Dr. Yoon is a miracle worker. Dr. Yoon was straight forward with the details of my surgery and what needed to have done to make me whole again. To give me my life back: without pain. I can’t thank you enough for all that you have done for me and my family.πŸ™πŸΎπŸ’― πŸ‘πŸΎ

This man was born to be a neurosurgeon. I had no idea that I had cervical spinal stenosis and he recommended emergency surgery. I was petrified, but this doctor has a bedside manner that exudes confidence in the ability to make people better. I had never met him prior to the surgery, and minutes before he performed the delicate surgery he stood by my bed gave me a smile and rub my arm and said to me we’re going to get you all better and you’ll be able to go to Jamaica real soon. Even though I was scared prior to him speaking to me he gave me such a warm and assuring confidence that he knew exactly what he was doing. I was blessed to have him as my surgeon. His skills come from God he is the best in his field thank you Dr. Yoon. God bless you

I knew I could trust Dr. Yoon the very first time I saw him, when I was convinced I needed surgery and his first response was We dont have evidence yet that you need it. As opposed to a surgeon whos all too happy to jump to a surgical solution, whether warranted or not. Dr. Yoon was focused and responsive and answered all my questions. And it turned out surgery was absolutely necessary, The surgery went very well and the followup was good. I am very glad I found Dr. Yoon.

Dr. Yoon and his staff at Penn Medicine were very professional and personable. Dr. Yoon took the time to listen and explained things thoroughly. I never felt forced to make decision. My procedure (anterior cervical decompression and fusion) was in June 2021 and it was the best decision I made. Thank you Dr. Yoon for giving me my life back.

Dr. Yoon, words can not express how my family and I greatly appreciates him. On July 16th of this year Dr. Yoon and his team performed a Lateral Interbody Fusion and a Laminectomy on my L3/S1. As everyone has testify, the next day I was up and walking. The pain that I had for years was gone. But then the work of recovery begins. Now Dr. Yoon and his remarkable team comes in, and he adds his wonderful doctor, patient skills. You must know I did my research on Dr. Yoon in his field. But it was not until I had an in person visit that I was going to get a lesson in Neuroscience. He went over using my MRI to explain the damage that was done to my Spine, and what it would take to have me standing tall again. You see I had been walking bent over for some years. I went from 5’8 inches to 5’7 inches, Dr. Yoon assured me that I would be standing tall after the procedure. Now I stand 5’8 inches again due to a skilled and conscientious Neurosurgeon. Dr. Yoon respected my moral and religious beliefs. That’s why I would refer family and friends to Dr. Yoon and his team.

I have had worsening back pain, weakness, and increasing dysfunction, for several years (no specific injury or inciting event). Over the past year or so, I’ve had more trouble with gait. I’ve had lots of great PT, and several very helpful epidural injections to help with pain and inflammation, but finally needed to get surgery. Dr. Yoon and his excellent Penn team, performed an anterior oblique approach L4 L5 fusion, with a few additional associated procedures. It’s now just a little over two weeks since my surgery, and I am already in less pain than I was prior to the surgery! With great appreciation,MaryJane Lang

When I was referred to Dr. Joon I was in severe pain and unable to walk I was actually in a wheelchair. Dr Joon took his time and look over all my MRI & X-Ray and insured me I was in good hand and needed to get a infusion done. He explained everything what he was going to do step by step. After getting them done I’m walking and pain free. I love that when I woke up from surgery he was right there holding my hands. And even came to my room every day to check up on me when I was in the hospital. When I have office visits he’s always he take his time to answer any questions or Concerns. I love how he setup the nursing stuff for me and made them alert of the type of patient I was. Which made my stay in the hospital so much easier. When you are a patient of Dr Joon he is the only one that will see you and touches you. Which I love the most

My wife, Irene, is a patient of this amazing doctor, Jon J.W. Yoon. The comments expressed here are from Irene and me. Dr. Yoon has performed two different surgeries on my wife, Irene, a year apart. Both were a great success in relieving the terrible back pain she had. Each surgery was performed on a different part of her spine for two different reasons. Dr. Yoon is a brilliant, compassionate surgeon who took great care of my wife. He is extremely knowledgeable and has a great bedside manner. He explained everything each time to us so we knew exactly what each surgery could accomplish. And both did! Irene is largely pain free in her back because of Dr. Yoons outstanding care. WE highly recommend Dr. Yoon to anyone looking for an excellent neurosurgeon.

Dr Yoon is amazing! I had been dealing with the pain of herniated discs for decades. I was terrified of surgery, unfortunately because of an accident surgery was my only option, I’ve never been more thankful to be in an accident…lol…immediately after my spinal fusion surgery the pain was gone…poof!! Gone. I can walk without pain, sit…live. I am now able to lay on my back and my stomach something I haven’t done in a very long time. I am very grateful to Dr Yoon, very grateful he is an excellent surgeon. The staff at his office and in the surgery unit, the nursing staff after surgery all were amazing as well. I felt very cared for. I can’t thank them all enough.

Seeking a second opinion for a diagnosis of spinal surgery I was recommended to U of P by my brother in law who is a neurologist in LA. Selecting Dr Yoon was an easy task after reading his reviews and meeting with him for a consultation he read my test results and decided along with my brother in law the immediate 5 level surgery was necessary. Btw , the previous Dr said it was not an emergency, both dr Yoon and my BIL disagreed heavily. I had 5 level surgery to my C 2 - C 7 of my neck on Feb 26th. July 20th I was back playing competitive baseball. The mobility I have now is without pain and way above both drs expectations. Continuing to improve each day and living life with minimal pain. Thanks you Dr Yoon and your team. Follow up appointments have been painless and easy. Highly recommend

Cant say enough great things about Dr. Yoon and his staff. Dr. Yoon was asked by another Doctor to look at my husbands MRI and within 2 hours we were sitting with Dr Yoon making plans for surgery. He is 6 weeks out or surgery and what a difference. From the time we first met Dr. Yoon through his post operative check up yesterday, Dr. Yoon and his staff have made this a great experience. Angeline could not have been more helpful. Anytime we had a question she was right there to help. Thank you for helping my husband get on the road to recovery.

I sought out a second opinion for the cervical radiculopathy I had been troubled with for some time. I wanted to go to Penn Medicine as I felt they would be the most advanced in neurosurgery. That was when I met Dr. Yoon. His staff was always kind, quick to respond to my needs and questions. Dr. Yoon takes a very conservative approach with his patients and had me go through various testing to be certain I was a good candidate for a cervical discectomy to relieve the pain radiating down my arm from a pinched nerve in C6 and C7. On the day of surgery all the hospital staff were caring and followed all COVID-19 protocol. Dr. Yoon’s surgery was a complete success. I awoke from surgery and no longer had pain down my arm. The incision in my neck healed very quickly and is barely noticeable. My only regret is not having the surgery done sooner.

Dr. Yoon is an extremely gifted surgeon. My most recent back surgery included insertion of 10 screws and 2 rods. In the course of 2+ months, I went from debilitating pain levels to a quality of life that I had only dreamed of pre surgery.Dr. Yoon is an excellent communicator of the issues, the surgical plan, its risks and success rates, and recovery time lines. He shows sincere empathy in all of his patient interactions. I would highly recommend Dr Yoon to all, truly a 5 star practitioner.

I accompanied my adult daughter to her appointment with Dr. Yoon because she has OCD, which sometimes prompts her to alter the information that she receives in self-destructive ways. The referring doctor recommended Dr. Yoon hoping that my daughter’s condition might lend itself to a less invasive form of surgery.Instead, Dr. Yoon told her that her condition would call for major back surgery requiring a long recuperation time. Troubling details of his description of this surgery aside, he told her that he thought his surgery would be unsuccessful in her case. In fact, he said that her chances for success would be only a tiny fraction of 1%. Furthermore, he told her, her surgery would likely lead to an outcome far worse than her present condition. He went on to describe some of the dangerous outcomes that he saw in her future, should she make this choice. His parting words to her were that when her pain became so bad she no longer wanted to live, she should come back and see him first. (She hadnt been considering suicide.)

Dr. Yoon saved my life. I know that might sound hyperbolic, but it isnt. I was experiencing 250/10 pain and he performed surgery that provided me with instant pain relief. The scar from surgery is minimal and I am beyond satisfied with the tremendous care I received. Dr. Yoon is intelligent, professional and takes time to explain and answer hard to understand concepts. Dr. Yoon is a hero!

Dr. Yoon did my L4/L5 discectomy and fusion in December. We met three times prior to surgery to review MRI, xrays, symptoms and develop the plan to eliminate my pain. I was experiencing severe pain right at the L4/L5 point, disrupting my sleep, my ability to sit, stand or lay down for more than 45 minutes at a time in any one position. I was experiencing limited leg issues, primarily some vibration feeling in my left leg, but certainly nothing limiting my life as the back pain was. I sought Dr. Yoon out as one of the few surgeons who will do this surgery through my side versus through my back. This decision was based on if a laminectomy is required or not for me to relieve leg pain. As I was not having leg pain we agreed to not do the laminectomy. I could not be happier with the result. The minute I woke up from surgery, the intense pain I had felt at the L4/L5 level was completely gone. Of course I was in pain, I had just had surgery, but it was surgery pain not nerve pain. Within two weeks I was driving and walking close to normal. By 6 weeks he was reminding me to slow my roll because it takes 3 months for the fusion to be secure. At my 6 week check up he took the time to walk through the pictures of the surgery, explaining the steps, explaining the 3d printed titanium disc that replaced mine and how at the 1 year CT scan we should see bone growing thru it. Very productive session explaining not only the surgery but what the future state will look like as well. He is smart, articulate, passionate about his work and his patients. I highly recommend Dr. Yoon.
