Very beautiful short hike! Love it a lot, go there all the time! Every time I go I have seen some sort of wildlife LOTS OF MOOSE encounters too!
BEAUTIFUL location. But other than that we didn’t love it.CROWDED-We heard this place gets crowded so we went on a Wednesday, but it was still so crowded! Got there early afternoon otherwise I don’t know if we would have gotten a spot. And the spots aren’t super secluded either.LOUD- Not only is it right next to the highway, but there were so many loud dirt bikes constantly. We thought they would stop once it got later but when they were still going strong at 9:00 we decided to leave.BUGS- not sure if it was the location, time of year or what, but there were tons of bugs, there was a nice picnic table at our campsite, but we ended up taking our dinner into the tent to eat because the bugs were so bad.Pretty dusty too like someone else said.If noise and crowds don’t bother you when camping, you’ll might like it, but we won’t be going back here.
Crowded... dry, first come first serve. No cell on Verizon.Restrooms, trash bins, fire pits.No water.Fishing nearby.Lots of dirt bikes and quads... not quiet.
A nice camping area with lots of trails. Easy to reach, lots of camp sites. No amenities though, little privacy, and very dusty.
Worst ever! Bunch of trees and plants and fresh air and mountains. You wouldnt like it. 😘
Perfect temperature right now. Kind of a lot of people.
Beautiful setting. Great trails and places to hike nearby. The dirt is verrrrry dusty, fine dirt, so it sticks in everything. Its first come first serve with spots, so you cant reserve in advance. Spots are also fairly close in the main area, but there are some areas more back in the woods where you can hikebyour stuff in. Love having the mountains so close though.
Biking trails were ok but it was fun to camp here
This is a great place if you dont mind bringing your own water and being a little more self sufficient. Zero services other than a concrete pit toilet and unlimited neighbors as this is a super popular place. I frequently trail run through here in the summer and there are ALWAYS campers here even during the week, so you can keep dreaming if you think youll get a spot on a weekend.
We did an 8 mile loop on horseback. The first couple trails were busy, but as we got further from campgrounds there were less people. Gorgeous views and beautiful flowers along the way. A lot of the trail was shaded, but it was still hot. Take plenty of water.
Can get a little noisy when trailers run their generator all night long but being close to home and free are nice for a quick overnight campout (as long as you find a spot).
Good free camp ground. A bit crowded and places fill up fast as expected being the only free camp ground it the area. But over all a great and fun place to take the family.
This place is beautiful, but extremely busy. There are also a lot of inconsiderate novice campers that blast their music on bluetooth speakers. I dont want to get in other peoples business but for gods sake, people dont go outside to listen to your terrible music. Just be considerate.
Nice campground. Easy access. No issues.
Love how it is so far away but the camping spots are a little close together
Nice. Clean.
This is a great campsite. We were here during Memorial Day Weekend and it didnt even seem like it was terribly busy. There were a lot of people there but there was plenty of space for us all. The drive up wasnt too bad, and there are multiple ways of getting there.
What isnt there to love about the mountains? No cell service making it that more peaceful.
Great camping spot. Has restrooms, sures are spread out for privacy if you go back into the site. Fun!
Great boondocking camp site. Fun 3-mile hike takes a little over an hour.
It real camp only 1 out house no running water but a lot of trail around it.
Perfect campground for cheap camping with the family. On some weekends you get hot rodders racing up Alpine Loop and they can be loud at night. Has public restroom. Sites are really big. Not paved at all, just dirt road.
Perfect free camping spot, except for fee to get into the park itself. There isnt any water or trash facilties on site, so make sure to be prepared for that. There are some great trails starting from and near the campsite. Also, there is a drop toilet and camping is first come first serve.
Great camping and outdoor experience
Beautiful place. No reservation required. Went there for our Fathers and Sons outing. It was perfect.
Love this place. Only downside is that its not right next to the river. I like to go here with the fam a lot. There always seams to be space for a fire and relaxing. There are also good trailheads from here.
Seriously, this area has some if the best views in American Fork Canyon. It also has a great view of Mt. Timpanogos too. The trail to Salamander Flats and to views of Mt. Timpanogos are easy to navigate. Enjoy!
Incredible place, close to the road, plenty of free camping spots, perfect for hammocking too!
Was a nice quiet place to take kids to camp, they had a blast
Really nice views, especially Timpanogos.
Nice and beautiful area, outdoor restrooms available too.
I love this campground! The scenery is breath taking, there is access to many trails, and its free!!
Great times. Get there early on a weekend because it is first come first serve.
Truly awe-inspiring scenery. Great spot!
Plenty of campsites and east access to trailheads. I recommend spots directly to the right after the entrance.
A great primitive camping spot close to town.
Lots of open space, just make sure no mice sneak into your car. They might end up living in your porch.
Beautiful canyon camping, but very crowded.
Tons of trails for bike, motorcycles, and horseback riding. Beautiful scenery, and easy to access.
Probably some of the best free camping in the area.
Awesome camp and trail site.
Great little camping spot!
Natural hot springs ... love it...
One of the free camping places on the Alpine loop! Has a bathroom but you must take away your own garbage
Over crowded, dirty, noisy. Dont go there.
Several little hiking trails around the campground make it fun for the kids to explore, I gave it only 3 stars out of 5 because of the lack of services, it’s very dry and dusty most of the year, and the road is close to most of the campground making vehicular noise a constant, both day and night.
Fun camping spot sometimes really crowded get up there early.
Best place to camp on the Alpine loop
Great view and pretty place
Excellent place for camping.
Free camping in a beautiful, secluded area
By far my favorite camping ground in AF Canyon! Surrounded by trails and it has bathrooms.
Free place to camp. Usually filled up on Friday night.
Great place to hammock camp
Fun getaway
Road is a little narrow but worth it for the view
Beautiful views!
Plenty of free dispersed calling, but lots of people leave trash and litter behind.
Amazing views
Beautiful
Awesome!!
Awesome
There is a good position at the bottom of the ring. It can be reversed and surrounded by trees. It should be the best. There are a lot of people, even on weekdays, it is recommended to arrive as early as possible, after all, it is free. Many people ride off-road motorcycles, so there is some noise. We stayed at a great spot, which has a dead end driveway so you can backup your vehicle in it and gives a bit more privacy. Plan to arrive as early as possible even in weekdays since its a free campground. As other people mentioned, there are motorcycles so cant avoid that noise.
For the third year in a row we have gone camping here. It is a wonderful place to spend a weekend, or also only from entry to exit. Breathing nature is incredible, the camitanatas in the morning and at sunset are beautiful. Camping and lighting a fire is without a doubt one of the things you must do there. I cant wait to go next year. Take your telescope and you will be able to appreciate at night the beautiful sky, the stars and the beautiful moon.
