Ive had Dr. Suma Shah as my doctor previously at the Durham location and she was both attentive and very helpful. I moved and have since been seen by Dr. Baker in Raleigh and also received the same great care that Ive come to experience from Duke specialists. I feel very fortunate and thankful for my treatment!!!

Wow, started reading reviews and I now know I’m not the only one who has had problems. Nursing staff does not return calls. Horrible, what’s the point of having the voicemail? Took a week for my autistic son to get a new prescription. Meanwhile, he has had two seizures. And called to speak to the office manager ( twice) no return call. We WILL be looking for a new doctors office. Good doctor horrible staff.

I have been seeing Dr. Pietak and he has been amazing. Him and the Duke Neurology team have been very responsive and helpful in ensuring appointments are made in a timely manner, questions are throughly answered and concerns/fears quickly addressed. I would recommend both Dr. Pietak and Duke Neurology to anyone in need of a neurologist.

If you care about your health, please dont go to Duke Neurology. I came here because of my horrible experience at Raleigh Neurology, but this was no better at all. Long story short, I was misdiagnosed yet again. He didnt know how to read Xrays. Very disheartening experiences from both offices.

Went to their urgent care, was referred to here for a medical emegency. Made me wait 3 months and 5 days before my appointment they told me THEIR OWN REFERAL WAS THE PROBLEM. Then proceed to tell me to wait another 3 months. Someone needs to be fired. Wont even bother ever trying to come here again. Even if im ion the verge of death. Take me somewhere else.

Paper work fell through cracks, unprofesional doctors and staff and a 3 month wait time for a medical emergency that they told me their own referral from Duke Urgent Care in Knightsdale was the problem. They blame THEIR OWN other buildings and asked me to wait another 3 months. DONT GO HERE

How aggravating can it be when you are an established patient and call in with acute low back pain and the receptionist doesn’t give two hoots and gives an appointment for April 21. You then leave a message for the nurse to call and never get ac call from even the nurse. Extremely disappointed and that tells me the practice does not care about their patients

Update: last week I met with Dr Wasim for the first time. She was so very helpful and listened to every little concern I had. Even better, shes gotten me authorized to try a brand new medication for my debilitating migraines, with an excellent success rate. I also want to mention that the office staff, the nurses in particular, seem to have improved quite a bit! I have not had any issues with them for several months now.First of all, I should point out that I think Dr. Paul Peterson is a great doctor... Hes never in a rush, is very thorough, and willing to try new ideas. However, the office staff (possibly the nurses??) has definitely gone downhill. Every month I run into issues with the prescription refill they send in for me. Also, a few weeks ago I called the office because Id had a severe migraine for several days that wasnt responding to medication. The PA (I believe) told me that if it was urgent, I should go to Urgent Care, and that was it. This is strange to me since Urgent Care would probably question why Im there since I have a neurologist. Previous neurologists have either called and talked to me about what I had already tried to alleviate the pain and/or fit me in to visit them within the next day or two. It was just so frustrating and I felt like I just had to wait it out!

I made a review a year ago, with the same problem. I messaged Dr.Wasim to refill my mothers medications. No response. I called the physicians after hours because they were closed and told the doctor on call the situation. He got all my mothers information and said someone will call the next day.No one did. Then I get an email from Walgreens saying that 1 of 2 of her medications is ready and of course its not the medications she need! I am in the process of finding a new neurologist. No one cares. Its sad honestly. I should not have to go through this BS to get her medication! And they are not even trying to pretend not to care. They simply dont

Love the Drs. here. They have been great, kind and attentive. Office administration is horrible. They do not reply to appointment requests through mychart. If you call, they have the nerve to have an attitude when you explain to them you have been trying to make an appt without luck. They need to get their office personnel right.

Shirley a nurse there is TERRIBLE! She doesnt return phone calls from my physician or myself. I asked to speak with a manager and was assured it was isolated only for it to happen again. I left a practice I liked because of nurses lising my referral paperwork and a nurse never returning phone calls.

Apparently a possible brain anuerysm means nothing to these people. I am an anuerysm survivor. I went in the other day because I am having similar symptoms from the last one. Because of my history Im supposed to have an angiogram Friday. I saw them Tuesday. They were supposed to call me with a time for Friday. It is now 6:30 on Thursday night. Still waiting. 9:30 and still have not heard from you. PLEASE DO NOT LET ME DIE

Id been going to this practice for 13 years & I loved my neurologist, but he left the practice & moved out of state. Everything the others are saying about the nurses is true. My prescriptions are done wrong nearly every time. Since my Neuro was leaving he said to get established with another neuro. I said I would make an appt with another dr in the practice. And I did. In June. For October. I asked if I would have any problems getting refills until then. He said there is a defined mechanism for this. Of course no one returned my emails sent through Duke My Chart for 3 weeks. So as he suggested before he left should I have trouble,I called the practice manager who had someone in administration call me back. She told me quite unemphathetically that the dr that I had an appt with for 2&1/2 months was not comfortable prescribing the medication I had been on for 13 years for Narcolepsy so they were going to make a referral to another dr and give me 30 days of meds. Do you know of anybody whos referral and contact and appt happened in 30 days? Without these meds I am asleep. They give me some semblance of a life. But now its good bye and good luck. I have spine surgery in exactly 4 weeks and I;m supposed to find a new neurologist. If this isnt malpractice, it is certainly unethical and bad behavior to cut me loose when there is no certainty I will have continuing care. Appalling! This could happen to you. Just dont go there. Duke Medicine doesnt care about you.

Used to be good years agoDr Paul Peterson is the worst neurologist I have ever seen. He does not think outside of the box, doesn’t do his job efficiently, has no time for his patients other than collecting the money Will not do any sort of additional paperwork if needed. Also, does not do peer to peer calls

Receptionist didnt seem to know what they were doing. i had to have a referral sent over twice. then i called at least three times before someone told me it wasnt put in there system right. they didnt even have the full referral put in! i FINALLY got a call saying i can schedule an appointment after 3 weeks of calling them evem though they said theyd get in contact with me and never did. then the appointments next available was a YEAR away! literally july of next year!! they said i can be put on a cancelation list but id probably only be notified one day in advance! i have a life i cant just drop everything IF i even get an appt before the year away appointment are you serious?! then i asked why and shes said thats just how it is. like could they be any more rude?! glad i got my referral changed! this is ridiculous!

Horrible. I gave this office 2 years of chances. My paperwork fell through the cracks MULTIPLE times. The first time, I thought maybe it was an isolated incident; sometimes these things happen. After 2 years, I now realize it is a habitual occurrence and they just have an UNRELIABLE office. 2 years of unreturned phone calls, paperwork missing, paperwork not being properly filled out, prior authorizations going MONTHS without being filed, waiting MONTHS for prescription authorizations to be sent to insurance and approved, not being informed/left in the dark, being apologized to way too many times for their lapses, having to wait way too long to be seen. I AM DONE WITH THIS PRACTICE! I have medication that I had to wait 18 months to start, not because of my insurance --but because of INCOMPETENT DUKE NUEROLOGY STAFF not filing the proper paperwork!Another prescription I waited 2 months, had to call continuously with no response, just to be told it fell through the cracks, so sorry I had to go in and physically watch the fax be sent just to make sure the authorization/prescription was filled out, filed, & faxed. That means I waited 2 months from when the doctor wrote the script, to it even being sent to the the insurance for approval, who knows how much longer I will have to wait to actually get the meds. This is not an insurance issue, it is the staff physically not even sending the prescription authorization papers to the insurance!!! I asked why this is a continuous issue, was told whoever was supposed to do the paperwork left the office, is no longer with us I told them that was the same excuse I was given the first time this happened. It seems like their go-to excuse. If staff quits/leaves, that doesnt mean paperwork should just go missing or not be filed --- multiple different times, over an extended time period!!! I shouldnt have to wait for proper medical care and go without medication, unable to work and support myself just due to a lazy staff/unorganized office/papers not being handled in a timely manner. These are peoples lives they are messing up!

This office is becoming more unreliable by the minute. I talked my husband into changing practices because it was awesome that this location has an epilepsy specialist. Now, it is too late to switch because that will break is plan of care and it is hard to find good ones these days. So my husband is on a titration schedule as he weans off one type of meds to another. Well, Whenever he has a question about something it takes forever and a day for them to get back to us. It has been almost week since my husband has drawn blood to see if has enough meds in his system and if he needs to titrate a little more or less but nobody has responded as of yet. We’ve called several times and checked DukeMyChart and nothing. Horrible response times. There was a time the pharmacist was so generous to give him a few of his meds to tide him over until they hear from the Nurse. They are not good about sending off prescriptions either. It is not the doctor, it is the nurse for the doctors that are not following through promptly with the emails and phone calls. They encourage to send messages through DukeMy Chart but what good is it if it takes a week to respond? This is very serious because people need answers especially for very serious conditions. It is reasonable to expect a day or two to respond, but a week? Absolutely not. We left a smaller yet professional practice because at the time the staff was very rude. But now they’re doing better. I wish we could go back but as mentioned earlier, it would break his care plan at the moment. When he gets straightened out with his medicine and everything is all good with that, we will consider returning to the previous practice. It’s absolutely absurd to have to wait so long to see what he needs to do about his medicine.

While it is a good neurology practice, office is dysfunctional in terms of scheduling and things fall through the cracks. If you get put on the wait list, you may have to wait months to be called.

I scheduled an appointment for February 13th in early December. Today I receive a phone call to reschedule the appointment due to the doctor being out of town. Scheduling said oh the first appointment I have is March 20th. Well it is an inconvenience for me to have my appointment changed to a month later.
