A fantastic place. I have a breathing problem and I was told by my doctor that I would have to get rid of my parakeet. My cousin called these folks and they have taken him and will find him a great home. They have a beautiful selection of parrots there looking for homes as well.

Never will I consider coming to this place again nor will I recommend them to anyone I know. Ive been looking to buy a parrot recently and figured Id try for adoption and this is how I came to know about this place. The only one closest to me. Its a 4-5 hour drive one way that I thought would be worth it to adopt and save a bird. I called 3 times and left a message twice. My mom called twice and left a message. No answers and no call backs. We figured they may have been busy being as how its a rescue. This being at the time they were supposed to open, 12 noon. Because it is a long drive we decided to take the trip and wait for a call back on the way there. Still no call, neither to my phone or my moms. After 5 hours of driving we finally get there and see a note on the door explaining theyre by appointment only. Well that wouldve been nice to know on their automated line or website. We knocked on the door and a lady came and told us we needed to make an appointment in order to see or even adopt any of their birds. After explaining to her wed been calling for 5 hours, she basically told us to leave because we werent coming in, telling us we need to call to make an appointment. Would be nice if theyd answer their phones for that to happen, right? No one was in there and it was still 2 hours before they were to close. After practically begging her to let us adopt one and being blocked at every word, we gave up and left. Driving 5 hours back home. Dont claim to care about the birds yet make it impossible for potential adopters to take one home and give it a great life. If I could rate this 0 or even negative stars I would. I WILL NOT come back and I WILL NOT EVER recommend this place to anyone. Find some new people who will do what theyre supposed to do or close your doors, because youre doing a great disservice to the animals you claim to care for.

I go in the sanctuary whenever it’s open and I’m around, a little while ago I was looking for a canary, I have a small aviary that I can walk into, with a small variety of finches.I asked how one could adopt a bird, and I got a fairly angry look and eye roll from the lady behind the desk, and they said by application. I asked if I could have an application for the canary and the lady didn’t respond. I asked again louder, because I thought maybe she didn’t hear me, the birds weren’t making too much noise so I thought it was off, but when I asked again she turned her back to me and continued to play with a small parrot.I ended up leaving and buying my canary from a bird store. The staff/volunteers are extremely rude, HOWEVER, there ones was a man in the cockatoo room who was handling the birds and told us about the wild caught bird. He was very sweet and a great volunteer, he cared about the birds and he handled potential adopters very well and gave good advice and told us about all the birds. (Though I wasn’t looking to adopt a large parrot)I think that the rescue needs to really work on their customer service skills even though they are a rescue. No one wants to deal with mean and ignorant staff, especially when you can buy a bird without problems from a breeder. You are supposed to want your birds to go to new, happy homes. And I understand the turnaround rate for parrots, people think they want one and then realize it’s too much to handle. As a bird lover and enthusiast I feel terrible for the birds that end up not getting homes due to negligent volunteers. If you want a good experience getting a bird, buy one from the store. I’ve had fantastic experience buying them from the main store :)

Spent a few weeks spending time with Loro, a scarlet macaw. It was love at first sight for him and my husband. He’s such a character and a joy to have part of our flock 🥰 FSEBR takes good care of these birds and makes sure each bird sees a highly recommended avian vet before you can bring your feathered friend home. They truly love each and everyone of these birds and you can tell they want to ensure they go to good homes.

What a lovely group of people. I originally went looking for another amazing parrot that would love me...well turns out, she didnt. The owner was so kind and so helpful with trying to find me a bird that picked me...and we did! I adopted a beautiful, healthy conure named Blaze. This rescue runs solely on volunteers and thats so HARD!! They truly consider the birds well being over any human which is something I admire most about them. We drove over an hour one way to visit the burd we decided to adopt and it was well worth the trip. I will ALWAYS adopt a parrot from this rescue if I ever have an opening in my family for one again.

The volunteers are great people. We just adopted a bird and he is so wonderful. They care very much about the birds and were exceptionally nice to us. They went above and beyond to help us and we couldnt be more happy with them.

Very disappointed with this rescue. I wanted to speak to staff about adopting a parrot, yet, when I attempted to speak with the owner and staff, I was mostly blown off. They would give me short, curt answers and even eye rolls when I inquired about the parrots. Each parrot I asked about, I was given only negative feedback about their birds (that were for adoption) and why they wouldnt be good for adoption. Any parrot is likely to be quite stressed in a tightly packed space with tons of screeching birds, constant foot traffic of strangers talking to them, poking at their cages etc. They have customers who love birds, have experience and the time and love to give a parrot, to provide one a fantastic home... yet they ignore them. *mind blown* I must have misunderstood the meaning of this rescue, for I thought it was to find parrots in need, homes. Its no wonder they have so many poor birds in there, treating customers this way. Hats off to the ONE, kind staff member who did talk to me, tried to help me and seemed to actually want the birds to get loving homes. As for the owner and others.. Im speechless. I wound up just walking out,.. and will look elsewhere.

Awesome rescue ! Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE we dealt with at this rescue was very kind, knowledgeable, and truly care about what is best for the birds ! They are around these birds every day and know their behaviors, likes and dislikes, and how they bond with different people. Definitely would recommend this place to someone who is truly ready and has the patience to find the right bird.

I have always wanted a companion bird and just never found the right one. While I was stopping in to just check out the birds at that fish place the young man suggested I go check them out in the rescue. He walked me over since they were open when I was there. At first it was loud, busy and a lot of people were in and out. I wasn’t so sure about it at that point. However everyone wants to see the birds- I mean who wouldn’t they are AMAZING! I took my time walking around and when it cleared out spoke with the volunteers that were there. It was then I realized THIS was the place! They were helpful and extremely knowledgeable. One of them was holding a bird I instantly fell in love with. I asked if I could hold him and he came right to me. Never have would I have believed I could fall in love and feel so comfortable so fast. I immediately turned in my application for this sweet boy. I have been going up to see him for the past 3 weeks (it’s about an hour from my home) and doing some volunteer work while I am there. I truly love being able to help out and get to know some pretty awesome people (and birds). They truly have the best interest of the birds in mind and know each one of them like books. I appreciate they adoption policy fully and cannot wait to get my boy home! I will definitely be helping out as much as I can even after he is home- if they want to keep me around 😉. LOVE this place. LOVE the people and LOVE the birds. So very happy to have found this place and hope this review helps others decide to stop in, donate, rescue, sponsor, or even volunteer.****** UPDATE 7/20/19******After spending weeks driving up to see the bird I wanted to adopt and several hours of my time spend bonding with Dexter (the bird) I regret to say that the pending adoption was removed from his cage. When I asked why I was told they didn’t know exactly. I won’t go into the entire story. I will say that just because one specific person did not see me there I was considered not there! I have pictures of every visit with “my” bird. Are you kidding me?!? NO home visit was scheduled and there was NO reason this should have happened. I am heartbroken! How horrible to do this to someone. To top it all off I find that someone else has placed him on a pending status- UNBELIEVABLE!!!! I wanted to give this bird a loving home and without any communication I was denied that opportunity. What a joke. I advise if you are the type of person that does not want to fit into someone else’s bubble you find another rescue to adopt from. If I could give negative stars I would!

Parrot Rescue is never ending. Some stories are sad and as soon as a parrot is adopted, there’s one waiting to come in to take its place. Feathered Sanctuary does great things for these beautiful birds in need. Please keep in mind that this is 100% volunteer and there’s never enough help. Consider spending some time as a volunteer. It is the absolute best way to learn each birds personality and let the bird pick you. Once you’ve bonded with a bird the rest of the process is actually very easy. This is not a pet store so please don’t assume that you can just go there and pick what you want and go home with that bird. Please also consider the noise level, cost of toys (they must have toys to destroy to keep them from boredom), cost of QUALITY food, grooming, vetting, destructive nature, cleaning, and time you have to spend with a bird. If you’ve considered all of this and are committed to the long haul (they live a very long time), then this is a great place to visit, volunteer, learn, and adopt from! I’ve put in the time and over a ten year period, have 3 adopted parrots from FS.

My wife and istopped in yesterday. What a great place and such awesome people. You can tell they love the birds and take care of them like they are their own birds. I am going to adopt one and help by donating some food to feed their flock. Dont buy a bird when you can give one of the many birds out there a good home. They all deserve a forever home

Wish there was some where you could go to be one on one with a bird. Not very nice when people are coming and looking in the window and scaring the bird. Not much progress can happen with certain birds. Love that they are helping birds to find homes.

The Feathered Sanctuary is a non profit organization that houses abused, neglected, and forgotten parrots that need loving safe homes. Their first priority is the parrots. They are all vetted. The volunteer staff is very knowledgeable and they work very hard to socialize parrots who’ve been emotionally scared and physically abused. The Feathered Sanctuary does a wonderful job training people to care for parrots, when you adopt they want it to be a forever home.I love that they do a home check of potential rescuers to make sure the parrots are going to safe happy environments. All in all the Feathred Sanctuary really cares about the parrots they house.

My husband and I happened upon this rescue purely by chance .There was one bird in particular that we liked .We took home an adoption application filled it out an brought it back so we could visit .Keep in mind we live over 2 hours away. Today on our 4th visit we were told that someone else who is a friend is interested and thats why we were never contacted . I understand the desire to have the bird go to a known person but up till a week and a half ago when we last visited he was still available. Also the first people we met were much friendlier then the last few volunteers we dealt with .Not happy!😞😞

Im with the rest of the ones. Such rude and disrespectful staff. If you dont volunteer there or have feathers, you wont be talked to. The older woman sitting at the desk is simply a sour person and others just ignore all the questions we tried to ask, as if we didnt exist! My husband asked several times to a few different volunteers about the adoption process and fees and such and they simply wont answer! Weve gone in several times and it is this way every single time. I quit. I wont every go back, nor will I recommend it to anyone. It is so disheartening.

I went to them looking to rescue a blue and gold .First day I walked in and said Hi to the old lady behind the desk she looked at me and put her head down.I thought ok maybe she is just having a bad day .I proceeded to look around and came across a blue and gold .A lady that works there with short red hair walked passed me, I stopped her to ask a question about the bird and got a one word response, again tried to ask another question same thing one word response Mind you I spent 3hrs with the bird that day and also I have driven 1 1/2 hrs each way . Against my better judgement went back 2 days later to visit the macaw I fell in love with .I did this day get a better response to my questions by a guy that worked there .I was told the bird was 8yrs old , is afraid of men ,was giving up by a lady who told them the bird did not like her boyfriend.I seen for myself when a man would come past her she would get very stressed out . So believable story right -WRONG -I will get to that later .I told the old lady I would like to rescue this bird so I filled out an application and returned 3days later , , spent at least 3more hours with the bird that day .I was then approached on when I would like to take her home .I set up for that weekend which was a Sunday .The procedure is a home check first which is great as far as I was concerned and it was scheduled for Sunday at 11am. Then I could drive back and pick the bird up.I decided to spend more time with her the day before so she would be comfortable with me on Sunday when I pick her up.Again spent 3hrs with her.I decided to ask to see the paper work on her such as the reason she was dropped off and the vet visit I was told she had when she arrived at the rescue .At that point everything changed I was told they don’t have that information and when I questioned it the fat short haired lady’s tone of voice changed to a rude and ignorant.I then was told they don’t have the papers there ,then I was told by the old lady that they are all together.I then was told the vet does not give them a copy. I asked for the vet name and phone number and they all rolled there eyes and told me they don’t know it .At this point I asked how that could be , I was told you use a pacific vet and they are all checked before being sold .Finally they looked up name on there phone of vet and had me write down the number.Just as I was getting ready to call the vet to make sure bird was healthy with know issues I needed to worry about .The owner , the old lady prints me out the results of the vet exam .I said thank you and walked back to the back room and sat down to look it over .All of a sudden she comes storming in and says if you don’t trust us you can leave ,needless to say I was in shock .I said really , she repeated herself .I told her I had a right to see the vet report I am paying 600.00 dollars for this bird ,I have 2other animals at home and a family who can get very sick if the bird isn’t clear of diseases that they can carry. It was a red flag at that point that something isn’t right and the truth wasn’t being told .I proceeded to say to her that this is important information to know just like you are coming to my house to do a home check to make sure that the information I told you about my living situation is accurate ,she had nothing to say.I said if anything why didn’t you ask me if I understood everything I was looking at on the vet results and if I had any questions to let her know .At that point the Fat short haired lady told me to leave as did the owner -the old lady.I was told the bird was 8 yrs old -the vet papers stated 14 yrs old .I was told by fat read headed lady she couldn’t have nuts because the previous owner only fed her nuts and caused bird to have a fatty liver problem which could get better by a healthy diet.Which to me made since no big deal I would make sure she had a healthy diet . After looking over blood work results I came across a high sodium level with the bird .Unfortunaly I did not get a chance to red the whole thing because I was asked to leave..

These people work hard to ensure these birds get the proper care and best homes they can get. They often sacrifice much of their own time and well-being to be with parrots that need more one-on-one time than others could ever provide.

We were given a pair of Sun Concures because a friend decided they were not giving enough time and attention to them . We literally just got them and the one laid eggs and wasnt making a nest. I was at That Fish Place and I saw the Feathered Sanctuary there...So after I purchased my bird food...I figured I would ask them because they know about birds. I told the lady I had a question..So I told her my situation ..What she started out with was we dont encourage breeding...(I told her I had just gotten them so obviously this wasnt planned) ...So after shooting off a spew of stuff I already knew about calcuim and such. I told her I ll just talk to my vet. Very disappointed in the response I was just looking for help.
