Findings: Old facility, weight and cardio rooms feel small. Lights flicker on and off occasionally. Machines need maintenance/service. Weights and equipment need better TLC and a deep cleaning. Example: I used the brownish looking barbell and after 4 sets, I had surface rust all over my hands. A bunch of metal objects have surface rust. They may also want to get a dehumidifier for each room. They also had low or no stock of paper towels or cleaning product in the weight room.Opinion: This Y needs a remodel or relocation. I dont know if its staffing, management, funding, or something else, but it just doesnt feel like a place to get excited about to go workout.

Clean gym and friendly staff. Pool is a little older, but a still great place to workout. Great rates for membership and use of YMCAs all over New England.

Its a good place to work out in Stamford. Equipment is sort of older but usually works. Sort of wish other people did a better job of cleaning up after themselves, but thats not the fault of the employees. They have all of the essentials though. Good weight and cardio room. Group workout room too.

Couldn’t find the words to describe the level of rudeness that was administered to me after already entering the gym to workout after working out there for almost a year and being only 16 I was kicked out due to the fat that my membership was given to me from an after school program and because the lady couldn’t contact the head of my after school program I was kicked out being only 16 and wanting to be at the gym after school is a good place for a kid my age wanting to be I can’t understand why I was questioned and kicked out that day but it wasn’t right I hope this doesn’t happen to other youth because a good gym should support the teens by encouraging fitness instead of being out in the streets or going hike where no one wants to be or doing drugs or vandalizing the gym is a safe haven for some people and the safest most positive distraction for some people to do

Nice place, but one thing......Today me and my daughter went swimming, we usually don’t go on Mondays, but since we had some extra time we decided to go. As we entered the pool deck, this woman (a life guard) told us to shower beforehand before Entering the pool. We already had at home, but there was no use in arguing. 5 minutes later, we entered the pool. The water was freezing! We go to the deep end a lot so we started head there, but she stopped my daughter and asked if she could swim. Of course she can! She wouldn’t go into the deep end if she didn’t know how to swim! So, my daughter said that she was cold and was warming up still. But, instead, the lady said she had to swim a WHOLE LAP! My daughter refused and said “ I do know how to swim! I’m just cold!” But the lady simply just said that she gotta do a whole lap! My daughter has no choice but to listen to her. She is very shy! We had gone there before and she saw her swim a couple of laps! She knew she could swim! My daughter was still freezing and there were many people too! The lifeguard is very strict!! No other guard acted like she did! We won’t be swimmingif she is there!(daughter): I was going to the deep end like normal, staying close to the wall, and when the lady saw me, she was like “Whoa! Wait a second, do you know how to swim dear?” And I said yes, but she said I have to swim a whole lap to show her! I said I was cold but she just repeated the same thing! I said I was just cold but she didn’t listen! I am a shy girl and I’m not used to getting in trouble or being talked to. I tried swimming but I was still super cold. Then, we decided to just leave! She was mean! I don’t really like her.......

Great stuff. The quality of this YMCAs offerings continue to improve.Theyve been contentious to ensure that there are consistently lanes available for lap swimming while they support kids at camp, and family swim. The locker room is consistently clean enough, if not very clean. The workout areas have a diverse amount of equipment with enough that there really isnt a wait. Recommend.

Located up a few stairs is the YMCA. There is a small receptions desk and then after signing in, on that same floor their is a pool and changing rooms to the right. If you do not want to do either of those on the second floor is machines you can exercise with from ellipticals, treadmills, leg press, weights, and most machines that exercise your legs have TVs on them. There are also TVs on the walls for those who dont have TVs on their machines. There is a room accessible to everyone and sometimes there are classes in it like Zumba. There is also a basketball court but it is not a true full court and it is vertically cut in half separating two sides, allowing for two games to be played at once. Above the basketball court is a track which people are allowed to run or walk on for exercise.

The front desk is no help at all. We have been a member of the ymca for over 15 years and have never been met with such rudeness. There was no manager on site to help and because of this, my family and I will be taking our business elsewhere.

Unlike the last two negative reviews I think the Stamford Y is a good place to go. Their facility is older, but they have added new machines to their fitness center. The pool is dated as well, but the facility itself is very clean. I always see maintenance buffing the floors, and cleaning the windows. The womens locker room is very clean. I dont play basketball, so I cannot attest to the condition of the gym floor, but it looks pretty nice to me.Membership is very pleasant. I have not had much interaction with them, but when I have I have not had any negative experiences. The pricing is reasonable, considering you get to use any Y in the US for FREE included with your membership. My only drawback is that I do wish they offered more fitness classes in the morning. The evening is a bit of a hassle for me. Zumba is my favorite class (Sandra & Frances are AMAZING!!), but its offered during the afternoon and evenings only and my schedule does not always permit me to be able to attend :(I usually do not write reviews for businesses, but I do believe that you should experience the Stamford Y for yourself before judging off of a few disgruntled people.

Its an amazing gym to go to! Everyone is super nice, I cant wait for covid-19 to end so I can go back, plus last time I was there they were remodeling the place! The bathrooms look sooo nicee! One thing I have to suggest and mention is to have more space to do warm ups so I dont have to be so close to someone working out. But besides that this gym is awesome 5 stars!

Signed up for infant swim class. While I thought the facility was clean and the instructor good, the facility is very outdated and not setup to be family friendly. Instead of an elevator or ramp they have a lift like a loading dock where you need to get an employee to operate. Also the family changing room is missing necessities the last time I was there like a garbage and changing table.. The family bathroom, which there are 2 are usually occupied as they are both for families and people with disabilities.

I am absolutely disgusted with this place. For starters, the membership fee is outrageously high ($48/month) compared to most other fitness centers in Stamford (i.e., L.A. Fitness is $30/month) and they do not offer any guest passes, as opposed to most others in the area.Every time I go there, they are either taking up half the gym, or on many occasions, the ENTIRE gym, for after-school and related activities. I look at their gym schedule all the time, yet management does not usually abide by it, as they will randomly take up the ENTIRE court as we are playing basketball, without any advanced notice. The staff here are very rude and unfriendly, and sometimes they do not even greet you when you check in. I am always friendly and nice towards them, yet sometimes I just get ignored. Also, they never have any available basketballs (they usually have 2-3 adult-sized ones at most, which are always in use) and good luck asking them to bring out more. Also, they never clean the floor in the gym, as I am constantly seeing people slip and fall, and I have come very close to falling numerous times. It is a very easy way to get injured, not to mention file a lawsuit, as I am sure many have done.I have been to many other YMCA’s throughout the state, and this is by far the worst one to go to. I cancelled my membership and I am switching over to another club, as I am very dissatisfied with this particular location. Biggest waste of time, money, and energy!!!

I had the good fortune to walk into the Y about five months ago and, after a informative and complete tour of its facilities by the membership director Steve Rosati, I decided to join. The Y is in the process of significant upgrading but the mens locker room is complete, up to date, clean and inviting. The showers are personal and the new sauna is just terrific. The seventy-five foot pool is well kept, clean with the most helpful life-guard on duty, whenever I have been there. I understand the the gym area is soon to be upgraded but it is more than functional now. More importantly, whenever I needed either a gym instructor or a massage therapist they were available; I found both of them helpful, very knowledgable and the fees were reasonable. This Stamford Y, more than others I have belonged to, really makes an effort to serve the needs of the entire community. I am more than happy that I joined.

Very bad customer service. My daughter (5 years old) is attending the summer camp.1st I complete the summer camp application and the lady from the front desk told me “they going to call you”. So no one call me and the 2nd day that I complete the application I check my account and they charge me without any information.2nd The day before the camp started I send and email to the lady in charge the summer camp at 12:30am and she responded and send me the info.3rd Every time that I go there to talk to her, she’s in a meeting.4th Every time I ask one of the staff they said “I don’t know”.I’m really frustrated and this’s going to be the 1st and last time that my daughter attended this summer camp....YMCA IN DARIEN is the best, for couple more $$$ you can have a better service.

The Stamford YMCA is a HORRIBLE facility to have a membership. Equipment is out of order, if you work with weights you must walk throught the facility looking for weights. The ceiling is falling due to water damage, the hallway if full of junk. Its a horroble facility to work out at. I recently joined the Y and I hate the ambiance. I smiply cannot make myself go there to work out. It is a depressing facility, I explained this to the Director Steven Rosati and asked to get out of the contract, he offered a personal trainer, he offered a massage, none of what he offered will fix the problem of why I dont want to be there. If you are considering joining the YMCA try get a trial week, you dont see or experience all of the problems with this facility with just a walk through.
