When is it okay not to notify the wife or any family who sits waiting for hours to hear from the performing doctor, who assured you several times , he will notify you after performing the procedure. Neither the nursing staff in the ICU or recovery called my phone which is in the records as the contact person. Sitting and waiting for a family member for more than six hours without even given a contact number in the hospital just in case something like this happens. Its totally unheard of the staff at such a prestigious hospital being irresponsible not notifying any family member when the patient left the operating room. Between the surgical staff and anesthesic staff didnt think it was necessary to inform the wife. Surely their was enough staff in the operating room to do this. Why did it come that this happened. There are protocols in placed. How did this happen?

One would think that this is a COLUMBIA university hospital the service / system would be fantastic. Well, Its NOT.If you did your blood work, EKG, or X-Rays at the testing center make sure you follow up. Otherwise, they lose your test. You can call the hospital to find the record but the hospital will transfer you about 5 times and at the end, they will hang up. It is plainly the most frustrating experience ever. This isnt only the problem with the Heart Center. I found that this is a general problem with Columbia Hospital. The actual doctors may be qualified and great but the supporting staffs are just so very aweful. Terrible terrible.

Disrespectful to family and patient. Unprofessional and unorganized. They are understaffed and respond to patients calls no sooner than 30+ minutes. Good reputation at ICU but once they move patient from ICU to recovery room... they literally don’t care. If the patient isn’t dying or connected to a million things they don’t care. Either you’re dying... or you and the family are treated like garbage. The two nurses that didn’t come close to representing what a real RN is suppose to be go by the name hailey and the night one which was Patrick. They took their time and saw no need to respond to patient. The doctor was hurendous. So disrespectful and didn’t answer questions. And when she did she would make the head doctor answer, when we were clearly asking HER why SHE decided to do what she did to the patient. And then to top it off ... the feeling of the garden 5 south department is slow. No one is in a rush to do anything. Machines will beep for hours and no one will come to turn them off. Not caring that it WILL wake the patient up. These patients aren’t in ICU where they are sedated... on the other hand they are clearly awake and having them sleep for at least an hour would be a miracle. But how can they possibly do that if nurses and doctors come in as they please to chit chat to each other and then nurses leaving machines to beep for hours? If we werent here to go and hunt for a nurse every time a machine beeped they would let it beep till they found it convenient to turn it off. I’m so over this place. Please do yourself and loved one a favor... don’t over look the hospitals that don’t have “great” reputation. Because the first one we went to was a hospital like that and we so wished we were there right now because we saw actual 1-1 care. Not 1-5. As I write this the beep is going on for another patient and it’s been already 20min. Great job!

Great reputation terrible treatment of patients and unorganized. Theres no reason someone should check in at 630 am get surgery at 800am and be stuck in the recovery room until 900pm.....total bs.The excuse of there being no rooms in insufficient considering the surgery my wife is having has a 5 day minimum recovery. Lack of planning and compassion for the patient.I guarantee if shes one of Dr Ozs rich f***ing patents wed have a room faster. Total class discrimination. So now they just told us all f***ing all night we will be here. Unbelievable disorganized sh***y hospital. Dr Gorenstein is the dr I blame for this cluster f**k.
