I took my 12 year old daughter here to get braids before school started. The stylist was wonderful. I believe her name was Ndeye. She communicated which type of hair to get for which style, and as she was working she kept checking in to make sure it was the style/look that we wanted. My daughter had a hard time with brushing since I didn’t have time to wash before our appointment, and it started to get really painful. However, the stylist was very comforting to her, and asked her about her interests in a motherly way. Overall, we are very pleased with the braids, and would recommend!

I really wish I was able to write a good review on this salon but I cant. I got my hair done a little over a week ago, I supposedly got micro single braids and its already getting frizzy. After I left the salon, I noticed that some of my hair is braided like how you would start a cornrow so they basically braided my hair in mini cornrows and in the front single micros. I dont like that because it seems to me like they were trying to get over. I really wanted to like them but that type of service is unexceptable.

I would totally return here to get my hair braided! The braids are very neat and secure. Love it!!!! This was a last minute choice for me. When I called, I was told it would take 4 hours for the style I wanted and that was an accurate estimate. The salon is clean, feels safe and has tons of free parking options. I also appreciated Koumba’s advice on how to keep my edges from falling out in light of the style options I was considering. The ladies here are warm and friendly. They have a TV with streaming options and I was able to pick a show while my hair was being braided. The pricing was reasonable.

I got a partial sew in today and i absolutely LOVE IT!!! I am beyond happy with how everything turned out. It looks super natural and is exactly how i wanted it to be. I havent had a sew in done or a weave for a long time and didnt know anyone in the area, so after doing some research I came across Koumba and Im so glad I did. Her prices are very reasonable and usually with more than 1 person working on our hair were not there as long as you normally would be when getting your hair braided. I got medium size box braids from Koumba. She was very professional and down to earth. I reached out to her for a last minute appointment; initially she didn’t have an opening but one of her other clients pushed their appointment back and she called me back and took me for a same day appointment. I believe her price was fair for San Diego, the quality of her work and the time she took to finish my hair. My hair was finished in just under 5 hours. It didn’t feel like 5 hours because the atmosphere was very comfortable and clean. We also had good conversation. I’ll add pictures later... overall I definitely recommend Koumba.

Koumba has been doing my hair for over 8 yrs now and all I can say is she is the best.. she knows her job. She is very respectful and knows how to talk to people. Her shop is very clean and big. She will do exactly the style u want her to do to ur hair.. she is the best in San Diego. I promise if u wanna do any type of braiding, weave, twist and all, go to her shop. You won’t regret it. I drove up from Yuma 2 weeks ago, unannounced & with no appointment...Koumba personally got out of her bed, showed up and did an amazing job braiding my hair..The shop was clean, the atmosphere was relaxing & this young lady is a master at her craft.I wouldnt hesitate to take a plane, train or automobile anywhere these ladies set up shop.The price was fair and my hair still looks awesome. Some shops wont even entertain the idea of braiding a guys hair especially without an appointment.Im beyond impressed.. Blessings Ladies LP

Ive been using Koumba hair braiding for years and have never had a bad experience . All are very polite and do good work. Braids ,weave what ever you desire they work fast and do a good job. And are flexible in work on your frame. I live over an hour away but its worth the drive. ....Koumba always do my hair....thats my girl

Koumba has been my GO TO stylist/braider since 2008. In the many years that she has been braiding my hair, I have requested a number of different styles (sew ins, braids, twists, cornrows, etc.) and I have loved each and every one. She is fast, reasonably priced, and will make almost any time slot work for her schedule. I am an incredibly picky client, that just for fun has 4c natural hair that breaks off very easily and I am tender “headed”. Koumba has miraculously managed to keep my hair on my head and me coming back to her chair. Which says a lot based on the fact that I now live 2.5 hours away!

This is my first time visiting Koumba and Ill always return here. Koumba and her family work really fast and they do a marvelous job. I got individual braids (pencil width) done in 4.5 hours. The shop is clean, there is ample parking, and great conversation in the room. Ill definitely be back for a touch-up and more braids.

I was looking for a new braiding salon after relocating back to SD from LA. I found Khoumba on line and saw that she had wonderful reviews. Very friendly and clean salon. Everyone is very nice. Marci braided my hair. 3 rows of cornrows done neatly and perfect. I love it. It literally lasts for 2 months. They are amazing at what they do. Show them t a pic of the style you are looking for and they will re-create it. Very accommodating. I wouldn’t go anywhere else.

Hello to all, I would just like to put out there that we enjoy doing hair very much. We appreciate the amazing reviews we have received, and the constructive criticism as well. Some of these reviews were false and I have not had them as clients before. But I appreciate the competition because it increases our motivation.We never did Courtney Johnsons hair and we never take 10 hours to do hair. Its a maximum of 5 hours in the shop because two people do hair most of the time.

I received box braids back in March. They did an AMAZING JOB! I loved them so much. Im pregnant and they worked with me. They are very kind. It didnt take long at all. Pain was at an all time low. I made an appt a week ago with Koumba for me to get my hair done today August 1st 2019 at 9am.. her shop did not open up . I waited for 20 minutes and no show of her .. I’ve called and texted her several times but no response back. I’m very disappointed that I showed up for nothing. For a person who owns a business should be prompt.. I’ve never been to a shop before so I wanted to try it since I can’t find anyone to really do my hair that doesn’t lag. I read the reviews, and saw that they were good so I gave Koumba a call.. what I experienced today was unacceptable in my book.. those of you who gave good reviews must have lied to make her self look good ... I never did get my hair done!! I went there for nothing, she messed up my sleep and my day. I will never go back to that shop.

I’ve been going to Koumba since I moved to San Diego. Be it braids, twists or cornrows, I’m always very satisfied with my hair when I leave. I always get compliments as well as give referrals because people recognize quality work. Koumba and her sisters are very attentive to detail, and they work hard to make sure your hair is beautiful and not too tight when you leave. The new salon is clean and comfortable with plenty of parking, and there is a tv with access to tons of movies and tv shows for your entertainment while you’re getting your hair braided. If you’re looking for gorgeous hair at a reasonable price then this is the place to be!

Just got a touch up here and will NEVER ever go back. First of all I didnt know her sister was doing my hair and that should be disclosed. Second of all they both were on the phone a lot which is unprofessional. The house was over 90 degrees which was uncomfortable and Koumba made a rude comment which I didnt appreciate. Above all, once I got home the back of my touch up was horribly tacky looking. My front looks completely different and the back has much bigger squares which I specifically told them I dont want. HOW dishonest! She didnt know how to dip my hair and it looks bushy so now Ill have to re-dip it. She told me my braids were micro which they arent and my touch up is 90.00. It definitely wasnt worth sitting there for 6 hours. I will ever come back here and advise anyone else not to either. Total waste of money and Im really unhappy with the whole ordeal.

Never even went to get my hair done yet and she was so rude!! Their hours say they close at 11PM but whenever I try to schedule an appointment around 9PM, she continuously asks if I can come in now or to schedule earlier. I will never step foot in this shop, shes so inconsiderate and some many bad reviews on yelp and other sites.

I got my hair braided here this past Saturday im guessing the owner is koumba. she is very professional she make sure that your experience is good and your hair is what u want it to be, she makes you feel welcomed. only thing I will say that I wish was better is I had two of her assistance working on my hair and the 1st one who did the back of my hair was fine she didnt give me no attitude she let me ask all the questions that I wanted to but the second assistant that did the front part of my hair kind of came off to me like she had an attitude she seem like she didnt like me asking any questions overall it just seem like she was getting annoyed and I feel like if Im paying you and this is your job you shouldnt be giving any attitude but they did a good job on my hair i been getting compliments.

Today was my first time at this shop and everything went well but I dont like my hair that much. The ladies were professional and very polite, shop was clean and they play good english speaking movies on their t.v. while getting your hair done. When I arrived to my appt. they immediately started my hair. I rated this a three because if I was back home in Chicago, IL the ladies wouldve perfected the hairstyle of choice. After I paid for my hair she decided to tell me they charge for the hair. Overall my braids are very neat but lacks the fullness I was expecting. I will not be returning to this shop.

Staff is very friendly and professional Ive getting my hair done here for a while even before they were at this location and I have never once seen koumba or any one else ever even appearing to have a bad day. I love what Koumba does with my hair, she does an excellent job and has great customer service skills. She is my go to person when it comes to hair braiding.

If I could give Koumba Braiding a 0 or negative score I would. I went there naively just thinking that it would be like any other braiding experience. It was horrible. Koumba did not end up doing my hair, one of her assistants did and it was one of the most painful, most horrific experiences of my life. She used a sharp, pointed metal object and dug it into my scalp every time she made a part, so you can imagine how horrible that was. Even after I told her to stop digging the metal tool into my scalp, she would not stop. Then she twisted my braids so tight that the pain was unbearable. I asked her to stop making them so tight. She stop for a while and then she continued making them tight. It was literally intentional physical abuse for five hours. I was not wise to continue getting the braids or allow that to happen for that long but honestly, I should not have been treated that way at all. I have gone to an African American braider and had the complete opposite experience, so I had no reason to think that someone, African or not, would do that to me. I do not reccommend Koumba Hair Braiding. In fact, I reccommend that you run in the opposite direction. I reccommend going to an African American braider because they are usually nicer, more professional and not physically abusive like the mean African Hair Braiders.
