Be YOU! Want your houseplant garden in the hallway? A plaque or sign outside your front door? I have both. Management and visitors alike welcome them. You don’t have to shop, plan, cook or cleanup for anyone – hardly even for yourself. Thrive in all you can do with the time and energy those duties used to take. And enjoy all the varied and delicious food you want.Be part of an intelligent, cultured and warm community at Watermark and at the same time be different – if you want to be.Feel safe – you are.Go on free trips near and far, for the arts and intellect, parks and beaches, exercise and fun, restaurants and more.Medical care is a click away. Both our executive director and primary doctor are responsive, thorough and lovable (emailing a comment or criticism to Director Jennifer Tapner usually brings a cogent response almost before you think she has read your message).Giant windows to the outside on all sides afford views of the ever-evolving cityscape and always changing sky.

After a fall I was taken to Jefferson Hospital. I temporarily lost my memory. The hospital was able to contact my daughter in Australia and she came to Philadelphia and found Watermark for me.I was first taken to the 8th floor in their Assisted living portion of the building but after a number of years there I was upgraded to Independent Living and that is where I now live on the 17th floor with a great view of the Logan Square [a circle with a fountain in the center]There are a lot of activities available for the residents, somewhat less during the Pandemic. And the food is great, the only menu item I dont like is the skate, fortunately we dont get that too often.I love it here and I will stay for the rest of my life, probably going back to Assisted living, the final stop for us all.But I have the experience, lived there before!

The Watermark at Logan Square has an Administrator named David who is AWESOME! Every single time I called with him a concern he was on it immediately! In knowing that he is definitely dealing with other facility issues that are more critical then the things I was calling him for during these trying times (corona pandemic); he made his business to immediately do exactly what he said he would do handle the issue at hand. Thank you again David for providing me and my family with the support we needed; YOURE THE BEST!!

My care at The Watermark for rehabilitation after my surgery was a welcomed experience. When I arrived I was greeted by Director of Nursing Kathy Aleszczyk with a caring attitude that I needed being in pain and a lil nervous. She was so sweet she made sure I was given dinner and let me know where her office was if I needed anything. The staff introduced themselves as they came in the room. The next day I met the Administrator Mr. David Attwood who took the time to listen to my concerns as my surgical wound was painful. David and Kathy made sure my stay was comfortable. David was kind enough to stop what he was doing each time I had a question or concern. I wish I could name all the nurses and assisting nurses that made sure I received water, juice and crakers. One of them was Donna Rae if Im not mistaken and the Nurse who helped me in distress one afternoon when Transport brought me back. She helped me get cleaned up and out of a wheelchair after an embaressing accident. She (I think her name is Annette) let me cry it out while she calmed me down with kindness and understanding. I could go on and on about my treatment with the PT staff Dean very patient and the OT lady, giving me something warm to ware for a Transport one morning she was awesome helping me in the mornings. I must mention the Socialwork lady who went the extra mile making sure my stay was without worry. Bottom line I would recommed The Watermark at Logan Square to patients in need of care to be treated here and wish them all the best! ☺😁

In March 2020, my mother was hospitalized for complications with Congestive Heart Failure and weakness in her left leg. She was sent to Watermark for rehab to gain her strength back before returning home. Due to COVID-19, we were unable to visit her. We were only able to speak with her on the phone. Most of the time, the phone in her room would just ring without any answer. Though we asked them multiple times to make sure the phone was within her reach, they rarely did. Lots of times, they wouldnt even answer the phone at the front desk. Great day at the Watermark. What a joke. We would have weekly conference calls with her Social Worker, Pascale (who is the least social Social Worker Ive ever met), her Physical and Occupational Therapists and her Dietician. The PT told us that even though she needs assistance from 2 people to walk at the moment, they would eventually get her back to walking on her own with her quad cane. My mother, however, told us that they lost her clothes, sneakers and leg brace that she ABSOLUTELY needs to walk. So they lied to us about her walking and progress. While at Watermark, due to neglect, her health deteriorated. She was hospitalized SIX times while at the Watermark. One time my Dad called her and during their conversation he asked how they were treating her there. She replied A little rough. When my Dad asked what she meant, she said Someone is feeding me lunch right now. She didnt want to go into detail while they were in the room. Due to them not brushing, one of her teeth rotted in her mouth. They didnt wash her hair or bathe her. When she finally returned home in July, it was on Hospice/End of Life services. She was actively dying from kidney failure. Shed NEVER had Kidney issues before entering Watermark. Her fingernails and toenails had fungus in them. Her hair was so dirty and smelly. When I finally washed it, it began to fall out in huge clumps. She had 3 Stage 2 Bed/Pressure scores. My Mom returned home on a Thursday and died on Sunday. Please, please, if you value yours or your loved ones life, avoid Watermark. Our family still cant get over the shock of having a capable family member go in and having a corpse returned to us.

I am new here after 9 years at a suburban retirement community. Cant compare...apples and oranges. Love my apartment and the view. People very friendly. I am figuring out how everything works. Big challenge to adjust at a new place at 88 where I dont know anyone. It is so interesting to meet new people from all over. Very stimulating. Food is excellent. Nice choice of activities. Never lived like this before but I know this experience will help me exercise my mind and body in a positive way. Much closer to family and dont need my car. That in itself a major plus.

My folks moved into the independent living section 10 months ago. And, they felt at home almost instantly. The professional staff worked with us in customizing/decorating the apartment to suit my parents need. And, the overall orientation process was pleasant and easy. While the spacious apartment allows my parents their privacy, they also enjoy the casual socializing, dining experience, and planned activities. And, the on-site physicians and physical therapy are a great convenience. They also enjoy the in-town location. Its safe and clean. And, they can walk to coffee shops, Whole Foods, etc. when they feel up to it.

I still love living my stress-less life at the Watermark and you can reference my last review of 8 months past to learn why.. The reason I write this review is to share with you a recent television segment on the Art of Aging which was shown on Channel 6, ABC. Channel 6 sent their camera crew here to the Watermark to shoot the segment. You can see this segment simply by going to Google and enter Channel 6, ABC/The Art of Aging I hope you enjoy viewing it, as much I did being part of it.Dee Levin

The facility is beautiful and well maintained. The front desk is well staffed and managed. However, the staff on the second floor of the skilled nursing section is sparse to invisible. Their attitude is great, if you can find them, as there is obviously too many patients per staff person. Also lacking is linen, pitchers, cups, paper towels etc. unbelievably sparse to non-existent.

I cant understand the negative reviews for the Watermark at Logan Square. I have been a independent living resident for more than 4 years and consider my decision to move to the Watermark one of the best decisions I have ever made. There is a saying you can lead a horse to water but you cant make him drink. The food is a cut above what one would expect from a retirement facility. The activities are remarkable with concerts, lectures and programs that range from Bridge to knitting, piano lessons, fitness center etc. This is a very special place because a lot of the people who come to the Watermark come specifically for its location. There are 3 museums in the immediate area along with the Free Library of Philadelphia next door. The worst that could be said about the Watermark is the slow elevators…Yes they are slow but if thats the worst you can say about the community, then it must be one heck of a place. There are people who come to the Watermark and hide in their rooms. They would be unhappy anywhere. For the majority of the residents, this is a wonderful place to live. The population of the Watermark includes rocket scientists, retired physicians, college professors, authors, sex therapists, psychologists and a lot of other interesting individuals.Staff turnover is a problem for all facilities such as the Watermark. However, we do have staff that has been here for many years.

I am a recent addition to the Watermark at Logan Square and I have to say it really is a remarkable place to work. The residents who live here are very welcoming and incredibly easy to work with, they are understanding and patient. I enjoy walking into the dining room everyday greeting and talking with the residents, sharing in their daily lives, listening to their stories and they are genuinely interested in mine. Its a beautiful building with so many accommodations, friendly and helpful staff. It is a one of a kind place to live.

I have been in this industry for 12 years and I’ve worked at The Watermark at Logan Square for two years. This review isn’t to sell the Watermark; but more about why I love my job. I live in Center City and I have a wonderful group of friends. We’re all around 60 years old and we’ve already planned that we will one day live at the Watermark to keep our fabulous city lifestyle going. I take The Watermark’s monthly activity list home for my friends to plan for our own activities; we end up doing many of the same things the residents do! The daily activities The Watermark offers are incredible; the theater, ballet, orchestra, art museum, trips to Longwood Gardens and the list goes on! The food is delectably delicious (I love to eat!) and our shuttle bus makes transportation convenient.

My mother was there for a week. They discharged her with a still weeping wound, unable to walk up her stairs and with a Foley catheter that they NEVER explained how to empty. She left facility at 2pm and was not going to receive care until the next morning at 8am. Her Foley bag was completely full and could have backed up into her bladder. Outrageous that they would not inform or educate her as to how to empty it. Will never send someone there or have my mother go there.

My Mom has lived in independent living at the Watermark for six years. I think the WM is a great place for those in independent living. The apartments are beautiful (although maintenance when needed is often hard to come by) and the staff for the most part are great. If you/your loved one are able to take advantage of the activities offered, it is great. However, if your loved one needs a higher level of care this may not be the best place. My Mom has been able to stay independent living because we privately hire staff to support her. Assisted living is not nearly as well staffed as it needs to be (for what people are paying they should be offered more than minimum licensing requirements) and skilled nursing is even worse. Jennifer Tapner the executive director is extremely responsive in almost all situations. The constant increases in rent are ridiculous.

My moving in was . basedon the fact that there were 7 museums in walking distance At the ageof 95 I can no longer walk to these museums; instead I can take theWatermark loop bus (FREE!) The Watermark has lived up to myexpectations in many ways - my spacious apartment, good food, interesting activities and a great variety of people, not to mentionavailable health service 24 hours a day. My sister and I moved our mom here 12 years ago after my father passed away. She was only 80 and in good health at the time and continues to live in the independent area at 92. It took her a while to get used to it but she will tell you now it is the best thing she ever did. She plays cards, sees shows and has made friends. It is much closer to where we live so we are able to see her more often. The staff has been caring. I agree that the only complaint is the amount the unit is raised in regard to rent annually. When she was hospitalized and needed a bit of rehab she was able to have her friends from the building visit her which was great. All in all its been great for her.

My friend in the Memory Garden section of the nursing facility has memory issues. It is the only locked area in the facility. He receives excellent attention from the staff who know him and treat him with care and understanding and always dignity. Many of that staff have been there over 10 years. Among the staff there appears to be a sense of belonging and family. My mother was in the nursing part of the Watermark in the 1990s before she died at age 84. She had good care and spoke well of the staff.

My experience with the Watermark has been positive. My brother and sister in law have lived in an independent apartment for 10 months. Initially my sister in law was in the rehab until she could live independently. Presently my brother is in the rehab following a hospital stay. His care in rehab has been quite satisfactory. He is getting very good care from the nurses. My only complaint is that they don’t have enough nurses/aides employed. The nursing supervisor was quite helpful when I consulted with her. The OTs and PTs have been excellent with their services to him. We had a good consultation meeting shortly after he was admitted in the rehab to determine what course to follow regarding his care plan. I am pleased with his care. The Watermark at Logan Square is a good place. They just need more staff.

If I could leave less than one star I would . The higher up staff at the watermark is terrible . They are ignorant , rude , and condescending . My loved one had/has really bad bruises on two occasions and when I ask questions about how they got their first response is find a new facility for her .No compassion at all that these things are happened to an elderly dependent woman. They aren’t sterile and don’t follow guidelines when it come to certain health issues. My loved one has been dehydrated and also had pressure wounds due to the lack of care . They all have nasty attitudes especially when you have questions about care , they feel as if you shouldn’t be asking them anything . No one is on the same page when you have questions about care , the nurse , cnas, Nursing supervisor/ director etc everyone has a different story and gives different misleading information . When I visit I often hear residents crying out for help and staff not listening , and sometimes talking to them in a nasty manner . The residents that are dependent get treated and cared for poorly vs independent residents . This all trickles down from management in my opinion, you can’t expect good staff if management isn’t good. Whenever I go to them with a concern my questions are never answered instead I am given a partial response and brushed off when it comes to health care issues . The nursing director there is mean and rude she talks to you as if she thinks your stupid and she makes unkind remarks while having meetings with her . There’s nothing about her that is professional . The list goes on but in a nutshell if your loved one is completely dependent find a different place for them because this isn’t it. I can’t wait to eventually find somewhere new .

Now been more than a hour to remake her bed she is sitting in a chair 88 years old.She broke in a red blotches on her face and back. In a few months, it will be five stress-less, wonderful years living at the Watermark and this could be you. I say stress-less and wonderful because the residents here have whatever one needs or desires to have this kind of life.Let me elaborate: the quality of our food and the dining experience is given a 95-58% approval by our residents. Cant get better than that. Our apartments are cleaned, linens changed and beds made once a week. Less work for mother.Security is round the clock, so we feel safe and protected. A very good feeling.A doctor, podiatrist, dermatologist, audiologist, dentist, etc. are in the building and a nurse is available twenty-four seven. Hospitals are stone throw away. Hopefully you wont need these services, but its good to know they are here.If I start tell you about the abundant diversified in house activities we have, it would take the entire page. Add to that our off site excursions to wherever we want to go and you realize we are kept busy all the time if we wish it. Or, just stay in our apartments and cuddle up with a good book. WE MAKE OUR CHOICES..We are centrally located, convenient to museums, parks, restaurants and a ten minute ride to the theaters, Kimmel Center and the Academy of Music. Our Watermark bus takes us to downtown shopping, dropping us off and picking us up at every Septa stop starting at 9:30 AM. Its nice to have lunch and shop and not have to drive.Residents here, carve out the life style they enjoy. Some go to NYC for lunch and to see a show, some have taken cruises and vacations together and others attend classes a OLLI. That is OLLI Life Long Learning which is held in Temple University center city campus. (and of coarse our bus takes us there and brings us home.)There is much, much more that I can write, but I would rather you see for yourself. So come pay us a visit. I am Chairperson of the Welcoming Committee and it would b my pleasure to introduce YOU to a stress-less wonderful life.

I have been receiving junk mail from Watermark for the last year for my late mother inviting her for Discovery Luncheons or some such nonsense. She died in 2015. Each time I receive a flyer, it tears my heart out. No matter who you call - Ive even called the Administrator - no one will take her off the mailing list. Ironically, Watermark purchased her information from some third party and when my mother was alive, she lived in Florida, not Pennsylvania. The mail was forwarded to Philadelphia so I could handle her estate matters and the insensitive creeps at Watermark wont remove her. I dont know if they get their jollies by causing emotional pain to others, but speaking as a family member I would steer clear of Watermark! Hopefully this will get Watermarks attention and theyll finally take my late mother off their mailing lists, because nothing else has!

Watermark at Logan Square...how do I love thee, let me count the ways...(borrowed from some poet, whose name escapes me. I AM 77,for goodness sake!)The general environment, inside and outside, is lovely and reminiscent of a fine home on a grand estate. Further in this beautiful place one feels, and indeed, is safe. Security staff is clearly on duty at all hours. The personnel at the front desk are also attentive to this, observing the many video screens, with cameras placed throughout the property, and also handling phonecalls and visitors in a pleasant and welcoming manner. All of the staff associates in the various departments are cooperatve and ready to help, many times without being asked. They are more than courteous and warm, really cordial. The dining service has been changed from as a fine restaurant to very restricted and inflexible choices, less like the former home like environment than an institution with budget driven elements. Most residents are quite unhappy with ineffective response from management. Very disappointed with recent changes and this contrasted with the rest of my review.Overall, the servers act professionally, with a generally pleasant demeanor. Residents have their favorites, though the staff is rotated regularly. The housekeeping department works constantly to maintain a clean and comfortable place, in the apartments and the shared/public areas. The maintenance department is quick to respond to requests for repairs and help of various kinds, whether plumbing, electrical and other issues. The transportation system here is very helpful, with drivers being a key to the smooth operation, whether on routine scheduled routes or special trips. The same department is involved in arranging activities. movies and other entertainment, offering enough and of variety to keep interested residents as busy as they desire. Residents are also active in many programs, classes and other activities that they create/generate themselves. The library is an example where it is the skill and energy of residents that oversees the collection of printed material, CDs and other items. While there are other divisions here, these comments are written by a resident in independent living. In sum, many things have not been mentioned, but this should be considered a decent place for matue adults of any ability level, physical and mental.Joseph E. McGrory, Apt. 2201
