By far one of the most knowledgeable down to earth doctors who cares about your perspective, opinion and feelings I have ever been to. Not only does he use research to back his suggestions but also takes into consideration your outcome and goals of care. Excellent bedside manner and kind hearted.

Dr. Schafer, and his very helpful office, is a gift of a doctor. He is very generous and thoughtful with his time and consideration. I feel lucky to be seen by such an excellent, thorough, and caring doctor.

During the appointment:• He carefully studied old files from my retired hematologist.• He asked precise questions about details of my medical history and drilled down into the NYPH Weill Cornell computer data for 15-year-old blood tests. • He went through each of my current meds—then probed my aging memory for HOW LONG Id been on each med? (First doctor to ever ask me that.)• And he had answers for my questions—thoughtful and understandable.Dr Schafer appears to be a scientist who takes a thorough, inquisitive interest in his patients cases. Based on my first visit Im thinking he could become my Sherlock Holmes of Blood.

Dr Schafer and staff were very professional and took the time to listen to my concerns and he explained the issues concerning my diagnosis. We were not rushed and Dr Schafer explained all options and ensured I understood them.

My mother had a video visit with Dr. Schafer a few days ago and I must say this is probably the best doctor in his field. As a hematologist he is such an expert in his field that I was in awe of Dr. Schafer’s breadth of knowledge and his expertise clearly showed when he asked the right questions to my mother who just underwent breast cancer surgery and as a result had a blood clot on her right leg.He really took his time to get to know my mother’s history not only as it related to the blood clot but as a person first and foremost and for that I am truly grateful to this doctor because I know how mom is feeling and he truly put her at ease.His diagnosis was not merely based on his opinion but it was backed my scientific facts and studies which was truly refreshing to me as a Teacher. I would grease him higher than a 5 out of 5 because it is really hard to find a doctor that not only specializes in hematology but also in making patients feel at ease which is what he did with my mother.I would say if you want the best doctor to take care of you in case of a blood clot or any other hematology related issue then Dr. Schafer is, no holds barred, the best doctor to provide that care.
