My 3 year old has now seen Dr. Shannon Sawyer three times and we have been pleased at each visit. Due to his past medical history, I was very nervous to bring him to the dentist, but I couldnt be more happy with the care and service he has received. The hygienist who cleaned his teeth for the first time today was calm, kind, and gentle which is all I could ask for. I realize they are always busy and swamped especially with covid causing them to close for awhile, so I prepare for a longer wait time when we go and its not an issue for us.

Hi! This place is very overpriced, and often cancels your appointments randomly for seemingly no reason. These things have been very difficult to deal with when I have visited here. However, at least the staff does their job, and some of the staff are friendly, which is good.

About a month ago my 6 and 9 year old went in for a cleaning. This office has a galley with several chairs with no barriers between them, nice for space saving and efficiency, not for privacy or for that matter controlling virus spread. They don’t let parents in the galley area, you have to wait for one of the 3 private rooms. My girls came out after the cleaning, and I was told by the hygienists that my 6 year old was being difficult and they didn’t do the cleaning. Now to be fair, she can be a pill at times, so this isn’t a matter of them mishandling my child, but rather than allow me the opportunity to calm my child down, they sent her to the waiting room and told me sorry. I called and had a conversation with the office manger, and later the dentist. I expressed my desire to be brought back to help calm my child if either of them behaved in a manner that prevented them from doing their job. Both agreed that was the best corse of action. Took my child in for a procedure today, when the assistant started to take her back and noticed that I was proceeding to go back with her, stepped in front of me and pulled the door behind her. I figured the dentist would remember our conversation and get me involved if she started to misbehave so I didn’t put up a fight and just went with it. When they came to get me a few minutes later, she was in a consult room, not the procedure room, and there was a referral to another office already filled out. Rather than involve me like was discussed they pulled her from the room and filled out a referral before I was contacted. With all of this said, they do a good job with independent children who don’t need their parents to comfort them, my 9 year old does great there. And from what I have seen the dental work and billing/ insurance departments are top notch. Their preference is to have the parent wait outside, and the way their office is designed you will probably have to wait quite a while to have a chance to go back with your child. So if like me you have a child who is nervous and needs parental comfort, I would recommend looking elsewhere.

Both of my children has been going here for years, they canceled one of my daughters appointment during the beginning of covid now telling me she is considered a new patient and they are NOT taking any new patients. Cant believe any office would do this to a child. I have never heard of any business erasing patients! And of course I can not find anywhere who is accepting new patients!

My daughter had an accident and apparently all the dentists are closed on Friday. Luckily they have an on call schedule and without ever seeing us before spoke with me, had me send pics, and made the office staff aware that we would need an immediate appointment and we were seen the following Monday. Weve been going here ever since. My 3 kids respond well to the environment and have no problems going back alone.

So, I never write reviews but decided today that I had to! This place is absolutely wonderful! My children have been going to this office for 3 or 4 years now and we always have a great experience and today was no exception. Virginia just entered Phase 1 of reopening due to the coronovirus pandemic and I was terrified of having to bring my children (9, 7, and 4 months) to the dentists office so my son could have his baby tooth pulled. My husband and I decided he would go inside with our son and I would stay in the vehicle with our two daughters. My husband took our son inside and a few minutes later he emerged without our son. Once inside our vehicle, he said there was a table with hand sanitizer available for use, no chairs in the waiting room, and the arcade was closed off. He said once our son was finished the staff would call us to come inside for him. 30 minutes later our son and a staff member walked outside and she let us know that he did well and gave us verbal after care instructions. I felt my son was 100% safe in their care due to the precautions they are taking. I hope this will help ease the minds of other parents during these difficult times. THANK YOU CHILDRENS DENTAL HEALTH OF LYNCHBURG. Yall are A M A Z I N G!!!!

What a great experience! My son has epilepsy and some sensory issues and Dr. Sawyer could not have been more attentive and accommodating to his needs. Highly recommended for comfort of little ones and reassurance of anxious parents.

I noticed some parents letting their small children go back alone. I got there at 915, appointment at 930. I asked the receptionist if I could go back with my daughter and she said yes. We went back an hour later, they had to take the same xrays shed just had done because they were blurry, extra unnecessary radiation. Next the dr says he cant do the filling today we will have to return, then says maybe he can do it and sends the helper in to take my child back without me, WHICH I HAD ALREADY ASKED ABOUT 2 HOURS BEFORE. We just left. She missed school, I canceled other appointments Id had today because I could tell they were behind when I got there and basically wasted 2 hours of my life for nothing. If you feel comfortable letting your child be sedated without you being present then go ahead, otherwise I do not recommend.

My daughter has had two be seen twice and both times had a great experience. Both the doctors and staff made sure she was comfortable, calmed any anxiety she may have had and explained everything to me afterwards. We had a great experience and will definitely be returning! Thank you all!!

Its nice they have a big waiting room with a game room on the side for kids to play. The waiting room also has two tvs on each side playing kid friendly movies. Importantly the staff is nice and my children never seem to complain about having to go to the dentist.

We were referred by another dentist for a childs cap. The referring dentist asked specifically if they would perform the procedure at our appointment. They said the cap would be placed that day. We went to the scheduled appointment, waited for 50 minutes to be called back, and were told it was just a consultation and the cap could be done in 2 months. What a waste of time. This was our second poor experience there. I am terribly disappointed.

Only go here if your child is very comfortable going to the dentist. Previous pediatric dentists we have taken my son to have been wonderful and understanding of his anxiety going to the dentist. This office would not let my wife accompany our child back for a multiple tooth extraction he was extremely worked up about. Due to this ridiculous, inflexible policy, my son still has two baby teeth that need to be extracted. The staff and doctor said plainly, If you dont like it, find another dentist. I have never seen another pediatric medical professional with such disregard for patients.

We just had to make an emergency, after-hours call here and the dentist was amazing. He called back quickly, put this anxious mom at ease and was extremely thorough in coming up with a plan of action.

Very rude people ! Would not reccomend this office to anyone. Im not the type to leave a bad review unless it is needed. My advice is to take your children else where.
