The staff is amazing. They do everything they can to help when you are in a stressed situation which is not easy to do during a pandemic when you cant be near your fur baby during the exam. They were courteous, kind, thoughtful and great at communicating.Dr. Joglar explained every detail of the test results in a manner that I could understand and was extremely helpful. My pup Bailey is now on the mend and doing great!!

Truly relieved to know we have such outstanding emergency vet care nearby. The team has devised a speedy intake process. And while I was expecting a long wait, they were actually very quick and were great about keeping me informed about what was happening. But even more than all of that...what amazing staff. The vet assistant, in particular, is the one point of contact, coming out to greet us at the car and retrieve my injured pup. She was very pleasant, easily removed the stress from the situation, and did a great job helping me know what was happening. Couldnt ask for more from the primary point of contact. Thank you OakVet – I hope we dont need your services anytime soon, but I feel better knowing youve got us covered.

I brought my cat French Fry in after he had been acting lethargic and sick for a few days. The vets were incredibly quick with intake and checked with me before each test or procedure to make sure I was okay with what they were doing. I appreciated the transparency in pricing as well as their ability to put my mind at ease about my cat and to explain what was going on. Overall it was a positive experience, and French Fry is feeling much better.

I have taken my dog to this clinic twice in a span of less than three months. I think they are professional and very knowledgeable. -Yes, the wait time is long, but if it werent for them, I would have had to wait a lot longer for my own vet, since they are not open on weekends and completely booked at all times.Price wise, it can become expensive, depending on treatment, but I dont think they overcharge you. My second visit, because my dog didnt need any treatment, I was just charged the basic rate, and I went home with peace of mind after knowing an experienced vet had taken a look at my dog.If you have an emergency with our pet, I recommend this clinic. Id go back again (fingers crossed I dont have to anytime soon).

I brought my dog in January for a double knee surgery because she has luxating patella, or chronically dislocating knees. They said the surgery went perfectly. Shortly after the recovery period I started to see her limping occasionally again and took her back in (April). I would literally FEEL her knees popping out sometimes when I was holding her. Dr Grange still told me everything had been a 100% success and everything looked fine. So despite my reservations I trusted his word. Now, in August, my dog’s knees have still been popping and sometimes she’s refusing to walk due to her limping. She is only a year and a half old. I called him again and he said he wouldn’t see her unless I took her back to my primary vet care provider so I did, and my vet confirmed what I had suspected but didn’t want to be true: the surgery was a failure and she said it was completely apparent how much her knees were dislocating and popping out.A failed $8000 surgery is one thing. If it had been addressed in April, I would have been saddened but understood. All surgeries are risks.Denying it and telling me things were perfect when I literally felt her knees popping and saw her limping: I’m just at a loss for words.

Cardiologist visit was a four month wait but worth it. Dr. Williams is the 6th cardiologist Ive worked with (across 5 states) and I am really glad my friend recommended him. He explained everything and was easy to talk to. He listened to my concerns and was very respectful. He also gave me options that others hadnt thought to bring up before that would increase my dogs quality of life even at her old age. The prices are also very reasonable for SF and the quality of service. Check in was very easy in the parking lot. I filled out the form online before arriving.

Thank you OakVet Hospital for taking care of my baby Topshe (cat). Topshe seem to have a bad ear infection - he was wobbly and falling off while trying to walk. Urg! broke my heart. OakVet staff were friendly, considerate and prompt. The doctor was very patient explaining his diagnosis and help me understand the possible issues. Later the next day, they even followed up on my babys health. Further, they were prompt to send the detail reports to my primary vet upon request. Though I wish no one should need to take their furrys to an emergency, but in case they do, OakVet would be my first choice.

Friday, July 16 was a horrible night for us. Our baby girl Pepper was in so much pain. We drove all over the city looking for a 24 hour vet that could help us. We called Oak Vet and explained our situation. They were understanding and compassionate. They told us that they would help us so we drove over there. But Pepper did not make the drive. She passed on our way to the hospital. They were so professional when they realized what had happened to our baby girl. They took her away to check if she still had a pulse. They confirmed that she had passed. Oak Vet made sure we were able to say goodbye to our baby girl. It was a heart wrenching night but their professionalism gave me a sort of peace. Knowing that they would take care of her until we get her ashes. Thank you again Oak Vet for answering your phone that night.

We took out 3 year old dog to this place due to complications with pregnancy. Sunday 6/13 the first puppy was stuck in the birth canal and a second puppy very week in her belly. We were told by the technician that our was doing fine and even though we opted for a c-section they said it’d be better to wait it off because prep her for surgery it’d be 45min. First puppy was delivered naturally and in the process the baby died.Because the puppy inside was dead this hospital deemed that it was no longer an emergency even though we had approved surgery. The technician stated that there was one surgeon who was operating on a cat and that we should take our dog and if the DEAD puppy is not delivered naturally then surgery at our primary vet would be needed no longer that 48hrs.Our Lola was discharged with a DEAD body inside of her but no pain medication nor antibiotics to prevent an infection. Please note that ultrasound and X-ray clearly state that there’s one puppy inside and the narrative explains how the heart beat was weak until the baby died.Next day, just hours after Lola was discharged, a foul odor alerted my mother to check on Lola, a dead puppy was being ejected It. Lola was rushed back to this place. I get on the phone with a male technician whose first words were “I need your authorization to treat Lola and I’m going to ask you for a lot of money”.I approved $950 in critical care treatment, a few hours later a receive a phone call from the receptionist asking me to approve 48hrs of hospitalization. I started asking for status to which she said she’d have someone with more details.I talked to Jennie [sic] who is the technicians manager and she had no clue about the status on Lola, instead she said that out of the $950 they used $350 for an X-ray to check if there was another puppy inside. Yes, this is after they already had X-rays and an ultrasound supposedly confirming there was only one from the night before. She said Lola had a very low glucose level and they had to run several lab works but when I requested her medication records only one lab work was performed and according to Dr Andrew Grange who is the CEO and owner of this place, Lola had low glucose but the lab work was done after she had given a medication that raised her glucose, which is interesting because they never provided evidence that her glucose was low.Later on that day after approving more treatment and yes more money ($2900 approx) Dr Danielle Pollio called me and said that Lola’s uterus was punctured and it would have to be removed, she then said “in other words it’s a spaying, but because it’s done an an ER it would be $9000”. She then proceeded to say that even with surgery there was not a guarantee that she would survive. What is interesting is that the ultrasound report doesn’t state anything about an ruptured uterus but they do recommend a laparotomy. An ovariohysterectomy (spaying) it’s usually about $200 and while it is understandable that an ER will be more expensive, 4000% is outrageous.Lola died and it took me three weeks to receive requested information on her treatment. Different versions even negative attitude from the hospital manager Teresa Binion who agreed the treatment didn’t go 100% correct. It took days after the initial contact to be able to schedule a phone call and even then she was not even prepared with supporting records nor familiar with the case. She even read to me contradicting notes such as “Julie said: owner is not able to pay treatment here”. Falsification of records, bad customer service, zero transparency and accountability but worst was their negligence on 6/13 to considered that surgery to remove a dead body was not an emergency.I consulted with two vets and they both agreed that it always an emergency to remove a dead body from the dog’s belly. Dr Andrew Grange said that it could be weeks before the dead body would decompose. At the end this place seems to care only for money, and they will give you the run around if you ask for transparency

This place removes negative reviews from Facebook and the original review in Google was acknowledge with deceiving remarks of the incidents.Yes Dr Grange reached out after several attempts were made to get a full record and explanation of events. After three weeks of requesting information the hospital manager Teresa Binion scheduled a call with me after a week of finally making contact via email. You’d think she’d be prepared with all details on the case but she came to the meeting with zero research or background on the case. I find it very disturbing that the CEO would claim that a lot effort has been put in this case when he had to get involved and even he had to send an X-ray image from 6/13 which was requested many times and his office was not able to do so.Now on the response from tech lead Jennie [sic] gave one story of Lola’s treatment and the reason why an X-ray on 6/14 when the X-ray on 6/13 song of al the notes and ultrasound refer to only one puppy inside of Lola, one heart beat, on dead puppy but yet on 6/14 Dr Pollio didn’t review previous days records and did an exploratory X-ray. Dr Grange said that because it is protocol if a pet is in crural care they just act to treat them without wasting time looking for previous records. He also told me that glucose levels shows high in the lab work results they sent me but he said that Dr Pollio saw Lola’s glucose low and tests were done after medication was give which raises her glucose. That makes sense but where is the initial lab work that shows her glucose low?Dr Grange also mentioned that Dr Worden discharged Lola on 6/13 with a dead body and it is ok to have a dead body because it could take weeks to decompose so that is no harm for Lola.Other vets disagree and even people not in medical field agree that leaving a dead body put at risk Lola’s life. While I got three different stories from OakVet of the incidents, Dr Granger took the time to explain his version which is still does not justify the lack of integrity and ethic for what happened. You can see the attached pictures that show lab work, notes from the Dr deeming not an emergency, X-ray that shows one puppy on 6/13 but yet they took another one on 6/14 looking for more puppies.More tintes (screenshot available) show where I indicated permission to do anything needed to save Lola regardless of cost, well Teresa the Hospital manager on our telephone meeting said “You know how many people say that and when they see the price tag they don’t” and to make it even worst some lady by the name Julie entered a note saying that “owner can’t afford treatment”Dr Grange thanks for the explanation provided which still doesn’t justifies the lack of integrity shown by your team. If everything was so transparent then it should had taken weeks of run arounds and not providing all images and records, not just bit and pieces.I sent an amicable attempt to get to the bottom of this and Teresa was extremely rude and not cooperative. I’ve been very patient and always kept a very respectful demeanor which has not been reciprocal. If any images or records contradicts my narrative then I will be glad to make the proper edits to my reviews. I own my mistakes and take feedback very professionally, that is the best way to maintain credibility. Please understand that my comments and review is solely base on what your hospital provided.Lola died because someone at your hospital didn’t care to take her condition and or lack of resources. There are several reviews in Nextdoor similar to what I went through when customer approved treatment and your techs said they had no one available. This should be an eye opener to make a correction rather than finding excuses for this type of incidents

I brought my dog in for an emergency and they are great. I like that they are organized -- in the parking lot are laminated signs explaining the procedure to start an on-line intake form, someone came out right away to check in with me and let me know the wait time and what I could expect. The Vet tech was empathetic and best of all helpful and informative. It was a long wait because my dogs emergency was not life threatening to my dog, and the wait was worth it. Im so glad they triage so if a pet comes in with a more urgent problem, of course, that pet should get treated immediately. My dog was fully taken care of, all my questions were answered and the price was more reasonable than any emergency vet Ive been to in the past. Also, they have a porta-potty in the parking lot. Thank you for that! Also, I appreciate that their system is set up for low to no contact. I so much appreciate that being autoimmune. So five stars for being clear, organized, reasonably priced and excellent care.

I was really pleasantly surprised when they called me to check in on my dog the day after he was discharged. I also had to call them to consult with a nurse a couple of days after my dogs visit and they were able to answer my questions. I would definitely recommend! One thing to know is that you can wait a long time depending on the severity of your pets injury/illness and how busy they are that day. My pet was stable so he wasnt at the top of the priority list to be seen by a doctor and I ended up waiting about 6 hours from start to finish. (They checked his vitals as soon as he came in and monitored him). Oakvet is upfront about wait times and theyre transparent about how they prioritize their patients. I didnt mind waiting and youll have a better experience if you go in with the expectation that you will need to wait.

This review is only about their communication, because my dog didn’t actually get treated. I dropped him off no problem, a tech took him in and I waited in the car. 1 hour in with no update, I was feeling nervous and called to check. I was on hold for 15 minutes. 4 different times someone asked me if I’d been helped, and I gave the same info over and over. Finally they said my dog was resting comfortably in his “suite.” I was like, crate? Kennel? I want to know where he is. She told me he wouldn’t be able to see the vet for 4-5 hours. So, I understand they’re busy. And my dog wasn’t in immediate danger (I figured). But were they ever going to tell me? Or were they going to have me wait for 6 hours in the parking lot getting more and more freaked out? I’m sure the vets are good, but the communication seemed really disorganized. I asked for them to just bring my dog out and it’s been 20 minutes, no dog yet. I guess I’ll call again? If Berkeley Dog and Cat has space, I recommend going there! We tried this place out because they were busy, but I’ll try to avoid it again if possible.

My car battery died, as well as 2 others, and one of the employees jumped all of our cars, which was wonderful.Lesson learned though. Definitely a terrific place. I think if I ever want to go there again, Ill ask 1st if they think its an emergency. Terrible, horrible day. But plus side, my dog is fine now.

I have been to OakVet two times with my cat. Both where emergency visits and they were everything I needed and expected. The vets, the tech and the staff are all very helpful, kind and caring. They are quick too, they keep you updated with all procedures. They are transparent with all costs and give you different options for the health of your pet. They are my first choice to go to in any emergency or urgent matter. I have also been to other places around Oakland, San Leandro and Alameda. OakVet is by far THE BEST!

Living 5hrs from specialty services can be a logistical nightmare. My 12 yr old feline had been developing growths on the right side of her head along with a worsening eye problem. Our local vet suggested the need for diagnostics like a CT scan that they couldnt provide and referred me to the VCA hospitals in Sonoma County. What a nightmare they were just to get an appointment - rigid, inflexible, dishonest and ready to gouge - the worst of a big corporate-like hospital - thats VCA. Meanwhile, my kittys condition was worsening and she needed to be seen, so I went to OakVet. The staff were friendly and knowledgable. They couldnt make any promises about getting her in for more in-depth treatment so last minute but the tests that they did provide were very helpful and enough to inform me of kittys condition. Not a good prognosis but gave me relief in finally knowing. Overall, my experience was very positive.

My primary vet is an emergency vet but they were too busy so they gave me a referral for OakVet, and a few others in the area. OakVet was the first to respond, so, I went with them. From the start, they took the time to be caring and helpful, even though I knew they were busy. The vet who cared for my pet (Dr. Lee) spent more time with me on the phone explaining and answering my questions than I’ve ever had with a doctor, human or pet! From the receptionists to the vet techs to the doctors, I felt like everyone really cared for my dog, even without having a prior relationship with us. I would not hesitate to bring my dog there again (hopefully won’t need their services again, but I’d go there over my primary vet in an emergency if I had to chose). Thank you for all you do!

OakVet was amazing in caring for my 13 year old bulldog! I brought him in for an emergency operation during the week of Christmas and OakVet saved his life. The doctors were so thorough in discussing all of our options and took great care of him. I couldn’t be happier with this practice, from the doctors, to the vet techs to the administrative process. They were upfront about everything and quick to take action. Thank you for everything!

I was super impressed with the care Oakvet provided to our puppy Cheese. We normally visit East Bay Veterinary clinic but had an after hours emergency and needed a hospital. We arrived at 1am with a sick pup and were admitted immediately. The technician, Allison, and our vet, Dr. Sunenshine, were both very kind and super informative. We went home with a very clear care plan, and when we called with a question the next day, they were again friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend.

Cons: long wait timesPros: super kind staffveterinary doctors that are very thorough and clear with diagnosis/care planI woke up with my 2 year old black indoor/outdoor cat with an open abscess near the base of her tail, our regular vet referred us to OakVet. I had never been before and knew they are a fairly new hospital so i was nervous, but overall i had a very positive experience!I did wait 7 hours but the care we received was worth it! All the staff that we talked with were very caring and the big plus for me was how thorough, clear, and detailed my consultation was with the veterinary doctor. In my previous experiences, veterinary doctors are not very clear and tend to rush through appointments so it was really reassuring to have someone that answered all my questions, i didn’t feel rush, and i felt complete power over my pets care. They were super compassionate and made sure I had a clear understanding of my pets care.In a time where your pets health is at risk, its comforting to know that OakVet will care for your pet with the same level of compassion and high quality that one expects and needs!PS my bill was around $300 for antibiotics, pain killers, wound cleaning, ER visit, and sedation. Well worth it in my opinion and will be happy to go again, but hopefully not. :-)

I have had three emergencies that brought me to OakVet, the last one for a severe urinary obstruction in one of my cats, for which he had to be hospitalized for 48 hours. Every time I have been very happy with the expediency of the service (granted, if theyre busy you might have to wait for a few hours, but you still feel cared for), the bedside manner of the veterinarians and the assistants, and with the quality of care. When my cat was hospitalized, the daytime and nighttime vets kept me thoroughly updated on his progress, and after I brought him home, I called several times with questions and received quick, knowledgeable, and kind responses every time. I dont get the same kind of care from my cats regular veterinarian! I highly recommend OakVet. Just call ahead to find out what your wait time might be so youll know if you need to bring a meal and settle into to a book or Netflix.

I had a very positive experience! I called ahead and was told to come quickly because the wait was very short. I hurried over and waited about ten minutes before they brought my dog in. They called from inside (I waited in the car) to ask questions and discuss treatment, then again to get my approval for the estimate and to pay a deposit, then for final payment and treatment plan. I was done in less than 90 minutes. This was a Friday morning about 8 AM. They were extremely friendly and provided thoughtful treatment.

We brought our 11-1/2 yrs old Miniature Schnauzer Ashes to Dr. Williams for a heart check as her murmur had gotten significantly worse since her last check up in June. Dr. Williams was thorough, explained everything fully, went over the procedures he recommended and came up with a treatment plan that should help Ashes live a happy and comfortable life, hopefully for some years to come. I would recommend OakVet Animal Specialty Hospital for anyone who loves their pet and wants the best possible care for them. Value to me means money spent gives us something we want or need. Staff was friendly. We spent 2 hours waiting in the parking lot before going to another vet who could see us just 10 minutes away. I’m confident there’s a better solution than having people wait in a parking lot indefinitely.Thankfully they’re checking vitals and assessing order based on severity. They weren’t able to help us, and we spent too much time waiting for calls that never came.

My furry baby was having trouble breathing and although the diagnosis was not what I wanted to hear, the staff at OakVet did everything they could to make sure I was fully informed of what was happening every step of the way, showed incredible compassion, and made me feel comfortable with leaving my little kitty there over night. They followed up with me multiple and have been a joy to work with. Highly recommend.

Hello, I was there on Saturday and I have a question. I totally understand that emergencies come first and my cat was not an emergency. What I do not understand is why, since I was told that it was going to be a 6 hour or more wait, I had to sit in the parking lot in 85 degree heat and was not able to go home and wait for the call. Considering that it was a phone call not an in person consultation with the doctor it really does not make sense to me. I am able to talk on the phone at home as well as in my car in your parking lot. I also noticed someone brought their dog in and was able to leave it. Can someone tell me why i was supposed to sit there for 6 or more hours?Add on- I called them last night with what my regular vet said was an emergency. I called to see if I could make an appointment to bring my cat in for a blood transfusion which my regular vet said was necessary. I was told they do not make appointments for emergencies, I should just come in and it was a minimum 5 hour wait. Again I asked if I could go home to wait for the phone call. Again, I was told no I had to wait in the parking lot. Why? My phone works everywhere not just in your parking lot. It is not like I was going to actually see the doctor, it was going to be a phone call to discuss what should be done. I know I cant be the only person who finds it ridiculous to have to sit in a parking lot for 5,6,7 or more hours just to talk on a phone. I wanted to go to this vet because it is only 10 minutes away from my house but I guess I am going to have to find one who doesnt believe my time is of no value so I should just sit there for many many hours.

Visited last weekend and very disappointed. Very inefficient process, had to repeat my cats health history to 5 different employees, fill out forms both electronically and manually, sit in the parking lot for 3 hours without being allowed to leave before my cat was even examined, Dr. Lee was condescending during our phone consultation, Tim, Blake and David were the only people on the team with good customer service skills, was sent home with 5 medications that my pet doesnt even need, expensive to boot.

After a horrible accident on April 3rd I rushed my male cat to OakVet for emergency treatment for one of his rear legs. I had previously been to OakVet with a foster dog I was caring for and was very happy with the treatment that dog received. Needless to say I was freaking out due to the situation my cat had been through and fearing he was going into shock. My cat was admitted quickly and given pain meds straight away as I requested. At every point OakVet staff were prompt and informative. During our actual care as well as thinking back on that day, there is not one thing that they could have done to make me more at ease with my cats care. The staff and Veterinarians are wonderful communicators and the process is well laid out for clarity. God forbid we should have another pet accident, but if I do I know that OakVet is where we are going.Thank you OakVet staff for your work & compassion! This was my first time here after being referred there by Muttville. I was very impressed by the staff and the thoroughness of the Veterinarians in explaining what was going on with the foster dog I brought in.I will return here again for pet care.
