I first visited Dr. Shumate when I was having tooth pains and he got me an appointment the very same day and took care of the tooth quickly. He has been very great as I keep getting more teeth work done at his office. Everyone is very kind and accommodating and the whole office is very easy to be around. Porters neck dentistry was great with working around my schedule and financial needs. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a new dentist! - Christopher Buckner

I just had the best experience here! I am a stay at home mom with a nine week old baby. My husband works and we dont have childcare, but I desperately needed to go to the dentist! As it was my first visit, I called to ask if I could bring my son along, and they said yes. Well, not only were they friendly and accommodating - they went above and beyond to make me and my son comfortable. Several amazing things happened - they were happy to let me hold him AND nurse him while they were cleaning my teeth! The dental hygienist, Rhonda, was so awesome and even got me a towel to prop up my arm while I was nursing so it didnt get tired. Seriously, the best experience, especially for someone with children. What an atmosphere. Awesome job!

Dr. Shumate runs a very professional offie and has great staff. They are alway positive and upbeat and very knowledgeable about the treatments they offer. Highly recommend if you are looking for a new dentist.

Being new to the area I was a little nervous about the new dentist situation but Dr. Shumates dental hygienist was super friendly and enthusiastic for a Monday morning appointment. Sort of made my day! Dr. Shumate was extremely friendly during his exam and made it a point to connect personally with me, his new patient! Thanks everyone for making this trip to the dentist pleasant!

Dr. Dana Shumate and the staff at Porters Neck Dentistry are simply the BEST! They are always very welcoming and cheerful and make you feel right at home. Dr. Shumate is an excellent dentist, eases your fears, and takes very good care of you. HIs staff is first class in every way!

BEWARE! I allowed Dana Shumate to perform a root canal on a molar. He is not an Endodontist and he should not be doing root canals! I was in agony for days after the procedure. He admitted that he broke a file off in my tooth. I ended up having to see an Endodontist to have the root canal redone. To this day I still have pain in my tooth. Now I may have to have oral surgery to have the broken file removed. I have returned to my precious dentist. He even told me what a bad job Shumate did to my tooth. I have to have a new cap because the one Shumate made doesn’t fit and keeps popping off! I will have to pay my dentist $1000 for a new cap! I allowed Shumate to fill my daughter’s cavity - the filling fell apart after 6 months. I had her go back to my current dentist. He said Shumate used a cheap substance. Oh and the “big crack” that was in a different tooth - he said that it needed a cap - it’s been 3 years and guess what?! My current dentist said that it was fine, it didn’t need a cap!!!!! BEWARE
