An outstanding operation in a first class facility. Have had occasion to need them on three different occasions. Dr Burns and her Care Team get an A+ in my book. Very professional, very supportive and helpful and always take plenty of time to explain things. Really seem to care about their patients. I heartily recommend Dr Burns and her Care Team.

The staff were great and the service was fast & thorough. However, my billing reflected a 30-45 minute visit but I wasn’t In the office more than 10 minutes. I paid my share online right away with the total being taken from my checking immediately but am still getting paper, text and email requests to pay my bill months later. I’ve spoken with them several times now with no resolution.

Dr. Peter Bouman was thorough, knowledgeable, personable and efficient. This is the 3rd appointment for skin cancer evaluation and removal. I will definitely be back in the future. NOTE: If you are using GPS for directions: Type in the office address... using the name of the office will send you to the wrong street and building where parking is difficult, not free, and quite distant.

The most upsetting customer service Ive ever had. My GPS brought me to the wrong location, I got so lost and was desperately trying to get there on time (hate being late, and always leave early to make sure Im not) but Im human and got lost. I called the office for help, she was incredibly rude and degrading, its the building on Lincoln St with the 70 on it. Super helpful. When I finally figured it out where the GPS took me instead and got there at 4:07 for a 4:00 appt. I was extremely apologetic but only met with a rude Im gonna go check to see if they will even accept you. She came back saying they would and pushed me through my paperwork, and said my new insurance wasnt valid so was going to go with my secondary with a 60 copay. If I had felt welcomed in anyway I wouldve accepted that and stayed, but honestly from start to finish it was terrible. I ended up rescheduling my appt that Ive waited months and months for, on my 45 minute drive home I decided to call and just cancel it all together. Start to finish I felt incredibly unwelcome, degraded, and talked down to 10/10 would not recommend to anyone. I would hate being a patient at such a place.

Absolutely inept office staff/appalling service overall. I waited months for paperwork to be filed to get an emerging market ointment, paperwork not filed with insurance, I had to chase endlessly, stated fax machine was broken (?) - welcome to the dark ages (!), blamed on untrained staff, etc, endless calls to insurance/Bates office staff and in the end I never even got to try the product nor anything else for that matter. No problem, untreated Rosacea only GETS WORSE so thank you for NOTHING! No follow-up, no apologies, wasted money thrown at a second office visit for absolutely no result. Abysmal service. Failure on all counts. Ive had better service at a fast food restaurant. Go elsewhere.

I had a less-than-positive experience with the Bates Mill Dermatology administration. After being referred from my doctors office and waiting 2 months for an appointment, I received a call the day before my appointment telling me that my appointment was cancelled as I had not called to confirm my appointment. (Obviously, had I been notified that I needed to call to confirm, I would have done so!) Luckily, I was able to contact one very helpful office worker who reinstated my appointment, but when I expressed my concerns to the office manager, Maryann, she was quite dismissive which was very frustrating. However, my appointment itself went well. Matt was fantastic, and I was able to quickly and easily get the help that I needed, once I was actually able to make it to my appointment!

My son was a patient here for the past five years and now the practice is refusing to make an appointment because his secondary insurance is and has always been MaineCare - we’ve always paid our bills on time in full. The practice has never run his appointments through MaineCare as they don’t accept it. We offered to pay for the entire appointment out of pocket in advance of the appointment which they refused to accept. Now we have to drive over an hour to see a new dermatologist. Extremely disappointed that this practice has no loyalty to its patients or good business sense. I understand why this practice as poor reviews.

Not really sure what to think. Front desk staff and the MA were amazing. The doctor was super fast and I didnt have time for questions. Clearly not trauma informed, which was concerning. Pulled down my gown without telling me , but I believe my face showed his error. I want to like this place, the office is beautiful and the other staff are amazing. Im thinking that the doctor struggle with trauma informed bedside manner, which can be corrected.

As many have said, we had a bill that we overlooked (our insurance did pay most of it), and when we called to pay it we were told that my wife is no longer welcome as a patient. My wife has been a patient in good standing for years and weve never been late. It was an honest mistake, but the office manager Maryann explained that Dr. Bouman and Dr. Burns personally review late bills and discharge folks from the practice. I asked if it might help if I spoke to one of them, but I was told that they stand by their decisions. I understand that they arent in the business of chasing down payments, but for someone who has always been in good standing, and called to pay the bill; it seems like they care first and foremost about the bottom line - not the patient.

I had a wonderful visit yesterday. The receptionist was pleasant, the intake nurse was wonderful and Matthew Bureau, PA-C was very helpful. I saw Dr. Bureau for concerns with acne and he spent only 5-7 minutes and just about immediately recommended an oral medicine (that I mentioned I would prefer be a last resort). No thorough evaluation, just a quick glance over of my face. No questions about health history, diet, or anything that could affect my acne. He came off as pompous and only interested in getting me in and out so he could move onto his next patient. I left the office feeling very discouraged instead of hopeful to find s solution.

Horrible experience. The provider was short with me and gave no time for questions. He spent most of the time looking at the iPad he was documenting on. I called 2 hours later to ask if my sons prescriptions could be faxed to pharmacy since he would be away for a few days and I was told “we send them at the end of the day” and to check back with the pharmacy at 5pm. We will not return nor recommend this practice.

Took patients before me to check out and last minute told me I needed to pay my copay upfront. My visit to this office was fine, but their billing is horrible!!!!! A few weeks after my appointment, I received a bill from them and I promptly mailed them a check. Somehow the check never cleared, it could have been lost in the mail or misplaced in the office, but either way, i didnt realize hey hadnt gotten it. I never heard from them again until almost 3 months later -- I got a certified letter saying they were referring me to a collection agency and dropping me as a patient!! The letter claims they have made numerous attempts to collect - since when is zero numerous??? Aside from feeling thoroughly degraded by this, my credit is now tarnished! If you want to be treated like scum - this is the office to go to!!!!

I called today to make an appointment for my child. I have insurance through my job, Cigna. Weve met the deductible for the year, and would be completely covered. I made the mistake of saying that my child was also covered under MaineCare disability as a secondary insurance. They refused to see my daughter. They refused to bill my Cigna because my child has disability insurance. The womans tone changed completely when I said that we had that as a secondary insurance. So incredibly rude and condescending. Dont call to make an appointment here. Pay attention to the other reviews - I should have.

I am 63 years old. Saw a young PA here a couple of years ago. I had raised spots appearing on my skin. I was instructed to strip down to my underpants. No gown was offered. The pa and is young assistant came in. I was instructed to stand with my arms above my head while he walked around me. I pulled out the elastic on my underpants and when he let go they snapped. He and his assistant left the room and I heard giggling on the other side of the door. Humiliation times 10!!!!

Not happy with this office. They cancelled an appointment hours before I was suppose to have it and then couldnt reschedule me for 3 months. I never got a call to remind me of that appointment because their automated reminder service wasnt working well, but they didnt have their staff call to make up for that. The office is technically open until 5pm, but if you call at 4:45, they wont pick up the phone. These are the little things that can make appointments with this group more trouble than they are worth.

Let me start by saying I have a terrible case of psoriosis. Two years ago, I was being treated for this at their office, using uvb light treatments. I was being burned (not in a good way) once or twice a week while they dialed in the treatment. After months of this, I missed two treatments, as I was tired of a constant sunburn, peeling, diacomfort, and most definetly, an increased chance of skin cancer. I was promptly diacharged after almost two years as a patient, for missing one treatment and one doctor visit.Fast forward to three months ago: since the treatments I recieved from Bates Mill Dermatology, I have what appears to be skin cancer. My PCP referred me to their office to see Dr. Bowman. The office schedualed me an appointment, THREE MONTHS later to see Dr Bowman. I was just called and spoke to Mary Anne the office manager, ONE HOUR before my appointment and told not to come in! .......after waiting THREE MONTHS for my appointment! All I can say is look at the reviews here. The professionalism at this office is non existent. Ive felt shamed by the office manager, Mary Anne, on more than one occasion. The female Doctor I had been seeing, and the front desk staff were always courtious and kind, however, I would avoid this place like the plague. I tried giving them a second chance, as I believe people deserve that much. Unfortunately, they dont feel the same way. I have never been to a more unprofessional doctors office.

I had been a patient here for several years. My father spent the past summer dying of cancer and passed on August 21st. I had a severe stress reaction and my skin was out of control. I was suffering and very uncomfortable. I called the office a few days after he passed to request an appointment. I was told the soonest they could get me in was November 30th. Three months away!! I could understand if I were a new patient but I was an EXISTING PATIENT in crisis. I pleaded my case and got nowhere. I ended up calling Midcoast Dermatology and they were able to get me in much sooner, as a new patient. I will never go back to Bates Mill. How can a practice treat patients like this? I am also in healthcare, and when I notice I am having trouble scheduling patients in a timely manner, I stop taking new patients. Or hire a new doctor. Its not rocket science. Your practice is successful because of the patients that come to you and made your business successful. It is your duty to take care of them. Very disappointing when it seems like making money is more important than patient care.

I have been going here for 6+ years and the woman at the front desk is awful - rude, unpleasant, uncaring, demanding and condescending. Ive complained and they dont care and even my provider today (who was gracious to take me as I was 7 minutes late as I thought me appt was later) seemed not herself. At this point I feel that woman at the front desk is related to someone important to the organization. So I will be leaving the practice and going elsewhere. Im certain they will not care.

I cannot say enough good about Dr. Alison Ravis at Bates Mill Dermatology. Dr. Ravis is so down to Earth. There is something magical that happens when she walks in the room. Just her presence seems to calm my nerves. Dr. Ravis listens, evaluates and then both of us come up with a treatment plan. I would also like to add that the Bates Mill Dermatology waiting room and offices are beautiful as well as peaceful.
