How the mighty have fallen! A huge decline in quality of care, high turnover rate of doctors. Squarely driven by profit over quality of care. I know orthopedists arent exactly at the top of the medical intelligence scale, but this office is scraping the bottom of the barrel.Money grubbing.

Horrible doctors. All they care about is pushing you to make surgeries. On top of that their surgeons do a terrible job! Avoid and get some good care anywhere else.Surprised because I thought that since this is Santa Monica, the surgeons must be good. I guess thats the trick.

Worst experience ever. I’m in the walking-in clinic and they discourage you to look for their service since the first call. A patient is in pain but they don’t care at all. Filled out their paperwork, gave them insurance and ID and they still discourage you to go somewhere. Needless to say that I’m a patient of this group already! Horrible service...

I have had 17 reconstructive surgeries at SMOG between 1983-2014they have rebuilt my leg from a non-functioning limb into a LEG, so now I can do almost anythingthey are the best surgeons in L.A., but is the commitment to physical therapty that transformed meNot just the PT that is prescribed, but the extra-curricular workouts that I did on my ownive read some of these reviews. when you call hit the 0 on your phone.ask for the doctor who is looking after you.you may get voicemail, but every call has been returned within 24 hours.these people saved my life

Dr Ehrhart and team are fantastic. Just finished my second knee replacement and feel confident this will be as great as the first one, 4 years ago. Like a well oiled machine, Dr Ehrhart and team get the job done right. Would and have recommended them to my friends.

I am totally confused by the negative reviews posted here. I generally dont write reviews but was so impressed by the caliber of the care and staff i had to write one. I recently had an accident breaking both my hand and my ankle. I called the day after going to the emergency room and Dr. Kidd was able to see me that day and treat both my hand and my ankle which to me was pretty astounding. He got me out of the splints and into a walking boot and brace and my healing began. His staff is incredibly helpful -- returned calls, got me in when i needed for follow up etc. I am not an easy patient and i had several issues along the way. Rashekah (sp?) was incredibly helpful and when i reinjured my ankle got me in immediately. Dr. Kidd was great -- spent time answering my questions and watching me have a melt down -- listened and responded to what i needed. Randi, one of their cast techs, is a master at casting and care. When i had to go into a cast for my hand which was slow to heal she was incredibly understanding and kind. when i started hyper ventilating having a cast on my hand, she helped me through it enabling me to keep the cast on for two weeks and let my hand heal. I was met with nothing but kindness and care.there were a couple of communication glitches but its up to me to make sure im understood and get what i need. I love the texting feature for appointments and communication -- I could call and text. God knows i dont always respond to calls immediately and if i didnt hear back i would call or text and get a response.Going back a couple of years i saw Dr Knapp for a shoulder issue and he and his staff were equally attentive and responsive.I hope im done with broken bones - 5 in 6 months, but i would definitely return here if injured again. Didnt give them 5 stars because that would be perfection and no one is perfect. definitely recommend!!!

Unfortunately I didnt read any reviews before I went to this medical practice. The procedure here is for the patient not to see a doctor but to see a Physicians Assistant. Because my knee was in bad pain, I let myself be examined by a Physicians Assistant. It was the fastest, and worst orthopedic exam that I ever had. Before even seeing me and knowing what I would need, they did a series of knee x-rays and performed an MRI (can you say money mill?). The PA asked me twice to extend my leg, which I was unable to do even after the first time but insisted I do it and made me try again. He then pressed on a few places on my knee but wasnt interest to hear where else the pain extended to. He said I tore my patella. He said a brace would help me and that was that. I have an appointment to have a follow up with a real Orthopedist next week at their office, so he can explain to me the diagnosis. I of course will not go but will go to see a different orthopedist. When I called the office today to complain about the horrible physical exam I got and no follow up instructions, I was given a very hard time. The receptionist kept calling the PA a physician and I corrected her a number of times and said a PA is not a PHysician. Who is the manager? Who is his boss? She had the gall to tell me that he works independently and doesnt work for any doctor in the office. Well, that is illegal because by law PAs must work under the supervision of a doctor. The PA gave me no follow up instructions as to the care of my knee. When I called today, the receptionist said- well you got a brace and that is the treatment. Im glad she thinks that she is a doctor also.Do not go to this office. It is a money mill and you will get very bad treatment. According to the receptionist there is not one person in the office who I could lodge my complaint with about the terrible medical service that I received. Stay away.

Dr. Bert Mandelbaum came highly recommended, but I didnt have PPO insurance at the time - only Kaiser HMO.I went to Dr. Bert Mandelbaum for his opinion on arthritis, success rates, grafting options and opinions for ACL reconstruction. He spoke down to me at 1st and treated me as if I was a child - which is fine. Hes probably used to regular patients who dont study up. He seemed hell bent on using a cadaver allograft, which Ive heard good and bad about. He referred me to Dr. Tadashi Funahashi, the Chief Orthopedic Surgeon @ Kaiser Permente Orange County.I eventually had my surgery with Dr. Funahashi @ Kaiser and had top notch care and rehab. Im 10 years out of surgery and my knee is awesome. No signs of any arthritis or misalignment. Knee is tight yet flexible - just about equal to the other knee. I used my own patella tendon graft. One thing you gotta know about Dr. Mandelbaum: He is hell bent on using Cadaver grafts and will sell you on the idea, but there are a LOT of doctors who have different opinions about the whole thing, and they made more sense to me. Being that these grafts are some of the last things to be taken out of a cadaver, the irradiation process weakens them, and theres actually no difference between a good surgeon using your own kneecap or a cadaver. Your kneecap defect actually grows back if they sew it back up right.Santa Monica Orthopedic Group (0/5):Going back to my problems with Santa Monica Orthopedic group is their billing department - these guys are SHADY! Maybe even crooks. I had called and told them that I just wanted a consultation with Dr. Mandelbaum to pick his brain about this proceedure. They told me the price was $150-300. Anything over $150 is already steep - just to talk to the doctor for 10 minutes. My bill comes to me a few months later: $450 dollars.....just to talk to the Doctor. I call up their billing department and ask why the charge is $450. No real answer. Just that it is. I ask for them to send me a price sheet. They should have something like this listed. A break down of prices for services/time. They dont have a charge sheet and refuse to send me any paper work other than the bill with only 1 number: $450.I scream and rant with the douchebag in billing over the phone. I get them down to $320 and Im emotional/physically drained. If I didnt live in Orange County, I would have driven right over and made a huge scene at their office.I paid the amount, but I feel that it was overly steep for the service provided, is shady and had no basis, and this offices billing is a good example of why Healthcare costs are so high in this country. Its such a shady business. It has been a few years now, but I have found out that this clinic did violate codes by doing what they did to me:CA Health & Safety Code 1339.56. AB 1045- Requires that hospitals disclose prices for the top 25 most common outpatient services or procedures, and requires, upon request, a person to be provided with a written estimate of charges for the health care services that are reasonably expected to be provided and billed to the person if the person does not have health coverage. (Signed into law by governor on 10/5/05 as Chapter 532, Statutes of 2005.)CA Health & Safety Code 1339.585- Upon the request of a person without health coverage, a hospital shall provide the person with a written estimate of the amount the hospital will require the person to pay for the health care services, procedures, and supplies that are reasonably expected to be provided to the person by the hospital, based upon an average length of stay and services provided for the persons diagnosis. (Signed law 2004.)

Cannot even schedule an appointment. nothing but voicemail ALL DAY. I was told they are open tues and thurs. I have a child who needs a fracture properly tended too. Unfortunately EVERY ortho office I have called, Kerlan Jobe, Childrens Hospital....they ALL are impossible to schedule an appointment with! either on hold for over 40 mins, then give up, or told to leave a message and someone will get back to you! I would have better luck getting through to the IRS! What kind of care can they possible give if they cannot even return a phone call after 4 days, or have an answering machine on all day? what is it a home office?? No option to give zero stars, or I would have not even clicked one star
