We have a family member transferred to this facility supposedly. We are told it’s up to our family member to reach out to us in order to talk to him. We don’t even know if he arrived safely. We have not heard a word from our family member since his supposed transfer from Wake Med. Wake Med would not tell us where they took him. We are assuming this is where he is as this was the plan. No one will confirm this for us. We do not know if he is there. If he is sedated. If he knows we care. It’s like something out of a scary movie. What can anyone out there recommend?

I was a patient in the young adult(14-17) female ward and i just have to say the staff was very unprofessional and rude. I was cussed out, called names, ignored and bullyed by the mental health technicians. They made all of us uncomfortable and upset. Specifically mr. Darnell and the other young male tech i had. They misgendered and deadnamed people constantly, they kept us up at night by playing loud videos and talking, they were generally creepy towards us. I was there for 7 days and on the 6th day i finally got to go outside for a hour but other then that they didnt let us go outside. It was like none of the techs had any training. For the majority of the day all 25 or so kids sat in the day room and did nothing and i mean nothing. We didnt really get therapy and in fact i only saw a therapist 2 times in the seven days i was there. The dude doctor did nothing for me and was useless. It took them hours just to give me some pain pillsand we only get to talk on the phone for 10 minutes or so a day. It was a awful experiance and i would never recomend it to ANYONE.

A family member is currently in Holly Hill on an IVC (involuntary commitment order) of a non-violent nature. He was transferred from another hospital to Holly Hill on 7/21 and placed in a holding room until a bed was available in the Adult Inpatient Mental Health Unit. During that time, he described two separate encounters where he was almost attacked. The first, was by two men because he was sitting in their seat. Apparently every seat in the common area was their seat. The second was by as a woman. He said this encounter was solely based on politics. Let me clarify that my family member is a large formidable man, a retired service member even (USMC) - he does NOT scare easily. He says he was genuinely frightened for his safety in both of these situations, and that staff members appeared not to notice either of them as they were occurring, even though they present and observed both (with eyes and ears). He is in the Adult Ward now, and they have added an additional medication to his existing cocktail. The first time I spoke to him was on 7/24, 3 days after his admission (I had no clue where he was prior to his call). He sounded sedated, and let me know that he would like to be transferred to another facility. His comment prompted me to look up Holly Hills track record-- folks, its FRIGHTENING!!

Wanted to leave a more positive review from my experience in 2019.I was admitted into the young adult unit(whatever it’s called). I remember before going in one of the ladies said “you’re going to the fun unit” and I was like…..fun? My experience at Holly Hill was honestly one of the most unforgettable experiences. Not gonna lie- a lot of the tech’s are a little incompetent and a few nurses were very rude, but the people I was there with made it much better along with just having a break from reality when I needed it the most. The doctor there prescribed us all with the same thing and the same diagnosis and when I was complaining about it to the other patients, one of the younger preppy girl techs said “sorry you don’t get your own special diagnosis”. Isn’t that…..the point? A doctor also came in while I was sleeping one night and told me I had lymphoma after another doc had taken a look at a golf ball sized lymph node in my neck. This man woke me up and told me I had CANCER. They took me to the ER, and another huge hospital bill later…I only had mono.Sooo, not the brightest employees, but it doesn’t seem like it takes much to work there as a tech either. I still really valued my experience here and would likely return if I ever needed that level of treatment again.

I am very disappointed in the staff at Holly Hill Hospital in Raleigh, N.C. I have been looking at various positions since early summer. I had applied for the Mental Health Technician. I had got an invitation to interview by Alice Parker. She asked if a particular day that week would work and I replied with a yes. She did not follow up with time, location, whom I would be meeting etc. There was no more communication after that. Fast forward, I had saw a few other positions that were closely aligned with my experience and passion so I went ahead and applied anyway. I try to give everyone a second chance. By my surprise, I got a phone call today from Dr. Frank Addonizio, Chief Clinical Officer. Unfortunately it was not pleasant and quite unprofessional, in my opinion. He called to advise me not to apply to anymore positions since I have applied to multiple already. I did not know there was a limit to how many positions a potential candidate could apply for and consider. He then proceeded to say not to reach out to anyone else to follow-up and they believe that I am doing too much. I have NEVER had an employer call me, mid-week, mid-day and tell me not to apply for anymore positions at their organization or to reach out anymore. It was tasteless and unprofessional. With that being said, I will NEVER consider Holly Hill Hospital as an potential employer. I did not deserve that treatment and I hope no one else has this experience.

DO NOT SEEK HELP FROM HERE!!! I am a Mobile Crisis Responder in NC. I suggested my client contact Holly Hill to confirm if they accept individuals without insurance from clients county. Since this hospital is state contracted with state funding, I was pretty sure they are able to serve people from mostly all NC. The female staff who answered phone reported they accept state funding, but cant admit given county. My client asked her to speak to Mobile Crisis for more clarification, and staff screamed at my client who was calling for help, No I dont want to talk to Mobile Crisis and hung up on my client. This not only made my client feel worse and start crying, but what a lack of professionalism demonstrated to another mental health service provider. I would not trust what else the employees do here just by this one incident, and will never refer another client to this facility again. Any mental health agency who allows this way of communication to talk to potential clients, should not be open. I called later and confirmed that the information my client was given was incorrect and that they actually do accept individuals from the given county. Unbelievable.

I feel like there is a lack of support for patients who are in crisis when it comes to billing and insurance. How can a patient who is admitted involuntarily be expected to have a wallet or insurance card and be expected to complete paperwork without assistance? How come the patient’s insurance information wasn’t transferred from the referring ER? How can someone who doesn’t even know their own name be expected to represent themselves? Maybe this is the case at most mental health facilities, but I feel like Holly Hills did not perform their due diligence when admitting the patient, leaving the patient with a bill of over $10,000 to pay out of pocket.

My daughter was admitted to this facility on her own accord last week. We, as parents, were very weary about her voluntary commitment to the facility. However, we assumed that as a medical facility for adolescents she would be treated with dignity and respect. That being said, she has severe bilateral hearing loss and was not able to communicate with us throughout her time there. As parents, we made sure that the nurses on call and the staff were aware that this disability would make it hard to communicate with our daughter after the first day. We asked for a phone that we could communicate with her. At home, she speaks either on a speakerphone or with headphones. The reason being is if she speaks on a phone with an earpiece her hearing aids feed back, and she is unable to hear. The times that we spoke to her on the phone were full of rhetoric such as “I can’t hear you, Can you speak louder. What, what”. There was a complete and total failure on the part of the staff to accommodate for her needs. In speaking with the nurses and staff available they assured us that they would accommodate for her disability by finding a way for her to communicate with us. There was one time during her stay and during calling hours when she was able to hear us. One of the staff members or nurses gave her a phone and allowed her to call in a space where background noise was at a minimum. This was day three. Day four, five, and six were no better than days one and two. Thankfully, day six was her discharge day.On day six, we were informed that one of her hearing aids were either lost, misplaced, or stolen. As a medically necessary device, she is not functioning at one hundred percent due to the fact that she can not hear what is going on around her.The earliest appointment that we could get is June 7th. She will be unaided for the next two weeks and most likely a month after that. In the past 13 years we have not misplaced or lost her devices.

I would not advise anyone to work at this organization, unless, you have absolutely NO OTHER options. Save yourself from the unnecessary drama/headache. You will NOT have HR as support, as the HR director has befriended many of the directors. There were several complaints made (HR, CEO, CFO, and Corporate) all were aware of the events that transpired, no one seemed to care. Nothing was done about the numerous complaints, the director was able to continue with her antics. The person I worked under was a very dishonest and deceitful person. She did everything she could to turn her staff against each other (on some occasions she succeeded). She displayed a great deal of favoritism. She was also a nitpicker. If you have any integrity this would not be the organization for you. However, if you have a lack of integrity complete your application today, you’ll fit right in. HHH says its goal is to provide support to patients and their families, in an effort to get them back to their communities healthier and happier. Yet, they cause so much strife for their employees. Imagine how the lack of support and creating confusion for the employees triggers down to the patients. While the “talk game” may be superb the actions are deplorable. So much of what we call management consists of making it difficult for people to work.

This system is so so broken. I was IVC for depression and spent almost a week. I spent 9 mins total with a doctor. She. Hong who is arrogant, has an extreme lack of empathy, condescending and overall just not a nice person. Took him 1 hour to evaluate 16 people. The wars I was in was understaffed (by some great people-trying to do there job). The facility was dirty and the ward had several episodes of violent behavior. Tables flipped, chairs thrown, attempted TV being ripped from the wall. I genuinely was traumatized. Not once was my insurance information requested. 14.5 hours to be checked in and moved to a room. Violence and fights in the waiting room for check in. Please stay away. Seek private care. It makes me sad for people that are in desperate need of help. I am one of the lucky ones because I have family and support. Just please don’t blame the kind staff for the broken system. Makes me feel bad for them.Just stay away.

And some more information that I requested she actually took the time to help me and my wife she calmed us down and I really appreciate her for that she needs a role in administration because it seems to me she knows this place in and out. Not one time did she yell at me speak in a hostile voice or get frustrated when I tried to explain to her my frustrations and kept asking the same questions over and over. Either you stick to your regulations or you assist in helping family provide support. There’s an infinite amount of medication out there to treat Schizophrenia because each person is different. So tell me why they give the same medication over and over and feed the patients sugary beverages and food? Mental disorders are affected by over-stimulation of the brain hence why high amounts of sugar increases episodes. So these patience are held there for their illness and never truly get treated. They end back up there. The doctor only visits once a week for a short period of time.

My 26 yr old son was transferred to this facility from local hospital. We received little to no info about this place. I did not feel very reassured after reading the reviews. I have made several phone calls to this place and it does not seem very organized. On two occasions, they could not even locate my son (and this was the first day!) I called on day two to speak to the so called Director of the Facility, Dr. Enrique Lopez. He told me he was not assigned to my son so he wanted me to call back and ask for the social worker. As Director, I believe he answers for ALL patients there, regardless of whether he is assigned to them or not. IF he is in fact, NOT the Director, as it states on the website, they need to correct the website. It is misleading. I stated I also had some general questions about the facility & he referred me to Administration. He could not even transfer me! He was already on the phone with me & again, as the Director he should have gone ahead & addressed my questions. He was pleasant enough, but not reassuring to someone who has NEVER dealt with this facility. Again, I got no good vibes from this place. My son has gone there voluntarily and having done some research I dont feel this is the best place for him. On day one it took him over 7 hours just to get his room! And, I had to call just to find out if he made it there ok. Living 2 hours away, anything could have happened along the way, like an accident. A timely phone call just to say he arrived would have been appreciated upon his arrival. He stated there was constant yelling (which I overheard on the phone) and people wanting to fight. Also, not reassuring. Left me wondering what kind of facility is this? Needless to say I have found a better place for him & going to remove him from here. I cannot say I would EVER recommend this place. I cannot say anything about the therapy, counselors or other staff because I am not waiting that long to find out. My initial experience with this facility has not been positive and I believe it trickles down from the top. Got the feeling they are not on the up and up. Wish I personally knew someone who could have given me an honest, accurate review of this place.

Elizabeth, an RN, is the only reason it isnt getting one star. She literally saved my life. I am an addict. I freely admit that. As usual, other patients helped me cope with my detox more than the staff. The social worker (I forget her name) assigned to me was awesome....she was dead set on getting me home for Christmas. However, I am currently in a position to lose my job, because FMLA paperwork was never submitted. That was December 24. It is now January 8. Upon their recommendation, I went to a facility in Va, which worked as well as a wet frog hair in a Phillips head screw.

The staff was very professional and as courteous as possible much better than I had ever expected. I hate to say that the food was not that great or diverse, though I was eventually able to get meals that I was comfortable eating. I was encouraged to help myself and others in the group I was in. I felt safe for the most part with the exception of some of the other patients. A few more minutes of sweeping would help a great deal. I would suggest hiring another custodian to be able to spend more time on cleaning rooms and floors. The staff was very sensitive and open to my language, cultural and spiritual needs. The groups were very helpful and I enjoyed them. A patient satisfaction survey on the website would be a nice touch. I had input into my treatment plans. I was very satisfied with the unit/program staff. I was satisfied with my physician; she was very smart and attentive to my situation and needs and I appreciate her working with me on my medication. I was treated with dignity and respect by all the staff and I am very impressed. I do feel better now than when I was admitted. I understood what my medications do and why/how I should take them. I was satisfied with my treatment. I would recommend this facility to someone needing treatment, but keep in mind, this is the only facility I have visited.

WORST PLACE I HAVE EVER BEEN IN MY LIFE.I was sent here against my will and tried to call to make a payment plan. AFTER insurance I was still billed almost $3000.00. When I called to make a payment plan they only offered me the option to pay in full or in a 3 month plan of $900.00 each month. DO YOU REALLY THINK THAT THE AVERAGE AMERICAN CAN SPEND THIS EVERY MONTH ON YOUR ONE BILL???? THEY WILL TRY TO ROB YOU OF YOUR MONEY. DO NOT GO HERE!!!! THEY WILL GIVE YOU NO OPTION OTHER THAN FOR IT TO GO TO COLLECTIONS if you arent a millionaire. I GOT NOTHING OUT OF THE EXPERIENCE FROM GOING THERE AND NO HELP. Since you gave me no option for trying to make a realistic payment plan you will get none of my money. GOOD LUCK GETTING MONEY FROM ANYONE.

This program has been so helpful in building my toolbox to work through depression and anxiety. I have done individual therapy before but never group therapy. I would recommend this program to anyone who is struggling and feels like the individual therapy is not enough to get them through their crisis. Being in a program where everyone understands where your are coming from and who you are going through has been a great support system.

I admitted myself to this farce of a hospital in August of this year. After waiting in the admissions department for 12 hours I was assigned to a room. During my 6 days there I saw no therapeutic activities and saw the Doctor for about 3 minutes a day. The food was brought in styrofoam containers and was cold and nearly inedible. I lost 5 pounds during my stay and I was only 135 to begin with.

Great place. My first and hopefully last stay at a Psychiatric Hospital. Awesome staff; cool and interesting people. The food was surprisingly delicious. The level of care that I received truly was touching.I can’t understand the negative reviews; unless I think of the fact that some patients may remember the negative things because they were not in a good place mentally.

No treatment here:( They don’t follow the schedule given; you have to fight to get your rights upheld; saw a psychiatrist only 3 times for 5 minutes each during a week long stay; no individual therapy; group therapy rarely actually happens despite the fact that it is promised, and when it does it is only 15min long and is just a therapist reading from a sheet of paper; spent most of my time here just sitting around, the days are completely unstructured and, as can’t emphasize enough, no treatment. Understaffed. Staff significantly undertrained. Many of the staff members lack the human decency to treat patients with basic dignity. Overall an example of the horrendous state of the American mental health care system. Shocked that they are able to get away with this in 2020. Try to go somewhere else if you can! While most places are pretty rough, I’ve heard that UNC hospitals psych department is at the top by far.TLDR: Ended up here because I desperately needed help, did not get any.Edit: Would highly recommend Duke’s behavioral health campus as an alternative if at all possible

Ive been the Holly Hills PHP (full time program) for about two weeks now, and Ive been a lot of progress. I had been in ongoing therapy for 3 years, and my therapist recommended I come to them for an evaluation during a really low point in my life. I called, was seen very quickly, and was very relieved to know that the assessment was free, as financial issues are one of my stress triggers.Im in a research STEAM field, where a lot of people face mental health issues that often go unaddressed. Here, Ive gotten a new diagnosis, medications, and Im learning the right coping strategies to get myself back in my field and working towards my future. I havent been the only person in my field here either. So if youre in research, stressed out, worried about your publication/lab/PI/etc., this is really is a good place to come to.The therapists here are really nice and understanding but will also hold you accountable. The Dr. here is amazing as well and treats you like a person with a life outside of whatever you may be facing.Im looking forward to transitioning to the part-time program, getting back to my normal life, and knowing that my life didnt have to end because I was in crisis. Im truly thankful that Holly Hills has given me the tools necessary to move forward and practice some personal care

PHP is an amazing program for does who are ready to make a change. The best part is making a community with other participants. Who have kept in touch even I am out of the program already. We keep each in check and look for one another to maintain our sobriety and our mental health being. If you are ready to change your life and truly make a family this is your program.

I just got back home from being there for seven days. This place helped me during my darkest time. The staffs were mostly friendly although a few were too aggressive when talking to the patients. My favorite therapist was Katlyn. Shes so compassion. Therefore, she speaks to the patients with great understanding as well as an ease. Holly Hill provides medication to help ease your mind and sleep (and for other illnesses too) even though I couldnt sleep well during my stay there because the staffs check up on you in your room every 15 minute (to ensure safety for each patient). In addition, the food was good accept we were fed too much carbs during a meal several times a day in which Im not use to eating. Anyways, if you stay at this hospital, you will gain weight. No joke. Overall, I will recommend this hospital to others as well as come back if I ever needed (NOT PLANNING BUT NEVER KNOW). Overall, others need expect to follow the rules for their own safety by law, participate in groups, open up to psychologist, therapists, nurses, social worker and patients as well as other staffs while staying or you wont be coming home. They want to ensure you are better before letting you go. Lastly, Holly Hill is a non smoking facility (even outside). There is no smoking going on the property.

I was here nearly a year ago. I wrote about how they treated me when I got sick off their food and received no medical care for it. All these 5 star ratings are plants to make this $h!t hole look good. Dont believe them. Anything that says community oriented/supportive is bull. Techs could honestly care less about the people there. The Docs I think are only there for the money. At night the staff can be extremely loud. You ask for mundane things and they either deny you or ignore you. The place sucks!

I found the inpatient program a difficult situation to be in but was relieved to access to the program. The staff were supportive and knowledgeable. The PHP program was a very helpful program to transition to once I left inpatient. The staff there was welcoming and did a good job of explaining the curriculum and providing resources for us to research. Sam Pittman (the director) was always readily available and a calming presence. Laura Pond was also extremely thorough in explaining the processes of the program and patient with her explanations of the materials.

If I could go lower I would. I personally was never at this hospital but a loved one was. I never spoke to a person who was kind.. everyone I spoke to from intake to nursing staff needs a new profession because human decency clearly eludes you. I was never able to speak to a doctor not because of the fact that the patient hadn’t given permission but rather they didnt feel I needed to.The patient was released into my custody without even having my permission to do so or notifying me of anything. My home was not her previous place of residence. I have something to say to every person there and it is a lot of 4 letter words. This hospital is a disgrace to mental health and needs to be closed and the patients need better and deserve better.

My supervisor is easy to reach out, responds my concerns timely, flexible with my time off request and asks me routinely if I needed any help. My work environment allowed me to help people who needed help the most as well as practice my clinical skills. It is a good place to work and grow professionally.

I would HIGHLY recommend this partial hospitalization program here at Holly Hill. The staff is amazing!! The psychiatrist, Dr Lobao, has a wealth of knowledge and experience and takes his time with you. All the therapists are also very good at what they do. Laura Pond, in particular, is very knowledgeable as well as kind. The amount of time spent here gives the staff a very good idea of your situation and what can be done to fix it. Again, a wonderful program!!!

Talking with the other patients was very beneficial. I felt like I was surrounded by people who truly understood what I was going through. Most of the staff were friendly and helpful. There were a few who were obviously unhappy to be there and treated the patients poorly. I have been here for a week and I am leaving in a much better condition than when I came in. One improvement would be more individual time with therapists and doctors.

This was probably the biggest waste of time. Most of the staff is extremely rude as if they’re not dealing with mentally unstable patients. Most of the “group therapy” I had consisted of a nurse who knows nothing about psychology or mental health. One was so bad because the nurse was speaking utter nonsense about Christianity as if she was some missionary or something. The doctor who comes once a week is the only way you can get out of this prison. And of course the doctor met with the patients for 5 min at the most. I asked the rest of the patients I was staying with what he prescribed them and we were all on the same medication. PLEASE do not waste your time and money here.

My 19 year old daughter spent 7 days here over Thanksgiving and came out just as messed up as when she went in. Their treatment consisted of several group sessions a day and no one on one counseling, or any guidance or help giving her the tools she would need to deal with her anxiety and depression. We did not receive any referrals to any groups or doctors in our area that could help so we are still at square one. No reason to keep her there for 7 days, except to get that insurance $$.

It is so very sad that Holly Hill does not see how poor their reviews are. 2 stars out of 5 stars shows they need to change some things. I had the same experience as so many others with a family member. Never spoke directly with doctor nor did any of our family know diagnosis and/or medications she was taking after nearly a week. Patient had given permission to tell us. Called often and sat on hold. Patients and family were often treated as inmates with much disrespect.
