Dr Ellenbogen is an absolutely wonderful man and saved my daughters life. He recognized her issues and made a plan. He was kind, compassionate, understanding and VERY knowledgeable. My daughter loved him and felt safe at only 2 yrs old. He was funny and inviting. I would trust him with my life to the fullest. Thank you so much doctor and we appreciate you everyday ❤️

I met Richard when I was very young, it’s coming up on 12 years, when I was seven he saved me from being paralyzed and being in a wheelchair permanently, because of him I live a normal life and I’m able to do what everyone else can, I’m extremely grateful to have had him as my neurologist. He puts extreme care into how I’m feeling, if anything has changed and if there’s anything he should be worried about, he really cares about his patients and their well-being, easily the best neurosurgeon you could have help you or a loved one!

I cannot say anywhere near enough good things about Dr. Richard Ellenbogen. He removed a tumor from my brain when I was fifteen and treated me with respect throughout the whole process, making sure that I felt comfortable and safe. His personal manner is second to none, and he is without a doubt on the kindest and most skilled doctors I have ever meet. I credit him with my being able to live a normal life and cannot praise his ability enough.

I couldn’t ask for a better surgeon. Doctor Ellenbogen is the best of the best. He laughed with us, comforted us, and made the entire experience feel lighter. He kept us well informed on every detail and couldn’t have been more kind or helpful with our questions and concerns. He paid such close attention during my surgery that he found another problem that was causing my severe headaches as well as my malformation and fixed both. I am so grateful for his expertise and character. He is by far the greatest doctor and surgeon I have ever met.

Worst bedside manner we’ve ever experienced during an initial visit by this so called doctor. Typical surgeons’ brash and holier-than-thou image when speaking to parents. No doctors gowns, dressed in 3 piece suit with his fancy blinging gold watch on his wrist, gum chewing and his resident following him around like a mini-Ellenbogen-wannabe and she too chewing gum.Took my 4 yr old to Boston Children’s instead to see Michael Scott (and Ed Smith, both performed surgery one side each on my child’s brain) where/whom Richard Ellenbogen supposedly studied under. Ellenbogen needs to learn to be more humble and approachable to patients and parents rather than treating them like revenue generating customers that fatten his pockets.

Dr. Richard Ellenbogen is nothing short of a miracle worker! After almost a 10-year journey, more doctors than I can recall, and 3 hospitals spread over 3,000 miles finally our grandsons diagnosis is found...a Chiari malformation with Syrongmelia. We were directed to Dr Ellenbogen for the surgical procedure on my grandson just eight weeks ago and from the very first day, just two hours after the surgery... Our grandson was up dancing with his intensive care nurses. From day one our grandson is on room air, no more oxygen, no more BiPAP, Nomar pulmonary best machines, ipvs, not to mention no more respiratory meds since the day Dr ellenbogen perform this life-saving procedure on our young man. Words will never be enough to express our gratitude for his skill and compassion.

Dr.Ellenbogen is a hero. He is a angel who performs mirecals on his patients daily. He has saved many many lives and continues to do so after so many years. 13 years ago in 2007 he performed brain surgery on me and cried because I almost lost my sight. I was only 12 at the time and he hugged and embraced me before hand and said he was astounded to have me as a patient and was blessed to have worked with me. I have cushings disease still to this day and I have seen him here and there at clinic.I highly recommend him to anyone in need of a neurological doctor. His hands and mind and eyes are very much a gift.

Dr Ellenbogen saved my quality of life. After 38 years of dealing with severe headaches, clumsiness, balance problems, dizziness, naseua, sleep apnea and other symptoms he finally believed me that something was really wrong. My mom even took me in for testing to see if I had cerebral palsy when I was a kid. I saw many Drs had lots of tests. Was usually told its all in your head. Well guess what it actually was. My symptoms were getting worse. I finally got a copy of my most current MRI it said there was a 7 mm cerebral ectopia. Thinking that didnt sound good I asked my Dr at the time about it. She told me that it was just an incidental finding and it didnt mean anything. Well I did some research and found that it could be a chiari malformation. Dr Ellenbogen, who happens to practice somewhat close to me, specialized in it. I made an appt with him. He told me that my symptoms most definitely could be from this. He also recommended brain surgery. Scary, but worth it. I woke up in the recovery room and my headache was gone. I had surgical pain, but thats different. The headache that I had dealt with my whole life was now gone. I couldnt believe it. Still 14 years later I occasionally get headaches. Im still awkward. Am I happy I had the surgery. ABSOLUTELY!!! And I highly recommend Dr Ellenbogen to do it to anyone. So personable and friendly. Really cares about you.

My surgery was 12 years ago but Dr. Ellenbogen still stands out as providing excellent care after all this time. I remember his delightful bedside manner (rare in his field, I have to say). I only needed a decompression for Chiari 1 Malformation once at his hand. I know other patients who have seen other surgeons who have not been so lucky. Highly recommend Dr. Ellenbogen.

My daughter was born in 1992 with hydrocephalus encephalitis. We found out during an ultrasound at 31 weeks. She looked like she had w heads as this had skin and hair growing on it. So we dr9ve from Fort Bragg Nc to Walter Reed Washington dc for him to do her brain surgeries. We were told early on chances of a normal life would probably be slim to none by some. But not by him, he was so positive abd reassuring.Well my baby girl is going to be 27 next month March 12th. And done remarkably well. I would love nothing more than to reunite this amazing dr with one of his remarkable cases.Thank you and your staff for all you do.

Dr. Richard Ellenbogen is an excellent NEUROsurgeon, who is not to be confused with the cosmetic surgeon of the same last name.

Dr. Ellenbogen is amazing. I was blessed to meet and become a patient of Dr. Ellenbogen in 2006. He is a physician who doesn’t just look at images for results then leaves things left unresolved. He listens and cares about how and what you are feeling. I had already had 3 brain surgeries when I saw Dr. Ellenbogen. If he would have made his decision regarding my plan of care based on my CT scan and MRI, rather than my physical symptoms, then I believe I would not be here. He truly saved my life.Stephanie Hembroff
