K-State Vet is one of the most professional vet environments I have encountered. They aren’t my primary vet, but I have used their emergency services & dental services. The vet students are so caring and the vets are incredibly knowledgeable. I know my pets are in good hands. I wanted to specifically send some appreciation out to my most recent vet tech, Emmy. When she called to check on my dog after her root canal she was so empathetic. I am very grateful for this center.

The staff here is amazing. They took great care of our dog after she had been attacked. She was in the hospital for 2 weeks and they sent us pictures of her and let us come visit her once. This is an emergency vet so it is going to cost more money than a regular vet. Our regular vet attempted to do a procedure that resulted in our dog’s skin rotting. This caused our dog to have several infections. If you want the best care for your pet, then I highly recommend taking your pet here. This place is much more advanced than a normal vet so it’s the absolute best for surgeries and emergency situations. They do require half of the estimated payment upfront which is understandable.

I took my 4 month old kitten, Salem in because he got hurt. Head trauma from playing and heavy furniture got his head. I don’t want to talk about everything. I was too caught up to realize pricing and that they need payment before they can save my cat. My cat ended up dying two days later. They wanted $1,200 upfront and it seemed like that was only for testing. I understand brain trauma treatment is going to be expensive, but that much upfront? I couldn’t get qualified for care credit, even if I did it takes a week or more to be prequalified. They weren’t trying to help give me other options. Other than to leave him overnight for $600 then I couldn’t do anything. I had to watch him suffer. I got charged $195.00 for the day of. Emergency fee is $142, I think anyway.I just got a invoice today charging me more money (another $94.00) after my cat has already passed away. I’m already financially suffering, yet I still get more charges. You should have just took every penny I had the day of rather than charging me now. It doesn’t make any sense.

We had such an amazing experience working with Dr. Rooney and Sunny. A few weeks ago, my daughters hamster had a emergency and we were referred to K State for emergency exotic care. We hopped in the car and 2 hours later made it and everyone we worked with was great. Our sweet hamster, Ferb, crossed the rainbow bridge but Dr. Rooney was patient and took the time to fully explain what was happening and the options. Today, we received impressions of her paws and a sympathy card and we were blown away. Thank you for everything! It was worth the drive from Kansas City to your clinic.

It’s been a couple years since my visit, but I will never go back again. They are extremely slow and they keep you waiting for hours before they tell you what’s going on. Also - if you think a normal vet is expensive, well triple that cost! It’s too bad they are the only ones open for emergency care. In a time of confusion and panic, you’ll be totally price gouged and could possibly rack up $1,000s, but still have to bury your pet.

My wife took our puppy to get treated here for possible obstruction. Surgery was luckily not necessary, but the prices were fairly reasonable considering it is a 24 hour clinic. Just like with human emergency visits, they always cost more. I am so thankful to KSUs amazing vet team. They saved my puppy from a lot of pain and saved my wife and I a lot of worry.

I still have nightmares about this place. They over charge so much. You have to be wealthy to get your beloved pet medical treatment. Maybe my dog would still be alive if the bill wasnt $6000 to start. I only had $3000. Probably more than enough at a different vet. He is dead. I miss him still. If I had just taken him somewhere else. It still cost me over a $1000 to tell me that he wouldnt live

My dog was a victim of an attack by another dog. We called to see if we could bring him in for emergency services. With Covid, things have been tight in our household but my husband spoke to Page who said they just needed a deposit down and said how much would work and we would figure something else out when we got there, perfect. This was 1am and we live about 30 minutes away. We called a second time before leaving home to make sure we were still going to be accepted to be seen for the down payment we were told and we were reassured we were. I drove my poor pup there where someone looked at him in the lobby and said yes, he needed medical attention. I was then asked to wait in the waiting room for over an hour just for someone to come out and tell me that they couldn’t see my dog without full payment. If full payment is what you require, fine, I get it, but to be told twice that they were going to work with you and reassure you, before you drive all that way and back with a dog who’s in pain just for them to turn around and say, “sucks to suck, you’ll have to go to your vet when they open” was an awful and completely unprofessional situation. Any vet that can see an animal in an emergency situation, deemed by them, and turn them away because of money is just terribly sad. Shame on them. If they would’ve been honest up front before I drove out there in the middle of the night, it would be a different review. Very unprofessional.

I accidentally hit my dog with the weed eater. Which cut through his tibia and fibula. This was Thursday evening. The staff at that time was very attentiveAnd assured me he was under pain control. The veterinarian on call ask for pictures to be sent and he would see him in the morning. So Friday morning it was decided it would be best to Amputate his front left leg. This leg was dangling. But the veterinarian said they had a full schedule and dont do surgeries on weekends and it would need to wait till Monday. So I checked him out and took him to another veterinarian. She amputated the leg and sent him home on antibiotics and pain meds.I have been using K-State vet med for 30 yrs and never been so disappointed. The cost they estimated was $3000.The veterinarian which did the procedure was under $700.

We had an emergency this weekend with our 6 month old puppy. We took him to K-State University vet and after 5 hours their diagnosis was an emergency surgery. They told us it was going to cost $4,000! We try making payment arrangements pleaded with them there was no way out it was either fine $4,000 or let my dog died. In my desperation I called Deep Well, it was about 8:30 p.m. at this time the vet listen to me she she show concern and even went as far as to call K State to find out what was wrong with my dog. After about 20 minutes she called me back and asked me if I could be at her clinic in about an hour! She preformed is surgery for a are sweets Flynn. We were there for about 45 minutes all together and the cost was but a fraction of what K-State wanted. Im sure they are good at what they do, but I had a horrible experience with KSU VHC. Slow, unprofessional, poor documentation and communication.Check in took 45m and I had to explain the background and why we were there to 2 different people.Did not disclose all costs and does not get approval of random tests they want to run. An abdominal ultrasound and bloodwork was to be $370. 6 hours later, ended up with a +$600 bill for tests and charges I was not told about or approved.Continued to stall by wanting to run more tests that could have been run earlier in the day. Waited 30m from the vet to bring out our cat. And had to ask for the documents we provided back. Told they would call with the results that evening. 24 hours later, I had not received a call. I called but only received a busy signal. I then emailed requesting all test results. Finally heard back 2 hours later.I will find another small animal hospital if the need arises again.

Abby was well taken care of, she came back shiny and smiley, like a lab should. They called me twice a day while she was there with updates, and four times the day of her surgery. I never had to wonder how my baby girl was doing. The discharge instructions were precise and easy to understand. They took decent care of my dog when I had to bring her in for emergency.I brought her in a little before 4:00pm but they didnt start running any tests until after 5:00, so everything went up in price. I understand theyre busy but that was a little overwhelming that it took so long to get her checked out. They ran all the tests though and called every time they had a question so I know they were thorough.Everything went well, picked up my dog, and I paid the bill, or so I thoight. A month later, I got a whole new bill in the mail! No one bothered to tell me that another entity goes over the first bill and can go and charge you more for the services, so then you get billed more by mail! Emergency vet services are expensive and I was not expecting to have to shell out more after I paid at the vet. I called and left messages with the billing department to go over my charges but no one ever called me back. The new bill was almost half of the amount that I already paid!

Local veterinarian arranged emergency care with Dr Rankin to remove foreign object in my horse’s eye on arrival with standing sedation if possible. I was advised of extra charge for emergency care after hours. I went directly there however no emergency treatment was done, they didnt want to call in staff. They let my horse suffer with foreign object in cornea overnight, no treatment for over 10 hours, and the ulcer injury and infection just got worse overnight. After 2 weeks of treatment ultimately she recommended removal of the eye and had it set up with surgeon before calling me. Vet had more enthusiasm for removing the eye than she did for removal of object from eye in first place. Despicable care. Warped priorities. Too lazy to go to work for emergency contributed to terrible outcome. More interested in $$$$ than care. Don’t go to KSU veterinary if you care about your animals!

This establishment seems to be more interested in money than actually caring for the pet. My 5 month old puppy went in Saturday morning and died Saturday night. Initially we were told it was $540 for an examination and diagnosis. Hours later we were told that he had fluid in his lungs and that it would be $1400 to keep him stabilized and to perform his surgery. We paid the $1400 and was told they removed the fluid and he was stable. After paying $1400 there was an additional $1900 due. With every update they informed us that he was stabilized. It felt like they were telling us that to keep our hopes high. The last call about saving him we were told they need $12k to keep him alive. They said were not rushing you to make a decision, but we need to know your decision in the next 3 hours. Unfortunately we are a middle class couple that did not have $12k to spare. We made an attempt to raise the money in 3 hours, but failed. Later in the night we received the phone call that he passed away. My concern is that if he was stabilized and the fluids were removed what caused his death? Our pup died on a metal bed with no love or comfort surrounding him. We did not have him cremated. We picked his body up to bury him ourselves and after viewing his body we didnt see any signs of surgery being done, just shaved fur. We honestly feel like this entire situation was a money scam and they never knew exactly what was wrong with him. Please take your pet else where for emergency treatment.

Definitely good for a one time visit, but if you come more than once be prepared for every single visit to be like the first time you were there. You might expect that after the first visit they would have a file with the information about your pet that they would consult, but nope. They will ask all the same questions at each appointment, and getting them to look at information from previous visits (like for instance what medicine they administered to your pet) is almost like pulling teeth. The administration side also has a hard time keeping track of records from multiple visits and will be unable to tell you even information such as when the last time a pet came in was, or whether there are any refills left on a certain medication. Again, for one time visits theyre great! But dont be like me and try to make them your regular vet.

There was no power so they took my wife and stuck her in one of the backrooms where she waited... for 3 hours while no one would give her any information as to what was going on. Finally she decided to leave went up to the desk to get her money back as this Vet HADNT performed any type of service AT ALL. But they told her no as the fee was non refundable. You must be joking. She had to pay $125 just wait in a dark room for 3 hours. Never take your animals here. The staff is a joke and I highly doubt they could accurately treat a dog that has a cold. Let me start off by saying thank you!Our first visit was on a sunday night after my great dane was attacked at a dog park by 2 other great danes. Big dogs cause big injuries. We called ahead and they were ready for us when we got there. The injuries were minor but needed to be treated regardless. When you walk in they require a $135 payment before you are seen. It took me back a little but in the end I understand. This is applied to the final bill if you didnt know. Now fast forward one week, we went in with our Great Dane to get looked at for a possible cherry eye. After going to ophthalmology and having a thorough examination it was not what we thought. The staff was compassionate and incredibly knowledgable. I have no problem with the students doing the exams and giving a diagnosis. This is how they learn afterall. The resident vet came in to confirm diagnosis from the student and treatment plan after she examined him. In our case there are 2 treatment options that vary little in cost. It was reassuring to see multiple vets and students collaborating on the plan and giving their opinions. In the end, our puppy is home after surgery healthy and happy. He made lots of friends with the staff and it showed they treated him like he was theirs. The estimate originally quoted was high and we paid less than was quoted. (Pleasant surprise). The comments about payment seem to be misdirected. Their pricing for treatment was straightforward and reasonable. Understanding that this is a school and self sustaining business is hard to comprehend when you are dealing with a sick pet. I have had to face hard decisions in the past of whether to treat my pets or let them go because the cost is too great. Just keep in mind they will give the best care possible to your pet but you have to pay for it.

MY first experience with K-State Vet Health Center was three years ago when my dog needed localized radiation on a malignant growth on her arm. We had to take her down there every Monday and pick her up every Friday for 6 weeks. They took really good care of her and spoiled her. She was often found hanging out with the students in the students lounge. She was in remission for the growth on her arm but cancer appeared in another place in her lungs and she did not live much longer after that.My current experience with them is now my other dog has multiple myeloma and it is a rare form of cancer in dogs, my local vet sent me there because they had all of the resources that would be necessary to help him. All of the students were very nice and the veterinarians were extremely nice, had great listening skills, and just overall friendly. They kept us well educated on the whole process and presented us with options and the pros/cons of each option. They are actually cheaper than a local specialist and they have a much larger staff where ideas can be bounced back and forth. They always call me or e mail me back within the same day. The ladies at the front desk is very nice, I dont know what the other peoples problems were but I never had a problem with them at all. I will never forget the kindness that they showed us. God bless them all!

Our Bernese Mountain Dog had two TPLO surgeries at the KSU vet hospital. Both surgeries went great and the care of our Berner was top rate. Drs. Berke (1st surgery) and Renberg (2nd surgery) did great work. There was one exception, they used too long of screws for the plates inside the knee. This may cause other issues in the future. Being a surgical nurse myself I’ve assisted on many orthopedic surgeries. There is a tool to assist with determining required screw length. It’s called a depth gauge. My suggestion is that they use it in future orthopedic surgeries requiring screws. The students that took care of him each time (Grace and Lexy respectively) took care of him like he was their own. Thanks to everyone for all their good work

This clinic doesnt even deserve 1 star. Worst experience I have ever had. My appointment was 10:00 and didnt even see the resident until 12:00. Only got to spend 5 minutes with the resident. She clearly did not know what she was talking about. My dog was hit by a car and needed knee surgery. The resident tried to tell me my dog had knee problems prior to being hit by the car (not true). She also tired to tell me this would happen to the other knee as well. I dont even think the resident liked dogs with the way she treated mine. She was loud and did not even try to warm up to my dog before she muzzled him (he has never had to be muzzled before). At the end of my appointment my estimated cost was $3,000.00 and I did not even have a clue as to what the surgery was going to be. I ended up driving back 2 hours to pick my dog up because I did not want him to have the surgery done there. I put down $1800.00 and when I came back to pick my dog up they told me it would take 2 weeks to get my refund! They also complained when I wanted a copy of the financial policy. The front desk girls were also rude. They acted as if I was an annoyance because I had to call twice to figure out what day my dog would have surgery and to see if I needed to stay the night in Manhattan. THIS PLACE IS A JOKE!

I am actually stunned by the bad reviews. We couldnt have asked for more compassionate and thorough care for our Golden Retriever. I would highly recommend Kstate Vet school to anyone!

I took my dog to K-State for an issue with her front leg. Dr. Roush spent all of 10 minutes with us, thought it could be an elbow issue because that is what the veterinary student suggested. He said theyd take some x-rays and call us, but several hours later only the student called and had no answers. When we went to pick up my dog, still no answers, and the student couldnt answer a single one of my questions (left alone, no vet). The STUDENT called me back later in the day and indicated my three year old dog had pano (again, couldnt answer any questions). The dog had been limping every day for four months, and is three years old. Pano is associated with dogs less than 18 months old and it is an intermittent problem. Im not a vet and I know it isnt pano, and several vets I saw after that agreed with me.I finally took my dog to Dr. Smith at the Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Center in Wichita, who did many x-rays and an ultrasound. The ultrasound indicated there were tears in her infraspinatus (shoulder). I contacted K-State and said I wanted a refund for being brushed off, treated basically by a student, and given a ridiculous diagnosis. Again, I was ignored. I was even contacted by Tom Schwartz, another vet who stood by their ridiculous diagnosis even with PROOF of the ultrasound from my vet. I will NEVER go to K-State again, and I graduated from there. I am embarrassed to even admit that now, and I think they thought since I was a woman there with my daughter that they didnt need to give me the time and attention my dog deserved. Dr Roush went to surgery apparently right after we left, which is why he was unavailable to answer any questions. I waited a month for that appointment. The good news is that Dr. Smith spent months giving my dog therapy and she is finally able to run and play again. Shed still be limping and miserable every day had I trusted K-States diagnosis. Dont waste your money, your time, or your dogs health going to K-State.

I brought my Australian shepherd mix Luna in last night around 3:30 am. I was panicked and scared that something serous was wrong. The student and vet who took care of her were both amazing. Asked thorough questions, and took great care of my puppy.I think some of the people in other reviews don’t realize that going to an emergency vet is going to cost you. They were up front about the visit cost on the phone, they spoke to me about costs before they did x-rays and blood work. And got results back to me quicker then they estimated the time it would take. I’ll definitrly bring my dog back there for her regular vet care now as we just moved here and don’t have a vet yet.Thank you for taking care of my baby.

Dr. Aldrige did a wonderful job taking care of our dog. He had two broken legs and a fractured pelvis. If your animal is in need of immediate medical attention, and its life threatening, I would only go to KSU.

Today is Thanksgiving and I brought my cat into the emergency room because he was coughing/had trouble breathing. Im thankful for all the veterinarians who worked on thanksgiving. The emergency hospital at KSU was the only place open, so they were swamped. I saw the doctor I had with several different people over the night. A lot of them were crying (including me at one point). But I saw her (and the people she worked with) taking time to talk to and comfort each pet parent. They seemed to be going nonstop during the whole time I was there. They go above and beyond just treating pets.

After my Cavalier King Charles had heart failure, the emergency vet recommended a local Kansas City cardiology specialist to see every three months. My regular vet suggest I look into the Kansas State Vet Hospital services. While the initial work up was pricey I was given very clear, honest information to help me make an informed decision about my pets future health.Since then, I have been seeing Dr. Justin Thomason and his team/students every 3 months. They are so great with Brooklyn (my dog) and always provide the most information and best care possible. Their regular services are also considerable less expensive than the Kansas City specialist I was referred to. Dr. Thomason makes a point to get back to me with any questions or concerns I have on a regular basis. They offer wonderful staff and services, and I feel good about supporting a school that produces more great veterinarians.

My cat is diabetic and I accidentally broke his bottle of insulin. However I already had a new one on the way. I thought it might arrive on Saturday, but it did not. My regular vet was closed due to it being Memorial Day Weekend, so I called to see if they could do anything. I would have to bring him in and pay $122 just for them to check him. Then who knows if there would have been extra fees after that to get the insulin. All I needed was about 20 units of vetsulin to get to Tuesday when either I could call my regular vet, who has given me insulin for free in the past during an emergency situation, or most likely the vetsulin I ordered will be here. I have proof of his prescription and have been giving him insulin for almost a year.I understand the doctor may not have wanted to give insulin to a cat they have never seen, but with proof of his prescription in an emergency situation, I dont see how this is a problem.

I have been there three times now for different things and always leave with a bill of at least 500.00. Everytime they insist on x-rays and blood work no matter what the issue is so be prepared to hand over a lot of cash. After x-rays and bloodwork they still could not identify the problem, so that was a bit irritating. The staff is pretty nice and professional and facility is kept clean.

I cant say enough good or sing higher praises for KSU veterinary hospital. They brought in our Bohdi in wee hours of a.m. with a broken pelvis. We drove almost 3 hours in middle of night to get there. They treated us and our dog with compassion. Bohdi received quality care, with regular updates on his status after his surgery. Senior student Kate, was main caregiver for Bohdi, post-op , she answered all our questions and treated us and Bohdi like family, as did Dr. Roush, the surgeon whom answered all our surgery questions. We are so grateful for KSU veterinary hospital. Highly recommend ♥️

We have a Ragdoll cattery and the Veterinary Health Center has not only done all of our checkups and spay/neuters but has gone over the top on saving the life of one of our female breeders. If it werent for the staff, students, and Dr.s, our precious Sassy would never have survived her ordeal. A thousand Thumbs Up for the Vet Health Center at KSU.

My dog had a mass that rupturged on MLK day. Drove lil over 2 hours to emergency care because my regular vet wouldnt accept him and the referred vet would not help either. But death by injection was. This was not an option. All of the people involved at K-State vet care called like clockwork to keep me informed of my dogs health. They are so kind and took the time to explain things. Literally the worst veterinary clinic Ive ever been to. They were very rude the first time we brought our cat in, like it was an inconvenience for them to have deal with our sick cat in the night. In the end it didnt work out with our cat, They said they would never charge us more than our down payment without letting us know. Next thing we know were charged for more than we had initially put down when they said we were getting refunded since they didnt treat him the day we put him down. My Fiance has been calling to try to get answers and theyve been nothing but rude.
