So far every time I have visited this place the people, staff, doctors, nurses, police, and even volunteers have been so helpful, courteous, friendly, and attentive. I stayed at the lodge there are issues there, but that is a different issue. The hospital is very clean and extremely well maintained. I always find a good parking space and have no trouble finding my way around. This is my fourth visit it two years, and I do enjoy coming back. They take great care of me here.

The automated telephone system needs updated. It is difficult to reach a patient. My mother tried for 30 minutes before asking for help. I chose the nurses desk, then I was transferred 4 times in 22 min. An easy fix would be to add a selection to reach a patient. Your employees would appreciate this as well. They commented how often this happens. Thank you for listening.

How do you thank people for saving your life?I arrived there with covid pneumonia in both lungs. Oxygen level in the low 80s. Doctor said i was critical and having respiratory failure. I spend 5 days in ICU and 4 in a floor room. The nurses and doctors took great care of me and kept me informed of what was happening. 9 days later I walked out of there with a new lease on my life. Thank you!!!

Took my husband, who is a veteran, to thr VA ER in Amarill. Upon arrival, the nurse was on her cell phone and NO MASK!! The front desk guy HAD NO MASK ON!! We were told to wait outside to be screened. The same nurse can out, actually had her mask on....OUTSIDE....and told me I had to wait in the car since there werent any visitors. I AM HIS CAREGIVER!!! Needless to say we walked away and I asked her why they werent wearing their mask in the building but wanted to tell me i couldnt go in. This VA is the biggest joke no wonder there are so many suicides!!!

It’s an older hospital. However, the staff seems nice. Parking is decent. I am 100 percent service connected and because of Covid I talked to my primary care via phone. Which was great. She took care of all my needs and send my meds via the mail. I got blood drawn today and yesterday both staff members where excellent. Today Debbie who took my blood was a sweetheart. The gentleman who took my blood yesterday was a prior combat Corpsman who was attached the Marines. The guy was tough as nails, yet friendly, and precise with the needle! I didn’t even feel the stick! Overall, I’ve been impressed. Plus since I’m a OIF/OEF veteran the Vietnam vets are always a hoot to talk to.

Quite possibly the worst place in the world to go for your health needs. Over the past 12 years, they have completely ruined my digestive system with long term use of vicodin, have charged me $1000 per visit for unnecessary labs (and refused to see me unless I go to the lab prior to my appointment, even if I was going there for a back condition that doesnt require labs). And they have recently referred me to a local hospital for an emergency, and then forced me to pay out of pocket for it, even though it was for a service connected disability. Its difficult to describe just how bad this hospital has been. Its basically a scam hospital. Stay away if you can.

Ive been in the VA system since 1995. Ill admit its been somewhat of a roller coaster ride with highs and lows. I decided to try a different approach with a change in how I perceive what happens during my visits whether its to the primary care, specialty care or the ER. I can actually say wow, talk about a good change. The people that we talk to and interact with are not the problem, its the system that broken and they are doing what they can with what they have. I can honestly say that Ive been getting the best care over the last couple of years because Ive changed my attitude and perspective of the VA. It is what it is at the VA at the higher levels and Im like every other veteran in hoping that positive changes are on the way. In the meantime, dont blame the people that you interact with at the VA. They are stuck in the middle and taking the brunt of frustrations because of some others that are higher up in the VA food chain. Yes, there may be the bad apple to deal with occasionally but thats with any where you go whether its at the VA or grocery store. If you feel that something may be against you, i.e. the VA, maybe you should take a look at your perspective and realize that youll get further with kindness and understanding. I changed my perspective and its made a world of difference at the VA for me. It wasnt overnight and it took some time. You might be surprised how your experiences at the VA will change, mine did. And youll be the one that the VA staff recognizes because they know youre understanding, kind and respectful. They will instantly ask you by name what can I do for you today with an honest smile because they know they are going to have a positive experience and in turn they will go the extra mile to help you.

Amazing staff, went there in a not great situation was treated with respect and greeted with smiles. Before I got in to see the Veteran the staff had to ask him/her if I was welcome to visit. Seeing as it was close to midnight and I live 4 hours away and was totally lost they set me up with a hospitality room for the night. The dr and nurses were eager to answer all my questions and listen to my vets concerns. Ive been to 1 other VA hospital and it was awful. This place truly cares and respects the men and women who have served OUR GREAT COUNTRY!!!

This VA is a wonderful place to go for dr visits. The only problem is with the travel. They scheduled my husband for surgery in Dallas and they are trying to not pay us for the mileage and food. I guess the government doesn’t want you to eat and they expect you to sleep in a vehicle. Have made a few trips because this is where THEY sent him but we don’t always have the funds to just up and run. Very disappointed in that aspect of it.

Requested appointment for evaluation for dental implant. Was approved within a week. Dr. Rodriguez spent a lot of time with me explaining implant vs bridge proceedure . Also, the technician who took my x Rays was great too. Very polite, and knowledgeable. Thanks for her service in the Navy also. The VA gets a lot of bad press, but the dental staff in Amarillo are the best. I hope someone that has political influence reads this.

SO HAPPY THAT THIS IS NOT MY VA!I’m from out of town and had severe pain in the abdomen and came to this VA to seek emergency care. I was put in the “quiet room” with nothing in it. I’m guessing it was a containment room ? No tissue, no real hospital bed, no sink , no connections in the wall, vacant and cold . The bed had no linen and the one table in the room was taken for another patient. I was given a blanket and had to sit in a chair forever waiting for a urine sample to come back. Not offered water or pain meds or even questioned by anyone how how I’m even doing as I’m literally in tears and groaning from pain . I asked for tissue the lady said she would find some somewhere and walked away . Still waiting and still haven’t seen A nurse . No one should be treated this way with this healthcare system . Horrible

Moved here from Dallas. This is such a nice change. Dallas VA is garbage in comparison as far as service goes. Everyone at the Amarillo facility is great. I understand that Dallas is a stressful place and people are dealing with a lot. While there are a lot of very nice and helpful people that work at the Dallas VA, there were plenty who were just mean and couldn’t care less how long you had to wait. Tell you to be at an appointment at 7 am only to wait until 330 pm and then tell you the dr left at lunch. Glad to be rid of that place.

The VA is the worst place to step into. I’m not a patient but I’ve been there twice on deliveries. NO ONE is nice or smiles. The first time I went the evening scary gray haired clerk at the ER entrance yelled at me repeatedly about not knowing where to take the delivery. When I exited the building & called the number on the ticket he picked up & yelled at me again about how he’d already told me where to go which was no help at all. As I ran around the buildings looking for the correct entrance he sent the VA campus police after me to write me a citation. Luckily I got away with after his threats, just to find out I had gone in the right entrance the first time. Today I went in & no one smiled or greeted me. Some patient cut me off & the nurse Sarah didn’t even acknowledge me. I absolutely hate their employees, no wonder the veterans are depressed.

A disabled 100% veteran it treats for my disabling condition and get all my meds thru them as a disable vet. Team of doctors have now are willing to listen and talk with me a patient and have resources for which I can contact for any questions about treatment, medications or concerns for my health. The only real drawback is getting through Central call and having calls returned in timely manner. Some of the Central call people are really hard to deal with and get the importance of call thru to them to have your call returned. Very frustrating at times knowing the communication between some of these individuals is poor at the best. So glad when I can establish a direct contact with nurse, coordinator to talk directly, too, is a plus in care.

My extended thanks to COL Kiefer, Ms. Elizabeth Lowery and the extraordinary staff of medical professionals at the Amarillo VA Health Care System. I have spent time in other VA facilities over the years, and there is simply no comparison to the quality and professionalism at the Amarillo facility.I had some ongoing issues that I tried so hard to get taken care of at other facilities over the years. In the six months Ive been in the system here in Amarillo, they have addressed all those issues.Almost every medical professional Ive talked with at the Amarillo VA is either a Veteran themselves, or their spouse is a Veteran. I feel in good hands, because I know my Veteran brothers and sisters are taking care of me.VA Secretary David Shulkin should take some time to study the Amarillo facility. Our Veterans across the country deserve the kind of care afforded to us at the Amarillo VA Health Care System.Thank you, to all who work there, for taking care of us with compassion and dignity. What you do, really makes a difference in our lives.

So weve all heard about the suicides committed by our military veterans, right? Right now my father-in-law is sitting at THE PAVILLION with no help because THE VA HOSPITAL would rather send a COMPLETELY SANE man to the LOONEY BIN rather than give him THE HELP HE NEEDS for his pain. The AMARILLO VA HOSPITAL would rather leave people for DEAD than DO THEIR JOBS and treat the people who have given EVERYTHING for this country! Also, the doctors at the PAVILION would rather SIT ON THEIR BUTTS than diagnose and treat those in their care! #AmarilloVA #gethelp #supportourtroops
