My son was born in July of 2018. He received the standard hearing test shortly after he was born as most all newborns do. Dr. Erika Espino-Torres oversaw the newborn hearing department at Memorial Health Hospital at the time this service was provided to my son. Her name is the one that appears on the bill that gets sent out. Shortly after my son was born her billing department (Pediatrix Medical Group who receives payments at a mailing address in Chicago, IL) and who she hires to provide billing services, sent over the bill to Coresource, who was my insurance carrier at the time. Coresource offered an excellent insurance plan to me and they had a reputation in the area for being a great insurance provider. Coresource rejected the hearing bill claim because the incorrect code was sent over by her billing department. I was told there are only two codes for the newborn hearing test and the wrong one was initially sent over but if the correct one was sent, insurance would have paid the entire claim. Appeals were filed by both PMG and Coresource within 3 months after my son was born and then no further communication took place after October of 2018. Finally in September of 2019 PMG sent the correct code over to Coresource. I had no idea that any of this was taking place (why would I) until October 2019 when I received a bill in the mail from her billing department for $167.30 for the standard hearing test that my newborn son received in July of 2018. I spent at least 6 hours initially doing some investigative work by calling Memorial Health Hospital, speaking with the billing department, finding out who Dr. Erika Espino-Torres is (first time I ever saw that name was on the bill I received 15 mths after my son was born), and speaking with the Labor/Delivery Department. I even spoke with the man who performed the hearing test on my newborn son! I was given contacts for the Doctor in Florida who were account managers for her billing matters. I spoke with everyone. EVERYONE agreed that this hearing test should have been covered in its entirety by the insurance company and under the plan I had. I circled back with Coresource who said the bill should have been paid entirely by them but they did not receive the correct coding for the standard hearing test until 15 months after the service was provided. They only pay bills/claims up to 12 months after the service is provided. I contact PMG and inform them of what I found out. They put my account on hold and my file gets sent up to mgrs who agree they made an error. I never hear back from any of them until I get another bill in the mail and keep getting bills in the mail from them saying my account is past due and will be sent to collections. I was informed Coresource made a partial payment of $71.70 and since the original balance was $239.00, I was responsible for $167.30. Dr. Erika Espino-Torres billing department informed me they would take a % off the bill but that I would still be responsible for the remaining balance. I contacted her Admin, Kelly, who works out of a Savannah, GA office and explained the situation. She said she would take care of it, she understood and apologized. I never heard back from her. I kept getting bills in the mail from PMG. I have since been speaking to Dana at MHH who sent my file to another department in the hospital to be researched. I called Kelly again. I have called them both 2-3x and they return my voicemails but no one ever calls me back with an update. I am told to give them a few days or a week to look into it and then nothing. I have asked for an email address for the Dr. and am only provided with Kellys email/phone. If I were Dr. Espino-Torres, I would want to know my billing co. made an error, did own up to it, does understand why insurance is not paying 100% of the claim but still but still is holding her patient responsible for paying a balance that never should have been the responsibility of the patient had her billing co. sent the correct code over within 12 months of when the service was provided.

I second the previous poster. A charge of $239 for a five minute hearing test. The lady came in all nice saying that she needs to conduct a medical test & I was thinking this is through the hospital but they are a separate group. They are a bunch of thieves. Insurance only made an adjustment of $7.62 and the remaining amount due is $231.38. I asked the representative of this group to put my bill on hold while I speak to my insurance and settle the issue and she said no. Now I am going back and forth with my insurance to get this covered under my deductible. What a nightmare.

They came in after my sons was born, they didnt say this test was optional. They just did it. Now 2 months later we got this outrageous bill. 239 for literally 2 minutes of a test we didnt need.

Can I give zero stars? Do not use their service after the delivery of your baby! After the birth of our son we received multiple medical bills as expected. Each medical bill showed the list of charges, the insurance portion paid, the insurance discount and the patient portion. All were reasonable except for this. I received a $240 bill for a five minute hearing screening. The insurance paid $20 and the insurance discount was only $70. So, we ended up paying $150 for a five minute screening; CRAZY!!!!!!! By the way, we have great insurance! If our insurance was only willing to pay such a small portion of this bill, I have to agree this so called service is entirely over priced!! Do not agree to their hearing screening if you deliver your child at memorial hospital. Do not just take my word for it. Do a google search and you will see for yourself dozens of similar complaints from the same company. They are national, unfortunately!!!!
