Dr. Van Sickle was a miracle worker for me. He has a fabulous staff that is friendly and efficient.I had severe hydrocephalus caused by a TBI received in a traffic accident in 1990. I suffered with the effects of this for twenty-five years before I was finally referred to Dr. Van Sickle. He diagnosed my problem and surgically implanted a ventricular shunt to drain off excess spinal fluid. The very day after the surgery I was a new man and have been perfectly healthy for six years after the surgery. I highly recommend him to anyone. Great Doctor.

I am very grateful to have met Dr. Vansickle !!! He won my confidence the first time I consulted with him about my surgical needs and was also able to get me in fairly quickly to address those needs. His staff is proactive and followed up with all billing concerns and scheduling and kept me informed during the entire process. I look forward to a continued relationship with his medical group. Thank You so very much for helping me today !!! :) :) :)UPDATE - I had some issues come up from my surgery that were the leftovers from a surgery that I had some time back. I was able to work with this office and get everything taken care of !! It was an unexpected twist, but this office helped me to make it right. I am still so thankful for this office and all of the wonderful staff - thank you again so much for all that you do !!! :) :) :)

How can I ever express my gratitude to Dr. David Van Sickle? Not only is he a brilliant surgeon but he is also a caring and compassionate human being. These qualities are not always found in one physician. That’s why Dr. Van Sickle is such a rare gift in health care.I had deep brain stimulation surgery 4 months ago. Today I feel like I did approximately 7 to 10 years ago. I have reduced my medications by over 50% and I am able to actively participate in my life without the ongoing fear of muscle rigidity and dystonia.I admit I was a little leery about the surgery, but Dr. Van Sickle put me at ease with his knowledge, professionalism and confidence in the procedure giving me back my “quality” of life. I am humbled by his expertise, skill and compassion.I also have to give a huge thank you to Patricia, Dr. Van Sickle’s PA. She is so very patient, caring, smart and funny. She was always available to me to answer any of my questions pre and post surgeries.Without a doubt and with no reservations, I would recommend Dr. David Van Sickle and his team to anyone suffering with the pain of Parkinson’s disease.Respectfully,Jan B.

I had DBS done by Dr. VanSickle in December 2018 for Parkinsons. He has changed my life tremendously! I went from using a walker and a wheelchair to being able to do things with my grandkids that weve enjoyed doing in the past. Ive also struggled with other health issues and Dr. VanSickle took the time to work with my doctors to help my family and I feel more comfortable. He is very caring, kind and passionate in what he does. Thank you Dr VanSickle for all you have done and thank you God for bringing him Into our lives!

This is the man to see if you have Essential Tremor or Parkinsons. I first met Dr. VanSIckle in 2018. In 2019 I had Digital Brain Stimulus installed with the idea to have better quality of life. I wanted to reduce my medications first and foremost. He is a very talented bio-med surgeon. I was asleep during the 1st procedure in order to be exact when installing the leads. He was accommodating when I had the generators installed, as I am an avid bird hunter and didnt want the generators disturbed. After programming of the DBS system I immediately felt better, regained the use of my left hand, tremors stopped and got my voice back. I had struggled for months with a hoarse voice. My wife had surgery, chemotherapy and radiation at the same time, and his office was able to accommodate the scheduling of both of us. I am very fortunate to have found Dr. VanSickle and his team who are outstanding in their medical field. We need more like him. Dorsey Johnson

Dr Vansickle was the first surgeon my husband and I met with when I was searching for the right one to perform a spinal Laminectomy. We both liked Dr Vansickle immediately and actually wanted to hire him at our first meeting, but we felt we needed to at least look at one more before making the decision. Once we decided on Dr Vansickle, We found the process very easy. The staff at South Denver Neurosurgery was fantastic! From the front desk to the PA to Dr Vansickle, we received excellent service. Littleton Hospital also has a great staff and we didn’t feel like we got lost in the shuffle. Even the post op care was exceptional. There were a couple times while we were out of town that we had to call in for an issue or two. We were attended to immediately over the phone. When in town with an issue I was seen the same day. I highly recommend this practice. You will not be sorry. Thank you Dr Vansickle and all the staff at South Denver Neurology and Littleton Hospital for making it possible for me to regain my active lifestyle!

Dr VanSickle’s expertise in Deep Brain Stimulation has given my husband the incredible gift of turning back his Parkinson’s symptoms 7 years to the time of his diagnosis. He is an extremely gifted neurosurgeon with a warm, compassionate, guy next door personality. He takes as much time as necessary to address every question or concern we have and his explanations are always easy to understand. And, although still early in the process, we’ve discovered that Patricia is the wizard of generator programming. My husband’s tremors, rigidity, dexterity and slowness of movement are already well controlled and with ½ the dosage of medication his symptoms are gone. Hard to believe that with more fine tuning in upcoming sessions his results should be even better and his medications decreased even more. We whole heartedly recommend Dr VanSickle, his right hand Patricia and his entire staff. They are top notch and we honestly could not have asked for more.

If you are considering DBS, please consider reading my experience with DBS and Dr. VanSickle. For 4 years, Parkinsons disease and Essential Tremors had been progressively stealing my ability to live life. At 38 years old, I had come to a scary point of struggling with the disease and it was dramatically effecting my ability to do normal things in life. Every time I have progressed in the disease, I have mourned the loss of an ability, then picked myself up, moved on, and figured out how to work around it. In Gods perfect timing, a close friend of mine connected me to an amazing neurosurgeon Dr. David VanSickle. Dr. VanSickle uses the innovation of robotics to do DBS surgery. This robotic method of DBS surgery is more precise (making it more successful), significantly safer, less surgery time, and the patient is under anesthesia during the surgery. After much consideration, Dr. VanSickle, my family, and I decided to move forward with DBS surgery last summer. The results have been miraculous; DBS stopped my tremors, stopped my leg from twisting (Dystonia), and restored so much of what I had lost. I have been beyond grateful to get back the dreams I have mourned and the abilities I thought I would never get to do again. Some things as simple as being able to once again write a sweet note in a birthday card, to being able to put on nail polish or eye liner, being able to hold a plate or cup at a party, not struggle to get food to my mouth, or spill my drink. To once again feel comfortable socially, to meet someone for the first time and not have them wonder what is wrong with me, or see people I havent seen in a long time and they are heartbroken to clearly see that things are only getting worse.......to think that the BIG dreams tucked away in my heart MAY be possible again. My list is extensive of what I have regained, and to have my dreams and aspirations restored........there are no words to describe my gratefulness. At the same time, the risk of brain surgery is no laughing matter. In fact, it can be kind of scary, but taking the brave step of DBS was the best decision I could have ever made.My decision to have DBS was directly related to the facts that Dr. VanSickles approach to DBS was less invasive, safer, and had a higher rate of success. In addition, Dr. Van Sickle is the most compassionate doctor I have ever met. He truly cares about doing ALL he can to improve the life of his patients. His heart, knowledge, and innovation makes him the only neurosurgeon that I would ever chose or recommend for DBS.

I would recommend Dr. VanSickle to any one who interested in Deep Brain Stimulation. It has given me many more productive years than i other wise would have had. I still take very little medication. It is worth the 1000 mile trip to Denver. Dr.VanSickle is the best,

Dr. Vansickle is the BEST!!! He is a fantastic doctor. He has a great bedside manor. My son, Bryan, had the surgery done in June, 2015, after suffering from Essential Tremor since he was in 8th grade. He is now 45 years old - the last 15 years have been tough. He tried all the medicines - they didnt work. It was getting to the point that he wouldnt be able to hold a job - then he met Dr. Vansickle. Bryans neurologist thought he would be a perfect candidate for DBS surgery and she sent him to Dr. Vansickle. Bryan met Dr. Vansickle and he agreed that Bryan was a great candidate. Heavens, I wish we had met this man 10 years ago and had the surgery. I will admit Bryan was terrified - who wouldnt be if you knew they were going to open up your brain and you are awake. The 3 surgeries went extremely well. Each surgery Dr. Vansickle spent 20 to 30 minutes after the surgery with me answering all my questions. This was always at 5 or 6 in the evening and the man had done surgeries all day but he didnt seemed rushed at all. Im so thankful that he took the time to reassure me about Bryan. Bryan also likes his PA a lot and his neurologist. Every week when I talk to Bryan and ask him how he is doing - he always says FABULOUS! He is amazed at the things he can now do that he couldnt do before - like write a note to his grandmother, eat soup with a spoon, eat in the lunchroom at his job since he isnt embarrassed anymore and countless other little things that we dont even think about. I wish every person who has Essential Tremor or Parkinsons could be helped by Dr. Vansickle. The good doctor is now also doing a surgery called Robotic Sleep DBS. It is for people that dont want to be awake during the regular DBS surgery. Yes, Dr. Vansickle is our hero. We are so thankful Bryan was in the right place at the right time and found Dr. Vansickle.

I am extremely grateful that Dr. David VanSickle was the surgeon on call and assigned to conduct my surgery upon the discovery of my baseball-sized Meningioma tumor. Before we met him, my family asked various nurses about him - we thought we could get the real story from them. Every person we talked to raved about Dr. VanSickle! And, the Chaplain shared that people travel from out of state to be operated on by him.Once I met him, I gained much confidence and felt blessed he was my surgeon. Hes top notch! He provided the comfort, and straight-forwardness, that I needed to be able to face brain surgery courageously. He was compassionately vested in me as the patient, and took the time to visit me at least four times prior to surgery. He knew I was reluctant. He also spent the time getting to know me as a person. I was most impressed with his manner! And, hes humble to boot! Ive since learned that this is part of his philosophy: to look at the entire person, to treat the patient like family and to analyze the situation instead of to provide a standard answer. He literally saved my life, and I consider Dr. VanSickle my hero. His team is also phenomenal! Dr. VanSickle and his P.A. Patricia Freeman will forever be in my heart. Thank you both from my depths.
