As a former hospital spiritual caregiver at an out-of-state world class hospital system, I had a really disappointing personal experience in the ER over the weekend. First, I was surprised that I signed in with a security guard at the reception desk? Once in the facility I was given expert care and I really liked the techs, nurse and doctor. But here’s my issue: NO ONE CHECKED ON ME. I knew it was busy but I didn’t want to languish unnecessarily. I was also strapped by machines on both hands so I couldn’t get up to drink water or use the bathroom. An elderly man in the bed beside me screamed for help so I decided to do the same. 😩 I finally called the ER and they said they were busy. I also asked a family member to call.THAT’S WHEN THE β€œWE ARE BUSY” SHAMING STARTED. The guy who finally heard me yellingπŸ₯Ί for a glass of water strolled into my space with an attitude. I took the water because it had been hours and I was thirsty. The nurse and the doctor also made me feel like I shouldn’t complain because they were so busy.I knew I had to wait for a second test BUT what I didn’t expect is to be ignored. I wasn’t informed of the result of the first test so I didn’t know if they were returning to give me the second test.A person I know had a similar experience of being left alone for hours. It doesn’t take but a few seconds to check on patients.I guess I expected common empathy and courtesy. I won’t ever return to this hospital.

Do Better at hiring kind people. People come here to feel better, and the fact that security staff act so stupid. I am sitting right infront of the emergency side, watching your security staff scream at patients who conditions dont look good. Come on Summit!!!!! Do Better! I don’t understand what is the need to treat others badly if they don’t like there job why work here.

Horrible experience and absurdly high bill. Like other reviewers mentioned, They were not transparent up-front about how much services would be. They billed my insurance an absurd $18,000 ($3k of which I had to unfortunately pay out of pocket) to conduct blood test, urine test, and CT scan - all to eventually tell me that they could not diagnose the cause of my abdominal pain and to go home and rest. Really disappointed as I had asked prior to agreeing to the CT scan how much it would cost me, and the doctor said he didnt know, and just gave me reasons as to why I should just go through with it. Lack of transparency, not to mention that I needed to wait over 6 hours to see the doctor, went in 6PM, finally saw doctor at 12AM, and left the hospital at 3AM. Do NOT come here if you can help it.

The average wait time to be seen for ER in California is a little over 5 hours and here is no exception, so unless you’re about to die, expect to wait a few hours at least. Some of the equipment needs to be checked; when it wasn’t throwing question marks, the pulse oximeter on my finger said I was nothing short of a medical miracle for a few minutesβ€”heart rate < 30bps, O2 sat

I have been rear ended now FOUR times, plus had numerous other injuries, so i have way too many horror stories of ER visits. Being treated like a number instead of a human, having repeated requests being ignored, and staff acting like i was a waste of their time. But THANKFULLY this experience was the exact opposite. Even during this time of Covid, where frontline workers are stretched to their max, they realized how much extreme pain i was in and immediately began the process to help bring my pain down, then on to x-rays etc... Every single step of the way-- from the xray tech, to the admissions person, to the nurses and doctors, i was listened to and treated like a human being in duress rather than a waste of their time. i am so deeply grateful to this team. i am sure there are off days and some staff who are not as thoughtful and caring and helpful as my team was that day. But to me, my team on this day, were like angels that blessed me in a really hard time. i will forever be grateful to them for the way they treated me. i only wish more ERs and medical teams were this competent and caring.

Don’t come here every km trying to figure out how to report this. Came here two times because i was missed diagnosed. I sat here 4 hours and had to take an ambulance to another hospital. The triage nurse was so rude and refused to speak to me after I sat there for four hours in pain. Worst experience ever.

I found everyone in this Emergency Department to be courteous, friendly and knowledgeable. Everything was handled efficiently and my consultation with Dr. Jenna Dean was outstanding. My thanks to all the staff and nurses and to Dr. Dean.

No kind of urgency or empathy shown by the staff up front. I have a surpressed immune system and waited over 1.5 hours with a 104 fever.Update: once I was given a bed, the team was very attentive. Giving 3 stars mostly because of the intake/triage process.

You’re better off driving an extra mile to somewhere better. The ER β€œdoctors” just prescribe the same meds to each person who walks in.

Registration here is such a fail. Ive been here four hours. The lady at registration department registered all the people who came after me first and she practically left me behind. My head will explode and no one cares. Zero stars should be an option.

I brought my son over the weekend as he had a heavy chest pain, short breathing, and coughing heavily and with excruciating pain. He was admitted in another ER hospital the day before. This was at 2:45 AM. The front desk person registered us in but we were surprised that they did not let us in immediately. There were only 2 person in front of me. The staff told me that they are shifting nurses and waiting for open bed bed. My son continued to be in pain, and at 3:30 he was still not admitted and tended. I peeked inside and I see some nurses talking and laughingn like normal in emergency, and I asked a different lady at this time in the front if they can see my son and she was very annoyed and iterating the same thing but this was 45 minutes after!!! and you are still changing nurses?????? what the hell? My son continued to be in pain and I decided to leave this hospital and took him to a different Sutter health facility in San Francisco and this was at 4:30 AM. And within 5 minutes he was tended immediately and taken care of. He was diagnosed with pneumonia and given heavy dose medicines to remove his pain. I will give 5 stars to that facility. It is amazing that Sutter has this emergency facility as bad as the Alta bates one. Please if you can drive further try to stay away from this facility especially late at 2 AM!!!Management, please take a look at your staff and train them how to know who to tend someone in extreme pain and let alone to be diagnosed a pneumonia! it is pretty much same thing with stroke or heart attack!! At this time my son is recovering thanks to the team in the other Sutter Facility Center.

I dont like leaving bad reviews but maybe Ill just say dont come here unless youre almost sure youre going to die... may be worth the drive to get somewhere else and you could be seen sooner. They seem very understaffed for the size of the facility. Caution

Took good of grandmother after some diabetic problems though the doctor kept telling her things along the lines that we (her family) dont care about her which made her cry. I was visiting from Richmond every day and various other family members were every day too. When I was there I never saw the doctor. Nurses were friendly and helpful despite the strike that was happening at the time.

ER is fine but the follow-up with ICU Intensivists (doctors) are poor. They are arrogant, rude, did not care to talk or explain to patient or family members. Nurses marked off the chart for patient care as q2h (every 2 hours) when in reality they check my dad every 3 or 4 hours, sometimes only once at night. Alarms go unanswered for a long long time. If your loved one is hospitalized here, you need to be a patient advocate and stay on top of things.

Friendly, with some truly excellent people, though perhaps slightly understaffed. Also rather expensive with a visit to the ER costing $5,069 + any imaging & labs - insurance payments & adjustments. Hopefully you have better insurance than my garbage $325/month Anthem Bronze 60 D HDHP EPO plan.

Their ER doctors did stitch me up, but their follow up and billing services were a nightmare that took years to resolve. If you ask in writing not to be given opiates, your wishes ought to be respected. If you ask for police to be called so that you can file a report, that ought to have happened by the time you are discharged.
