Super place to get out of the heat of the valley and to access the multitude of trails in the area. Can camp right there or go further in and pack it in to a site. Lots of room but no reservarions so it can get tight at times.

BEAUTIFUL location. But other than that we didn’t love it.CROWDED-We heard this place gets crowded so we went on a Wednesday, but it was still so crowded! Got there early afternoon otherwise I don’t know if we would have gotten a spot. And the spots aren’t super secluded either.LOUD- Not only is it right next to the highway, but there were so many loud dirt bikes constantly. We thought they would stop once it got later but when they were still going strong at 9:00 we decided to leave.BUGS- not sure if it was the location, time of year or what, but there were tons of bugs, there was a nice picnic table at our campsite, but we ended up taking our dinner into the tent to eat because the bugs were so bad.Pretty dusty too like someone else said.If noise and crowds don’t bother you when camping, you’ll might like it, but we won’t be going back here.

One of my favorite places to camp in the area. Great views and nice open campsites, and its free! It does get pretty busy especially with a lot of trailer campers, but it is worth going to.

Beautiful setting. Great trails and places to hike nearby. The dirt is verrrrry dusty, fine dirt, so it sticks in everything. Its first come first serve with spots, so you cant reserve in advance. Spots are also fairly close in the main area, but there are some areas more back in the woods where you can hikebyour stuff in. Love having the mountains so close though.

This is a great place if you dont mind bringing your own water and being a little more self sufficient. Zero services other than a concrete pit toilet and unlimited neighbors as this is a super popular place. I frequently trail run through here in the summer and there are ALWAYS campers here even during the week, so you can keep dreaming if you think youll get a spot on a weekend.

Unbearably loud people this campground attracts. Dirt bike engines well into the night, yelling, screaming, generators until midnight, dirt bikes on and running at 5 am. Had to leave immediately. Rude, inconsiderate, shame because its a beautiful campground.

One of my all-time favorite trailheads. Not only is it 14-day free camping (still need a recreational pass), but there are multiple trails that start here. I usually hike to the second meadow, which is about 3 miles round-trip. Very easy hiking, very good views.

We did an 8 mile loop on horseback. The first couple trails were busy, but as we got further from campgrounds there were less people. Gorgeous views and beautiful flowers along the way. A lot of the trail was shaded, but it was still hot. Take plenty of water.

Can get a little noisy when trailers run their generator all night long but being close to home and free are nice for a quick overnight campout (as long as you find a spot).

Good free camp ground. A bit crowded and places fill up fast as expected being the only free camp ground it the area. But over all a great and fun place to take the family.

This place is beautiful, but extremely busy. There are also a lot of inconsiderate novice campers that blast their music on bluetooth speakers. I dont want to get in other peoples business but for gods sake, people dont go outside to listen to your terrible music. Just be considerate.

This is a great campsite. We were here during Memorial Day Weekend and it didnt even seem like it was terribly busy. There were a lot of people there but there was plenty of space for us all. The drive up wasnt too bad, and there are multiple ways of getting there.

Perfect free camping spot, except for fee to get into the park itself. There isnt any water or trash facilties on site, so make sure to be prepared for that. There are some great trails starting from and near the campsite. Also, there is a drop toilet and camping is first come first serve.

Several little hiking trails around the campground make it fun for the kids to explore, I gave it only 3 stars out of 5 because of the lack of services, it’s very dry and dusty most of the year, and the road is close to most of the campground making vehicular noise a constant, both day and night.

There is a good position at the bottom of the ring. It can be reversed and surrounded by trees. It should be the best. There are a lot of people, even on weekdays, it is recommended to arrive as early as possible, after all, it is free. Many people ride off-road motorcycles, so there is some noise. We stayed at a great spot, which has a dead end driveway so you can backup your vehicle in it and gives a bit more privacy. Plan to arrive as early as possible even in weekdays since its a free campground. As other people mentioned, there are motorcycles so cant avoid that noise.

For the third year in a row we have gone camping here. It is a wonderful place to spend a weekend, or also only from entry to exit. Breathing nature is incredible, the camitanatas in the morning and at sunset are beautiful. Camping and lighting a fire is without a doubt one of the things you must do there. I cant wait to go next year. Take your telescope and you will be able to appreciate at night the beautiful sky, the stars and the beautiful moon.
