I love being at the gym and pool at the JCC. It is affordable, and the Covid protocols are safe and consistent. The staff are kind and helpful, the facilities are very nice and clean but not luxurious. Mostly, it feels important to be part of a community project. They also have *tons* of online offerings; fitness, lectures, films, etc.

A great location. Offers tons of amenities including pool, gym, basketball courts, classrooms, theaters, yoga, and much more. Membership is expensive, can vary from $70-110 a month. You’d be paying in between YMCA and Equinox prices. I was a member for a couple years before COVID-19 outbreak, and it served me very well.

I’m a member simply for the gym, but I appreciate the many programs offered. I’m not Jewish, but I always feel right at home here. They are welcoming to everyone. The gym is extremely well maintained and staffed with very friendly employees. I love that the gym isn’t trying to be trendy like some of these other bougie places, ahem *Equinox.. they have everything you need to maintain a healthy lifestyle without all the BS. JCC rocks!

JCC is my go to work out spot for when I want to really work out. This is not a scene you wont find oiled up bodies in the latest gym clothes with the intention of working it rather than working out.The equipment is well kept, the staff is friendly, there is a pool, basketball court and even a steam room to relax after a good sweat fest. The JCC offers the popular freewheel spin class and my personal favorite- fluidity which is based off of the core barre method. Not into working on your fitness? Have no fear, the JCC has many options. Drop in for a cooking, handbag/shoe making class or any number of speakers sessions, movies, or shows. They offer special rates for families, summer membership, and young adults- under 26.

I signed up for a basketball membership and cancelled within a month. As a resident of the Upper West Side for many years withmany friends in the Jewish Community, I wanted to share my awful experience at this institution. I recently signed up for the basketball membership after being told that the facility promotes an inclusive, welcoming, participatory environment for all ages and levels. After a month of membership, not only has that not been the case, rather I have been humiliated/ridiculed more than at any other sporting facility.I waited an hour yesterday to play on a pick up team, only to have the other members intentionally refuse to let me touch the ball the whole game. There are cliques of players who intentionally exclude others. This was after a similar incident a couple of weeks previously.Todd Elkins, the director of athletics, stated that he would talk to the players involved to make sure the environment was more inclusive.I was extremely upset about the situation and yet the staff ignored any of my concerns and told me to leave (with security escorting me out). One girl just kept on telling me I dont belong there and wouldnt disclose her name upon request. I asked her how do I not belong if Im a member? Another member (who may or may not be wrong) told me most of the people playing dont even have a membership at all but somehow get into the building ( I actually dont care about this factor but just mentioning it)Its a shame because I was planning on registering friends as well.If you are not part of a clique or predetermined group, youll be treated like you dont exist. Not one staff member was willing to listen to me or address my concerns.Again, no apology or attempt to address my concerns were made by the staff at any point.I am also exploring other avenues and causes of action at the moment.I advise everyone to look for an alternative if you want an inclusive, friendly environment.

A hub for just about everything on the Upper West Side. From physical activities (swimming, aerobics and basketball etc) to entertainment (shows, movies, speakers etc) The JCC in Manhattan has something for everyone. It is impeccably clean and the staff is great; if you live on the Upper West Side the JCC is definitely worth checking out.

I went there for the Reiki community. I got really disappointed and upset by “Pamela Miles”. She is supposed to be a healer but she spreads hate. She was not able to answer my questions about Reiki, she freaked out and radiated negative energy. Sadly she is a crafty businessperson not a spiritual healer.

After umpty years I am finally learning to swim -- nice pool, clean locker room, wonderful and patient swim coach! I also work out in the well-equipped gym, which accommodates people of all ages and degrees of fitness. Dozens of fitness classes, some free and some fee-based, are available. Plus a huge variety of social programs, musical and theatrical events, discussion groups, craft classes, family activities, personal growth programs and more. Theres an extremely popular pre-school program that packs the large lobby space with strollers during certain hours and causes occasional traffic jams of toddlers and parents/nannies, but its hardly a problem. The membership is pricey, but worth it IF you take advantage of what this great community resource offers. If youre not sure whether JCC is for you, Id suggest walking in and picking up a free catalog in the lobby.

Former Jewish community. It is a community space with a deep nostalgia that accepts people regardless of race or religion. My child was taken care of in this swimming class. When I was 6 months old, I kept crying and gave up on the way. When I tried again at the age of three, I was able to swim happily with a big smile. Thanks to the coaches who gave us fun and warm lessons every time.
