The rules at the YMCA, sometimes are just bizarre. This includes mostly rules for people under 18. I feel like some manager just made up all the rules to their liking. There needs to be more flexibility.

Staff are very helpful. Very spacious and clean facility. Diverse people using the space. NCAA size pool. Towel service provided. Clean showers and swim clothes dryer machine. Small but good sauna.

In general I love this gym including fellow members and my trainer. What I don’t like is that they let homeless people in off the street to wander around the gym. That is not right for a membership club and when you attempt to address it with front desk, they ignore you.

These people are CROOKS!!!! I cancelled my membership, but they kept processing my card, which as you can see from the reviews is a trick that they do. Talked to the manager, she promised to investigate, have reached out multiple times since, and of course havent heard back. CROOKS!!!

Its OK but the primary reason i go is the Pool. Unfortunately the lap swimming is divided into lanes but the Pool staff put absolutely zero effort into policing the lanes regarding the speed of the swimmers within. Many older folks who come to the pool choose to use their time in the water to socialize in the shallow end.If the staff cared they would put swimmers in the appropriate lane.In a properly organized lap Pool there are strict rules so that people who dont have hours to stand about all day can still do a workout in the time they have.

Poor customer service. Stole my money.I cancelled my membership because I was moving out of New York. I abided by their two-week notice policy and filled out a cancellation form in-person. The customer service rep assured me I would not be charged for another month. However, they have continued to charge me, even though I live in a different state and belong to the local Y here. I have called them multiple times and have sent multiple emails. Over the phone I was told that there was no record of my cancellation and that they may have lost it or misfiled it. He said he would get back to me, but still has not. I also emailed the membership coordinator twice. Still no response. It has now been over two weeks.

Clean, respectful environment with sauna inside womens locker room. Amazing weight room and pool. Its nice to see kids, moms, and people of all stages of life taking care if their health. This is a lifestyle not a fad gym. Love it.

Also stole my money!I canceled service May 15th (they make you go in person). Ive been trying to get them to stop billing me since. Ive been there 3 more times, I have receipts of cancelation and they are still billing me. Its September! Manager has never got back to me despite promises. Looks like that there are others here experiencing the same thing.

Young people at that location have the nastiest attitude I have run into. I am talking about teens. Talk about mean girls! I would avoid this location because of that. Plus the quality of weight lifting equipment begs something better. Staff were not helpful either.

I cannot say this place is one of the best swimming pool. But this place has great people. The gym were unique but has a time schelue which bothers me a lot since I live pretty far away from Chinatown. This is a great place to exercise.

We cancelled our family membership while we can all still hear. The noise in the weight room is unbearable, and Y employees dont monitor the sound levels. Unfortunately, the cardio equipment shares an area with newbie weight-lifters who think they can lift their body weight over their heads. They cant. They drop them. Loudly. They dont know this because they are all wired to loud headphones. Not the gym for us.

One of the better YMCAs with a nice swimming pool and lockers. I just wish the Asian aunties would not spread their legs so wide in the sauna...

I was looking for a place to work out and play some basketball on Sundays in and around the Chinatown area. I was told by a friend to try the YMCA on Bowery and Houston. So, checking the site on the computer, i came across some mixed reviews of the place and the staff, some good and some bad. I saw an offer for a free one day pass, which i downloaded, and printed out. A representative from the Y called, by the name Nathan, to confirmed that ill be going there the coming Sunday. It was a pleasant surprise to get that call, and was totally appreciated. So, armed with the pass and a valid ID, i showed up at the front desk of Chinatown Y on Sunday. After patiently waiting my turn, the middle age, white lady at the desk asked if she can help me. Upon seeing my free pass, she said; you,ll have to wait.and proceeded to service the man behind me. I was surprised by her rudeness at the very least. I am a 58 year old asian male, and a businessman with my own business in the service industry. I understand that it is very important to speak to customers with the utmost respect. I felt like i was discriminated against. Was it because i was asian, or was it because I had a free pass instead of cash? Regardless of the reason, I should not be passed over for someone else. I now know what it is to feel like to be treated like a second hand citizen. I finally was let in after filling out some forms and being helped by a young man that was also working at the desk. In all fairness, the rest of the staff was friendly and helpful. Id enjoyed the rest of the day, and had a great time. I definitely would consider joining the Y and telling my friends to join as well. I would give this place a 5 star rating except the earlier experience left a bitter taste in my mouth. The Y would be better served, if they make sure all the people they hire are more friendly and considerate.
