My experience with the Drs. And Nurses at the University Hospital was second to none. Everyone was very attentive, patient and was able to make me feel like the only patient, despite the many that came and went. May the Lord continue to protect and keep you all safe especially during this time when we are all at risk, during the pandemic. Bless you all!

When I walked in the hospital, I wasnt overly impressed by the installations but the staff made up for it. My father went in with a head injury that wouldnt stop bleeding and required stitches and a CAT scan. Even though they were at capacity because of Covid, they made room for him. Dr. Ellis, the nurse (Richard?), Kareem (CAT scan), and the gentlemen in the front who was checking in people and helped bandage up my father in the lobby until he was admitted were all great. Im impressed that they all had a positive attitude despite being overwhelmed with patients.

This review is being written almost a year later because I finally have found the time to be as tactful and professional as possible. While I was receiving chemotherapy I had to be admitted to the ER for dehydration. I was also confused and hypotensive. I don’t want to even mention how I was treated as a patient so I just focus on my unsafe discharge. Yes I was discharged while disoriented and placed in the waiting room. No family member was notified that I had been discharged so I spent the night between sitting in the waiting room and a bench outside the ER. It wasn’t until a friend called to check on me and I told her that I was alone and didn’t know where I was. She had to call my family to come and collect me. Now they have the heart to send me a bill without even apologizing. I don’t think a dog would be treated like this in this day and time. Actually I did hear from the ER physician who treated me calling to see how I was doing after finding out that I was an RN!!! I don’t even want to hear the name University called!!!

My wife was taken by ambulance to this hospital. She had fallen off her bike and was diagnosed with a fractured arm and hip. The orthopedic doctor performed a partial hip replacement, but nothing was done for her arm. The doctor told my wife that after surgery he would call me. I never heard from him. My wife stayed at the hospital for 5 days and in that time she saw the doctor once. Nobody ever came in to look at her incision or check on her. In the 5 days there she was never given any of her prescribed medicines. She is a diabetic. On the fifth day she was told they were sending her to a rehab center. I have found this hospital to be unorganized and lack communication. Since I was not permitted to visit due to Covid, I was depending on the staff to keep me informed. That never happened. When I called no body answered. I would never recommend anybody to go to this hospital. My wife came out worse than when she went in. As a spouse you would hope that a hospital would have compassion and trust. This hospital has neither.

Other peoples experiences may vary but my 83 year old mother was admitted to University Hospital a few weeks ago and spent almost a week there. Our experience was very good. Everyone we met was extremely friendly from the security staff to the nurses and admin staff. Later, I was discharged without my pain management meds ( I asked for them but was told to take Motrin and vitamin E). After getting home, I had to call surgeon’s office to get my prescriptions, which were prescribed immediately. But because of the time of day, I had to wait till the next day to get my meds. I went here today to get a covid test and for abdominal pain. My issue lies with the security guard shaped like a beluga whale, going on a 20 minute rant because I told the person checking me in I was not vaccinated and ranting about how Covid is real. Yeah, it is that’s why I was getting a Covid test 🤔 Because I don’t owe this woman anything, and she’s not a medical provider,I let her talk. But what she should be worried about is securing the hospital instead of being in peoples medical business. She should stay in a SECURITY GUARDS place before someone puts her back in it, luckily for her I’m a better person :)

Just when I thought it couldnt get any better, Dr.Kenneth Greenberg walks by. He stops just to say hello and briefly asked why were there. I thought for sure that he would just nod and go on with what he was doing in the first place. Nope, he stopped and assessed the situation. This is the worse hospital I have ever encountered in South Florida. Only 14 members of staff exhibited the slightest amount of compassion. When we complained to management, instead of improved treatment, it got worse! I know we are in the middle of a pandemic, however, compassion is surely lacking at this hospital. Because you complain about the service, instead of trying to improve, the patient is deemed a complainer. As to that bully of a physiotherapist, the surgeon said there should be no walking for 6 weeks, yet she tried to bully me, trying to force me out of bed. If the hospital needed the bed so badly we would leave in a hurry anyway although there was an empty bed in the same room. For a teaching hospital, there seemed to be a lack of supervision with what we assume were trainee nurses not knowing how to draw blood! One nurse with extremely dirty fingernails came in to administer medication and had to be reminded to put on gloves. Staff members even confided to us that they were unhappy about the level of service but had to keep quiet in fear of losing their jobs! There was a patient in the very next room who kept shouting help and she was largely ignored until we overheard a nurse telling her to stop yelling Is this how hospital staff should behave? I think not! Another glaring omission was the lack of communication. We had no idea what was happening, when I would be scheduled for surgery, or what what was the strength of the medication given. The nurse flippantly said we are coming to take you at which point my daughter and I both asked take me where? Never judge a book by its cover. Never assume that the patient is uninformed and knows nothing about hospital procedures. I will end this here because hospital management will be discarding this review anyway.

I was then released with no instructions regarding the staples and no reference of the doctors name. I was also never placed on antibiotics.

The nursing staff and preoperative anesthesia nurses were wonderful!!! I had a very good experience. I would not hesitate to have surgery there again.

I drove myself to the University Hospital ER because it was very close to my house and I had abdominal pain. No one wants to go to the hospital during a pandemic, right? Well, it was a good thing I did. What I had thought the day before was just a really painful gas pocket in my chest that had moved down turned out to be an attack from a gangrenous gallbladder. The professionals at University Hospital took my claims seriously, zeroed in on the likely cause immediately and had me in surgery the next morning. I felt that while everyone had plenty of work to do, they were all extremely competent and mindful of the fact that each patient needed the best care possible. Tests seemed logical to verify the safety of planned next steps, and they even moved me out of a room next to a construction area when a private room became available.I dont know if the thorough treatment would have been offered to someone without insurance, but thats not on the doctors, nurses and techs who deal directly with patients anyway. Every single person who worked with me was kind, friendly, and never resentful or rude despite all that must be asked of them on a daily basis during this pandemic. If you have a choice about where to have your medical emergency, you might as well have it at University Hospital. Im grateful to all of them for the excellent care I received.

I went to the ER. It was empty. I waited about two hours for results for a single test. After I got the the results the doctor couldn’t answer me any questions due to lack of knowledge in the field. I came out very disappointed.
