The pond is open to the public and is a great place to dial in your casting before getting to the river. Trying to sort out casting on the river is tough because you are also trying to sort out the terrain, flys, flows, fish, ect. At the pond, you can focus just on the casting aspect. Practice does help. For beginners, check out my guiding service: North Yuba Guide Service. I guide on the North Fork Yuba. I guarantee that you will hook a fish. I can get you started and point you in the right direction. Anyway, practice casting before you head to the river. Have fun.
Best kept secret in Oakland for fishermen young and older.
Another park that Oakland has let deteriorate to the point that parts of it are no longer usable. From the street you see the two nice casting ponds. That is pretty much the only thing that gets maintained anymore. Did you know towards the back there is a little stream, bathrooms, some sort of club house and two TROUT PONDS. The ponds are full of debris everything else is being swallowed by ivy.
