This is a great place if you are struggling. The staff is wonderful, and they’re all so nice. The nurses are especially nice and make you feel comfortable and heard. The bedrooms are clean, as well as all the other rooms. I was scared at first but left feeling happy and 100 times better then I felt when I first got there. I honestly don’t know where I’d be without this place, it really saved my life.

My bestfriend had a terrible experience . she was very depressed and the amount of times their workers threatened to tase her was unnecessary and extremely frightening. she wakes in the middle of the night screaming with flash backs of how terrible her experience was . she felt very uncomfortable , there were no shower doors , and felt many others watched her . it gives her ptsd to this day . do not send your loved ones here . there are better options

Dont send your loved one to Epworth unless you never want to see them again! MAXIMUM SECURITY LOCKDOWN FACILITY (think of the mental hospital in Terminator 2). Beware! St. Joesph County Sheriff routinely hauls people there against their will in Handcuffs!! Pissed off friends & family turned away at the front bulletproof glass reception window inside. Say they will pass along your name & number to inmate to call you back (none are there willingly). Wont even verify if person is THERE !!! Guantanamo on U.S. soil. Staff’s job appears to be to continually LIE (to patients & visitors). They don’t like visitors. They especially don’t like anyone who tries asserting their legal rights. Ban them from visiting. Continually lie & be told “They’re in group.” when you try calling loved one. No contact. “Doctor’s orders.” Ask patient, “Who you gonna call?” Only 2 patient Phones supposedly Out-of-order frequently. Show up for visit (lousy 1 hr. 15 min. Tu/Th/Sat) to be stalled, and shut down. “No visitors – doctor’s orders.” MEMORIAL HOSPITAL SECURITY + MEMORIAL HOSPITAL POLICE SUVs continually parked out front. Hand-delivered Greeting cards will be confiscated as soon as you leave (taken away from patient). Mustn’t have patient keeping track of how long they’ve been held AGAINST THEIR WILL. Banquet TV dinners (can you believe that?) NO BOOKS (fascists). They only have ( 1 ) M.D. + ( 1 ) Nurse Practitioner who play God with patients refusing to release them for as long as they can get away with billing Medicare (526 staffed beds). “No change. No reason to contact family.” There is no such thing as a treatment Plan (there is no treatment whatsoever) – playing cards, watching TV, can do that at home. NO SMOKING (can you say ill-tempered Withdrawal?) Lost 100% of her clothes in the laundry. Confiscated her sandals (and wouldn’t allow slippers) because “Could be used as a weapon.” Nonsense. Other inmates were wearing footwear. She was forced to walk around in socks. Doctor, Nurse Practitioner, and Social Worker all asked, “What are you doing here?” only to decide to Keep her for as long as possible. Orderly told me the majority of people there are from severely lacking sleep! Dope them up on meds & put in Quiet Room (100% metal walls & floor). Biker dude broke his hand punching the wall in quiet room. This is not an opinion. These are facts. This all was my unfortunate experience. My loved one now has High Blood Pressure (caused she’s positive) being dragged out of her own bedroom by 2 Cops & held for 9 Days of “Hell. Pure HELL” (her own words). She said all she did was cry for the entire time. Still cries talking about it. Doesn’t feel safe in her own home any more.Take your loved one across the street to Oaklawn (they don’t admit anyone without their Consent).

This place is awful they said they will help with depression but instead of helping they make it worst, they didn’t let me talk to my daughter the they she aas admitted, i didn’t had the chance to tell her that i love her, they never contact me but once about her progress while she was there, i keep calling and asking to get more information about her health and never no one had an answer, looks like this place is just to get the money out of the insurance and not to help people, nurses keep saying to talk to the doctors and doctors were always busy, medical Assistants and people who watch the girls are males to during the night... worst place

My experience in the Adolescent unit wasn’t great to be honest (not here to rant but give constructive feedback). Very confused most times because of lying ( was told I would be able to make as many calls as I wanted before being admitted, but later told I can only have few a day) and I had another experience with a Psychiatrist where I was told I was manipulating my parents because I wanted to go home because I didn’t like the treatment. Medication complications (was told I couldn’t control my emotions repeatedly after I was having outbreaks from medication problems and psychiatric didn’t recognize that even though I told him that). I did learn to “cope” better and to control my emotions better, but I was mentally exhausted in that place and had very bad depression (the worst it has ever been) all throughout my stay. Nurse calling kids out about using coping skills in front of everyone because they were mad he cheated in a game (very immature on the nurses end smh). Psych Techs aren’t rude or anything and do motivate you, talk to you about problems, give advice. Groups are okay (mostly management for anxiety, depression, stress, getting your life back together, etc). Hall bathrooms were dirty bandages, old shampoo cups, dirty towels, and had a funny smell (looked as if they hadn’t been washed in weeks *not even lying*). laundry smelled funny after being received back (also left weird spots on some clothes). Rooms were dirty (beds smelled awful and had weird spots and marks). To be completely honest this place kinda sucked, I wouldn’t go here again. Send your children to a better place because it is like being in jail but worse.

Had been having severe suicidal thoughts for over a year before coming here. It’s shocking when you first enter, but the staff make you feel surprisingly better. Staff such as Antonio, Robbie, Jen, Kip, Valerie, Amber and Sir Jarrett made it feel much more comfortable. They really do somehow make you want to feel better and almost nothing else has ever done the same for me. The various types of therapy are amazing as well. Sir Jarrett did an amazing job of making you feel normal. Amber did the same and is also really good at calming others down. Valerie and Kip would always pull you aside and ask how everything was doing, especially Kip. I know this sounds very rant-like but this place truly saved my life.

Great caring and positive people, workers at this company. Been here several times, better results each time. Doctors are very nice and understanding as well as the social workers and other employees. Its a safe place to get checked out/figure out whats going on; they even find/ have ways to help fix the negative lifestyles/negative emos etc so we can live more comfortably/, they also refer to certain medication and physicians if needed. Good place..we need more places like that...

!!!USE CAUTION THIIS IS NOT WHAT WE THOUGHT IT WAS!!! This institution is a prison for unexpected people. In which they still your rights and the rights of your family. I would never use this place again. Use caution if your thinking about putting your loved one here. If you do so, you lose all your rights to them and they will kidnap them and only let them out at their own discretion. Dont dare ask questions about whats going on because if you dont agree with them you are being hostile. When all actuality your just trying to be informed so you can make a decision on your loved one. This place gets a F for working with their patients and their family. All theyre concerned about is their own feelings. A person with no record of any type whos never hurt them selves or others should never lose their rights because of opinions alone it should be backed up with records and facts. This is totally unconstitutional. IF I would of known this before he went there I would of never agreed to this. All this is doing is scarring him and his family. Im not a psychologist but Im sure this is doing alot for his anxiety. There are better places then this. Make sure you educate yourself about a place before you agree to put your loved one in a place like this or you will be in my position and possibly causing you to seek council on his behalf. Mind you there is nothing wrong with my uncle hes off the medication that caused this which was a steroid for his lungs. When I talked to him he has his state of mind and he doesnt like the treatment hes getting so I attempted to get his release and was met with a bunch of red tape. They informed me he cant leave and that I have to wait for his pychologist to determine if he can leave and they have 24 hours to do so and they dont have to let him go if they dont want to on grounds of opinions. Regardless of your feelings or opinions that arent backed up with concrete facts if a person wishes to leave a place that they signed in to on their own for no legal reason should be able to sign a waiver to do so. I didnt know this was a prison when we started this, all we were doing was looking for help. SO THANKS EPWORTH CENTER FOR YOUR PROFESSIONALISM

Everyone was amazing. The nurses were so kind. I ended up leaving what felt like family. They really helped narrow down my problem and give me ways to cope. Loved my Epworth family.

Do not send your child here if they have an eating disorder. The staff is rude and knows nothing about eating disorders. They will not monitor your child like they say they will. The techs are clearly told nothing about the pts they are supposed to be monitoring. Seek Residential help from a facility that specializes in eating disorders.

Most horrible place for the elderly. Things I saw there were unbeliveable. Wouldnt let my worst enemy stay there. The so called sitters mistreat the patients terribly and seem to lack training or intelligence to do the job. Suspect sexual abuse to family member! STAY FAR AWAY.

I was a patient there about a year ago. I had the unfortunate encounter with a night nurse named Rebecca. When I wanted to talk to a manager regarding her mistreatment and misunderstanding my feelings of my spouse passing away. I was introduced to a nurse named Liz Saliant. She was rude, obnoxious and belligerent. Epworth just made my depression feel worse. I could not wait to get our of there.

My 14-year old son stole more than $20, used it to go out and buy three knives today. When he finally came home 3 hours later, we found and confiscated the knives. He then picked open his skin with his finger nails and began writing in blood on himself that he wanted to kill himself. We took him to Epworth and were literally told that he was just doing it for attention and if he hadnt verbally said he wanted to kill himself they would not admit him.He has attempted suicide in the past and is diagnosed with bipolar. A month ago, he went in Epworth because he was trying to hurt the rest of the family. They kept him a week- sedating him the entire time- and he came home just as manic as he went in.We are going to look at other mental health options in our area because Epworth has proven that it just wants money and does not truly care about mental health.

My boyfriend has gone there 3 times and says they do nothing to help. Their services are outdated and they dont help because they care, they help because it makes them money. And that help is mediocre at best. If youre mentally ill and in need of help, I do not recommend this hospital.
