Though Im generally skeptical (even cynical) about the integrity of mechanic shops, I felt I was treated well today at Main Street Smog & Repair. Im not happy with what the work cost, but doubt it would have been any less expensive elsewhere. They were friendly, professional, and prompt. They estimated the cost and time the work would require, and the estimate was accurate. They asked about things I hadnt noticed, and dropped it when I didnt want to do further work. I found the gas cap was no longer attached, when I went to fill up, so I went back, and they cheerfully reattached it. Overall, I am quite pleased with their service.

This is by far the worst smog check station I have ever been. I stopped by two other stations before I went to Main Street Smog--I was in a hurry and the other two both said it would be about an hour before they could check my truck. Main Street Smog was completely empty of customers and they said they could check my truck immediately. First off, they advertise smog checks for $29.75 on the phone and in the phone book--only when you stop in do they tell you it is for 2007 and newer models; otherwise its $55-$65 dollars. They are not friendly at all and in fact almost rude. I almost got the impression that I interrupted the receptionists movie watching when I showed up, but after she did my paperwork she went right back to watching. But the best part was after the inspection when I went to pay with my debit card, she laughs and says cash and check only. So as I look around the room for a sign that says as much, she says yeah, we dont have a sign up for that yet. I had to drive to Flyers gas station on Mineral King and 198 to use the ATM. At this point I wasnt sure if Main Street Smog would make change, so I stood in line to break one of the 20s just in case. I will never go here again, and I would not recommend this station to my worst enemy!
