First and foremost, they misdiagnosed a major illness. MISDIAGNOSED. Unacceptable amounts of waiting even for being understaffed, careless, uncaring, and not very clean. The doctor did not consider the entire history of when symptoms began, and only cared about treating the current symptoms, without even understanding, nor was he willing to understand what she has been going through that led us to going to the hospital in the first place, based on her pediatricians instructions. My daughter who has had various unusual symptoms for over 2 months, was basically diagnosed with migraines and sent away. Had I not persisted and taken her to Phoenix Childrens hospital, i don’t want to think about what could have happened. She has meningitis caused by the West Nile virus, with brain involvement. She’s now facing some other complications and we have been inpatient for over a week now. When people go to the ER, they should be given the care that an ER is designed to offer, not treat patients as if they are in a third world urgent care with limited resources, which is what it felt like. I would like to appeal any bill that this place sends me, because not only did they do nothing, I was barely able to ask any questions as they rushed us out the door and dismissed us, but now we have been dealing with a nightmare that could have been prevented had she been listened to, and cared about. We lost precious time that could have prevented all of this.I hope that my daughter makes a full recovery from the neurological symptoms she’s dealing with. This place needs to do better or just shut down, I honestly don’t know how they haven’t been yet.

I can’t believe the incompetence of this hospital! My 75 year old blind father in law was discharged from there today after a 3 day stay. Because of COVID restrictions, they asked we park at the front to pick him up and they would bring him down. We get him home and open his discharge paperwork to find the medical discharge of another patient. It wasn’t even HIS discharge. So now we have someone else’s medical information! Who knows who got his paperwork. They obviously did not go over discharge with him. And we are filing a complaint with HHS.gov for HIPAA violation! Do NOT go to this hospital!!!

My father was on a ventilator and had a tracheotomy. Whenever I visited him his tube for the tracheotomy kept getting clogged or something, because the machine would start dinging loudly. But the nurse didn’t come help, and my dad was struggling. I looked outside of the room and the nurse is just sitting there chatting with another nurse. This happened every time I visited him. The door was open and the machine was loud, so I know they could hear. Then they’d see me looking, so they would stroll in casually and suction him nonchalantly. No concern shown at all.Another thing, the room he was in didn’t get cleaned properly. One time there was a dry macaroni on the floor. My father wasn’t eating, so who knows how long it had been there. And please tell me why when I talked to one nurse or doctor they’d tell me one thing, and the same day I’d get another story from someone else? And don’t get me started on the day we had to let my dad go. It was a total mess. I would not recommend sending a loved one here. One last thing, the fungal infection he picked up in your ICU is ultimately what killed him.

These people are completely incapable of communicating, have no concept of humanity and have basically made it impossible for me to talk to my loved one while they’re being treated at this hospital, the general attitude when I call no matter who I talk to, has been one of disinterest lack of care in human communication and inability to even organize a simple phone call. I understand that I am out of state but that shouldn’t matter, the ineptitude of the staff is such that I am concerned with the care my family is receiving. In this day and age and at the prices health companies charge this is completely unacceptable.Update, the generic response here from Banner is a form letter asking me for information that is already posted with my account on this website, another example of the inhuman policies and procedures exhibited by this company. Avoid this place like the plague.

I was feeling very badly when I arrived at the hospital on 7/18/2021. I was truly blessed to have some of the most incredible angels caring for me throughout my stay of 5 days. When I was moved to the 3rd floor Observation Unit, the brightest an best angel was caring for me. Steven S. from 4B was that magical Nurse that was not only caring but also very gentle. Thank you with all my heart Steven S. from 4B nursing station, you truly made all the difference in regaining my health and spirits 😇🥰

Theres a reason why the ratings are so low - this is a miserable facility. While I was generally satisfied with most of the nursing staff, I found the doctors uninformed, confused, and disinterested. There were ridiculous delays in getting simple over-the-counter medications, like a Rolaid, and as-needed prescriptions I already had at home approved. Delays in getting radiology results reviewed resulted in my being in the hospital at least one additional day. Following up to get questions answered and copies of test results has been a frustrating and largely futile experience, with hours on hold for medical records (nobody has ever answered that phone) and excuses from the switchboard that ...thats the only number... and ...all the supervisors are in a meeting and unavailable... and ...theres nobody that can help you....

Dont bother going here. Youll wait for 8 plus hours and the employees are anything but what Banners values are, which are prominently displayed. The first one is customer focused. After almost collapsing in the ER from chest pains I waited 7+ hours to be seen. At about the 6 hour mark after almost collapsing I asked the intake RN David where I was in the queue and made it clear I wasnt complaining just looking for an idea of how much longer and he said youre second on the list and I jokingly said so another 2 hours then huh and he rudley said yeah probably and then proceeded to ignore me and started helping someone else.

The nurses take at least 10 to 15 minutes to answer a call and when they go on break forget about anyone coming until they get back. Apparently they dont have others cover their patients while they are gone. The doctors seems bothered when you get a chance to ask simple questions and dont aspect a straight answer because your not gonna get it. If you have a choice go to a different hospital

I have never heard of a worse hospital - and my family has been in healthcare for over 60 years. My elderly Mom was there for an Emergency late Sept 2021. After she was admitted, I could never get in touch with the Nurses station to get any information - the phone would ring for about 5 minutes then automatically hang up. When I finally did reach someone on Hospital staff, they provided little information as to what was discovered and how it would be treated. One nurse was so incredibly rude that another actually had to apologize for him. Mom was discharged with an oxygen tank AND NO INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO USE IT! Its as if the discharge staff just threw it in the back of her car just to get rid of her. I actually had to call a local medical supply company to get information on what to do with it.Do not go here. This place is worthless. If this is the state of our healthcare, we are in serious trouble. This review will most likely fall on deaf ears because they seriously dont care.UPDATE - Oh look below... a canned response from them. How unexpected.

Id hardly call her that. If you get Starla if you want your child in more pain after surgery or late on medication stick with her. If not request someone else. I already knew that, I wanted to know why I was feeling pressure in my leg! I went there for an xray as well and never got it. They just did and ultrasound and said I was good to go. Im really mad because i wasted so much time over there just for them to say what I already knew. Also some of the their staff is so rude! The ones I had were nice but the ones in front of where you get your vitals and IVs done were horrible. They were cussing so much, you wouldve thought they were middle schoolers, and they were doing it in front of patients. If i could make this a zero I would. Last night I went to this hospital in extreme pain. I was crying and yelling, throwing up, was having trouble standing. I was so dizzy I could barely hold my head up. After waiting 20 minutes the pain intensified to something unbearable. I went to the front desk and literally begged for help while i cried. Not only did she tell me no and to sit down she also called security down to “address a hostile situation.” Mind you I could barely stand. I asked them If there was somewhere i could lay down as i felt faint they said no and that the recliners were for “actual patients” I ended up laying on the floor in the waiting room completely ignored by hospital staff. Once security which was actually police officers arrived they began interrogating me about drug use. Even went outside spoke to my husband in front of our children asking what i had taken and if this was drug seeking behavior. So now I’m in pain , scared , humiliated from begging for help only to have the receptionist tell me they wouldn’t take me back for 5 hours and i was free to leave. We then drove across town to a different hospital who got me back, medicated and tested within ten minutes. Luckily they did because i have an extremely large kidney stone that had created a blockage in my urinary tract and if left untreated for that 5 hours they wanted to leave me on the floor there it would have escalated the severity and potentially have been fatal. This place does not care about their patience and they prioritize based on appearance. Though they had a busy waiting room with curtain people showing signs of breathing issues who had already waited 6 hours. I well dressed Caucasian women came in with a scorpion bite and was taken back within 7 minutes of her arrival. She also had someone accompanying her while my family was told to stay in the car never allowed in and questioned by police. I’m disgusted with what i experienced and the people that work there need to remember that they are there to help not to judge. If this had been my appendix (which we thought it was and told them) i firmly believe they would have let me die on the floor. DO NOT GO HERE

This message is directed at Banner Desert leadership NOT nursing staff.Leadership, how dare you think this facility is suitable for medical care? I was at the ER on Monday 5/3. I arrived at 930am and did not have a bed until 130pm. Not only was the intake personnel understaffed for the amount of ppl checking in but the facility itself looked run down and grey, like something out of a third world country. When I got to the room, it was another hour before a nurse practitioner saw me. And I had to wait another hour and a half for the doctor to verify what the NP recommended. The inside looked worse and the bathrooms were gross and are in serious need of remodeling. The staff drew blood and urine samples and I never received those results but will probably get charged for it.Do yourself a favor, dont go here if your health is a priority. Ive seen Burger Kings built in 3 weeks. Maybe leadership can get them to overhaul this emergency facility. The people of Mesa, nurses, and doctors, deserve better than this.

If I could give them less, I would. They sent me back home prematurely while I was in labor…I returned hours later only to wait hours before they could get an anesthesiologist to give me an epidural. I was almost too far gone to get one. My daughter’s heart rate kept spiking and dropping during contractions. This was my first birth and during the pandemic so I did not have my Mom or sister to help advocate for me. They kept hemming and hawing about a c-section. I didn’t think to ask them to ultrasound at the time, but they just assumed she was holding onto her umbilical cord. Hours later of pushing and the baby pushing her back in, we got her out but it required a vacuum. They assured me there were rarely consequences or complications and omitted concerns that they should have disclosed after speaking with a friend in medical school. Turns out her umbilical cord was wrapped around her neck. Half a day in the NICU and now 5 mos later I am having postpartum complications due to the vacuum and excessive pushing. Then they tried to double charge me for the labor when in reality they owed me money back! They then played games with me saying the insurance was in dispute with a charge so they couldn’t refund me thousands of dollars until it was settled and the balance decided. 5 mos later and I finally found out there was no dispute past a week after delivery. They lied and I STILL do not have a refund. I have called a dozen time and each time they lie.GO to any hospital OTHER than a Banner hospital. Labor & Delivery ScamMy wife and I went to banner desert for delivery of our child. We were scheduled for an induction. We paid the co-pay 500$ for delivery/ admittance to postpartum. Billing was explicitly asked if we would would have to pay the co op pay again if we were not ready for the induction that day. Billing staff assured us we would not. After a dilation check we were told by the DR we were not ready, and to come back in 3 days. ..We came back 3 days later and everything went great. Our Dr and nurse were great. Billing stated we were good and nothing was needed on our part.3 months later we got a past due notice for being admitted into the postpartum for our second visit. I called insurance and banner billing trying to explain that we paid on our first trip but we were never admitted. Both parties were apathetic and had no desire to solve the dilemma. ( I am surprised my insurance BCBS didnt care as they were charged 32,000 dollars twice.)We then contacted maternity billing and spoke to Mary who handled us both times. She contacted her manager. They agreed that the charge was made in error and was being settled. She also advised us not to pay it as it was being fixed.18 months later the debt was sold to Revsolve Inc. and they flagged our credit. We are still trying to rectify the situation and will never pay on principle alone. First/only outstanding report my wife and I have ever had on our credit score.(at the age of 36)My advise to you is wait till your admitted before paying, because if you have to come back they may try the same shady fraud on you.

I was advised by urgent care to visit the ER recently.A couple things I’m noticing about most of the negative reviews is that they are from a year ago - I’m certainly not claiming that they’re untrue but I also want to note that all hospital systems were overwhelmed during the height of the pandemic so I gave them a little grace deciding to come here.I was the only one in the lobby and 5-6 others came in after me before I was called back. The nurses at admission were not great. They were hitting the end of their shift and new staff came on a few minutes later. All chatting with each-other, masks off or below their noses, in eye and earshot of the waiting room including a boss reprimanding employees. One patient came in in great distress and their friend had to ask for a blanket on their behalf, it wasn’t offered. The waiting room felt like the Wild West and it was certainly off-putting to hear and see the staff. I get that they’re people doing their job but it’s awkward when it’s on display in front of suffering people.Once I was taken back to an actual room, I felt much better. I was offered a blanket and felt cared for. Blanca was my nurse and she was fabulous, explained how the IV was going to work as I’d never had one before, helped adjust the bed for me to be comfortable. Calls were always answered quickly as I needed to use the bathroom several times. I personally felt like they listened to me and that my needs were addressed. In hindsight I would have liked to see an itemized bill although the charges didn’t seem outlandish. I don’t think I would come back on a busier day simply because I don’t think the waiting room gets better than what I saw as the only patient in the room, but I have to commend Blanca in particular for being great at her job.

Im her power of attorney and when I called to ask them where they sent her with out letting me know they are giving me the run around and acting as if they can’t tell me anything. The above was a few months ago tonight I. Adding to this that they did it again! Ive had to involve the police now because my mother is missing! Horrible place! Not safe at all! Im going to be making an adult protective service report well

Ive used Banner Desert as my primary hospital for several years. I worked in leadership for Banner from 2005 through 2014, and was proud to associate with them. Since I left Ive rated them with 5 stars before, but 1 star now. It shows quickly with disgruntled staff, slow or no response to call bells or alarms, and physicians who fail to follow up, and no one monitors that so you dont receive care -- at least in my direct experience. The Cardiologist assigned to my admission (for a cardiac condition) did not review my chart or see me for over thirty hours, even with my filing multiple concerns with the staff. I repeatedly asked the staff to get him, but finally had to ask to see an administrator before that happened. As a result I had -0- Cardiologist care for a cardiac admission for over thirty hours. At thirty-one hours of stay another Cardiologist finally saw me and dealt with my health concerns, several of which were based on obsolete lab values due to the first cardiologist not updating the values, even after my repeated requests. So what was to be a 24 hour stay became 72 hours because of what could be considered blatant lack of staff concern. With few exceptions, each nurse and aide would apologize because the care was routinely delayed because they were too busy. This is a trend. On my admission 8 days earlier, it was a mantra for the staff - walk into your room and start with an apology because they are too busy. Unfortunately, I was not treated for the cause of the admission then, resulting in a repeat admission 8 days later. And this last stay was as close to experiencing hell as I care to imagine.UPDATEI am impressed that Banners PR staff responded to my negative post so rapidly. To bad you dont get as prompt of a response from Observation staff.Part of my distress with this situation comes some from having been in Banner Leadership for ten years, and being proud of it, but now seeing this behavior, and feeling ashamed for the hospital.I will update this review if provided honest answers from Banner on how they intend to fix this, and potential future care failures.

On 8/4/20 our 22 year old daughter passed away from a gunshot wound.Even though it was extremely apparent she was not going to survive, everyone at Banner Desert treated her as if she would. The dignity and compassion they showed to our beloved daughter and our family will always be remembered. I am extremely grateful for their professionalism, straightforward talk and compassion.

I had my daughter here in AUGUST of 2020. Some nurses were nice, but some made me feel like i was a burden. The only real complaint i have is the fact that they didnt send in my social security application that they were suppose to send in. Ive been trying to get her social for months and it has been a mess because of this. When i called to ask what had happened, the lady wasnt sure because it wasnt scanned in (months after i had given birth), so Im assuming it was lost. Other than that I had pretty good experiences here.

But the only thing is that they forgot my breakfast and lunch but I got that and I recovered fast and the staff was very nice to me and I had a big room before I left too do my rehab and now Im home on oxygen with my husband. And the hospital staff was good to me when I was discharged. Thank you.

I gave 2 ⭐ because our family has no idea how their quality medicine, patient care or state of the art medical equipment is because our loved one has been critical in ICU for 6 weeks without a diagnosis, with very minimal to no communication. So their standards that they say they practice by should simply say TO ONLY THE PATIENT AND NOT THEIR FAMILIES, you will be reminded how busy they are and even be asked not to call about your family members if your are lucky to speak to anyone.

I was forced to submit my 2 week resignation due to unfair treatment of men by the women that worked in the department. If they like you, like one of the individuals you will fit just fine. However, if they do not like you they will lie and team up as they all constantly gossip and and are friends to make you look bad. Thankfully I had my phone on record when the indicent that made me call HR happened. HR was rude, arrogant and had clearly already believed what the others told her before she even called me. She spoke over me multiple times and spoke in a condescending manner. I would recommend a complete investigation of this department as the reason it is failing and behind constantly is due to this constant gossip regime. I had always wanted to work at banner, however I did not realize this poor treatment was so heavily allowed even by the human resources team. I would not recommend.

Medical care is great and nurses and doctors are great. Leadership however is a joke. We spent a considerable amount of time at this hospital during Covid months and the lack of care for families mental health is a major issue. They finally allowed two parents in with their child just to rip the rug right back out a few weeks later. It is absolutely pathetic.

I went to the ER because I was in excruciating pain ( now I know it was acute pancreatitis) I don’t remember much but what I do remember will keep me from ever going to Banner Desert in the future. My pain was so bad I could not control my shaking. First, I did receive a wheelchair right away, “great” I thought and hoped for a good experience, then when I was being checked in I felt the non urgency from the nurse and checkin lady. Then we waited, I don’t know how long maybe 10min, my husband saw I was getting worse and went to ask how long it would be, they said there are twenty people ahead of you and they were doing the best they could. He asked if there was any prioritization and again they said they were doing the best they could. I was moaning, doubled over and violently shaking and they DID NOT CARE!!! How is this possible? We realized it could take 3 hours to get in, so we left and went to Dignity Health ER in Tempe and got in right away and received the care I expected!

The nurses here are amazing many of the doctors and management dont care about people. They dont show no human kindness at all. I was told I went to the er too early to detect any issues which was false they saw the issues and still sent me home. Then went a different er saw the issue I needed emergency surgery which only banner desert could do and didnt. The kicker was that they knocked my front tooth out and now are refusing to pay. Dont go here unless you want to leave worse than you arrived.

Worst hospital I’ve been to. The staff is rude. The say one thing and then the next person says something different and no one is in the same page. The receptionist Cemone that works in admitting is unbelievably worthless. Never have I had someone so unwilling to help and unable to answer simple questions. The visit from valet to discharge was horrible at every turn. Never a child to this hospital unless you want to be told that your child doesn’t need a parent with them. (Not Covid) so no reason my child should be forced to face medical situations alone because the staff can’t decide if the no visitor policy is for adults only or includes children. Would not recommend this hospital.

Edit: Fortunately someone did contact me. While other nurses and staff in administration either continued to transfer me or hang up on me, someone managed to help me get his records and set certain aspects straight. I cant change the rating since the whole situation left a bad taste in my mouth for any Banner hospital, I do appreciate that at least one person I spoke to was kind enough to try and understand my situation and help me and my family without losing their patience or temper when I asked questions. Thank you to them and the other two staff members that were good to us. A lawyer is unfortunately necessary, not all the hospitals fault but the situation is not fixed. I still dont recommend Banner.ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTINGMy fiance went in for a motorcycle accident. Had to have surgery. I made sure they had all of my numbers and told them to call me when I could come visit. They didnt. I called them, multiple times, they transferred me 5 or 6 times then finally told me they didnt know where he was on the last call and they would call me between 9-10 pm. AFTER visiting hours. I give up and go to sleep. THE NEXT MORNING I get a call from my sobbing fiance that a state trooper came in and immediately started accusing him of using meth and threatened to arrest him if he didnt sign for the ticket. He was in recovery with a bleeding spleen HE SHOULD NOT have been allowed to walk into his room during these critical times! The hospital said he could leave, he was fine, but because he was discharging himself THEY DIDNT GIVE HIM ANY PAIN MEDS!!!

The staff was pretty good. Although I was in the hospital for weeks without seeing my family. I asked for counseling, but was told they would find a religious leader, a different nurse blew me off after she found out I wasnt suicidal. Isolated patients need to have someone to talk too. I thought I was going crazy with no one to help. Nurses frequently did not answer the call button. I was supposed to wet the bed if I needed help.

My father recently passed away there on February 1 of this year I can’t think of a worse way for someone to die is alone. They took his phone away from him because he was on it too much which I can understand but they limited any contact we could have while he was still coherent. They repeatedly said they would call us back with updates, which they were rare until his last night alive. They also said when they realized he was not going to make it that they would FaceTime him one last time so we could see him and they just never did. They would notify us of things but the stories were always so twisted when my sister or I talked to them. It was like we were getting two separate stories every time. They put me on hold as a nurse was entering the room and never came back while I was waiting to see my final goodbye to my father. When I called back an hour later they said they were just too busy. They never took time out of their day to make us feel important or worthy of their time. They lied to us about whether we should get on a plane or not to come when he was near his last hours. They said the Covid floor was a secured floor so therefore when his wallet was not produced with his belongings this proves they stole his wallet and to this day it has still not been found and nothing has been done. When we arrived the day after he died, they brought us his belongings fresh out of the morgue freezer ice cold less than 24 hours after our father passed away. That’s real considerate and absolutely mortifying. After waiting for nearly an hour after we were told Social Worker to come down to see us we were told by her that it was not her job to help us find his belongings (which were not ever return to us because they did not follow protocol) . This was also after two days of being told that a Social Worker would contact us and no one ever did. The lady‘s name is Caroline and she was the most unhelpful and uncaring human being I’ve ever met in and in her position that should be the one characteristic she should have. Security also told us at the head of security would be contacting us for numerous days and we never received a phone call. Up until one day ago I finally received a generic I’m sorry from the hospital COO which my sister also received the same verbatim card. They didn’t even make it personal. Just another number to them. My dad’s wallet still has never been found and they think a simple “I’m sorry” and a we will do better next time is OK and it’s not. We are contacting every new station we can and any outlet on social media to make sure this doesn’t happen to anyone else. Now we begin to question the care he received. We never got to say our goodbyes that were promised to us by their staff and that’s something we could never get back. I cannot believe there are human beings on this earth is inconsiderate as these people were from the top down.

I had to track one down and ask what’s going on with the results because they made my dad wait over an over, she tried walking away as I was still talking to her. They didn’t treat him for high blood sugar, only diagnosed him with diabetes and sent him home. They didn’t care to start him on anything or monitor him like every other hospital he has been to does. Still not better. Don’t waste your time here, the staff does not care.

My grandmother who is 77 was in the hospital for 3 days for having a fever and later found out that she had pneumonia, we believe it was due to her having Covid-19 in January 2021 and being on the ventilator for a week. Thank God it wasnt deadly. But, when I went to visit her the 2nd day, I wasnt able to pull her up as she was using the restroom and she called for help and we were already waiting 10 minutes. She got herself up with pain and a lot of strength and she does not have a lot of energy due to Covid in the past. The next day the Doctor told my grandmother she can be discharged, we were so happy. My brother and my cousin were already going to go visit her but knowing she was going to be discharged they went at 10am to meet with her and get the papers then leave right? But no, they were there for 5 hours before they had to leave and go to work and not bring our grandmother home. So I then went to visit and stayed for another 5 hours before they discharged her. The nurse said the paper was getting printed then they are getting a wheelchair. Well we got the papers, I left to go wait in the pickup line. Sitting in my car for 2 hours in AZ sun at 5pm. The nurse apologized for everything because somebody else was suppose to get the wheelchair. So my grandmother is finally home. Shes having reactions (not deadly) but just making her curious because she is on like 10 other medications to see if its still okay to take them so she is trying to get ahold of the doctor at Banner. Well she waited 15 minutes just to talk to someone horribly rude. She asked the woman if she could talk to a doctor who is in charge of the room that she was in during her stay and the woman flat out said THIS IS THE INFUSION CENTER, I DONT KNOW WHY YOURE CALLING HERE, THERE IS NO DOCTOR and my grandmother calmly asked well where can I find a doctor because I am having a reaction? the woman snapped saying WELL THEN GO TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM IF YOURE HAVING A REACTION And I just had to review because I could not put up with this place anymore. They are impatient and rude, dont care for there patients, especially the elederly. I hate this place and hope for my grandmother and myself to never go back there.

I have not seen one staff that actually cares about any of the patients.
