I have been to many non commercial gyms over the years and this is by far one of the best ones I’ve been to. The equipment is amazing! Everything is new and the quality is hands down the best. 7 squat racks so I don’t have to fight for one!! Robert is also a fantastic RD and has helped me in the past with my nutrition. You get an RD and a gym owner! More bang for your buck! Can’t wait for another visit to Arizona 💪

Robert is an excellent coach who has a top notch facility. The gym has all the equipment needed to follow the Starting Strength system. During a trip through Phoenix, I contacted Robert to ask about dropping in his gym. He was very accommodating and provided guidance during my training. I can tell he is very experienced and tailored the training to what I can handle at my current level. Highly recommended for anyone in the area.

After reading books/articles by Sullivan and Rippitoe about the benefits of barbell training, I wanted to learn how to do it correctly and and more importantly - effectively. My experience with Robert was all that and more. Being a rank novice and just coming off heart valve surgery I was at a pretty low level of fitness. That has completely changed with Roberts coaching. Thanks to him I look forward to a healthier and stronger future.

Weights and Plates is a top notch gym! I was super impressed by the multitude of high quality bars, solid racks and platforms, calibrated plates, and overall equipment. I trained at this gym in the summer in Arizona and the air conditioning was perfect! The owner of Weights and Plates, Robert Santana, MS, RD, SSC is an exceptional Starting Strength coach and Registered Dietitian. He has coached me both in person and online for six years now and he is the BEST coach hands down! Totally recommend checking out this gym for yourself - I promise that you won’t be disappointed!

Came to Robert for a form check on all the major lifts. He was very knowledgeable and was able to not only explain what I was doing wrong but gave helpful cues so that I could correct these deficiencies. The facility was very nice, and the equipment was top notch. He made the three hour trip worth every minute.

I couldn’t have asked for a better person to introduce me to weight training. Robert is not your typical coach with “online certification”, he is well versed in the human body and its movement. With every lift you do under his guidance is a teachable moment with proper form, correction, and the why explained. In addition to having ample experience in strength training, he is a RD who will teach you how to properly fuel your body. The gym itself is a judgment free zone and so welcoming with fellow gym goers who have been nothing but encouraging and friendly. Take it from someone who’s always been a girly girl, and not lifted a day in her life- already seeing so much improvement physically and in strength. Highly recommend strength training with Robert.

Am a SS Masters Novice from Florida, in town for work. Worth the uber drive to/from Glendale. If you are a local and want to get strong, join. If you want to work hard, join. If you want to learn the right way to perform the big 4 complex movements (Squat, Press, Bench Press, and Deadlift), join.If I lived here, Id join.Robert is patient, extremely knowledgeable, patient, but blunt when it comes to technical flaws in your lifts (I have lots of them).

Proud member here. If your serious about training, I recommend this place. No extra nonsense, just pig iron and proven methods presented by good coaching. 24 hour access and you never have to wait for a squat rack or machine.

I really enjoyed training here while I was in Phoenix for work. The gym has everything you could need: squat racks, barbells, specialty barbells, bumper plates, microplates, chains, chalk, etc. The gym is clean, and the equipment is new. I even got some form checks from the owner. Looking forward to finding another opportunity to train here!
