When talking with Dennis prior to booking I asked what the opportunity rate was on bear, he said last year that if you did not count the second bear opportunity that it was 100 percent (Which he denies saying now). After chatting some more, I decided to book the hunt. Later talking with the guides, they said four guys did not get their bear last year.On May 12th myself and two others arrived in camp to find out that the guides had arrived the same day. Each of us went out to the bait sites and none of us saw any bear until the fourth day. I had a glimpse of one and that evening one of the other hunters saw one and was able to take it. That was the only opportunity for all three of us.After hunting a few days, the outfitter finally started putting out trail cameras, none prior to our arrival. When I was leaving Dennis offered to allow me to come back for two days to try and get a bear, after a few weeks of trying to get a date, he finally gave me a date of June 26th and 27th. On the 25th I received a voicemail not to come because it was too hot, and he had no guides.I emailed him and asked if I could come back for a discounted price since things did not work out with no response. I then sent Dennis an email letting him know my concerns of the hunt and that he had told me last year was 100 percent and I found out different.I received an email from him saying that he is not a liar, and I was not welcome back in camp. The only good thing about the hunt was the camp cook Dawn, she kept us fed very well and built fires for us in our tents for when we arrived back from the evening hunt.It was awful strange that we were not seeing bear, when where we met Dennis at the town of Avery, the coolers in town were full of bear and the store had lots of pictures of bear with the outfitter Russel Pond.Well Dennis, You said you dont lie but in your response you stated I passed on a bear. The two other hunters in camp with me can back me up that I did not. In the five days of hunting one bear was taken and I saw a glimpse of one. That was three guys hunting everyday. All I am saying is that if the guides would have been there prior to our arrival and had trail cams setup before we arrived instead of two days into the hunt we might have seen something.

Hunted with my father over the course of five days with the father-son team of Dennis and Shelby. Both were great guys and very knowledgeable. For a supposedly “non-guided” hunt they provided a lot of support and direction. I saw three good quality bears over the course of five days. Both of us tagged out.

SPRING BLACK BEARWhat a great experience! The week we hunted my brother and I had a great time. The camp was rustic but very comfortable and the meals were excellent.Dennis and his crew worked extremely hard to put us hunters on game and I was able to harvest my first black bear. I would recommend checking out BMO.

I’ve never seen a company try harder than Bitterroot Mountain Outfitters, Inc. Elk practically everyday. Beautiful country, steep and deep with hardly any public in there. Their stock was a life savor, always going where no one has gone before and performing their best. Food is plentiful and amazing!

The outfitter and his wife and staff were nice and friendly people. only one of the three guides that I went with was a knowledgable hunter and actually made an effort to find game.... and that is where the good news ( if there is such a thing) ends the camp was a roadside camp and did not have an adequate toilet and no way to shower without driving 30 minutes both ways.the camp seem to be a jump-off place with people coming and going at all hours . The guides had no idea of where the game was and evidently had spent little or no time trying to locate game or sign before the hunt began. Speaking of sign , it was the 3rd day before I even saw an elk rub. I dont have any idea how the wolves and other predators have impacted the game populations .... but there is little or no game available Im an older hunter , but the two young bucks with me can go anywhere the best guides can go and after 4 days of hard hunting we saw 0 elk, 3 small deer and a bear a mile away . a lot of money to pay for a very sad hunt !
