is causing the patients to suffer and wait 8+ hours to see a doctor or get a room.

You would expect higher quality of patient care for such an esteemed hospital you should be absolutely ashamed of yourself. And having patients in the waiting room with IVs is absolutely appalling.. My daughter was in admitted to picu and I was having a horrible trigeminal neuralgia flare up and was in so much pain so the security guard escorted me down to emergency so that way hopefully I could get some relief and be able to focus on my daughter. I waited from 12 am-4am and wasn’t even seen. You’d think that being in pain and coming to an ER you’d be seen in a somewhat timely manner, especially at that time of night. When asked if they knew when I’d be seen they said “I don’t know probably not for a couple more hours”. Wouldn’t come here voluntarily unless it was for Motts children’s.

A nurse with fake blue eyes said to me, “You don’t sound like you are from around here.” I’m from Ann Arbor, so I asked her what she meant and she wouldn’t answer. I’m just going to assume she meant something discriminatory.I left AMA because for some reason they couldn’t spell my name or figure out what year I was born despite having my ID and the bottle of medicine I was on - you know, both of which have that information - in their hands. They also couldn’t find my medical records from a hospital they are partnered with. The last straw was they wanted me - the patient - to call a number to ask for my medical records. Why am I doing your job for you? You call and I’ll give permission. Also, what do you do if a person admitted to the ER is unconscious? Poke them with a stick and don’t treat them?I guess it’s rude when you call people incompetent who clearly are.

I have been to the ER at U of M many times over the last 3 years for Leukemia related issues. Tuesday I went in per my BMT team due to a fall I had earlier in the day. I am not able to get my vaccine for COVID yet and I am very immunocompromised. I have never seen the ER as full as it was Tuesday. I understand that happens, however, I felt VERY unsafe being in an area where I could swing my arms in any direction and touch somebody. Eventually I was rolled down the hall in my wheelchair between two vending machines. People lines the hallways and there is no specific place for more vulnerable, immunocompromised patients. It is by far the worst experience Ive ever had there. The hospital has the funding to build these huge, state of the art buildings around the hospital, but has made no upgrades to their small and outdated ER. If I could have left I would have. An immunocompromised cancer patient should never be exposed to that amount of people in such a small area. For how much my treatment costs, you would think that better care and accommodations would be provided

Such kind and heartfelt care ! Over the past 30 years, I have had so many sad, terrifying moments and, heartbreaking memories here at the University of Michigan Hospital. It’s so nice to come away with a positive experience. I’ve been impressed with the kindness, care & compassion demonstrated to my wife: from the moment she arrived in the ED ( with Nurse Corey and Nurse Sara), to the MPU with kindness and professionalism from Nurse Dawn Andrews , to Paul with Patient Transport all the way to her admission to 6C and was cared for by Nurse Stacey and Nurse Kori . My wife’s physician in the ED, Dr.Hunter, made sure that my wife and I understood the process by which he was making decisions and trajectories for her care. Dr. Hunter made rounds on 6C and took the time to provide important updates that impacted her course of care. As a worried and concerned husband, I can’t begin to articulate my level of gratitude for Dr. Hunter’s approach to proactive and ACTIVE pain management as my wife’s pain levels changed. He listened to my wife and that sounds so basic and so simple ; but, when you’ve seen your wife in pain for hours and hours and all you can do is sit by her bed and lovingly pat her hand and tell her funny stories to try to make her laugh - - - your heart can only be grateful when someone pledges to you their genuine desire and planned efforts to ease that pain. That someone I’m grateful for is : Dr. Hunter

The people from radiology were also friendly and knowledgeable. The nurses were terrible. They would be nice to our faces but would quickly forget about us as soon as they left the room. Probably because all they seemed to do was gossip about other patients right outside our room! One of the nurses was very unfriendly. She barely responded to my mom when she asked questions and didn’t even smile politely. The nail in the coffin was when we asked for a wheelchair so my mom wouldn’t have to walk back to the valet parking. The unfriendly nurse left it outside the door. I had to push my mom in the wheelchair with one arm and drag her walker behind me with the other. We passed at least 20 staff and none of them helped or made eye contact. Some random male nurse in the hall finally pushed the walker for me. This place is why no star reviews are needed. The employees here are very in to themselves. There are more social workers and paper pushers than medical staff. This hospital doesn’t believe in pain care, which is fine, but they also have zero sense of urgency. You will wait for a very long time in agony until they figure it out..if they figure it out. Then you will wait weeks to months for referrals. If you’re a guy you’ll be last on every list and wait much longer. They have excellent drs, first world equipment and staff but they give third world care and treatment. It’s real sad if this is “The Best in Michigan”.Good luck I hope this helps.

In the ultrasound they found my kidney stone that had fallen.Wheeled me back to my spot in the hallway (really, a hallway is where you keep your patients?)It is now 2:30am and I have still not seen a doctor. Only under qualified nurses who are more interested in collecting my insurance than my comfort and would rather talk about shoes than talk to their patients.Overall I am incredibly disappointed in UM as an institution and this is a horrible example of what I thought this place was all about.Whomever leads this part of the hospital needs to be replaced. I have never been in a situation like this where I do not feel like I am getting the proper attention and am ultimately scared they will miss something because honestly, they dont care.Still waiting to see a doctor and all I hear is laughter from personal conversations down the hall.Edit: at this point I couldve driven across the state to Ludington and have been treated before seeing a doctor here.

To think this is one of the greatest hospitals in Michigan is clearly a joke. Was totally misdiagnosed, was not tested properly, had to wait 6 hours before being seen, nurses at triage were extremely lazy and rude and I had a twelve year old dealing with my case. Then had to revisit because of the misdiagnosis the following day for the same reasons and I was basically dismissed and sent home. Because of them not doing the proper tests and checking more into what was going on, I may have avoided the several rounds if tests I have now and I still wouldnt be suffering today, they could have fixed the problem sooner. Thank God I actually followed up with my Dr, because for what I was diagnosed with, most likely I would not have followed up and things would have only gotten worse. They hadnt even asked what the issue was yet, we decided to come to the U of M hospital ER rather than the local clinic because we figured we would get the care we needed immediately instead of the clinic where all the resources are not at hand. Mistake!!! We asked about still waiting, and they couldnt even find us in the computer where we first checked in with name and address and they updated our phone #, didnt want the medical card because someone in tan would be along, well if they lost our name on their computer of course no one in tan is going to show up at your bed in the hallway. So they wanted to know if someone in blue put my daughter in the bed in the hallway!!! What? I dont know but someone wearing clothes took our name, I got a pass and someone with scrubs put us in the hallway. We left after waiting some more and things didnt seem to be getting figured out. Taking your vitals at arrival triggers an outrageously high visit fee. DO NOT come to this ER unless you are not breathing or bleeding to death. They pack patients in to the point of people standing and wheelchairs blocking pathways. Worse they keep admitted patients in the ER due to a lack of space in the hospital so even if admitted you may spend hours and hours in the ER. Even worse, when this happens the people waiting for emergency treatment sit in the waiting area for 4, 6, 10 hours or more! They need to increase the number of beds in both the hospital and the ER and perhaps offer urgent care on site 24/7.The other hospital clearly advertised a goal of being treated and released/admitted within 3 hours. You likely will still be sitting in the waiting area 3 hours after arriving in the ER at U of M hospital. If this is what a top notch hospital looks like, were screwed!

Despite how busy the ED was last night, the entire staff from the minute we stepped in the door were amazing, thorough and compassionate in caring for my daughter.

I would have gave a 4 or 5 star, but they left me hanging at the end. It might have been the fact they were perturbed the 9th floor psych unit gave my fiancee a labotomy shot for no reason rendering her with Drug induced Parkinsons disease. How could you even work in the same building without wanting to punch the guy who abused your patient is an act of God and restraint. That doesnt fly so well on even the greenest streets of Ann arbor. Im 41 am I that old now?

Terrible place! I remember when I had to go to this emergency room, because my blood sugar dropped, due to forgetting to eat. The first thing that happened was that a police officer patted me down, as if I were some sort of dangerous criminal and I then went on to spend several hours in the waiting room, before actually getting to see a doctor. When I finally saw a doctor, she had a list of carefully phrased Are you going to kill yourself? questions, of which I responded No. I am having some sort of physical reaction and need treatment!. Sent me back into the waiting room for a few more hours, printed out the $800+ bill for me and sent me on my way. This is by far the worst hospital I have ever been to. !

13 year old with double compound in his arm sat for 2 plus hours with a neck brace on, and not allowed water while waiting for the doctor. Knowing as soon as we walked in he needed a CT scan. We had to wait an hour and a half before the Dr. assistant ordered the CT. Then an hour later they come in to tell us no CT needed. Yet he still cant have water and must continue to wear the neck brace until after the Dr does his evaluation. What in the world? Left the ER in Chelsea at 10:23 PM via ambulance because the UofM had an orthopedic on staff that could see us right away.1:59 AM no Dr, no Ortho, no water, still has annoying neck brace on that continues to rub the bleeding sore on his neck. He did get a shot of Morphine and a promise the Dr is out making a round, wont be long. I promise2:19 AM nurse checking vitals, no Doctor, no Orthopedic.2:29 AM seen Doctor, got neck brace off, no water until after they review the blood labs from Chelsea. Dr states I see ghag you already seen Ortho we havent!

Worst hospital ever, Im giving one star because Im not allowed to give none.....you can be spitting blood with a bullet hole in your chest that you will still have at least a 3 hour wait......TERRIBLEUpdate: at the time I felt extremely bad, but I understand they had a lot of patients and not enough rooms and too many patients for one er nurse. The wait wasn’t ideal, but I know they did their best. This hospital is one of the best hospitals I’ve been to in Michigan

Do not go here if you are in pain, as abdominal pain is apparently of extremely low concern on the triage scale. I checked in at around 11pm, sobbing and doubled-over with level 10 abdominal pain, and was not treated for pain until almost 6 hours later. Maybe a fine choice for wounds needing stitches, or for heart attacks, but if you are in pain, do not assume that pain relief is high on the priorities list. One more thing: I was placed in a hallway with 4 people who were vomiting into pink buckets, so I got to spend about 4 hours listening to people wretch.

Only gave one star because zero wasn’t an option. They are so slow and extremely rude. We have been her for over 3 hours for a heart condition that is serious and still have not had any results. The staff is rude when asked for updates. The patient can get out of bed so I asked if she could have someone come in and look at her because pain was worse since we got here and they refused because the patient didn’t come ask which was impossible. Bedside manner is terrible and it’s sad since the rest of the hospital is amazing. I will never go here again.

Worst emergency room visit I have ever experienced. I came in with lower flank pain, most likely caused by a kidney stone, and all I was given were two tablets of Tylenol because the nurse practitioner “wasn’t one to give out pain medication.” I waited 7 hours for Tylenol. Avoid this emergency room at ALL costs.

I took my son to emergency with a specific request to have him seen by certain doctors. In spite of the fact that he had no physical trauma, they had 4 different people interview him, taking 4 hours, before sending him where he obviously needed to go. By that time it was late in the evening and we just gave up. Thanks, guys.

Long wait time on a Friday night but this being the fourth health care facility I went to in a week left me so grateful. The ER doctors here knew exactly what was wrong and thank God they caught it before anything got worse. I am highly impressed with the whole team at UofM ER from the very beginning to the very end. God bless all who we encountered and all employees who care enough to make a difference in their patients lives.

This hospital and its staff are NUMBER 1 in my book! From the maintenance dept. to the ER, to the Nurses on the floors and to the surgery and especially the SICU staff! They are by far as professional as they come! How do I know? My life was saved there with a liver transplant! But the way they handled me and spoke to me and cared for me, is why I give them 5 Stars. I was treated with so much respect and care, it goes beyond words. I must have met at least 20 doctors and as much students or more. I met nurses on the 5th floor and SICU that were the top shelf in knowledge and work ethic like Ive never seen before. And Ive had, 8 operations from several different hospitals. So for me this hospital located in Ann Arbor is my 2nd home, because thats how good I felt staying there. Thank You Staff and thank you Michigan for saving my life!

This place is the worst emergency room I have seen in 25 yearsIts like going back in time. 3 hours before being looked at with chest pain. The cafeteria is disgusting, every table was dirty, very unhealthy. Apparently the hospital wants you to get cancer. All they serve is diet pop, aspartame instead of a natural product like sugar. very strange

Came in with over 20 bullseye bites. Multiple doctors looked at me and refused to diagnose it as Lymes. The next day I had a fever, and muscle fatigue, and feel like I have been hit by a truck. Luckily a doctor at an urgent care recognized it and gave me the medication to treat it. If I hadnt gone for a second opinion I would be unknowingly suffering from this debilitating disease.2 stars for the friendliness of the staff, otherwise I would give it a 1.

Worst experience ive had in a hospital. Do not go here. Ive had a staph infection for 8 months, broke out in lesions everywhere, was in serious pain and the only thing they offered me was motrin... no pain medication or antibiotics. The staff makes it very obvious that they do not care about their patients. Like i said, do not go here.

I must say, this is by far one of the most terrible hospitals I have EVER been to. If I could rate 0 stars, I absolutely would. I had to wait in the waiting room for several hours and when I finally saw the doctor and began having tests done, I found out that it was the wrong doctor, WITH THE WRONG PATIENT CHART! The doctors and staff seemed as though they were straight out of the Simpsons! This was not the first, second, or even third time this these problems have occurred with the UofMIf you need to go to the hospital, or doctor for an appointment, PLEASE DO NOT go to UofM. You would be better off seeking treatment from a third-world doctor! The UofM is nothing more than an oligarchical corporation, whos primary concern is making money. They DO NOT care about their patients and I will make sure to tell EVERYONE I know what a appalling place this is!!!

-The setup of this hospital is horrible. There arent enough rooms, so they had patients in gowns waiting in the waiting room.-I was sent to the ER with suspected ectopic pregnancy symptoms. The two ER doctors (Dev and McWeeney) that saw me didnt take my concerns seriously or even look at my past weeks hcg levels (which I had done because my doctor suspected an ectopic and wanted to monitor me). They diagnosed me with a UTI and tried to send us on our way. As we were leaving, McWeeney came in and acted pretty snobby about how the OB wanted to bless me before we could leave. Thank goodness for the OB Fellow (I forgot her name) who actually knew what to look for and quickly diagnosed me with an ectopic pregnancy. I got my two doses of methotrexate and sent us on our way. I understand that Dev and McWeeney arent specialists, but youd think youd want an OB for a suspected OB problem. We were also there for 8 hours. At least the OB Fellow caught the ectopic as it can be dangerous, along with our wonderful nurse Linda who also took our concerns seriously. I hope you dont have to go there as these two ER doctors clearly dont know what theyre doing and easily overlook a potentially life threatening situation.-On an ending note, besides the two doctors, all the other staff were fabulous and caring.
