This place has its pluses & minuses. Free medical treatments for all United States military veterans with no out-of-pocket charges for most veterans. Ive been treated at other public hospitals and the treatment at the VA is MUCH better. Without the VA, I COULDNT have afforded my surgeries. Most employees are very polite, helpful, professional, & friendly based on my personal experience.

I went in tonight 4/20 at approximately 12am I thought my BP was high and I was not feeling to well just a little dazed. I was greeted by the ER Nurse named Darlene, she quickly ran my vitals and within 5 min. had the doctor in front of me. The Doctor on staff who happens to be a Cardiologist was very professional. They quickly put me at ease when all my stats came looking good. I would like to thank Darlene and the Doctor on staff for all they do...God Bless

The VA takes phenomenal care of my grandfather, but their “SECURITY” is a joke. None are trained the same and I drove 3 hours only to be turned away because I’m not on the “list” although I’m in his orders and have been told numerous times I’m allowed up. 3 stars simply because they care for my grandpa, but if you’re not a veteran, they don’t care.

The VA system here in South Florida is about as much of a pathetic joke as the one in Minneapolis, MN. I needed to speak with someone at the Sunrise VA location and was treated in an extremely rude manner by the (so-called) Receptionist who answered the phone...not only was she incredibly rude but also inarticulate and hard to understand what she was saying. I had to repeat myself 3 or 4 times (each time I was polite, but my BP was going up and up and UP while dealing with this individual) and I was hung up on MID SENTENCE. When I attempted to call back? I was immediately hung up!!!!! The third time I asked to be transferred to HR to speak to a Supervisor or the person in charge of personnel to lodge a complaint. I was laughed at by the operator and transferred to a generic VM boxWhen I contacted the Miami VA? I was told that there was NO HR at the Sunrise location. Also, I was lied too by the Sunrise VA location when I was informed that my personnel information was (supposedly) not in the system. It turns out that is and was verified by the Miami VAThe way I was spoken too by the Civilians working at the Sunrise VA location was despicable and I WILL NOT TOLERATE IT OR LET IT GO. I have a background as a Recruiter, I work with large, medium and small businesses who are my Clients. I am networked on Social Media, Major Sports Entertainment, Local News Media, Healthcare/Nursing,, Universities, HR/Recruiting Groups as well as Veteran Support Groups.I am going to be discussing this situation with everyone I know and I WILL let them all know that The VA System and the location in Sunrise is a pathetic organization, a despicable location and neither one truly cares about Veterans whatsoever.Once again, The VA has shown its true colors and has proven once again that it employs Civilian employees who are low lives and absolute scum bags who dont give a damn about Veterans and are there only to collect a Government paycheck

So obviously case you need to pay attention to. He is goin for full body check every 6 months.I kindly ask this young girl who was suppoed to do his check and who I refuse to call doctor/dermatologist to check also under his underwear. He was back in 5min., she didnt looked anywhere, she didnt even check head nothing. I told him to go again to this private dermatologist and look at the PHOTOS!!! He found 8 suspicious moles which needs biopsy to see if any of them are melanomas and one needs to be excised immediately. AT VA HE BEEN TOLD AFTER 5MIN. OF WACK UNPROFESSIONAL CHECK THAT ALL IS GOOD AND HE IS GOOD TO GO!!!THIS IS HOW YOU TAKE CARE OF PEOPLE WHO RISK THEIR OWN LIFE FOR YOUR COUNTRY?!SHAME ON YOU!!!!!If is anything LIFE IMPORTANT rather spend $ on it then put your trust into this place they call a hospital.

The AOD, I believe her name is Desirae, saved the day. She went above and beyond to resolve my emergency! I spoke to many people prior to her that were just dead ends. She represents the Miami VA Hospital with high customer service skills and professionalism. I was highly disappointed before speaking with her. She changed my opinion of that hospital, especially since I’m calling long distance from the New Orleans VA asking help. Thank you so much for saving a life through your administration. It’s not just the nurses that save lives. It is people like you that go above and beyond to listen and attack the task at hand rather look for a reason to transfer or get off the phone. I came to the hospital due to COVID symptoms (shortness of breathe). I had to drive around several times to find parking, when I finally made it inside they informed me they had no more beds so I had to wait in the waiting room. It took about two hours before they can see me. Also, while in the waiting room I notice a roach which shows lack of cleanliness.... As veterans we should all have five star service and that’s not how I felt when I came to the Miami VA.

A BIG UPs to the VA ER team on the night I visited (my visit was on 23Jun19 around 8p. I was welcomed by an extremely helpful young man as I entered the emergency room, he was very nice (wish I knew his name, but I remembered, he had a slight airfro). Erica (Sunshine) good mornin was amazing she was very nice and pleasant. Anna RN,  Dr. E. Pulg (Critical Care), Christian H and one other guy sorry...you know who you are were wonderful I making sure I received the care I was seeking. I forgot/lost my meds during my travels to the Miami area on the way on a cruise. I was going to be away from home for a week. I quickly found the closest VA to the hotel I was staying and visited for what I thought would be a dreaded visit, but it was nothing even close to what I received. Everyone took care of me procedurally with the best of care. Being a sister VA (John D. Dingell) employee/veteran I was treated with the best of care and respect. My visit was quick and effective, I got the care I came for and now I can enjoy my vacation without the worry of having a possible health scare, thank you VAMC Miami from #johnddingell #detroit #whereveteranscomefirst #vamcmiami

The place was packed. Upon arrival the attendee stated I was in the computer, but they did not have me scheduled for an appointment. And yet there I stood . After a 4 hr. drive, an over night stay in Miami at an overpriced hotel, and not wanting to get caught in Miamis glorious rush hour traffic during my trip back to Key West . The Normal standard issue non communication problems that always seem to plague the VA is something I didnt need to hear about. I told the guy that if you couldnt get me in that was fine I would just leave because I wasnt going to stand around the VA all day those people couldnt figure out scheduling. He was staring at my name on the computer screen and I was standing in his waiting room. It seemed pretty self-explanatory to me.Somehow The attendee worked it out and apparently got me the appointment that I was supposed to be at. Abput an hour later, I was invited to a room about half the size of a broom closet and ask to change. Looking at the gowns that were overflowing in the trash can and not being able to identify the substance that was on them . I opted to change in the hallway. More room and a lot cleaner. The procedure went well the staff was nice and I had a very nice attendee even escort me out to the front door. Because apparently I look lost.It went a lot better than I expected. But its definitely not the five star service that Veterans of this great nation should be getting. Of course that could just be my opinion.

Upon arrival I had to enroll due to the VA facilities in Las Vegas, Nevada being in a different region. The process was as simple as filling out paperwork and letting the kind intake lady enter my information in to the system. After that easy process was complete I explained why I was there and they had me screened and took my vitals and then it was up to see dermatology on the 12th floor. The doctor and the staff was SUPERB and answered any questions I had and gave me my VA Goodie Bag to take home. I am a reasonable critic of this VA system, can easily, and have oftentimes been mesmerized by the various flaws, system deficiencies, & other needless BS, especially, of all things at a hospital, when encountering apathetic staff & providers. NOTWITHSTANDING, those instances are overshadowed by the greater majority of good hardworking compassionate staff & providers who serve Veterans everyday the best they can!Im grateful to the outstanding staff & providers in SCI unit, truly hardworking compassionate workers. The same of Psychology service being so full of brilliant effective clinicians, its awe inspiring. And Nursing, a God send group of men & women determined to soothe and ensure the Veterans experience is a good one in often critical times. Again, many other services, (Speech/Audiology, Edu, Pharmacy, Records, etc) contribute to make MVAHS a worthy and solidly good corps to serve US Veterans, I am very very grateful to them. Be well...

The event really changed my life and without these ER doctors or doctors on call I wouldnt be here today to make this review. I thank GOD for this Hospital and its Doctors. Godbless

Review №100

Hi,I wanted to write a review about my experience at the Miami VA Hospital.June 11th 2018 I had stomach pain, and thought it was nothing serious, and went to bed with the pain.In the morning on June 12th 2018, the pain began to feel a little better, but by the afternoon/early evening, it started to get worse, and I knew something was seriously wrong.I felt like I needed to go number 2, but when I would sit on the toilet I did not have the urge to go.I thought perhaps I had a blockage or something, but nonetheless, I knew something was really wrong, so I drove myself to the Miami VA Hospital around 6pm-7pm that night, and went to the emergency room. There were 3 people ahead of me, and I was seen by emergency personnel within 30 minutes. The pain was increasing, I described my symptoms, I had a fever, they began to run diagnostics on me.They wanted to do a Cat Scan with contrast, which they did.The Dr read the results as a problem in my appendix, and they wanted to do surgery the next day.I had surgery on June 13th in the afternoon, and when they went in, they found that my appendix had ruptured. My surgeon said that he was able to get 100ccs of puss and other bacterial materials out of my abdomen and pelvic region. My cecum was badly damaged where the appendix attaches to it.My surgeon said that he had to resect more of the tissue than normal and used a couple rows of staples to repair the cecum, and there was a chance it would not work. From the rupture I also had developed Peritonitis, but it was localized in 1 area.I was very lucky, as this can lead to sepsis, multiple organ failure, and death. My Surgeon and his staff were highly skilled, and because of their expertise and competence I lived, and I am starting to feel better.Today is June 28th 2018, and it is 2 weeks and 1 day since the surgery, and I am so thankful for the staff at the Miami VA.From the Emergency room personnel, to the Surgeon and surgery staff, to the recovery personnel, to the Drs who are interns, to everyone else who cared for me, I owe my life to these people.I am humbled and thankful for their help, and great care.I am going to see my Surgeon on Monday July 2nd 2018, and can not wait to thank everyone in person! These people work so hard, and do their best to care for the Veterans. They are such wonderful caring people, and they try so hard to care for us Veterans.Things have not been good for me for a long time, and if it wasnt for the VA System, I would not have health care at all.I love these people like family members.Thank you from the bottom of my heart,Lawrence B. A. USAF
