I want to give the highest recommendation to Dr. Alicia Chen & her team. My family & I have been in her care for several years now and have been very impressed with her wellness-based approach to patient care. I have recommended her with confidence to numerous family & friends through the years as I have found her to be a very competent & caring physician and well-respected in the medical community. She & her team have “gone the extra mile” for us on more than one occasion. I am very thankful to have found her practice (on the referral from another happy patient)

Barb here. Dr. Chen is absolutely a gifted and talented Physician and, to be honest, I consider her a friend of mine. Dr. Chen goes above and beyond what any previous doctor has ever done for my family. Using the confusing and ever changing subject of nutrition - Dr. Chen not only explains what the latest research (good, reliable research) indicates our diet should be, she also gives seminars to her patients on how to prepare the food, how to find the best supplements, what cooking methods to use and other helpful information. My daughter and my mother are both patients of Dr. Chen as well. My daughter has had various symptoms symptoms since she was 5 years old(she is now 30) and no doctor or specialist has been able to find the root cause until Dr. Chen did earlier this year. My Mother is 98 and over the past 10 years that she has been a patient of Dr. Chens, Dr. Chen has carefully monitored her medications, nutrition and exercise to give my Mom the best quality of life! I have been amazed at how foods and medications that are helpful and healthful at 70 or 80 can become a problem at 90 and over. Dr. Chen is constantly adjusting and monitoring my Moms health and has added many years of fun and learning to my Moms life.

From the first interaction with the staff on the phone setting up the appointment to the actual appointment itself you are welcomed and feel as if you are part of a team. Everyone is very helpful and willing to serve your needs. Dr. Chen takes the time to listen to your needs and interact with you on a personal level. You feel as if you matter and are not just another patient that is herded in and out.

I have gone to Dr Chen for around 15 years and absolutely loved her practice and the time she spent with her patients. It was a huge plus that she was a Christian doctor. Several years after I started seeing her she started with MDVIP which required a lot of extra money I didn’t have every year in addition to my copay. I didn’t pay it because I didn’t have it but I could still stay with her practice, I just had to see her nurse practitioner. Well, out of the blue I (and probably a lot of the patients that helped build her practice) received a letter stating that she was no longer seeing her traditional patients. She fired her nurse practitioner as well. She went from someone who cared about her patients and their health to someone who put money first. If you don’t have an additional $1800 a year, you aren’t worth her time. The last time I was in her office she didn’t even say hi. I’m not the only one who was burned by her. I’m out of some of my meds because the first new patient appointment I could get was the middle of March. Unless you are rich, don’t bother. It’s sad, she was and probably still is a great doctor. She just let money change her.

I was not real happy when my primary care doctor retired and Dr. Chen acquired his practice because I did not know what to expect. However, I think I can speak for my whole family and say we are all very happy and feel well cared for by Dr. Chen. We miss Dr. Moehle, but feel that we are in very good hands with our new doctor. We are most fortunate.

I have been with Dr Chen at least 4 years. When I filled out the initial paperwork at the end of the first line was a space for my nickname. NO DOCTOR IN 70 PLUS EVER ASKED FOR THAT INFOMATION EVER and due to a lifelong health issue I have seen lots of doctors. I knew that asking for my nickname showed how much she cared for her patients and I was right! She cares more because she wants to give all shes got to do the best she can and she has trained her staff well to follow her example. I just cant say enough about the whole office. Earlier this week I was in the office for blood work and I was finished in 5 min. Everyone on the staff pick up on cues as to what the patient needs and does not refer me to another person (unless of course its an emergency).I have never had an internist take such an interest in my diet. She has suggested in her seminar last November that we all should should consider a non dairy plant based diet and yes I am,because of Dr Chen,on a non dairy plant based diet and I love it! Who knew there was a different way to eat. I didnt and Im learning more all the time. There is even non dairy ice cream! Again, this demonstrate her care and concern for her patients and as a result she has, l believe, saved me from a heart attack or a stroke!Blessing to you Dr Chen

I have been a patient of Dr Chen, for over 15 years. She is a no nonsense doctor who tells it like it is. Spends lots of time with you asks probing questions and provides excellent service. Her staff is nice and accommodating. I would recommend her for any one from young adult onward to geriatric. She is more thean a GP she bro gs an internal medicine background to her work that lets her deal with much more complex medical issues. If you can get an appointment take it as in the end you will be well served.

Dr. Chen has been my primary care doctor for over ten years. I have never had to wait more than 15 minutes before seeing her. She has a wonderful caring attitude and will take as much time with me as needed with me and never seems rushed to get me in and out of her office. I have no idea how a patient would give her a rating of less than five stars.

Very hard to get ahold of staff in this office- closed on Fridays too which is odd considering it takes a while to get in for routine stuff. Regardless, I thought Dr. Chen was a pretty good doctor, so my feelings were pretty hurt when I got a dear john letter from her ceasing my care immediately which is always nice when you have recently been DXd with a chronic rheumatic disease requiring referrals to specialists and your doctor drops you without explanation. I guess waiting 2 months to see another primary will just have to work. Very disappointed.

Review №28

Dr Chen is the best Primary Care doctor I have ever had (59 years old). I have seen her 6 times in last 16 months and only waited more than 20 minutes once. I was recently in the Dallas area for many years and her average wait time is better than previous doctor of 15 years. I may know a reason why she has dropped some patients but you cant hold me to this. Dr. Chen is one of only 4 doctors between Mobile and Pensacola that is part of MDVIP. When you join MDVIP it costs about $1,500.00 per year and insurance does not reimburse for it. When a doctor agrees to be a part of MDVIP they offer a lot more service then you can imagine. To see what I mean look them up and they are nationwide. Any good or great doctor, like Dr. Chen, would die to be part of MDVIP because they get compensated from the above mentioned fee BUT they commit to a lot that they will do. One thing is, once their practice gets to 100% MDVIP patients, they wont take more than about 400 total patients (what I was told but number could have changed) and that is a requirement set by MDVIP. That means they will not only have a lot of time to spend with each patient BUT they also commit to keeping at least one appointment time slot open every day to be able to see a VIP patient on short notice. That has already happened for me. Once I was found to have prostate cancer by a local Urologist, I wanted to see Dr. Chen before my next visit to the Urologist to discuss treatment options. I was able to get into see her in 48 hours. Her opinion was to cancel my Urologist appt and go to MD Anderson for surgery. She did the paperwork that day to get me a referral to MD Anderson and they called me the next day. That surgery was a success and if not for her I might have made a mistake having it done locally.I had a lot of health issues and have taken her advice on a lot of things including specialists and they have all been excellent (even the Urologist). I have seen the following in the last year: ENT, Neurologist, Urologist, Dermatologist, Sleep Clinic and referral to the best prostate hospital/surgeon in the US.One day I talked to her nurse about MDVIP and the other three doctors I could have chosen. I expected her to say what she said and that is that Dr. Chen was the best choice. She pointed out that part of the MDVIP program is that if you need to see a doctor on short notice and your doctor is on vacation or you are out of town, you will get a quick appt with the nearest MDVIP doctor and they treat you as they would their own MDVIP patient which is first class. Her nurse told me they have seen patients from the other three MDVIP doctors in Pensacola and they typically said Dr. Chen is the best. One last thing. As a member of MDVIP you get your doctors personal cell phone number and are told you can call them 24/7 in an emergency. On New Years Day I sent Dr. Chen a text. I was in Texas and had a chest cold (coughing up junk). I told her the nearest CVS Pharmacy. She texted me back in 10 minutes with a few questions and had my prescription into that CVS (from her home on a Sunday) and I picked up my medicine in less than an hour after my first text to her.You have to pay for that service BUT MDVIP only considers the BEST doctors or they are out of business. She went into so much detail after my first physical and blood workup that I started walking 30 minutes a day 5-7 days a week AND started eating more green veggies and a less junk food. Eight months later and 40 lbs lighter she took me off ALL medications but kept me on fish oil, B12 and probiotics. That advice and all she has done may not have saved my life (she was the one that sent me to Urologist to confirm prostate cancer) but she has added years to my life and life to my remaining years!Since her MDVIP patient list is growing she may not be able to take on any more non VIP patients. My wife wants her but we dont think she needs the level of care of MDVIP (her heath is great). As she gets older we will do it.

I just moved to the area and have been trying to get my new patient paper work in to Miranda in this office and it has been horrible. I have been trying since the first of June faxing, emailing, calling over and over and no one will even call or e-mail me back!! I cant bring it by because the office is only open M-Th and they take a 2 hour lunch so if you work the normal M-F 8-5, its impossible to bring your paperwork by. This office requires all of your previous pt info, that they have to request from your previous Dr., and their 13 pages of new pt paperwork before they will even look at scheduling you an appointment. Its now the end of July and I am completely out of my maintenance medications. Luckily, my previous Dr. filled them for me again and with one call, I now have a new patient appointment with Dr. Flurry. No run around requests for my previous Dr. and filling out all 13 pages of paperwork before even getting me an appointment. I may not be able to see Flurry until Oct, which if I had started there it would have been sooner than Oct (Thanks Chen office), but at least I can now establish a new PCP for my new life here in FL.

I was a patient of Dr. Chens for 10+ years going back to when she was located on 9 MIle and University in the Medical Park. I thought we had established a good doctor patient rapport and relationship. I was disappointed with the wait time EVERY time I went (typically waiting 45-1hr for my scheduled appointment), but she always spent time with me in the exam room, so I put up with the wait time to see her. Her office staff made several errors with paperwork (lab request slips) and billing, but I put up with that, too, as I didnt want to find a new doctor, and we had an established positive doctor/patient relationship. I was shocked last summer to get a Dear John letter telling me they were dropping me as a patient with no reason as to why. I am a state employee with United Healthcare Insurance. When I called the office to inquire about the letter, they said they werent at liberty to tell me why and this is customary procedure to drop patients even if they have accepted insurance. I had never heard of such a thing. I guess that is the fault of Obamacare and Healthcare reform. So here I am a woman in my late forties with no doctor, and I have yet to establish a relationship w/ a new practice. That doesnt seem to demonstrate care for someone and seems to be a breach of trust. I trusted her with my healthcare, but I guess in the end, she doesnt care that I entrusted that to her. I am very disappointed by this practice of dropping people without warning for no reason. After reading many reviews on her, I see I am not alone. I have had two major healthcare issues since she dropped me, including a surgery, and have been embarrassed in hospital admissions to admit I do not have a family care doctor. I did, but due to no fault of my own, I do not any longer.Natalie
