I had a emergency surgery at this hospital. My surgeon doctor was very nice doctor. He checked up on me few times in a day. Always answered my questions. My room was pretty good. I was stayed two days, they have a meal menu in the room. We could order whatever we want.( I had to pick diet menus) They always bring the meals to my room. Also, every one so polite and helpful. I wasnt nervous during the days at the hospital. Nurses were very friendly and helpful all the time. I sincerely appreciate them.

I find it interesting reading these reviews. I was looking for a phone number of someone where to file a complaint and all I see is a LOT of patients having the same billing issues, not being dealt with, and going to collection agencies. We have the same issue. After MANY phone calls and promises: “it is fixed.” All I see here, is to call Community manager. We will do that as a LAST option before we contact an attorney. Never thought it’s would get to that point. ABSOLOUTELY SHAMEFUL!!!!

The way my daughter was treated by staff during her delivery was wonderful. However they dropped the ball on a huge issue that has now affected the baby and now the baby is fighting for her life and her health in Topeka. If you see concerns in a mother’s wellBeing and health in her bloodwork. Tell her!! And fix it. You didn’t so now my grandchild is sick. And my daughters health is in danger. We trusted you. You dropped the ball. You failed us immensely. We are praying for your staff. Be more alert of your patients and their health.

Ive never experienced issues with the quality of my care when I had to visit the ER, at Via Christi Manhattan. Although up until this point I had readily accessible insurance information available. Most recently, I was (and am) fully insured, but my provider had never sent me a card or documentation. And I had experienced trouble finding the pertinent information, online. The only thing the medical staff (including the Doctor) had to do when I was treated this time was examine an abscess on the back of my neck and prescribe me a broad spectrum antibiotic. In and out in 20 minutes at the most. Ive developed these before, and if Id waited even 8 hours longer to go to an Urgent Care while it was open I would have been in deep trouble. So, many thanks to the ER staff for being able to offer the care I need! The attendant at the department reception handed me a financial assistance packet to send in through mail within 30 days. My deadline is near on submitting this review, but I havent reached it, yet. When I tried to provide my insurance information through the network of phone lines today, I was transferred three times and the automated system hung up on me (twice!) when I was simply trying to run my most recent visit through my medical insurance provider. I dont know why this is so difficult to do, but I finally got to someone (Gloria) who could provide me with a direct line to ER Doctor billing. Hopefully this will help as I plan on calling the line first thing tomorrow. However the billing procedures should not be this painful to navigate! Please, do something to streamline this aspect of patient care. No one should have to go through this many transfers simply to get to the right person who can help, and Im not even sure if this new phone line can help, yet. Ill know for sure soon.

Worst experience with hospitals I have ever had. Drove my uncle to the ER because he was crying from how much back pain he had. We get there front desk dident send our registration link for 15 min. Then while he is sitting in the waiting room in discomfort and pain nobody did anything for over 2 hours. They took multiple patients in front of us then people who came in behind us I understand that if it is more urgent that you have to take them first but he was in tears and they just looked at him. Will never recommend this place to anybody ever.

Dont expect anything from this hospital. Brought our 4 year old son in to the ER for a large cut potentially needing stitches. They weighed him, and made him wait in the waiting room for over 1.5 hours. Only until I, a currently deployed service member, called from overseas to speak with the receptionist, did they give him a room. My wife asked for water because our 4 year old was thirsty...probably cause hes been losing blood for the past 2 hours. I understand what triage is and what a packed ER means. Yet, what I dont understand is your lack of care for providing comfort to a mother of a 4 and 2 year old that patiently waited for over 2 hours and was never seen by a doctor. Walked out of the hospital, and nobody even seemed to care. Well never be back, nor will we recommend anybody to come here for care.

Wife just gave birth at the hospital and we ended up staying a few days. Although this is my first child, this has got to be the best hospital out there. Everyone from the doctors, nurses, students, room service, to hospice clean up was excellent. I dont think there was anything I could ever complain about. The care that my wife received from the beginning to the end was phenomenal and everyone their was an expert of their field. Was horribly overcharged by this hospital when my son was born. Explain while a natural birth with 0 pain meds and 0 complications costs $3,500 in Georgia but ~$20,000 here? Dont worry theyre happy to put you on a payment plan, which even 11 months after you have your child theyll just randomly add charges to your account (~$1700 in my case). Make sure to watch for that and call and dispute the additional charges which you did not authorize to be added to the account. Lousy.

I have literally not one good thing to say about this place. An ER visit that was over $3500. All information was updated at check in to include name, addresses, phone numbers, and insurance information. NONE of it was updated in their system completely. The physicians bill had the wrong insured name and ID number. I had to pay that to keep it from going to collections. It still has not been appropriately billed to insurance. The hospital portion of the bill was another issue in and of itself. I didnt know it had processed through insurance until I received a call from their collection department. No bill was ever received though they claimed to have mailed at least two of them. The bill is for one of my adult kids. Since they did not appropriately update the information on the account, I cant get any information from them. I sent said kid to get a print out since we are not receiving the mailed invoices. They were told they cant print out a bill for them, but could mail another one. A week later and that one has not arrived yet either. I paid this as well to prevent collections and here we are five days later with another phone call from their collection company. BTW they cant accept an email confirmation of the payment. Nor can they give me any information at all on the account because they still dont have the account updated appropriately. We were given no answers in the ER either. We were told to download an app and go on our way.For the record, I have worked in healthcare and understand HIPPA. I also know that the appropriate forms were signed to grant me the ability to take care of this. But alas since information was not updated and I have never gotten the bills, I do not know the account number or the correct verification information. What a joke. This makes me angry for every person that walks through their doors. Do better Ascension!

I was very impressed with the care she received by everyone involved, the surgeon, Dr. Doering , was amazing, but every nurse, the anesthetist, the nurse aides, and even the registration staff were very good. She had a traveling nurse named Karen who went above and beyond. The nurses at the check in told him a room needed to be cleaned but someone who came in after him got in right away and she had no visible issues. Finally after getting mean with the check in nurses, someone came out and gave him gauze to use instead of the paper towel he was bleeding on from work. I went in on thanksgiving night because I was in a lot of pain. I was taken back quickly to the ER and my nurse was AMAZING. I believe she said her name was Carol Ann but I was in so much pain that a lot of it is a blur and on my discharge papers it just has the initials CJE. She was really quick to help me and start me on medication. I had to call her twice once because the pain medication she had already given me wasn’t any help at all (which when she came in she already had two more in her hand) and the second time because I had an accident and both times she came in very quickly. She was very attentive and I could tell that she truly cared. She was very sympathetic and did her best to distract me when the pain was really intense. She was so helpful and sweet I hope that every nurse I have in the future is as awesome as she is!

Pain levels were off the chart causing rapid heart rate and vomiting. Other than the nurse, the staff was rude, uncaring and cold. I was told to my face I was a “seeker” and an “addict” and “this hospital doesn’t help people like me”. I was in a room for a total of 5 minutes before the nurse practitioner discharged with me with zero help or even remotely listening. My son and husband received services. For my son it was an ongoing situation and after I did not receive a bill for a couple of months I asked the receptionist. I was assured they were just delayed. This happened for several months until I received a letter from collections for unpaid bills. After calling several times without any help I went to the hospital to find that his guarantor address was several years old and the paperwork I completed at the beginning of services had not been updated. For my husband there were several codes that were incorrectly coded and insurance BCBS said the hospital was responsible. We were sent a bill for these services even though that goes against the agreement between the hospital and BCBS. I called 4 times followed by going to the hospital in regards to this. We were still sent to collections. It took hiring an attorney to get them to take us out of collections. We still haven’t received an itemized statement and we are owed money as well as attorney fees. This is disgusting as most people do not understand insurance and would have been taken further advantage of. This is not uncommon from multiple people sharing their same experience. They can be provide great care but if they cannot follow legal agreements, customer service, proper and legal billing activities, causing additional stress (physical, mental and emotional), then sadly they do not have a place in health care. I have called, physically went in, emailed and faxed multiple times with zero follow through.

Have been in the ER here with my wife 3 times since Via Christi took over Mercy Regional. I dont know much about the merger, but I can tell you that as Mercy Regional I never spent more than 3 hours total in the ER without being admitted because it was something serious. The bare minimum we have waited since the change over to Via Christi has been 4 hours, and as I sit here currently typing this, weve been here for 6, the last 2 of which have simply been waiting for someone to read the ultrasound that we had to wait multiple hours to get. Also watched a woman come into the lobby after us, who was moaning in pain and throwing up for several minutes, and at no point did I see any staff member even attempt to offer help, only the individual that brought her in offered any sort of assistance to her, and when we finally got called back to a room she was still in the same condition. This hospital has gone downhill in the last several years. If I personally have an emergency, Ill be driving myself to Junction City from now on.

I think it was the next day, the dr said he in fact had a stroke! Then my daughter broke her ankle at school. They did xrays and said it wasnt broke, just sprained. The nurse kept saying she had to walk on it before she could leave. She kept trying to walk! Finally they went ahead and let us go but the next morning they called and said we needed to come back for a a splint/ cast bc it was broke in 2 places.

Billing department is absolutely horrible. I dont think anyone knows what they are doing. Payed billed amount due back in November of 2018 amounting to over $4000.00. Requested an itemized statement and total of my bill and closed status was posted on my print out. Just received a letter from a collection agency stating I owe them another $318 or so dollars. Never even received another bill from them with that amount due. You can believe that Ill fight this tooth and nail. Im not the only one to have had this happen. Crooks!

I ASKED HOW LONG 😮 AND THEY CALLED 911!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I was there on 07/3 for nerve pain. Upon being informed of the wait.. I limped to the window (where they were chatting) and asked how long ...And just like that the young man with black glasses called 911 on me.Yes just like that..It was discrimination at its best.Asked for advocate, was told its 5, dont have oneCharge nurse disrespected my name and said sit down..Police came, ready to take me, then wanted to speak kind when they discovered no finding to even bother me.The officer said... well you can go back inside just dont cause a scene.. I even had to post it on Facebook live...I left..but had to come back because this is the only hospital in the city.I felt so defeated and dehumanized..😪Came back with my daughter... Talk to a head nurse , she says.Filled a complaint.Talk to a complaint department..this past Friday 07/12/19Just to be told that they are gonna have a class to teach when and when not to call 911...Now 🤨...you tell me...Does that make sense to you? Exactly...I have not been mentally well sense...And when I was told they called my meds to the pharmacy...they lied. One did but nothing for the nerve pain, the whole reason I was even there...

I took my home healthcare client to the ER today and she was seen by Matthew Foster MD. He was absolutely amazing and his bedside manner on top of the extra mile he went for her was so stellar. Thank you so much! If you can pick your physician I highly suggest you ask for him!

I want to move from Manhattan just because of this hospital! I have had each of my 3 deliveries there and the care is terrible. Not suggested for labor and delivery!I and my husband have been treated as well and will not go back.I also have several other family members who would rather drive to Kansas City than go here.

A horrible experience!! Took my 1 year old there for difficulty breathing. Asked 3 times for a breathing treatment and was told all three times no, it wouldnt help. You could tell he was clearly struggling to breathe. Was also told X-rays looked fine. Almost 5 hours later sent home with no explanation or medicine. Trusted my momma instinct and took him to another er. As soon as we walked back he was immediately given a breathing treatment without asking. His breathing calmed down a bit immediately. Doctor called Via Christi to get results and told our new doctor they didnt know if it was viral or pneumonia. Remind you, they told me everything looked fine. Hes on breathing treatments and antibiotics for pneumonia no thanks to Via Christi. Never bringing my children here again!

I have never has worse billing problems. They dont record payments, change bills months after they are first sent and are nearly impossible to contact through their new financial service. Possibly because everyone else is having the same problem. If they remember to send you the bill for the full amount it is amazing. The doctors seem to find everyone a burden to treat.

AVOID AT ALL COSTSNot only did they give our newborn daughter terrible treatment, they accused her mother of abusing drugs during her pregnancy (she didnt), a few of the nurses didnt even try to feed her well (she had to stay in the nursery for whatever reason), and they ignored medical history information we begged them to listen to (Overland Park Regional asked us why we didnt tell them and that was exactly what was going on). We later had a social worker tell us to avoid Via Christi if at all possible because theyve had multiple issues with them.

Wish I had other options other than driving to Topeka when I have lost feeling/sensation in both of my legs! I have been sitting in this waiting room for 3 hours... was triaged 3 hours ago... let the receptionist know that Im getting worse and she said shed let the nurse know.... I have been to this ER a few times and have nothing nice to say... the nurses stand around the nursing stations right outside of a patients room laughing and gabbing like they dont have patients to attend to...

I went into the er and was put in a room and waited for well over an hour without anyone to attend me or even check to see if my condition had worsened. Doesnt help that there was only a few patients there when I arrived and when I asked what is taking so long the nurses just looked at each other silently and simply said a lot of people came in when you came in. Mind you, there was only myself and an older guy in the waiting room. Pathetic.

Absolutely horrible experience. The staff was incredibly inconsiderate and lacked the basic knowledge of the medications I am currently taking in order to come up with what medications to administer for my symptoms at that time. They even didnt understand why I had turned the lights off in my room, when clearly if they were knowledgeable of migraines, especially ones with auras, they wouldve understood. They were not thorough and didnt evaluate my medical history, nor did they even do the basic neurological exam that every other ER has in the past. They never even reevaluated my symptoms before sending in someone with my discharge papers. I would recommend, if at all possible, drive even a couple hours somewhere to avoid this facility if you truly need medical attention.

If you want a laid back hospital this is the place for you. Surgery scheduled was more than an hour late without explaination or apology. Staff laughing it up and gabbing outside room. Torn dirty curtains, bathroom without trash can, debris under gurney. Broken computers and thermostat. Shocking lack of protocol and professionalism.

The Doctors: It just depends on which one you get. There are maybe only 2 good doctors there. The rest are either Moody and try to rush you out (overlooking many things) or dont seem very educated and seem to be going off a hunch. The Nurses: Gossip and laugh about the patients in the hallway. Arent very helpful with answering questions and if something happens and you have to buzz them, they take forever to get to you and then give you an attitude for interrupting their gossiping and flirting.

Take my daughter there for stomach cramps and severe abdominal pain and they give her fentanyl, tell us it is a virus and send on our way. Two weeks later, same issue, drive to Fort Riley where she gets an abdominal X-ray and ct-scan and we find out the issue and now working on her recovery. If you are military or retired, take the drive to Irwin. Funny that all the answers to the ratings are canned and an automatic response. Truly sad

Went for severe back pain after a fall and was ignored. It was a waste of my time and I still have to go see my PCM the following day to get imaging and treatment. I was treated like a drug seeker and they ignored my level of pain. Im an RN and the care I received was pathetic. I left the er in the same condition I arrived. Usually get good care but will stick with avoiding this ER. They didnt address my concerns and blew me off. The staff on sunday didnt care.I have left two messages regarding my visit and have not received a response. I emailed the POC and hope to get a response.I finally got contacted and was told a team of doctors would review my case and it would take a while. I already received a letter saying they agreed with the nurse practioner I saw. I have been charged 250$ for a urinalysis that I didnt need. I was there for chronic back pain and a fall no other issues. And also charged 6$ for a nurse to put a lidoderm patch on my back. Im not incapable of putting it on myself but I told them it wasnt going to help. Via christi has ripped off my insurance company and myself. The er is a joke and a waste of time. You will get better care at kstat or just drive to Topeka.

Would NEVER recommend this place. Wouldnt even recommend it to my worst enemy. The most uncaring, unprofessional, incompetent hospital Ive ever witnessed. released my wife yesterday morning after rushing through and not figuring out whats going on. I even talked to them and asked if there was any other test they could do to figure out whats going on. they said yes, but the doctor wouldnt. how can you bill for a service when the service never gets done. went back for a second you time, to get the scan done that they should have done the first time. called 3 times to be ignored. asked for pain medicine 3 different times and finally got some after I got upset. got laughed at by the nurse, PA too 4 hours to do a CT scan. extremely rude. DO NOT GO HERE!I really wish I could do a negative review.

Felt Very Taken Advantage off. My daughter felt she needed to go into their Emergency room for what turned out was a very minor cut on index finger. A nurse just cleaned wound and put a dab on bonding on the finger. Via Christi loaded up the bill to every extent they could charging doctors fees, facilities charges etc. In toll the bill was nearly $1500 for what would have been less than $100 at most Urgent care. After pleading with them to review the charges they simply refused to remove/reduce any charge and simply and continually threatened collections. Hard to believe this is the Catholic/Christian philosophy they portrait on their website. Any college student should avoid them at nearly all costs.

We have had a rough couple of months which as landed us in the ER 3 times in as many months. EVERY time they took great care of us, and didnt make us feel like it is all about the $$$ or cattle being pushed through. The nursing staff was great and the doctors didnt l blow you off. That is rare, I can tell ya with how much I have ended up in ER in many different states for everything from migraines to spinal stenosis you always will have the random bad apple but this hospital ER staff works their butt off and shouldnt be having these terrible things said. You saw them talking for a few mins...big deal, but did you see the kid they saved? Or when they held someones hand while they passed away alone? These nurses do a hell of a lot that goes unseen by the public, only to have someone put something nasty up on their job website. Yes you will get invoiced from multiple places...but that is any major hospital nowadays. I had back surgery in another state and I had 5 different billing creditors to help keep cost down and the insurance to pay more. Instead of critizing them for doing their jobs, maybe a bit of thankfulness would be in order.Thank you to all the nurses and Doctors and Admin staff that help our family and our friends when we were in great need. You are greatly appreciated by many even if these rate us boards dont show it.God Bless you all.

Terrible billing... Was called about a 5 year old bill that was paid and now they say it wasnt. When pressed they could provide no history even on when we were previously contact for collections nor what the services were. Paying online is the worst experience ever, there is no confirmation of payment, it is a white screen and text iframe, and there is no online account to track history. Confusing website where I cant even find the services they offer at what facilities. I really miss Mercy Regional! We now go 2 hours our of town at KU just to avoid Via Christi.

I stayed with my mother while she went through hip replacement due to a fall. Thank God I choose to stay and I would recommend that if you have a love one in this hospital dont leave their side. Pain meds were late, no consistency or organization of care, I only saw 2 people using hand sanitizer on their hands. I used Google to find out answers to some questions asked. To top things off there was no hot water in the room for 2 days. Please note I think the problem here starts at the top. The nursing staff can only do so much when fighting with administration which we also heard outside our door.

I had a horrible birthing experience at this hospital years ago when delivering my boy. But, that’s besides the point of this review. So many similarities between my story, the others reviewing, and my husbands most recent trip to the ER. I’ve worked in healthcare in the past, so receiving/seeing/witnessing the care provided here makes me cringe. Zero compassion, zero punctuality, zero communication between staff members, horrible workplace attitudes between the staff members themselves, and zero trust in patient pain.I get that emergency rooms are going to be slow at responding, so I’m not even giving this one star because of that. I’m giving this one star because obviously nothing has changed. My husband was treated as if he was just another person coming in for something that wasn’t a “real”emergency. They just don’t seem to care here.
